congrats! how do you like vista?

i'm starting to think i might have been better off grabbing a preconfigured model and adding ram myself...too late though, and i'm sure these regrets will disappear as soon as i have the laptop in my hands. :)

Congrats, though you beat me to it. I just checked my email too and also got a confirmation that mine has shipped! Ours may be shipment buddies :p. I am SO excited!

Do you know how to check our exact parts (such as screen) before it arrives? Or is that not possible?

Fired up my computer this morning and visited my "order status page" only to find my ship date for my T60 was changed from today to 3/09, two weeks from now. There hasn't been an email yet.

Well, at least I can either change the order from Vista to XP or cancel it altogether and get the Dell XPS M1210.

I got plenty of time to decide.

argh.... mine is coming with the samsung screen T.T.....

    EDIT: Well actually it says:
MFG Part # FRU Part #
13N7019 13N7020 15.4 INCH LCD DISPLAY FRU YES

Does that mean I got the samsung or the LG ? Because the 7019 = Samsung while the 7020 = LG....

EDIT # 2: According to this thread it says I got the LG :

I too got the LG screen, which completely made my day. Checking on the keyboard, it looks like I got the ALPS keyboard. Mine's in Ontario right now, according to UPS. :)

hmm... mine says I got the NMB keyboard ~.~... is that good or bad? /sniff

EDIT: Mine is in Ontario too!
EDIT#2: It looks like from this thread that NMB > Alps > Chicony.

    You know what this means....
    WOOT X 2 !!!

chaosrl, the thread also states that perhaps if you call them and say you are not satisfied they will ship you an NMB for free? o.0 it may be worth it, but we should both wait til we get ours in first ;)

EDIT#3: I have called Lenovo and got a price match - for me it's only $50 cheaper with the current sales. I have yet to see a charge on my credit card though... but then again it's also the weekend too ;)

I have the same part number and screen. I am also trying to find out what brand screen I have. I go to the links provided but keep getting "...not found".

Must be doing something wrong but cannot figure out what.

Can someone help us out and let us know what screen brand we have.

    Thank You

I'll try to help you two tonight when I get back, but that won't be till later, cause I have to run for now.

acaurora: we'll see how the keyboard is. I, too, have heard NMB>ALPS>Chicony, but I've also heard that all three have their strong points and weak points. I don't remember if I mentioned it before, but I called them earlier this week and had it price adjusted down $130 to match their current offer! :) Mine now is in Phoenix (I'm in Scottsdale, but I think the UPS center for Phoenix delivers to all of Phoenix area?) and it said it left Phoenix at 6:15 this morning, but doesn't say out for delivery, just in transit. Right now it says the delivery date is Monday and it looks like I won't have to deal with customs.

edit: On The Rocks and Stoic: I looked up the part numbers for 14.1" SXGA+ panels on the Lenovo website and yours appears to be possible just a generic parts number. Did you use your serial number and get the specific parts list for your specific build to get that number, or is it just on the order status page? You need to use your serial number to grab the FRU#'s for your particular laptop. Anyways, for future reference, here are the 14.1" SXGA+ FRU#'s:

    Samsung 13N7059
    BOE-Hydis 13N7061
    TMD 13N7063

These come from this page: Lenovo Support & downloads - 14.1 inch LCD service parts

Same here with the not-dealing-with-customs. Mine is @ Mather, and it will probably make its way down to Merced probably by Monday! Wohoo!

As for the two 14.1" SXGA+....

    Samsung 13N7059
    BOE-Hydis 13N7061
    TMD 13N7063

You need to look up your orders if you ordered direct from Lenovo and then use the serial # / model # to get the parts list for your laptop. Look for the FRU# and match it with one of the 3 above numbers for the LCD. That will tell you which screen you have. I do not know which one is the "Best" for the 14.1" ones, as I have ordered a 15.4" WSXGA+

Thanks acaurora. The number is our part number from our invoice. I tried looking up the FRU# but keep getting told "cannot be found". It is acting like the link is down. I think I am in the wrong spot or something.

My laptop is in Phoenix/has been in Phoenix since this morning, but will be coming on Monday. I tried to call and have them hold it for me to pick up today, but they said that it had already been loaded and I'd have to wait until Monday. Which is bad, because unless they come after 3:00, nobody will be in the house. At least it's here though!

In order to get your FRU#'s for each part, your machine must be built (and I think shipped) but you at least need to know your machine's serial number, which appeared on my "Order Status" page the day it was shipped.

After that, you put in those two numbers at the "Warranty Info" page and can "View parts lookup results for this system," which will give you the FRU#'s that you can then match up with what acaurora and I posted. Hope that helps!

Like chaosrl said, your laptop needs to be done being built / shipped before you can find out the parts that it is made out of.

well, i finally got mine today. i missed the ups delivery man, so i made the half-hour trip down to the ups store to pick it up, and boy was it worth it! the LG screen is great, though not nearly as bright as the 19" samsung lcd that we have at home. no dead pixels, runs great, though i'm not on it at the moment because i'm transferring all my files right now. overall, great experience from lenovo!

i got mine too today~ ! I am in the middle of de-crapifying the stuff off of it and installing my own software, optimizing and the such. I really do love it though. I kind of forgot how big laptops are... this thing seems somewhat large to me... I'm not sure why. Maybe i should've bought the Sony SZ! hehe... it's incredibly quiet, the fan is great, i didn't even know it had the ThinkLight! I thought that was for just the R and the Z series... and its the white one instead of the orange one! I will definately be writing a review for NBR for this laptop, i LOVE IT!!!!!

i've got one last question for you acaurora: did yours ship with extra caps for the trackpoint? the one that came with mine is the only one i got and while i love it, i would like to try other ones too, but i guess i'll just stick with the one i got, unless i was supposed to get more. :p i LOVE this thing! :)

Hey, cool. Nothing like the fresh, un-boxing experience of a new laptop. I ended up canceling my original order and starting over. Dropping Vista Business for XP Pro and upgraded to the "ATI FIRE GL V5250 256MB" (and getting the 6-cell over the 9-cell battery. I don't run that much off the battery and wanted to cut the weight). My new ship date is 3/12 and they still haven't canceled the first order even though I put the call in yesterday morning. The guy I talked to on the phone said it still might be shipped but not to open the box and call them up for a return. I might end up with TWO T60 when I couldn't even get one. Ha!

    Placed my order 02/23
expected ship date is by or before 03/21 due to INTEL WiFi on a 10-15 day HOLD for some reason. I will be patient I guess.
Here is what I ordered and this will be my first notebook and IBM to buy.
    T60P 2.16GHZ 14.1 SXGA
    2GB RAM
    ATI FireGL 5250 256MB
    6 Cell battery
    XP Pro
INTEL Pro Wireless 3945ABG (dang thing that caused my delay!)
    8X dual layer DVD rec.
    120GB

good specs for a long lasting notebook?

Sounds like a nicely spec'ed system, congrats! Perhaps you could call them to switch to the Atheros card? I haven't had any problems with my card since I've gotten it.

That's very similar to what I just got, except that mine has a 2 GHz CPU and the 128 MB video card. I definitely wanted the Intel wireless in mine after having a bad experience with the ThinkPad wireless in a 15.4" widescreen. (The 15.4" model was just a bad experience for me overall.)

Chaosrl, weird thing is that NBR's forum's didn't email me that there were replies. In response to your last question, yes. They did ship with not only the cap that was on the laptop but it had two others in the bag. I am pretty content with the standard one, although the sunken in one does look interesting. Now if only i could find directions on how to change them... ;)
    Notes:
    - While the software is fairly updated, there were a lot of things I needed to upgrade. Rescue and Recovery is in its 4th version, and System Update is in its 3rd. I believe there are also some other ones, but I removed a majority of the software due to me not really needing unnecessary software running. (I basically left only the Power Manager, Access Connections, and ThinkVantage Productivity w/the Active HDD Protection on. Everything else, including CSS and RNR got uninstalled since I use Acronis True Image for my backup purposes)

-The touchpad is kinda small, dont you think? My roommate's got a Latitiude M65 15.4" Widescreen and his touchpad is bigger than mine =[

-I had some weird startup/shutdown delays when i began to change the software configuration, but after doing a quick restore (while RNR was removed, it still remained in the hidden partition for emergencies) it went away.

-You can hear a slight buzzing while using the eraserhead/touchpad with the wireless on... but ONLY if its in a nearly silent room... at least in my experience. The fan is extremely quiet and rarely goes on despite the caliber of my laptop.

-Be sure to update to System Update 3, you will get MUCH more accurate and up to date and basically more in general updates/upgrades. There is also a new update for the Power Manager - mine was set to dim after 1 min of inactivity and it wouldn't. Now it does.

EDIT: Well I found out how to change the caps... you just *literally* twist and pull them out. I think I'm going to stick with just the standard cap though... I've gotten used to it. I like how you can tap the eraserhead and it can register as a click ;)

It's pretty simple and straightforward. Just depress the keys surrounding the TrackPoint using one hand, and pull the cap off with your other hand. You would ideally be doing this with the computer turned off, or at least with Windows locked (Win + L).

It's not the size of your trackpad that matters; it's how you use it. At least, that's what my father always used to tell me. ;) Who needs a trackpad when you've got a TrackPoint, anyway? And speaking of alternatives to the trackpad, Best Buy currently has the Logitech V450 laser notebook mouse on sale for $35. I picked mine up last weekend, and it's been working really well for home and road use. The battery lasts up to 1 year!

lol... I actually work at Best Buy, but I do not want to carry a mouse at all. I am very efficient, so I understand what you mean by the whole 'ignore the small size' statement. Just crank up the pointer acceleration! hehe

EDIT: Just to carry this 9 page thread even further, does anyone know of / recommend a sleeve case or slim case for my new laptop that can carry the AC adapter as well? Something that at least has some padding

:( I can't find the other two caps! I'm pretty sure mine didn't ship with them. Oh well. The other thing I'm concerned about is the sticker on the bottom that tells me stuff about Vista is quite worn and has a hole in the middle. I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it.

The touchpad is a tad small, but I turn it off anyways because I much prefer the Trackpoint and I find that when I type once in a while I would accidentally hit the touchpad mouse buttons with my wrists.

I haven't heard any buzzing from the Trackpoint or touchpad, but that may also be attributed to the fact that I almost always have music playing. I haven't gone through and uninstalled much, just some of the Office 2007 stuff.

Lastly, I don't think you got emailed because I used the "Quick Reply" to post my reply :p.

I didn't want to carry anything extra with me, either, but I can't believe how useful a small, portable mouse is. I toss it in my backpack with my laptop, and I don't even remember that it's there because it's so small and light.

I guess I will be more pleased when I get it since I would have been waiting this long. but 1 month to ship out.... thats long as well.
My sister ordered a customized DELL and got it in a couple of days.

I believe Dell has factories in Texas, Tennessee, and North Carolina.

It is funny you say this.

I wanted the Atheros, Thinkpad card but was told this one is on hold due to lack of stock. I had to go with the Intel card. If you look on the Lenovo site it only lists the Intel card now.

I ordered my notebook 02/23 as well with a ship date of 03/09. It is basically the same as yours.

Is there something different between your Intel card and the one they are offering, now, on their site? In other words the one I am getting?

And why is your ship date so long compared to mine?

I custom configured mine through my company as we have company discount with IBM/Lenovo and we have a dedicated site to order.
What is funny is that my laptop just shipped today!
Impressed with build time and ship time!
1st time buyer of IBM/lenovo and thumbs up for me!

I called Lenovo today after I heard about the battery recall and the sales rep was in a huge hurry to get me off the phone. Told me they already have the new 9cells in the warehouse and that all orders will be shipped with the new batteries. I didn't ask about when mine might ship but he told me it will ship on March 5 then hung up. I ordered my T60 Feb. 4 and the last time I talked to them on the 19th(the original estimated ship date) the sales rep told me it will definitely ship before March 5, that it was held up due to the ram not being in stock. How he determined that I don't know because he didn't have enough time to really check anything. I have heard of plenty of systems shipping with the same ram configuration that were ordered well after mine. It seems these sales reps just spew whatever they feel like. I was really put off at being hung up on.

I have a question, when does Lenovo charge your credit card, when you submit your order or later when it has been shipped?

    When it has been shipped.

Be sure to check while you are waiting for it to ship if there are any specials. I believe Lenovo has a 21 day (I think it's 21... very odd that it isn't 30) price match policy. I got a pricematch for about $50 cheaper.

also, I think I've said this in nearly 5 different threads already, but be sure to update your software, because from my experience in buying my T60, a lot of the ThinkVantage software is outdated =[ (the easy way to do this is just to download System Update 3 and then run it)

Definitely check for special offers while you're waiting. I got mine down $130 dollars after I ordered it.

Where do you download System Update 3?

My T60 finally shipped. It shipped before March 5 just like the customer service rep. said. Estimated delivery date is March 8. Shipped March 3 but the tracking has not updated on the UPS site since that day, the last entry was "PICKUP SCAN" in KOWLOON BAY, HK on March 3. I don't know if the site just hasn't updated since then or if there is a problem. Seems difficult for them to get it here in Kansas by the 8th if it is still in Hong Kong on the 6th but stranger things have happened.
