"Considerably faster" is a debatable descriptor. Essentially, it saves about 10% of your time for any CPU-intensive task. Whether the tasks are intensive enough to warrant that boost is up to the buyer.

Thanks everyone for their help. Finally bought it with this config:
Intel Core i5-4300U Processor (3MB Cache, up to 2.90GHz)
Windows 8 64
T440s 14.0 FHD Multitouch WWAN
Intel HD Graphics 4400
4 GB DDR3L - SDRAM 1600MHz Base
Fingerprint Reader, dock
500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
ThinkPad Battery 3 cell Li-Polymer (23.2Whr)
ThinkPad Battery 3 cell Li-Polymer (23.2Whr)
Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260BN with Bluetooth 4.0
Integrated Mobile Broadband upgradable
Estimated total: $1,530.67
Hope I made the right decision and that Lenovo doesn't offer any more discounts on this in the near future. -
Uh, did you apply the doorbusters discount code? That's basically identical to my configuration and I just priced it out last night to see how much it cost now and it was about $1200 (using the Barnes and Noble gold affiliate site for an extra 5% off or so).

Oh I see, yeah I also went with a 3 year warranty. Just wanted to make sure you got the best deal possible especially since they just provided a new deal so some people might not be aware of it.
I just upgraded my RAM to 12GB, using a G Skill Ripjaws model. One thing I noticed is that my RAM is running at 1333mhz when both the soldered module and the one I just installed are capable of 1600mhz. Anyone know why that might be? I guess it's probably not a big deal either way and I don't even know what it said before I installed it. One thing is that the G Skill RAM has tighter timings than the soldered one was showing (also, now programs like CPU-Z are only showing info about the DIMM I just installed and not the soldered one). I suppose if it's now running dual channel that should still be a huge net bandwidth increase but just want to make sure I didn't mess anything up. I guess all things being equal lower clocked RAM should use a little less power so it's not completely bad.
And I don't know if this was just because I was impatient/more confident, but the second time opening it up was way faster and easier. -
Any one order their laptop with Windows 7, or installed their SSD with Windows 7? I hear some people had problems upgrading to 8.1 but was wondering if Windows 7 was smooth and if all drivers were working?
-
I've placed my order and got a confirmation email but I cannot check my order status. Every time I click the link the site crashes. Does this happen to anybody else?
Also, the money didnt get deducted. -

my t440s should be arriving in the next few days. got a 240GB Mydigital SSD BP4 coming too. just out of interest, how have people been cloning/migrating their HDD images to SSDs that are smaller?
i know the ppl who got samsung drives probably don't have this issue with their excellent software, but are there any other ways that ppl have found useful? -
Everyone with the 45w power supply seeing any downsides to it vs. the 65w? I am thinking of picking up a second power supply and deciding if I should use the 45w for travel to classes and work and 65w as the primary? Expecting the laptop to come in any day now and wanted to get others opinion on it. I have the i7 processor with SSD if that makes any difference. I am thinking the max power draw, using something like Prime 95, may be right at or just above 45w but that is no where near real world loading.
-
Test somewhere showed that under all circumstances T440s will have enough power supply with 45w(~33w something max), the only difference between them is how fast would battery charge if needed.
Mine is coming but according to picture both look kind of antiqued. Why don't you try slim 65w adapter for Edges? It's very stylish and seems fit T440s too. My friend has one and I really like his charger. -

FYI,
The non touch FHD screen on my T440s is pretty fantastic. FINALLY, Lenovo addresses the 14" market. Can't wait for the next generation Xn Carbon.
Cheers,

Really happy with the machine so far. Pulling the bottom case is nerve racking but it pops back together easy enough. -
I agree. The more I use this machine the more I like it.
Having some trouble with Lenovo tech support, but the reality is I can't think of another machine on the market that hits all the buttons that this one does - great screen, good port options, good battery life, docking station, serviceability and on-site support, etc.
Just got one of the 6-cell batteries so I'll be interested to see what kind of battery life this will give me and if I feel like carrying it around all the time or not. -

Any Canadians who ordered the T440s this week? I'm still not able to see my order status, the website crashes everytime. Anyone else have the same problem?
-
Myself along with my colleague ordered yesterday. We can see our order status on the website without any problems. The status shows "released to manufacturing" with an estimated ship date of 4th December,

Has anyone notice the problem with dragging your windows to the top of the screen and having it snapped incorrectly? I notice this on my T440s and my brother new L440. I ended up just getting use to double clicking the top of the window to maximize anyways.

My T440s arrived yesterday. I love the FHD non-touch screen but initially *hated* the touch-pad trackpoint buttons. My touch-pad arrived jammed and I had to press very hard on it to 'free' it.
I'm only just now starting to warm to to the buttons. I'm a big trackpoint fan and I'm still finding myself hitting the wrong part of the touch-pad for left and right click. It just doesn't feel ergonomically natural.
It's a bit of a weird experience for me - I'm one of the biggest Thinkpad advocates ever but this is the first one I've owned that I haven't instantly felt at home with. I'm sure I'll come round but it's reinforced my suspicion that it's one step forward in some areas and one step back in others with the xx40 range. -

Do the Lenovo mouse drivers still have support for changing the middle mouse button functionality? You used to be able to select between "scroll", "magnify", and "neither". Somebody has told me the option is no longer there and is stuck on "scroll". Is this the case?

Hello,
For those of you considering ordering the t440s with Windows 7, you might want to reconsider that decision. The image I have continues to corrupt the Samsung Series 840 Pro SSD I have. I basically gave up trying to isolate the issue. Instead, I installed Windows 8.1 Pro and there is a massive difference. The Windows 8.1 install was from scratch and is light years faster and more reliable than the Windows 7 Lenovo factory image. All of the drivers are now on either Windows update or support.lenovo.com. I had no issues resolving the device driver issues.
The T440s rocks. Next to my big iron W530, W520, and T420, this machine is extremely nice. Looking forward to a long life with this baby.

I have a small problem when using the touchpad in Chrome. I checked the Synaptics configuration but still having an issue with the "Forward" and "Back" gestures (using 3 fingers). It seems to be reversed so when I slide my fingers to the right the browser goes back instead of forward. I also can't install the "fancy" power management system but I guess the drivers for the OS I'm using haven't been released yet, right?
I'm using Windows 8.1 PRO (fresh install) and used Windows 7 for a few weeks. I agree with Thor, 8.1 is SO much faster. I couldn't believe when the "Log-in" screen appeared after 3 seconds for the first time and the installation of new software doesn't seem to slow it down which is great!
Thanks -

Lenovo has released a new UEFI-BIOS for the T440s: BIOS Update Bootable CD for Windows 8.1 (64-bit), 8 (64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad T440, T440s
-
Regarding the Samsung SSD issues, how have they manifested themselves? Does it just not boot or do you lose data? I did a clean install so I hope I don't have any issues. I know that for SSDs there's some stuff about sectors and alignment which might not be handled properly if you image a hard drive. Maybe that's the issue? -
Planning to buy a HGST Travelstar 7K hard disk. Did anyone checked this configuration?
PS: and yes, I'll probably add an m.2 MyDigitalSSD unit too. -
The BIOS update is really nice, since (as noted in the change notes) FN + 4 now works as a sleep-button, a function missing before.

The UK Lenovo site has a pretty unhelpful order status system. I placed an order on the 14th and all the status page has said since then is "Order in progress" (with no time estimates), right up until yesterday evening, when I got a shipping dispatch email out of the blue.
I have been following the T440s threads since they were first created in July, waiting with anticipation, so hopefully not much longer to wait now
Specs:
- i5 4300U
- FHD
- GeForce GT 730M
- Win8 Pro
- 500GB HDD (will upgrade to SSD myself)
- 4GB (will upgrade myself)
- AC wireless
- UK backlit keyboard -

I got my T440s in yesterday and have been having fun with it sense. I have a i7, 256 SSD, Intel AC WiFi, FHD (Non-Touch) computer and so far so good. I have not had a ultra-book nor played with one for extended periods of time but this exactly what I needed size/weight wise to go between classes, work, and home with. Windows 8.1 is taking some time to get use to but think it will take some time to take hold, only issue will be using Windows 7 at work all day as well as my other primary computer being Win7. Systems is pretty fast, thought there are some hangups every now and then but only during typical things. I updated all the drivers and BIOS before upgrading to 8.1. Removed some of the Lenovo software that I was not going to be needing. Just need to find a decent Bluetooth mouse as even the little Logitech dongle seems big on this laptop now, thinking of getting the Lenovo BT mouse. I guess it is not considered a true "ultra-book" as the Intel branding is not on the plam rest, unless Lenovo just does not put that sticker on it. But, all in all I am pretty happy with the purchase.
