When I ordered mine, the initial estimate was about a month. Then it jumped to a week, then back to a month. It actually took about 10 days I think.

Shippnig time has changed.the T440s first came out, it was about 3 weeks to ship. Mine was 13 days to ship and then 5 days to arrive. So basically 3 weeks to receive. I noticed this week the estimated ship date looks to be about 10 days after ordering. I ordered last night (11/25/14) and my ship date is 12/4. I expect it to be 10 business days.

You can read the specs of the installed DIMM with CPU-Z (or open the back cover) and order another module with the same specs just to be sure. That's what I do when I get my machine.

Does anyone have that info (or could check on their machine) so I could order before my machine arrives? If not, I can wait. :)

CPU-Z says the single 4GB DIMM that shipped with my T440p is:

    Hyundai Electronics HMT451S6AFR8A-PB. It's PC3-12800, CL11-11-11-28 1.35v.

Just a note while I'm thinking about it. I disabled the TouchPad in the control panel (no function key for this?!), leaving the TrackPoint enabled. I've only had a couple older PCs with TrackPoints and used them only occasionally. But the pad was getting on my nerves while using it laying in bed one night, so, while I generally like it, I turned it off to see how I fared. I *really* like using my laptop like this. I'm finding the keyboard feels really good to type on, and the point is better than I remember on old models. Each time I've needed to do any significant typing I find myself thinking "man, I really love this keyboard". The keys feel great, comfortable, good action, good fit for my hands. The only downside is sometimes I go to hit Esc or Delete, or something "out of the way" for my fingers - and find that a half-press on the button doesn't register. I press down better while typing, though, so I don't mind. Also, like on most laptops, the CTRL-plus-arrows to jump from word to word doesn't work very well on this keyboard, either, since the arrow keys are located slightly forward from the CTRL key (I usually use my thumb and finger on same hand to do this on full keyboards). Again this doesn't bother me too much since most laptop keyboards are spaced badly for that kind of action.

But the TrackPoint and integrated pad-buttons are pretty great once I turned off the pad. I just discovered the middle button for vertical scrolling and it's WAY better than two-finger down on the TrackPad. And mentally, it's just a relief being able to type without being careful around the pad anymore.

Also, does anyone have any information on NFC? Do any of yours have NFC? I don't see a option on the website to select NFC or not, so I guess it's dependant on another feature?

Mine is incoming on the 6th (or at least based on the last contact from lenovo) - can't wait.
Can someone with a t440p please post a pick with something next to it open and closed so I could get an idea of the thickness?
Pretty please? (it'll help with the pre-tech shivers)

I received my tenth email informing me of the "new" date today. Today they think the laptop will be shipped the 6th also.

I wonder what date it will be tomorrow.

In other news; I received the sleeve today. Very good quality stuff. But! The website says reversible. Yes that's correct, as reversible as my pants. I can wear them in different ways, but when I wear them other then the standard way, I end up looking like a retard.

It's not made to be reversible; the zipper grab thingies are like the one's you have on sleeping bags, but the rest is just a one way sleeve. It's very good quality stuff and even better if you take the price into concern (although in my opinion it should be added as a freebie, because the laptop itself is very pricey already).

Anyway, the wait for me continues. I ordered on the 15th of November, the last email states due to delay the shipment wil depart on the 6th of December.

And of course, pictures from people that already have the device are very welcome!

Just placed my order for a CTO T440p, and ordered an additional 8 GB of RAM and SSD elsewhere.

I was going to pass due to no slice battery being offered (I will miss that typing angle), but nearly $250 off for their Black Friday sale was too good to pass up. Now to start writing a "for sale" for my T420i...

That sale (giving me a total of 22% off) pushed me over the proverbial edge, too, and I ordered a T440p a couple days ago (4700MQ, FHD). My last few Thinkpad upgrades have been no-brainers, but this time Lenovo almost lost me and I still wish something like the T440p was available without the optical drive to give it a slightly thinner case. If Dell's new M3800 was not so expensive and/or had better docking options I'd probably have ended my 14-year affair with Thinkpads.

I normally disable the TouchPad in BIOS so as not to ever have to worry about it at the OS level, but I didn't know how that would affect the new Trackpoint "Buttons". So by disabling the Touchpad in Control Panel you still retain the touchpad for button functions?

I finally found a T440p review that someone else posted on another thread with pic's and Temperature readings. So I decided to compare the Temperature results with the another review of the T540p which seems to use a more robust Heatsink/Fan assembly. I also found a picture of the T440p with the back cover off and it's still hard to tell if there is any copper in the Heatsink/heatpipe area. I mean why paint the copper black? I would think that Paint would only serves as an insulator of heat. I did notice that the T440p review was done with the 47 watt I7-4700mq/GT730m quad core while the T540p review was done with the 37 watt I7-4600m dual core. After seeing that some areas of the T440p were reaching up to 113 fahrenheit while the T540p topped out at 101 farenheit I decided that it would be best to order my unit with the 37 watt I7-4330m dual core 2.8 GHz/GT730m to be on the safe side. I plan to turn off the GT730m because it's not much different than the HD 4600 integrated GPU in order to save on battery power. The heatsink/heatpipe configuration with the GT730m included should be slightly more robust, but I am speculating.

I have read in several articles that the recommended max external temps for laptops should be around 35 celsius(95 fahrenheit).

So, in case you do open up your T440p could you tell me if Lenovo really did paint the copper heatsink/heatpipes with black paint? Since I have already got a pretty good pic with the back cover off I won't need you to post any pics, but I am interested in your comments about the heatsink/fan cooling assembly including the coils inside the fan shroud. Copper painted Black? Appreciate any input on any of the issues that I have brought up.

See the following Links to reviews of the T440p and T540p including Temerature Pics to compare plus a link pic to a T440p with the back cover off. You need to scroll down to see the Temp Pics!

Where did you read that? I find that a bit hard to believe since nearly every laptop I've ever used seems to easily reach or exceed that temperature externally when working hard. Even a constantly spinning HDD would probably get things up to that temperature. The other problem is that the review did not seem to specify the ambient temperature of the room, which will always impact measured temperatures.

Aftermarket Ultrabay HDD Caddy for the T440p & T540p are now available on ebay ( here). Now I might just order a T440p (the stock Lenovo one is like $100NZD).

If anyone has a T440p with the 730M, could you please post a GPU-Z screenshot? I just want to know if the GPU memory is DDR3 or GDDR5. The website says "1GB DDR3/GDDR5" which is not helpful.

I got my T440p yesterday and I've been getting everything set up since. I'll try to put together a full review in the next few days for those interested (after the Thanksgiving weekend). Gotta say that I'm really impressed though. My specs are follows:

    4700MQ, Nvidia 730M, Full HD, 16GB DDR3L 1600 (I replaced the 4GB stock), 500GB Samsung EVO SSD (I replaced the stock 500GB HDD), Intel 7260 AC

In the meantime I'd be happy to answer any questions any of you have. I know I was really hesitant to pull the trigger since there are very few (and I know of none in English) reviews out there to go by. I also got the Ultra dock and have been using it with two external dispalys (I got the 90W adapter with the dock and I can confirm that the 90W adapter works fine with the quad versions).

Well that's a disappointment. You would've thought they could have been able to put in a decent GPU in the "p" model, instead of one that's now probably the same speed as some of Intel's high end Integrated solutions.

Yes, the GT 730m appears to be less capable than the Iris Pro, according to the benchmark list on notebookcheck.net. However, according to that list, it's significantly faster than every other integrated graphics option from Intel. Are those of you who have the machine really finding it performs the same with the discrete graphics enabled and not?

Personally, I'm looking for a notebook with a mid-range graphics card, not too dear, with some power, a good screen, and a long warranty. If the T440p came with the Iris Pro, I think it'd be just about ideal for me, but it seems like it's as close as I'm going to get with this generation, and I'm planning to order mine today or tomorrow.

There are the GPU-Z screenshots for those that were curious.

    heatsink.JPG

The heat pipes are metal painted black. I don't know if they are copper or aluminum/etc and I'm not to keen on scratching them to find out. The paint could help insulate the heat pipes so the heat is rejected at the fan, and not inside the case. Or it could be to increase the emissivity of the heat pipes. Either way, I'm sure they had a good reason to paint them.

I created a USB recovery disk from the recovery partition, replaced the drive and used the recovery disk to "Reset" the new SSD. It was way easier than any other drive migration that I've done in the past and worked well, but for better or worse the new drive was essentially a copy of the original drive (I don't think it copied the recovery partition though)... ie all the crapware that came with it was transfered to the new drive. I'll probably due a clean install sometime in the future.

Speaking of Black Friday, I see a nice deal on RAM and it raises a question.

Earlier in the thread, it was reported that CPU-Z shows the default RAM shipped as CAS 11-11-11-28. The deal I've found is for 9-9-9-28. Any compatibility issue there?

So I'm thinking of getting one of these, I just have a few questions.

Does the laptop get hot? Mostly when it's idling or doing word processing I mean, I expect it to get warm when gaming.

Speaking of gaming, how does the 730m perform? I'm looking to play Final Fantasy XIV and Dark Souls, so I don't need top of the line performance but I need it to be decent.

How about dual booting? This isn't one of those laptops with UEFI blocking dual boots, is it? I need Linux for work and school.

Also, how is the action on the keys? Similar to the T430?

If people are finding the 730M is performing less well than expected, that might be because the version that comes with the t440p is the one with a 64 bit memory bus instead of the 128 bit memory bus. I've confirmed with with a Lenovo sales rep. This makes sense in a business machine, but it's disappointing, of course.

I don't understand why they include a discrete graphics chip at all if if performs that bad. They should have just offered one version with Iris Pro and one with HD graphics.

I'm doing some research on memory bus width, but according to an earlier thread on these forums and other things I've found online, the 64 bit memory bus might mean a 30% slowdown in GPU.

Someone with more technical knowledge might know more.

Anyone running Linux on theirs and experiencing loud popping noises on shutdown?

Also, it's touted as a business laptop, not really made for gaming. Not sure why they ditched the Quadro NVS for the GT 730M. Even though it does perform better in DirectX, the performance in Compute and OpenCL is lacking, something you really want when working with 3D in a business environment.

I'm sure Lenovo got some sweet deal from Nvidia to include the crippled "new" version of the GT730M (although this version of the 730M does apparently use slightly less power than the 128bit version). I agree, however, that it would have made far more sense to simply offer machines with the 4750MQ and 4850MQ processors that have Iris Pro graphics and probably use less power overall that the current option. That said the GT730M is not *that* bad, although the measly 1GB of VRAM is ridiculous IMO. And I've yet to see any meaningful test results comparing the performance of GK208 and GK107 versions.

All in all I'm slightly baffled like many others about the entire GPU implementation in the T440p, which in my opinion is not worthy of the "p" designation. It's more like a T440m where "m" = "meh" :D
