What sort of floor is the desk on and are you using a 2 pin or 3 pin mains supply? Sometimes grounded systems can cause hum loops in audio systems due to leakage currents and sometimes ungrounded systems can allow voltages to float which can cause other effects.

It's on a fairly standard linoleum floor, the 12" tile variety. The plug is the 2 prong plug that came with it. The table isn't gounded, but I tried grounding it to the building ground and it didn't make a difference. It is near the main breakers for the building, and there's a transformer on the other side of the room, probably a 10'x10' or 8'x8' room. The laptop doesn't do it hovering 6" above the table. I iddn't care enough to take the table out of the room and try it in other places. I also didn't try extending a different circuit to the table to try another outlet.

We also use many other laptops on this table, it's our main staging area we use, and plenty of ultra-portables have been used on this table. This laptop just seems picky, and the info might help for pointing to a root cause.

I have this problem. Touchpad become erratic and useless when the laptop is plugged into the 90W slim. Other adapters don't cause the problem. It occurs whether the brick is sitting on a desk with the laptop or if it is suspended in the air hanging by its cable.

This thread needs to be renamed to "90W "slim" adapter is completely incompatible with X220" Its miss leading. The regular 90w works just fine and is the preferred charging and running brick. I think it would be helpful for those say newbies that don't know the difference.

Actually, no, because the support rep specifically told me that both were incompatible. It's apparently not the case, however, as I have been contacted by Lenovo and am told that the issue is being looked into. The notebook should, of course, be able to accept whatever additional power is being provided to it.

Thanks to all for the feedback and I will certainly keep you posted.

I got the exact opposite like stated on page when I called in. I use a 90w on my x220. works fine.

Correction: The notebook only takes the power that it needs.

    I'm going to make a new order for a thinkpad X220 i7
What kind of power adapter would you prefer? The 65W or 90W full-size?
    Please advice.

Unless you intend to use the adapter with another ThinkPad, the 65W is more than enough, less troublesome, and a lot smaller.

Honestly, get the full-size, if you can.

Back when I had my X220, I got it with the 65W adapter and got some CPU throttling (i7). I picked up a few 90W Lenovo full-size adapters from eBay (gotta make sure they're genuine OEM) for $20 a pop, and I just used those instead. When I got my T420, it came with a 90W regular, and I was able to leave adapters at home, office, and in my bag.

Hi Guys, Does anyone have some news about the issue with the ultraslim adapter ? I ve tried to contact Lenovo support in France, telling them that I have 100 X220s with Ultraslim 90w adapters and they can't work with it without using a external mouse. The best Lenovo support had was to send me throught the post a new ultraslim adapter. (no messages, no calls ... ) I ve tried it . Same ! How can they sell a product without testing it ! Why they dont change their website warning people that this adapter is not compatible ..

I have a X220 with the 90W Ultraslim adapter and have no issues to speak of.
