Where did you order it from? Seems like the 1.1 is a lot easier to find than the 1.2.

What's the difference between B140HAN01.1 and B140HAN01.2? I'm planning to order from this site where they promise zero dead pixel and zero dead spot. They allow buyers to select either glossy/matte type screen. I'm not sure whether they allow buyers to choose the model as well. I'm definitely getting to replace my hd+ screen.

I have found this virtually impossible to get to the bottom of.

I have tried to contact AUO - they ignore every contact attempt.

Many suppliers are vague about the differences. I suspect they are in the dark to.

I have the data sheets for both (I tried to attach them but I think they are too big. PM me if you want them)

Both claim to be anti-glare coated.

.1 is older - but still in production. It has thicker glass by 0.2mm. .1 seems to be very matte but has the snow/glitter characteristic of the some matte coating.

.2 is more recent and still in production. I don't know but I suspect the coating is different. Some say its the glossy version but not that glossy.I have never seen one to compare

HidEvolution said ".1 was made for Asus, Acer, and other manufacturer laptops while the .2 was made for HP laptops specifically"

I fitted the .1 instead of the .2. It fits and works fine.

However I am having trouble adjusting to the matte coating. I'm loving the freedom from reflections but am finding its giving me eye strain. This my entirely be specific to my eyes. But I did not notice this with the LG panel.

Other possible reasons - PWM freq - is 200Khz - is that enough? sheet says its a 6 bit + FRC panel = flash colour pixels at your to fake a bigger colour depth. I cannot find the data sheet for the LG panel to compare. Or perhaps my panel is just broken in some way

I would really love to get to the bottom of the difference before committing anymore cash.

    Hi,

Can you tell me the difference between the

    B140HAN01.1
    and
    B140HAN01.2?

Is it possible to specify which one on order?

    Thank you,

    Michael

Hi Michael, I received my display today, sent out by an aliexpress seller. The tutorial you've posted on the previous page helped a lot when I actually got to putting the screen in the case.
I too received a panel which is the .1 version and can definitely recognize the snowy/gitter effect of the display you mentioned. Since I've never tried out the .2 version, I can't say for sure that the coating is different in the newer iteration of the panel but I can provide information that the 1600x900 AUO display, previously delivered with my original T440s configuration, had the same "snowy" coating. It will be hard to get used to it after years of working with the T410s with clear coating and higher brightness, but let's hope for the best :) I couldn't recognize any dead pixels or spots so far, so I got that going for me :)

    OP here
I recently got my new screen from amazon
I bought a B140HAN01.2 and got a B140HAN01.1, contacted the seller and he said that the two versions and identical.
I installed the new screen earlier today, using this tutorial: The perfect commuter developer linux laptop: Replacing the display on the T440s (he also used a B140HAN01.1)
The screen is amazing! great angles. tilting it all the way down and the picture remains the same as opposed to the LG

Edit: I also used the old front bezel and it sticked just fine

I installed the B140HAN01.2 in a Lenovo L440. I will say that it does have the snow/sparkle effect. When compared to my T440s, I can easily see the difference. The T440s display is smooth and the colors are perfect. On the L440, the colors are great but I can see the coating is producing a sparkling effect.

but.. i regret nothing, love the screen now!

Go to Control Panel > Device Manager > Monitor, double-click it and go to the "Details" tab. Change the drop down to "Hardware IDs". You should find something usable (to google) there. If it says: "LEN40A3", it's the LG screen.

Mine is showing "LEN40A3". That means I have the LG Screen.

But when I checked in the BIOS, show says
    Manufacturer: "AUO".
    Manufactured date: 2012, week 0
    Model number: B140HAN01.2
    Resolution: 1920 X 1080 pixels

I didn't know you were googling. From the title of this thread, I assumed that those who are discussing the screen issues or visiting this thread already have a Lenovo T440s and know how to find this information and not googling.

    But I was wrong.

Then why would you post here? :)

Jokes aside, I do have a T440s and I do know how to find the info. From an earlier post, you appeared to not understand how to find the info in the system firmware, so I googled an alternative method for you. Point is, everything you've asked and more is available via search.

Ordered a screen too from ALI - got tired of my LG and the spotlight effect so we'll see how soon it shows it. Got an email today it was shipped and I got the 3-7 day DHL option to Germany so we'll see how fast it comes :)

I've noticed that my screen changes colour\brightness. Sometimes it's bright as normal as I set it to Full brightness on both AC & Battery.

After a while may be 10 to 20 minutes, It gets dull with a brownish\yellowish colour. Is there a hidden settings that changes this or is it faulty. My screen is the AUO Model

Got my AUO LCD today and installed it right away. Much better LCD from viewing angles. Taking out the LG LCD was easy enough, just go slowly and it's a piece of cake.

Seems I got version 1.2 as well:

    IMG_20140915_132115.jpg

The only issue is that it's really WARM in color right now so i'm just waiting to see if the lamp will brighten up shortly or maybe when I reinstall the OS it will look better (i'm guessing it's a color profile thing which was installed for the old LG LCD).

I'll update later when I see how this thing looks when it's broken in for a few days.

Here's my saga, which finally concluded a few moments ago:

    Screen #1

I ordered the 1.2 screen from "East Coast LCDs" (ECL) via Amazon the same day I ordered the Thinkpad from Lenovo in late August. It came in a couple of days after the laptop, so I was immediately prepared to install. However, I'd received the 1.1 screen. Disappointed, I called ECL (who is also responsive to the name "Bliss Computers") and learned about the word game most sellers seem to be playing from one of their managers. The 1.1 screen is a "compatible replacement" for the 1.2. So when we see a screen advertised as "B140HAN01.2 Replacement Screen", understand that the resellers consider the two to be interchangeable, and typically have far more of the 1.1 than 1.2 in stock. For this reason, the manager at Bliss declined to reimburse my return shipping cost ($10), but did offer to exchange specifically with a B140HAN01.2 for free. It's worth mentioning that they did agree to cross-ship once I provided a tracking number for my original return.

    Screen #2

I received the replacement about a week later...but it was again the 1.1 screen. When I called this time, I chose the "RMA Department" menu selection, which connected me to "April" (remember this selection and name, they're important). April apologized and offered to replace it. I was peeved, so I decided to share a few thoughts with her. I was polite, but explained that numerous owners online are considering the same replacement and are seeking reliable sellers, that they were not proving themselves to be reliable, and thus shooting themselves in the foot by not simply "getting it right". Although I was ready to give up, she asked me to hold. When she returned, she said that they had 25 of the specific 1.2 model in stock and that she would pack my return herself. Ok! I decided against giving up. She even agreed to cross-ship via Fedex ground instead of Smartpost at my request, the latter of which took longer than expected with the first two.

    Screen #3

I finally received a B140HAN01.2 a few days later. It immediately went into the computer. The screen was cracked in the lower left corner. I called April again, but she said that her inventory system wouldn't allow her to issue anymore replacements on my original order/RMA number. Her manager recommended I order from a partner site closer to my location (Bliss is in New Jersey), as I'm soon departing on an extended business trip. The other company was closed for the weekend, so I stuck with Bliss. They next-business-day Fedex'd another screen (again packed by April) on Friday and refunded my original Amazon order. They did not require me to return the cracked screen after I emailed photos.

    Screen #4

Today I get home from work and it's waiting. I'm an expert at swapping screens now; I needed less than five minutes to get the new one in. FINALLY! It works!! It isn't cracked, scratched, or the wrong model number. It is also without the "frosted look" that some others have mentioned, which is due to over-application of anti-glare coating at the factory. The display is a bit warm as SHoTTa35 noted. I'll see if that clears up, but I'll likely try to use a calibrated color profile, or just get my hands on a calibrator. Otherwise, it's very clear and without any of the issues HD+ users have discussed.

    Conclusion

Knowing what I know now, I would order from Bliss via their ECL Amazon account again. But I would then immediately call their RMA department to speak with April and request she ensure that specific part number gets packed. I doubt that I would have received such persistent service had I ordered on eBay, and the turnaround time via Aliexpress would have been unacceptable for my specific situation. If you've got the time, give Ali a go. Otherwise, jump through the extra hoops to get exactly what you want from Bliss / East Coast LCDs / Amazon.

Wow, thanks for people like April then! Someone get this woman a "atta girl" for doing a good job. She needs a little extra in her Christmas bonus too :). If you got an email address for her or her boss we should all send her a great thank you!

For that color profile, email me it when you get it at [email protected] but i'll be formatting soon (gonna format and setup my server first then do the laptop) so I will see if that makes a difference with the LCD. I checked in the BIOS but that didn't help much as those screens aren't "white" per say. I'll have to fire up an Ubuntu live CD or so to test.

    Thanks!

Mine still looked a bit warm at 50% brightness. At first I thought it might be because my desktop monitor is set to be a bit on the cool side. Then I cranked the T440s brightness to 100% and it looked near-perfect to my eye. I'll still keep it at 50%, though, as I'm getting 8-10 hours battery life that way. Furthermore, 100% brightness on this display is going to be rather harsh with any color profile.

I just recived my T440s late last week and it came with a horrendous LG screen. I mean viewing angles are so bad, my white's are basically grey 90% of the time.

I called in right away and told them I had a defective LCD. The agreed to replace it and since it was my first call, they sent an on site tech. I specifically asked for the AUO FRU (04X0436) and the CSR let me know that while he'll put down that FRU in the part order, if it's not in stock (and it wasn't) then it'll most likely get subbed for the LG FRU.

The tech shows up the next day and of course, I get sent another LG screen. To my good fortune the replacement screen simply wouldn't turn on. Now I received my second replacemnt and thankfully, it's an AUO screen BUT it refurbished part....

Hopefully, this new screen works and doesn't have any issues.

    I'll post pictures soon!

Just got our 5th T440s here and it has another LG screen. Same exact issues as those purchases late last year.

This one does have the better keyboard without the blinding backlights, but the touchpad is by far the loudest and most over-sensitive of any of them we own.

I posted this in Lenovo forums but this has been a very informative thread so i'll post this here aswell:

So, my screen was finally changed from LG to AUO - thank goodness.

I have seen people in this forum and in other forums claiming that the difference between those two panels are somewhat exaggerated and that the performance of both screens are excellent. I strongly disagree.

I have seen four (4) LG LP140WF1-SPK1 panels that have had miserable performance and now that i have AUO B140HAN01.2 finally installed on my T440s and compared this side-by-side on my colleagues T440s with LG, i can really say that these panels couldn't be more different from each other and i'm suprised that Lenovo calls these subsidiary products.

I took alot of pictures and little bit of video. CLICK HERE to see two T440s laptops, one with LG and one with AUO, compared side by side. Pictures are taken in both BIOS LCD Information screen and Windows 7 / Firefox displaying google front page.

Preview (NOTE: Camera does exaggerate the differences a bit but trust me - they really are that different:
    lenovo_forum_kuva.jpg
    MORE PICTURES

LG has much cooler colors than AUO, which is quite yellow-ish before calibration. AUO (at least the one i got) has a bit more of backlight bleeding than any of the four LG's i've seen.

But the spotlight effect on LG is just ridiculous. It's like a TN panel from 10 years ago. LG also has much more visible and aggresive anti-glare coating and this "screen door effect" which looks like a very small, dirty "mesh" on your screen. I suspect this is due to the AG-coating.

I had a tech out today to do the screen swap, and he brought the right one (thank God!). The new screen (AUO) is beautiful, and I am super happy. However, I've convinced myself that he didn't put the bezel cover on perfectly straight, and it's bugging me. Is that something that would be easy to realign or would I potentially have a problem with the adhesive not sticking...? Or am I working myself up over nothing? I'll try and post a photo later.

I found a dealer selling the screen for under 100 bucks for the auo 1.2. I got the IPs Matte and it's beautiful!! Check out the viewing angles. If you need to know the dealer shoot me a pm and I'll let you know who.

    Thanks.

Did you buy from East Coast LCDs? They sent me a crappy TN Innolux panel.

That looks amazing. What drives me crazy is that that's exactly what I'd been expected when I purchased this machine, and definitely did NOT get. Is it possible to PM me the source for where you got that screen?

Also, I don't recall - are people buying new bezels as well, or just trying to reuse the original.

I reused my bezel for the first transplant and it stuck back perfectly. Make sure to remove it carefully so that the adhesive strips are still intact.

I'm waiting for a 'real' AUO 1.2 screen to arrive from AliExpress. Will try to reuse this bezel again for another transplant.

Did you sent the original one back? I am. Also hoping for a full refund, if not I will file a claim with Amazon. Why not go with laptopscreen.com or whoever the elusive @kiddkynetik source is?
