Interesting. I think I will try that out later in life once the price of SSD drops some more. Thanks for the info.

Well, shoot. Thanks for the info, but it's what I half-suspected. One of the reasons I skipped the T420s was the screen quality gamble. It's surprising Lenovo didn't make it a priority to address this in the T430s seeing as how it's the primary complaint I've heard about the T420s machines fairly consistently.

Oh well; I suppose I can provide a report when I receive my laptop this Friday.

So that's what I just ordered last night, this morning it showed as Shipping date as the 18th, but now it's been moved to the 19th. :\

Does anybody know whether the slice works on the t430s or not?
    Oh and I was wondering
    http://www.techrepublic.ch/lenovo/Lenovo_T430s_EN_29May2012.pdf
in this brochure, it lists the 9 cell slice as an accessory. It's incorrect, right? It only works on the t430?

I'd guess they have some supply problems. I ordered the 8th at 12:30am and original estimate shipping date (ESD) was the 11th, now it's the 19th and delivery by the 26th.

i just got an email informing me that my t430s Shipped On 11/06/2012!! I checked UPS but tracking info still not updated from them...

Quick question, I have a 4gb currently ram configured on the t430s... I'm thinking of adding another 4 gb. Will the ram below work in terms of ram timings and nitty gritty stuff like that??

    Corsair Vengenance CMSX4GX3M1A1600C9 4GB DDR3-1600 SODIMM CL-9-9-9-24 1.5V Memory

and why is there so little msata drives (120gb SATA3) out there!?

The MSATA market is still developing and even most MSATA SSDs are unreasonable expensive and perform worse than standard SATA SSDs (mostly due to using asynchronous instead of synchronous flash).

I got the Newegg.com - ADATA XPG Gaming Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model AXDS1600GC4G9-2 memory modules. They have the same speed as the ones you linked but are 1.35V instead of 1.5V, which might come in handy for a mobile device. More over you want to get a memory module with the same throughput and latency as the one already installed. If you don't both modules will clock down to the speed of the slower module or even to the slowest speed the mainboard supports. This can and probably will affect the HD4000 performance drastically.

ahh I see. It just seems like a waste to buy 2 memory modules and discard the stock memory.

Cant you purchase another memory with similar specs as the stock 4gb to have optimal performance?

You will have to take the exact same specs, memory is really touchy there. Even then it might not work, if they are not the same module type, due to the way the BIOS/EFI handles them. If you get the exact same specs and they work in tandem, performance will be better than with two mixed modules. However I doubt that the performance will be optimal because Lenovo probably did not put the memory with optimal performance in there. For example I guess they put 1333MHz modules instead of 1600MHz modules in there. The latency is probably not considered at all. Both together can make a big difference from a GPU point of view. But keep in mind that you will not see a huge performance boost for common office usage.

confirmed: nvs5400m is a Fermi 540m with a 12mhz lower clock spd. same core, so can easily be overclocked to be exactly like a 540m, although the quadro drivers may still slow it down.

Better in terms of what? It'll be different, that's for sure, and it's higher-resolution.

But in terms of contrast ratio or viewing angle? Probably not massively better, no. It'll depend on what panel you get though; people like some of the FRUs more than others.

Is the i5 and i7 version T430s identical otherwise? Some are saying that only i7 has thunderbolt.
Theres no mention of either having a thunderbolt port on official T430s PDF or Lenovo homepages.

The processor architecture supports dual-channel memory access with matched pairs, so you'll get slightly better performance with 2x4 vs 1x8.

You'll see the performance difference most in graphics benchmarks for the Intel HD4000, since it shares system memory.

If you think you might go to 16GB at some point, you'd be better off taking the performance hit and buying 1x8 so that you don't have to throw away the 2x4 when you decide to upgrade.

Search is your friend - this has been addressed multiple times in multiple threads on this forum and others.

Only the Core i7 T430s have Thunderbolt. The presence of Thunderbolt on the i7's clearly specified in the Personal Systems Reference document.

Im not going to buy 2000$ notebook based on forum posts. I need official conformation.

Your link leads to shop homepage.

I searched everywhere on lenovo.com site. I could not find any document what said that i5 does not have tb and i7 does. It IS NOT mentioned on OFFICIAL PDF.

But thanks for trying to help. :)

The link leads to the Personal Systems Reference, which is the authoritative source for detailed hardware information on ThinkPad systems. If your system isn't loading the link correctly, try typing it in manually: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf

Open the PDF, and you will find the following line in the "Ports" section for the T430s models:

"Mini DisplayPort (Mini DP / Thunderbolt™ combo port on i7 integrated model, switch via BIOS)"

Try Copy Link Location. Somehow the link does not work with a direct mouse click, but works with copy-paste. The TB is mentioned under Chipset info.

I can't speak for anyone specifically, but I know people who work in corporate and government locations where cameras are banned on all devices (phones, laptops included) while on the premises.
