These specs are not accurate. The PSREF is: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf

    T430: 29.8–29.9mm (1.17–1.18")
    T440p: 27.9–29.95mm (1.10–1.18")

So the T440p is in fact thinner. The 29.95mm should be the small "bump" at the back of the system where the battery is, which can be seen here on this picture:
    T440p-bump.jpg

The T440p seems to be thicker since it is not hiding its thickness like the T430 did (the front of the palmrest is more rounded). A small picture comparsion:

I've seen so many "official" figures for the thickness of the T440p that I won't believe any until someone here receives one and actually measures it :D

Well, I think PSREF is THE most official. :D It can´t get more official than that. But you are right, we will have to wait to be really sure until someone gets one and measures it.

I was just going by the numbers on the T series page, weird that they have different figures there. Regardless, you can tell that the pictures are from slightly different angles for the p versions because the screens look smaller compared to their non-p counterparts, which is not true, and seems to make the front look bigger for that reason.

I think HP and Dell have fuglier notebooks, but I must admit the T440p looks like something from 1998

Mine came in, dimensions are 13.2"x9"x1.1-1.25" (depending on whether you count the height added by the feet). First impressions are really positive, build is great, even with the quad core the heat/noise is very manageable, battery life seems not great with the i7MQ (~4 hours), but haven't really tested it yet. Screen is wonderful. Any specifics you want to know?

How often does the fan run if you are doing basic web browsing and office applications? Are you using a SSD?

So far I haven't noticed the fan while doing basic work, but I only got it ~3pm today, so I don't have that much data to go on. No SSD yet, planning on replacing the optical drive with one in a little.

Thanks. I'll be curious to hear any tips you have for the ODD replacement (e.g., whether you choose to boot from that drive, if/how you get the OS on the SSD, what kind you get, etc.). I saw that an L440 could be ordered without an ODD; too bad they don't allow that for the t440p.

Oh, did you get the Nvidia GT 730M graphics? Does it use Optimus to switch back and forth with the Intel 4600?

Can you force the use of HD4600 and what is the impact on battery life ?

If you have the time, would love to see some pictures.

Is it possible to upgrade the memory to 1866/2133MHz modules? Or is there some kind of maximum speed supported.

I'd actually be curious if anyone knows what HDD caddy would fit in this, as the drive door seems to be a different shape vs last years model.

This one has the 730M Graphics, yes it has optimus, seems to always switch to integrated on battery, dedicated on wall power, but I haven't really pushed it while on battery yet. Battery life is with the base 6-cell battery.

mmm11105, Could you make a video of your laptop? I can't find video review of 440p anywhere. I'm just curios about its size. How it looks in real life.
Also, it would be awesome if you have another thinkpad (T430, x220-x230 etc) to compare to 440p.

    The drive caddy is 0B47315

I'm super interested in how well it cools... ...that and battery life :)

I've configured a t440p and it's sitting in my cart.. I've even ordered 16gb of ram (btw newegg has a deal on crucial balistix right now... 139 vs 159)

EDIT: Nevermind, for some reason google brought be to Lenovo NZ, which sold it for $100. At $50 in the US it is not bad.

How compact is it? would you recommend it to a student who'd have to carry it across campus? Or is it too bulky and he'd be better off with a T440s?
    Thanks.

I purchased it as a laptop for school, since I'm in CS and need the power. It's not overly bulky, definitely reasonable to carry around campus, though if you don't need the power/flexibility, the T440s would be more portable.

Just wanted to say I saw that too, but they are also selling the sticks separately (look down a bit more on the Newegg ad) and its only $65 each so you can save $10 by buying separately.

GUYS, be careful! You probably know this: Haswell M processors need 1.35v SoDIMMS not 1.5v. The latter will draw too much current through the processor and lead to premature failure. If you doubt this, check the Intel website.

Yep and the crucial combo that is / was on sale at newegg is 1.35v. (had to do a sanity check and verify what was in my invoice). Good warning though.. Looks like the voltage is a less obvious spec on sodimms

Question for the few t440p owners is the touchpad glass?

    Also.. How is the cooling?

The T440p TouchPad is Mylar-plastic. The only T440x model with Glass touchpad is the T440s.

Then again, this is only their website (which also once said "IPS for the X1 Carbon Touch"). PSREF says Mylar for the T440 and the T440p.

It's definitely not glass. It has a matte texture to it. I would have preferred the TouchPad that I tested on the Yoga 2 Pro at Best Buy... I'm assuming that was glass. I was impressed by the quality/feel of that one... It was actually the first thing that got my attention. But, texture aside, I still like this one because it's sensitive and works really well. I haven't used a ThinkPad since the old T41, and compared to that I'm really enjoying the TrackPoint setup and large size. Perhaps it's a better fit for my hand. Win8 gestures are nice on it. I'm also liking the button action. It's not loud, clicky, or weird in its action. It's a nice soft springy movement that feels balanced and "just right". I've been using a terrible touchpad on my gaming laptop, a Sager NP8170. It has separate buttons but they're long and if you don't press down in the middle of them, you almost don't get a click. The pad's texture was also an aluminum with horizontal lines that felt strange on the fingertips when passing forward or back (against the grain). None of that nonsense here! The T440p touchpad gets my approval, despite being "matte" instead of "glossy". As a PC gamer, I can't help thinking this touchpad is to a normal touchpad (HP/Toshiba/Dell/etc) as an OEM mouse is to a Razor gaming mouse. Or a cheap gamepad to a nice one. You can immediately feel a quality difference.

Turns out the Norton AntiVirus 15 month isn't free. It was a bug.
They fixed the website, the same configuration now costs $30 less.

Wt%, I talked with a lenovo rep to try and cancel the Norton subscription and get the $30-40 refunded.
She claimed I was not charged for the Norton.. she did not understand that that what was bugged in their system.
She said the machine price was reduced, but that is absolutely a lie, it stayed the same - only the Norton bug was fixed.

I can't cancel and reorder because I need my machine before the 12/10 (current delivery estimate 12/09).

Ordered my T440p on 11/3. Still in the "Released for Manufacturing" phase according to the order portal. My ship date also got pushed back a week. Talking to a rep didn't really help as she said my order was already done even though it hasn't even gone through "In Production". Anybody else having this issue?

Call them back and request a price match (configure the exact same machine as you ordered and convert to a quote on teh website to prove it's now cheaper). They should refund you the difference.

    It's !$%^&* ridiculous. It's a paradox.
    - They can't modify my order and cancel the Norton because it's uncancellable and show up as free of charge.
    - They can't price-match because the cheaper machine has no Norton, and the 2 machines must have exactly the same specs.

    Huh.

Does anyone know if T440p comes with different heatsink options, depending on CPU? I mean if I get cheapest CPU, will I need a different heatsink too later when I'd upgrade to quad core?

I remember my dead T510 came with non copper heatsink due to integrated graphics card....

    Thank you in advance.

Hmmm, I hadn't thought of that. I have ordered the T440p with i3-4000M with exactly the same intention (upgrade to i7-4700MQ or i7-4702MQ later). If you get an answer from somewhere, please let me know. Likewise, I'll do the same!

    Is it the GK107 64 bit or the GK208 64 bit? DDR3 or DD5?

Anyone have any pictures of the GPU stat info page? Some actual 3dmark numbers?

I'm wondering if the 64bit GT740M will work out with less performance than a HD8750M in the Elitebook 840 G1.

It is a 25W TDP GK208 64bit 1GB memory 730M according to quite a few official lenovo pdfs. The graphics benchmarks are in this link, in the end of the article. Targeting high-end with large-screen ThinkPad T540p evaluation-IT168 notebook Corner

3DMark11 P Graphics 1762 score. As in a 15inch notebook I'd say it's crap. T440s with the same graphics card will run some games not that much slower and only because of the processor I think. But it's better to wait and see the benchmarks first and see how it performs. As I know, the card supports Turbo Boost, so the clocks however may be able to be higher on T540p if the cooling is enough,

Thanks for that link. It's very annoying that Nvidia have these "mid-range" GPUs with the same names but different performance. 15% is a reasonable difference.

Looks like the performance will be near/less that the HD8750M/DDR5 in the 840 G1.
