Isn't the T440s with the I7-4600U running 4400?
-
-
All of the T440s versions are running the HD4400 to my knowledge. I think the 4300U and 4600U have the same GPU clocks (that is, marginally faster than the 4200U).

Found the first issue in my t440s, from time to time the wifi will not connect no matter what. It will still show all the available wifi networks but doesn't matter what I do I cannot connect. I have the Intel AC 7260. Is this a known issue? The only solution I found so far is to reboot.

That started about 2yrs ago with older cards and still ongoing. I had it for a bit but don't anymore on my 6300 or my T440s.
Speaking of which - I got the LG display
() but it's not so bad so I can live with it actually. It does have that spotlight portion so I might still end up replacing it but for now it'll definitely be "good enough"
Other than that, loving this machine

Got the LG screen and I find it mediocre. Also the clickety-clackety trackpad, and the speakers as well. Will return this machine. How often does Lenovo release new versions? I am curious about how all the critique about the T440s will be taken.

Received my Thinkpad yesterday. Installed an SSD and +8GB ram. All went smoothly. Installed windows 8.1 pro and then Thinkvantage (i think?) utility and got all the updates/drivers. I played on it for 2 more hours and then went to bed. Today when I went to use it, it was dead. Plugging it in does nothing. I've tried everything I can think to do or read about online. Contacted lenovo and they are going to send another from CHINA. I have no idea how long this is going to take. Right now i'm leaning towards just getting a refund.
-
I have no idea if this would work, but go into the power settings and change the WiFi card to max performance on both battery and AC power. It fixed a problem I was having (though not the same one you have).4minuteslate and skitahoemc like this. -
^^ Great suggestion. I fixed my computer problems many times before because of this issue. Also graphics card issues can be changed the same way.
-
Did you guys do anything after installing your own SSD? Any settings i should enable/disable? Sleep/Hibernate? Please let me know.
Also, after installing the SSD, what did you do w/ the 16gb m.2 drive? I have left it alone for now but i'm not sure if thats what caused my previous problems. -
Will give it a try, although it happened when I had it plugged on.
-
Go to device manager and disable the power savings for the wifi card. That solved my consistent connection dropping issues with my single-band Realtek 802.11n card on Xirrus APs, for example. (At school, we have carts full of Lenovos with Realtek cards that glitch all day long otherwise.)

Hey everyone,
I have had my t440s for a few months now but just recently ran into a issue with the bluetooth. I have the Intel AC 7260 with driver version 17.0.1401.422. I only recently tried to connect my android kit kat phone to transfer a few photos to my t440s which is running windows 8.1.
My cell phone successfully paired with my laptop after entering the pass code, however, every attempt to send the photo via bluetooth failed. There was no notification on the laptop or option to accept or deny the file.
I have already updated the driver to 17.0.1401.422, I tried using another phone to see if the original phone had bluetooth issues but the files sent from that phone also failed. However, when sending files from one phone to another, the file transfer was successful.
I also unchecked the option for "the computer to turn off bluetooth to save power option in device manager. All the boxes for the bluetooth settings via "open settings" are checked. (The three boxes in the options tab and two boxes for the shared folder tab.
Any help to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated!~ -
Disabling Hibernate doesn't do anything to help your SSD, although it can be useful if you have a lot of RAM and a small SSD (12GB of RAM in my T440s would mean a 12GB hibersys file) and don't use Hibernate much.
-
Anything else or you just went plug and play?
-
Ok, I just had a weird issue pop up. I'd imagine it is a settings thing, but no idea what.
When I first got the laptop it was set so that the window below the mouse cursor was where scrolling would occur, but the active window would not change. So, I could have a Word document on the left half of the screen and be typing in that (active window), and then have the mouse cursor on the other half of the screen and scroll through the other word document with the trackpad. This made things really convenient because I didn't have to keep switching the active window back and forth.
Now this is no longer working. I can have the active window on the left, and position the cursor over the right half of the screen, and the window on the left stays as the active window until I do something else with the mouse (like scroll). Then the window below the mouse becomes the active window.
Any idea how to turn this off? I updated some drivers/programs recently, so my guess is it is somehow related to this. Problem is I don't recall what was installed. I do know the Lenovo Autoscroll Utility was updated, but I have no idea if that might be the cause of the problem (or how to roll back to a prior version).
Any ideas? -
Ok. I was just able to go back to the prior version of the Autoscroll Utility. That didn't fix it. Any ideas?
-
Sorry for the double post, but can anyone try sending photos or files via your phone to your laptop by using bluetooth, I am wondering if this is a wide spread issue or if I am the only one experiencing this problem which probably means that one of my settings is off for blue tooth and is fixable.. -
I can confirm that Bluetooth transfers work both ways between my android phone running slimkat 4.4 and the t440s. I have the 7260ac card.
To test, from my phone, I opened the Google photos app, then hit the share button on a photo, selected Bluetooth as the intent, and selected the paired laptop. On the t440s a dialog box opened asking where to save the file.
From the pc, I right clicked a photo, send to, Bluetooth then selected the phone. My phone asked me to confirm the transfer.
Hope that helps... Sounds like something's up tho.

Is this laptop worth it? How is the touchpad for users who have had it for a while?
-
Yes it is. If you're used to the trackpoint you won't like it much due to its lack of buttons. Otherwise it's fine, similar to Apple, with a few glitches here and there but nothing major. My trackpad isn't noisy as some report.
-
I receive my T440s today from the outlet deal on Memorial Day. How to check the specs of my T440s? (the serial number is CTR### 012### which does not appear on the part lookup.
-
Thanks so much for testing it out.. my wifi is fine.. seems that the bluetooth part of the 7260 card in my t440s is faulty. I really don't have time to send it in.. I probably need to just go without it.. what a shame..
-
just got my 440s today, trying to use the trackpoint only, can i press the left/right button without pushing down on the trackpad (it makes a big thud and moves the mouse cursor so its not accurate) ?
What mouse settings would you recommend?
EDIT: i disabled the touchpad, just using the TrackPoint and its working pretty good. -
Is the touch AUO less crisp than the non-touch AUO? (Because of its extra layer, supposedly.)
-
From what I've read it seems that they are just as crisp. I thought I really wanted a touchscreen, but went with the non-touch in order to save money, maxamize battery life, and reduce weight.
The best advice I got was that touchscreens are for tablets and phones: a laptop with a touchscreen was stupid since the screen moves back if you put pressure on it. The screen is further away from your hands on the keyboard, so you might get gorilla arm or just not use it as much. And better pointing options are available: mini bluetooth/optical 2.4ghz mice, trackpad, and the touchpad. -
Thanks bulbasaur. Hopefully someone here had the chance to compare both touch and non-touch AUO panels and so confirm what you read. If the non-touch happens to be crisper I would try my luck one more time (just returned a T440s with the LG), also because I agree a touch-screen would be somewhat superfluous to me.
Another alternative would be to wait for the coming (don’t know when) t440s refreshment and see if Lenovo took all the critique into account. -
So after spending the last 4 months reading threads, trying to decide on the X1C or T440s, and waiting on a bit of a better discount, I have finally pulled the trigger and ordered a machine. i5-4300U/Win7/FHD IPS/12G/256 SSD/7260AC. I know I could have saved abut $250 by upgrading the ram and hdd on my own, but didn't want to go through the hassle, given the feedback here on opening up the machines.
Thanks to everyone on here who has provided endless support in terms of Q&As, reviews, and solutions, etc. I look forward to continuing to be part of this thread and adding my 2 cents.
Fingers crossed I get the AUO screen. Now I wait... -
Apart from Lenovo taking 3 months to fix my malfunctioning trackpad (and fobbing me off with excuses), I am very pleased with my T440s purchase. So I would say you made the right call
Also good call on avoiding the self ram/hdd upgrade - I hope I never have to go through the stressful experience of carefully prying open my laptop again! -
Sorry to hear you had issues. I ended up getting a 1 yr onsite+accidental to try to ensure I'm not away from my machine from a prolonged period. Even with all the negative comments/bad stories I opted not to go with Apple or Samsung. This will be my first Lenovo/Thinkpad machine, I hope I am not disappointed. Lets hope I made the right decision.
-
I apologize if the thread is littered with these posts, but my pc search has led me to the T440s. So- I'm here to ask y'all:
Is this computer worth the purchase? If I'm looking for a capable thin computer, is it a good choice? Forget the price- is this computer worth owning? Any upgrades you would suggest from the base model (like if RAM cannot be added- I'm relatively handy with a computer repairs).
Thanks for the help!! -
Yes, it does.
It is good choiice if you are looking for everyday machine.
Just need to install Ubuntu  -
Hello, I'm a new owner of a T440s (model 20AQ005QUS; has 500GB HDD + 16GB SSD) and have a few questions regarding upgrading the HDD to an SSD. I'd very much appreciate some assistance and advice.
1) I've opened the machine and replaced the HDD with an SSD and have added some extra RAM. I've recovered the machine using the 4 disk Windows 8 recovery DVD set that came with the machine (Applications & Drivers Recovery Disc 1 & 2, Operating System recovery disk 1 & 2). During the recovery, I was asked if I wanted to format both disks in the system. I selected yes. I assume that the 16GB SSD was originally being used as some kind of cache drive in conjunction with the HDD, but its not clear to me what, if anything, it is being used for now that I have upgraded the main HDD to an SSD. During the recovery I was not asked what function the 16GB SSD should take. How do I establish what its being used for? I assume it would be unnecessary for it to act as a cache drive now the main drive is an SSD?
2) The official recovery process adds a bunch of bundled software. Is it possible to do a clean install of Windows using the included recovery DVDs, or would I need to buy a separate copy of Windows if I want to do a clean install? The recovery instructions are to start with Applications & Drivers recovery disk 1. I wonder if starting with Operating System recovery disk 1 would result in a clean install?
3) When I removed the HDD, I noticed that it was partially wrapped in some kind of foil. What is the purpose of this foil? Is it necessary to transfer this foil wrapper on to the SSD I have installed in the system?
Thanks -
The foil is to protect the HDD. You don't need to worry about it on a SSD.
-
If you press the touchpad and your cursor moves, you need to update the driver. The latest drivers ignores small movements when you click. Use the Lenovo Update Search utility. It is great for installing all the drivers quickly.citan likes this.

You can use command prompt and completely erase the drive and reformat to use it as a separate storage device. It is useful if you want to use Bitlocker and put very sensitive files on it. A laptop thief would not even notice it compared to the SSD (if he was even smart enough to take the SSD). I will attach the instructions below.
diskpart
to enter the diskpart program. This program is a low level partition management program so be careful what you're doing here, but you just need to know a few commands.
list [disk|partition|volume|vdisk] lists whatever you specified.
Start by typing `list disk` to get a list of your disks. It should be obvious which one is the cache drive (unless you happen to have a 16GB flash drive plugged in, in which case just remove it lol). Then you can use
select disk #
where # is the number of disk that your cache drive is at.
The last step is REALLY DANGEROUS so make sure you've selected the right disk. You can run list partition to see what partitions are on the drive to make sure you're in the right place.
clean
will erase the entire partition table or whatever on the drive, as if it was brand new out of the factory. Then if you run the disk management snap-in (search for Disk Management under settings or win+r diskmgmt.msc) it will prompt you to initialize the disk, and then you can do so and create a new partition. I think I'll probably throw my page file or hibernation file on there just to save space on my main SSD, might as well since it's there

Was yours a Touch or Non-touch version?
-
It was the non-touch version.
-
I really hope I get the AUO / not lg screen... :-/
Don't want to have to deal with a return....but in case I do, can someone give me an overview or a link on how to go about it? -
I opted to get the 3 year onsite warranty (student). Would they send out a tech to replace the screen if I was disatisfied with the LG one?
-
Unless there was something technically wrong with the screen, the odds would be against you.
-
And they'll send you another LG, no matter how many times you call to confirm that you'd like the AUO one.
-
Whoopity-doo!
I just opened the box, turned it on, and I went into bios and also device manager. It just said lenovo lcd display...no LG / AUO. Should I look somewhere else?
The screen looked okay, but did have some uneven lighting when the screen is tilted back at about 120*
Otherwise, the machine looks good, and am happy with it otherwise.
Edit: Nevermind, figured it out. Going to download the software and find out tomorrow. Thanks. -
OK, so I got my T440s. Installed the RAM and SSD (Crucial M500 480GB). Problem is, for some reason, this machine refuses to work with M500's. It'll work fine, then upon rebooting decide (at the BIOS level - posting with diagnostic mode) that the drive doesn't exist. Tried this with an M500 120GB I had lying around, same issue. Put in the stock drive, works fine. Any thoughts? (FWIW, the stock HD works fine. The fact that it has the stock 8.1 install and I'm installing 7 on my SSDs shouldn't matter.)
-
I don't think it's an inherent compatibility issue with the M500; my T440s has worked with my 240GB M500 just fine since day 1, and there are many forum members doing the same. As a quick test, back up one of your SSDs and try loading W8.1 on it to see if it actually makes a difference.
-
Someone in another thread noticed this - but the T440s is almost completely unconfigurable now on the Lenovo page (US at least). Any ideas why that might be?
-
Seems to me like an error on the Lenovo website, all other models (including the sister models T440 and T440p) are still configurable.
-
Confirmed as an LG panel. I'll be contacting lenovo soon about it. Hopefully they can send me a panel to replace it.
-
The only way I can see that changing things at the BIOS level is that I need to use BIOS emulation for W7 (unless I want to tweak the installer to use UEFI), whereas the stock 8.1 install is UEFI based. At any rate, I have an 840 Evo 500GB coming tomorrow, so I'll let you guys know how that goes. Crucial support had some good suggestions (AHCI/IDE, use generic Microsoft drivers, look for quick boot settings in BIOS), but none worked unfortunately.
-
I have an 840 Evo 500GB in mine and it works fine, so you should be ok.
-
Great news, the Evo worked perfectly (w7).
One other question I have - did you guys install the hotkeys integration tool, and is there any way to have that (ex. so the led on the mute key syncs with the system control) without the OSD? (I happen to like 3RVX.)
