Recent T61 Ship Dates...and so forth

Yes they said it would take 3-4 weeks and the estimated ship date was 9/5. But they did ship it right away. I also finally managed to talk to someone and they confirmed that the sales tax though charged will get reversed. (That is how it would work is that it would get charged and then refunded). I think it is just a matter of what stock they have. If they have a stock of 14.1" with camera then they ship it out. Maybe they manipulate the market demand. Scare people off from ordering those parts they are running low. I even ordered the turbo boost memory which on some other models / configuration says will delay the shipment by 2-3 weeks (but does not on my model / config.)

 

What is backlight leakage? And it might be posted somewhere on the forums already but being lazy here..

 

It's funny that they charged you tax. I'm also on tax free weekend state (NC) and they didn't charge me. But I called them first and confirmed that they were not going to...

I hope I'm as lucky as you, and my laptop is shipped tomorrow.

 

I phoned in to check on my order just now. Again, I was told there was a problem with my configuration (was also told this last week and was told it was fixed/was now on "critical list"). The CSR was sending a note to their supply warehouse to see what the deal is and I'll be contacted tomorrow.

Needless to say, I'm not holding my breath on them proactively contacting me. She said the computer hasn't even entered the build stage yet, so I'm still looking at several more weeks.

I'm in pretty dire need of a new system, but I'm also curious just how long this little charade can continue for!

Course mine do have the Wireless USB.... Which seem to be delaying orders of the regular T61 15.4' and the T61p with that configuation. D*** Lenovo

 

Its when light, from the back of the LCD used to illuminate it, seeps out of the screen. You can see if you have it by setting a black background on your desktop and inspecting the screen in a really dark room.

 

what is the wireless usb everyone is talking about? ie, what does it do and where was the option to get it?

 

Wireless USB is basically a souped up version of bluetooth http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_usb, only comes with the 15.4 inch T61s and its P series variant

 

do they not have the t61s on their website anymore (lenovo.com)?

haha, i see now. what a dumb mistake.

the reason i thought it was a different model is because even when i look at the t61 or t61p 15.4" models, i can't find the option for wusb.

 

hmm. looks like they took out that option. they used to have it though. probably took it out cause of them lacking that part, like how they took out the WXGA+ option for the 14" notebooks. probably will be temporary though, until they can get the parts they need.

 

ya im def pissed about them taking thw wxga+ option out of the 14"....sucks that they don't even have a waiting list for it...even if ure willing to wait extra

 

I ordered a T61 (8897CT) 14" SXGA+, T7500, GMA X3100 on Aug-4, estimated shipping was Aug-22, but it shipped today -- Aug-8.

 

My opinion: the 3-4 weeks delay on the 14" with webcam make people order w/o it. The demand is so high for w/o webcam that they have a lot of integrated webcam thinkpads.
My suggestion is to order with webcam, and your order will come faster...at least until the demand reverses again (more people ordering with webcam than w/o).

But still, it's weird that they say that the webcam can delay the shippment 3-4 weeks, and send it one day after processing the order.

My new opinion: chaos governs lenovo.

Can you guys confirm that your T61 arrival date was only 2 days after the actual shipping date?
Lenovo shipped mine yesterday, and the estimated arrival date is 08-13. If the computers are arriving only 2 days after shipping, then I need to find someone to stay at home tomorrow... UPS is too damn far from where I live...I know that I can track the shipment, but I want to plan ahead.
