ammarr, thank you for the reply! how snappy is T400S when opening many browser windows? If you compare for normal fast CPU. I guess T440s Turbo Boost helps with fast opening the browser windows

I find it to be very fast in day to day usage, including opening many tabs and doing most dev work. The only time I feel it lag is when I am running a couple of debuggers.. server and client side at the same time.

Hi does anyone know how to fix my webcam? When i use it online or with yawcam it shows a grey background with a white webcam image and a line over it, though it still shows up under imaging devices as "integrated camera" and says "this device is functioning properly". I have tried updating drivers, uninstalling then reinstalling, etc but nothing works.

The privacy mode in the Lenovo Settings app might be active. Look it up, in the Settings app in the camera category.

I'm thinking about replacing my trusty X300, should i spring for T450S or wait for skylake ? is it realistic to think that T460S might come this year or am I being ridiculous ?

Game changing CPUs don't come along very often with Sandy Bridge being the last one. I can't imagine Skylake making much of a difference one way or the other. Plus, if you wait, you deny yourself the use of the T450s in the meantime. The T450s looks like a pretty nice machine.

Hi fellow T440 series owners, I had a touchpad related question. My T440p touch has a shiny or polished of orb in the middle and is seen only at an angle with light shining on it. Is this normal in the t440p. Your replies are appreciated.

Somebody else who has a bigger problem: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/t440s-owner´s-thread.734969/page-151 Its not oil as no amount of cleaning is making it better. Minute particles of paint were coming off on the initial week of use. My brothers t440 shows the same wear and previous z400 had the orb in the middle too.

looking for your experiences and comments.

Mine isn't nearly as bad. I do wonder if it's possible to swap on the keyboard/trackpad from the T450 laptops. It could fix a couple problems.

This is wear and tear on the trackpad. Cleaning it will not help as it is caused by the material being worn away from use.

But what about swapping to the new keyboard/trackpad from the 450.

Nobody can answer that without actually trying to do it, but it probably wouldn't work. I'm sure there are plenty of spare parts around to T440s, so why bother? Just buy the exact part you need for the laptop.

I'm more interested to see if we can swap in the new part. I think I'll like the new trackpad even better than what the T440s has now.

Swapping wouldnt solve the wear problem. After a lot of research it seems lenovo put on a rubberized coating on the glass trackpad (might be bcz of apples patent on glass trackpad). The rubberized coating is bound to wear to show the glass pad under. T450, x1 carbon all have this issue.

    Question...

Being ignorant I got myself a t440s with a smart card reader.
Which I have no use for.

But it's taking the place of the 3rd m.2 slot.
One is taken by wifi, the second by my boot drive.

To get the 3rd slot I'll have to order some parts (I need it for my boot drive when I upgrade to 3/4G with the 2nd one).
Found 2 parts, the cable and the m.2 slot itself.

I am wondering what a t440s without smart card reader looks like.
Is there some kind of filling piece?
Or an entirely different base plate? Sounds unlikely.
The idea of the laptop open to the elements when I remove the reader is not appealing to me at all.

    Hello,

Could anyone wih a FHD AUO non touchscreen panel could extract the content of ' HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet'?
I replaced my HD+ TN panel with a FHD AUO B140HAN01.2, but brightness settings is not available!
The product name in the panel EDID seems not to be in the lenovo white-list.
    Thanks

I have a T440s. I am debating on getting a 128 or 256GB SD card and imaging the OS to it. I can't find good tech specs on the SD Card reader. Device manager calls it a 'Realtek PCIE CardReader.' But the internet seems to think this reader is a USB device.
    1. Is it based on USB 2.0 / USB 3.0 / PCIE?
    2. What is the limit to the SD Card readers speed and could it be as fast as an SSD via SATA? (if not, significantly slower?)
    3. Is this a stupid idea or not?

Running the OS from an SD card is a very bad idea. There's a reason for the price difference between a real SSD and an SD card -- it's not just them trying to get more money out of you. SD cards cannot handle the speed and write activity that is required to run an OS. (It's technically possible, but it will be very slow and basically unusable).

My T440s was stolen and I'm gutted. I just can't find something comparable to replace it with (IPS screen, Nvidia graphics, good keyboard, 1.6kg).

I'm thinking of buying second hand, but the only unit I can find with Nvidia graphics only has a HD+ screen. It it possible to make the upgrade to IPS yourself? How easy would it be to get hold of a compatible screen to do the replacement with?

Yes. eBay is probably your best option, though you might want to try the marketplace forum on ThinkPads.com.
