I didn't forget the extra cost. Somehow Dell is running 30% discount on a newly introduced model. That seems to speak to how much profit they all carry.
The T440p screen can be downgraded in the configuration (TN 1600 x 900) to get a direct comparison.
The Dell weighs 4.68 pounds, arguably close to 4.7 for the T440p. They come from the same country of origin and both new models.
Kind of makes you wonder.
But alas, Dell only offered the TN display.

I've seen "some" reports of people getting a bad FHD AU Optronics AHVA panel but nothing that suggests there is a problem with a lot of them. However, out of curiosity, let's say Lenovo was seeing a lot of bad panels and decided to switch suppliers. What other 14" IPS panels are even available? I was under the impression that was one of the reasons we hadn't seen FHD IPS panels in the past is that almost nobody makes them in 14" size. Aren't the vast majority of FHD panels either 13.3" or 15.6"?
-
Also would like to know. I saw some pictures on a Chinese site and it actually doesn't look too bad. Then I saw another picture and it looked like a laptop from 2002. Confusing..
-
Lenovo's site has the dimensions listed. Seem to recall about 1.3" which would be almost 1/2" more than the s model and about 5/16" more than the T440.

Order detail now shows shipping 12/23.
Hard drive bay shipped yesterday.
Edit: UPS tracking info is now up. Hard drive bay has shipped from Hong Kong. I thought that those came out of Carolina, for US addresses. -
Ordered 11/19, Estimated shipping 12/9. No news...
-
Ordered 11/15, Shipped today
finally.. -

Is this also possible with the T440p?
I would be happier with the option to get the 'Right-click' button back... -
Ordered on 11/15 and shipped today. Finally.
-
Yes, this option is in our BIOS settings.

My order status just changed from "Customer Action" (been that since I placed the order) to "Released to Manufacturing"; not sure if that's particularly significant, but, hey, it's different.
Ordered on 11/27, still shows a 12/19 ship date and arrival by 12/27. -
That's odd... mine was "released to manufacturing" the day after I ordered.
-
Same here I think it was "released to manufacturing" the first time the order status page worked
-
Where can I see a lot of nice pictures of this laptop? Anyone got one yet?

Is there a specific reason why one would want to use such feature? Was it the other way around on earlier models? -
Because they are used to other keyboards? That (in my opinion, poorly placed) Fn key is my pet peeve with Thinkpads. Thank god Lenovo lets us remap them in the BIOS.
-
Yeah, if you're used to using keyboard shortcuts, like in Word or any program really, even just getting around in Windows, you may use that CTRL key location without thinking. Games too, for crouching in first person games, etc. I'm a computer tech and I use CTRL-SHIFT-ESC all the time to launch Task Manager. This Fn key has thrown me off many times. But I kind of don't like remapping keys to do things they're not labeled for.
I serviced a Lenovo G-something laptop a couple weeks ago and it had the CTRL key in the corner where I expect it. So I think the 2nd question gets a "yes" too.

Makes sense yes, when it's in the outer corner you can find it without looking...
Next step; lcd's in the buttons to make the labelling more dynamic. -

Just saw that my ship date has changed, it's now a week earlier than it was yesterday. Excited!

Lenovo's shipping in a nutshell:

ROFL!!!
Man.
EDIT: You're right, it just increased by one day. LOLJobine likes this. -
I have heard some complaints the keyboard, but how does it actually compare to what's on the previous generation of Thinkpads? (Specifically, I've been using a W530.) In the pictures it looks pretty much the same.

Hey guys,
Do you know what is the type of RAM used by Lenovo in T440p ?
PC3-12800 ? PC3-14900 ? PC3-12800 • 9-9-9-24 ?
Ty -
DDR3L-1600Mhz
-
You will most likely need DDR3L, though i bet the one you linked is DDR3L and crucial forgot to advertise it.
From the site:
Processor
Intel Core i3-4000M Processor (3MB Cache, 2.40GHz)
- Operating System
Windows 8 64
- Display
T440p 14.0HD WWAN
- Graphics
Intel HD Graphics
- Memory
4GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600MHz SODIMM -
Yeah, it's 1.35v but Crucial doesn't bother using the "L" designation for some reason
-
Here's a reminder of what RAM ships with the T440p.

Perhaps it's a good idea to combine FAQ's answer posts and put them in the start-post. Makes it a lot easier to find.
RAM is one of them, but also pictures, etc. -
Maybe one of you should open an "Owners Thread" for the T440p now that more and more people get their T440p. This indeed would make informations a lot easier to find.
-

I wish I could call myself owner... Mine isn't even shipped yet...
-
You're in the gestation period. Your "baby" isn't ready for delivery yet.
-
Another discrepancy I noticed in some of the T440P marketing material[.pdf] is the claim that the T440P has a glass trackpad. In the Lenovo PSREF[.pdf] however it states the T440P has a mylar trackpad.
Which is correct? -

Well, they better hurry up with the contractions, because I ejaculated €1700 and I'm still left with blue balls...
Tomorrow is the 12th. If I don't have an email telling me it shipped before Digital River closing time, I'm going to nag about it on their phone in stead of on your internets.AnakiMana likes this. -
I just noticed that in the promo photos, I don't see speaker grilles anywhere. Are they on the bottom?
-
I'm curious about this as well as the hardware maintenance manual doesn't show two speakers. It shows a single unit in the middle of the chassis. Perhaps there are two drivers on either side of this single unit and the sound is piped out through some slits? I haven't seen any high res photos of the front edge so a current owner will need to comment on how it actually sounds.
-
There are two small grills on the front edge, almost looking like a single slit, but they're separated in the middle if you look closely. If you were looking at how thick the laptop was from the front, you'd see it.
As for loudness, I was pleasantly shocked after owning too any irritatingly quiet laptops. -
Ultra bay IV for hard drive delivered.
Total shipping time from Hong Kong to Los Angeles: about 46 hours.
Impressive. -
Got my shipping confirmation today with approx 10-14 days for shipping and delivery according to lenovo. so chances are slim having the thing for xmas. And it took them exactly one month from order to shipping. very sad!
I've also ordered the Ultrabay from a local store 3 weeks ago. ETA mid January 2014. Whamoooo!!!
-
Where do you live?
From reading this thread, I gather that at some point there was a delay introduced in production, perhaps to get a new vendor or to replace some supply--displays, possibly.
My estimated ship date is 12/23, 18 days out from order. And that date actually improved by 8 days from the original order detail. -
Review Thinkpad T440p và Thinkpad Laser Wireless Mouse - vozForums
This review has a few images of the laptop if anyone is interested.
Also, in terms of shipping dates I think it matters heavily on what parts you ordered. It seems like setups with the Nvidia graphics or FHD display are being delayed -- from what I've gathered reading this thread, at least.
Edit: I ordered mine on 12/05 (4800MQ, Nvidia 730M, Intel 7260AC) and the initial shipping date was 12/28. It was pushed back to January 6th, and just now jumped to 12/30. So right now I have no clue when mine is going to actually ship. I was hoping to have it for the holidays but I guess I can't really expect that considering people who ordered a month ago are only just starting to receive theirs.
I also kind of hope that they resolve the issue with the loud fan in the second batch. That is sort of a deal breaker for me :/ -
Same. I'd rather wait for a device that works than get one sooner and have to send it back anyway.
-
Apparently the fan is loud. I don't know what the exact issue is, but the T440s has the same problem.
-
Someone over at the Lenovo forum is reporting that his brand new T440p is bricked after updating the firmware. He may have a second one with the same problem, but I can't tell what he's saying about that one. There's also a thread about T430s that are completely hosed after updating the BIOS from Lenovo Update.
Doesn't inspire confidence. -
I've updated my BIOS twice without issues. Both times I browsed the driver download area of the site to download it manually. I didn't use any update manager.

I think it's more likely that they screwed up while doing the BIOS update than that Lenovo would push out an update that would brick the device. PEBKAC error
