What a difference a day makes... I ordered the same configuration on Nov. 26 and will not receive it until the new year. Still, at least I get another 5% off![]()
I hope your shipment gets sorted out.

Sounds like I'm in the same boat as you.
Mine shipped 12/15 to Mid-South US, but is still sitting in Chek Lap Kok according to UPS, with a delivery date of "end of day" on 12/19; there has been no update since 12/16. Not placing any bets.
To be honest, I hope the T-series isn't just a more expensive clone of this L540 I've been working on. Feels cheap, and that trackpad is no Apple trackpad. -
Can someone take a picture of theirs with a quarter leaned up against it so I can see how thick it is?
-
Someone already did that. Go back and Ctrl+F "Here and here", should be the links you want
-
Links to photos are at post #517 a couple pages ago

Aaaand there it is. UPS "Exception"
Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong 12/19/2013 5:33 A.M. The airline off-loaded packages.
C'mon, before Christmas...:rolls dice: -
Same thing - mine just cleared customs. Why did that take so long?? The expected delivery date was 12/19 and it just finally got through on 12/19.
Any idea how long it would take to get to the US (midwest) now that it's actually cleared? -
Hey guys, how much battery life do you get with the 4700MQ?
-
It seems that several of the few reviews on the Lenovo website are not by happy campers.
Is the model really that bad? -
I assume not, usually most 1 star reviews have to do with DOA or slow shipping. Unfortunately there is not really much you can do to combat these.
-
I get 4-5 hours out of a 48w/h battery and 6-7 hours out of a 72w/h, though i have a slightly different laptop. The T440p has 56 and 99w/h batteries, so you can sorta do the math. Note that this is for office work and light browsing with medium brightness at most.
-
No, there were various complaints about the hardware, not doa nor shipping.
-
there are some quality issues with the new lineup, don't think people want to mention that on here
-
I saw nothing in those reviews to concern me. Most of the negative comments seemed to be about the new trackpad style, the lack of expresscard slot or the overall size, which are mostly a reflection of the buyers and their lack of research, not the machine. One reviewer was complaining that 12GB was the max amount of RAM in a T440p, for goodness sake!
Again, nothing I've read here in the past month is causing me any concern. There are always some issues with any lineup, amplified by the fact that forums like this tend to bring out complainers while everyone satisfied with their purchase just gets on with life.
I've been buying Thinkpads for a long time. With each new purchase, I've frequented forums like this to do my pre- and post-purchase research and each time I read pretty much the same balance of comments about hardware or software problems and about shipping issues (though shipping problems do seem to be slightly worse this time around). -
Will this work with our laptop?
Also i have an issue with a trackpad, when i move a mouse cursor sometimes i will bounce back to the direction it came from. Anyone got the same problem? -
I got the laptop finally and been playing around few days. I have to complain for few things:
- quality of the keyboard sucks, some of the buttons felt and sound like they are 10 year old. After adjusting the grill holding the buttons, it got better but still feels like cheapest Chinese crap
- I'm not fan of the new touchpad, due to loose and noisy clicking. First I taught it is broken... It is similar as the one on this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAwp9rHMinY
- Power management has some issues, it has changed couple of times suddenly to flightmode suggesting input power is not stable. Also it adjust the screen brightness every ten minutes...
Other than that, I got pretty much what I expected. Oh well, when I bought the machine with 8 gigs memory, all the info said machine has 1x8 memory card and the second slot is free... Well, this one has 2x4 giga cards
In overall, this doesn't feel like top of the art business model, but plastic Chinese . -

Shipping date was postponed again for my laptop.
Ordered 15th (nov), first delay to 6th (dec), 12th, 24th, and now 27th. They also did not contact me with info on my refund, the lady on the phone said she gave it high priority now and I will hear from them in 24 hours.
I've had it with them and I'm seriously considering to cancel. Anyone that has an alternative to this Chinese crap? And please don't let that be Dell or HP, I hate their guts too...
It has to have a full voltage i7 quad core and a CUDA-able graphics card, dimensions of the t440p are really maximum... I guess I'm hard to please... -
Well, I benchmarked StarCraft II Wings of Liberty (I don't have the Heart of the Swarm expansion).
Using the exact settings for Low/Medium/High/Ultra according to the benchmark site you referred to, I played through the first mission in the campaign with Bandicam running to display FPS. The lower range is during combat while guns are firing things are exploding.
Low: 110-116 FPS
Medium: 47-65 FPS
High: 30-50 FPS
Ultra: 17-25 FPS
These numbers reflect my Core i5-4300m CPU, 16GB DDR3-1600 RAM, and the GeForce GT 730M. I'm sure a higher end CPU like the Core i7 would give slightly better numbers. I was quite impressed. I'd probably choose to play on Medium settings, though High felt just fine to me also. Edit: Also, I'm using the 500GB HDD, not SSD.kordis likes this. -
Still holding at 12/21 scheduled shipping date.
I won't be picking it up until later in January anyway, so if they sit on it in HK for a while, that's OK, too.
UPS tracking actually says that? -
I'm 90% sure those 5000 series gobi cards are the ones we need.. I almost ordered the at&t one...
As far as the trackpad goes... I'm still messing with the settings on mine to get it to behave like I want... I think it may just be driver issues -
On my tracking page too. That's what it says :
I honestly don't know what to think. Should we start a separate thread about the delivery problems? They seem to have taken on a life of their own. -
ermagherd i hate da new touchpad curs u lenovo imma buy apple nao!
3 comments were litterally this. 1 star because of the lack of trackpoint buttons. -
I received my shipping information this morning!
I am currently waiting on the first update to appear now, but I had a question about processor. Lets say in the future I want to upgrade, can I simply purchase a better Haswell processor and pop it in and enjoy faster speed? Reason I am asking, is because I feel bad I didn't opt for the i5 4300M and went with the i5 4200M. Hope this won't make that big of a difference.
-
To be fair, Lenovo's order detail page has always shown an estimated delivery date of 12/23 for me, but UPS kept pushing the 12/19 date. Lenovo probably figured customs bureaucracy in their date, and is probably the accurate one.
Or...our laptops had to make a pit stop to get some extra Chinese spyware installed on them.
-
Update: just got the shipment email.
Ordered 12/5. i5-4300M, FHD, Intel 7260AC 128 SSD -
Yes, some of those reviews are awful. But...I'm assuming the trackpad on the T440p is the same one I've been trying out on a colleague's L540, and it's rather cheap-feeling. The "entire trackpad depresses when clicking" feature just doesn't feel right.
-
If that's the case, I hope they've taken the trouble to do the job right and put the malware directly into the firmware. It'd be a shame to waste their effort, but everything else is coming right out.
The Lenovo rep I spoke to today said the shipment should still arrive before the end of the year. Her explanation for the "The airline off-loaded packages." line was deeply unconvincing, but as you say, UPS was the one that raised false hopes. -
End of the year? Maaaaaaaaaaaan.
-
Tell me about it, atleast there is some progress though. Lenovo needs to step up their shipping and preparedness as its causing a lot of frustration with its customers. Im still hoping I get mine by Christmas. They did say on their website if the laptop ships out by 12/20 we should receive it by Christmas Eve
-
I had to wait 18 days. But it was worth the wait. Good luck
-
The last Thinkpad i've used was an L420, so i can't really comment on that one.
-
Mine also got "off-loaded". (What does that actually mean?) Current status is "Clearance Completed" but does that mean it's actually moving or still sitting somewhere in Hong Kong?
I don't have an estimated delivery date on the UPS site anymore (Lenovo's page is still saying 12/20). Does anyone else?
Also, were they any more specific than "before the end of the year"? That's kind of a ridiculous delay. Any chance of getting the discount from Lenovo if it arrives after Christmas? -
Wow, is that from the time of purchase or from the time you got the shipping confirmation from Lenovo?
-
@pterosaur, I might be in the same shipment as you..
Mine now reads "The airline off-loaded packages. / Released by Clearing Agency. Now in-transit"
Is that in transit... to me or away from me? -
Meanwhile, outside the Hong Kong UPS sorting office...

Oh, the sound effects on that....
@ccol - Yeah, it seems like there was an entire shipment held up with customs. My order status currently says exactly the same thing.
Meanwhile, I try to contact Lenovo on their Live Chat, which only opens a blank window.
And then I try to send an email through the form on their website and get the message "Lenovo is experiencing server issues at the moment. Please try contacting Lenovo at a later date."
Currently out of the country, so I can't call. Argh. -
Is there a way we can switch crtl and fn key? It is driving me crazy.
-
For some reason, today both my ship and delivery date have been changed to the 23rd of December. Until now, the delivery date was the 3rd of January.
I don't know if this is their way of telling me I am getting 5% off on my order, or if they are actually going to ship my laptop with next day postage.
I don't remember the original ship date, but it might have been the 23rd. -
i am not familiar with the t440p
but there are a couple things you can try,
first check if bios has an option to do so by pressing f1 on boot, >go to configuration > keyboard and mouse
and there may be an option there
if not there are some bios mods that will require you to flash your bios, <--do this at your own risk, it may harm your system, but i don't know if that is even available for the t440p -
Thank you,
There is that option. -
No change since about this time yesterday.

Update from Lenovo customer service:
"Lenovo is doing everything possible to ship all orders in time for Christmas. The decision to pay for air freight was recently made and our programmers have not had the opportunity to update the logic on the order status site to account for a shorter delivery window."
In other words, don't trust the delivery estimate on the Order Status page. But I did get confirmation that they bumped up the shipping to a faster delivery (at least for my system) so it should be fairly quick now that it's on its way. Not sure how much I trust this considering what has happened so far, but it's basically in UPS's hands now. -
What does it say on UPS's site re: status?
Edit: To add to that, I got Lenovo's email about 24 hours ago that was called "Shipment notification". And in Order Details, it's listed as shipped.
Except that UPS hasn't even received it yet. The plant generated the shipping label and communicated that to UPS, but that's the extent of it. A little bit disingenuous to declare "shipped" before the shipper even has it. -

Ordered 15th (nov), first delay to 6th (dec), 12th, 24th, 27th and now, read 'em and weep, 2nd of January 2014! Ladies and gentlemen we have a winner!
Had a very nice guy on the phone, he told me he had people with delivery dates that went as far as March! There were a lot of problems with the availability of T440 models, especially the motherboard, keyboards and screens. He said that when the 'X1 Carbon' model came out, they were having the same problems and Lenovo chose to use EU models (or the parts) to ship to US customers, so EU customers were delayed a lot. So you Murrica b-stards are f-ing lucky!
He was going to call me back after x-mas with an update on the shipping date and the discount for being shipped so darn late. I guess I really have to go and forget about the thing... -
Currently still says "clearance completed." Not "in transit." So I really don't know what to make of that exactly.
-
I hate to sound so cynical, but the longer it takes for my order to arrive, the more I'm getting soured by using other current-gen ThinkPads. I've now worked on two L540s and they feel cheap. From the looks of the design and components, the T440p uses the same parts. The keyboard flex is astonishing. Here's hoping to not having to pay the crazy 15% restock fee.
-
I'll bet that they're waiting for an airplane.
-
18 days from when i placed the order online till the delivery man stepped to my door.
-
Hey guys, here an update for my situation. On the Lenovo order status page it shows as the package is "in-transit". I check the shipping on the UPS site and the latest activity is "Export scan". I also see that it is being shipped by UPS Worldwide Expedited. Not sure if that applies to the gentlemen that spoke about the faster shipping service. UPS Worldwide Expedited has a guaranteed delivery of 4 or 5 business days. I also looked up the definition for Export Scan: The shipment has cleared export procedures in the origin country. My current estimated delivery date is Thursday 12/27/13. Hope it comes sooner!
Anyone with some similar status updates please chime in.

You have the patience of a saint. And Lenovo has the supply-chain management capabilities of a pile of poop
