Also got a shipment notification yesterday for the exact same config (except for the ram, took 8 gb). Like you I just had the order confirmation until then. I assume all european countries are in the same boat.
Can't wait to fight with the base cover for the SSD upgrade.

This is right. This option was removed since one year now, scroll is the only option.

I just noticed the option is also no longer available on the x230 that was recently updated to Windows 8 when I gave it away. It was available in Windows 7 I think. Is it possible this option is available in Windows 7 drivers for t440s?

Do you guys know if it is possible to have the T440s with 500 GB HD and a mSATA SSD? if yes, what model do you recommend ?

Welp. Guess who cracked the thin piece of plastic between the battery bay and the dock connector while trying to wedge up the bottom tray to replace his HDD with an SSD.

    That's right, it's me!

Thankfully it was a clean snap and it fits together really well and doesn't leave any jaggies. And it's entirely cosmetic. The downside is that now it'll drive me absolutely insane knowing I have a crack in my not-two-day-old laptop. I wonder if Lenovo would sell me a replacement bottom cover :(

Sorry to hear that. The more and more I read about the same happening to people (cracking parts) I am glad I got the laptop specs as I wanted them. Good and bad that the bottom is so securely held I guess.

How does the bottom case looks like if you choose the graphics option. Is there just no dock connector and a Flat design (all alloy/mg) or a dock Connecter which wont work.

There is no dock connector in these models (the base cover has no opening for the connector). Here's a picture:

You can see that it's the dGPU version because it has a second heat pipe.

Has anyone managed to install the software for power management for Windows 8.1 PRO? What I mean is an application which did a great job when trying to quickly change different energy schemas, chaning the cpu-performance, turbo option, flight mode etc. I had it under Windows 7 bit since I've installed Win 8.1 I can't install/use/find it ...

    Thanks!

No, definitly not. The whites are very bright and white. No brownish tone.

Here is a picture. Very natural white (and not even on full brightness):

Thanks, good to hear. In that case the problem is either multitouch specific or maybe they have defective screens.

(note that the pixel matrix is not that visible, its just on the camera)
I would hope so, because I think the Lenovo regular panels have horrific screens with the so called screen door effect.

EDIT: I just noticed the page you have displayed on your screen. Your too funny!

I'm planning to buy 4300u with win 7pro 64, FHD, 4GB RAM, Intel Wifi 7160 AC and 1 TB 5400 RPM disk. Need advice on the following:
    1) Which SSD to purchase for the expansion slot? Would like to move the OS from HD to SSD.. What is a good method?
    2) Need a memory upgrade too. Is the 8 GB max that I can purchase or are there bigger module sizes (eg 12 or 16GB)?
    3) Is opening the bottom plate difficult or it just requires patience?

Thanks for your help in advance!!!

Opening the bottom plate isn't difficult, but you have to undo the latches in a certain order or you'll be struggling to remove it and risk snapping some of the more fragile plastic like I did. You'll likely need a thin flat surface, ideally wider than a flathead screwdriver to pry up with. I used my fingernails but I regretted everything about what I did yesterday so I'm probably not the best judge ;)

12GB is the maximum that you can put into the laptop, 4 being soldered in, so you are stuck buying a 1x8gb DDR3 module.

Any 2.5" SATA SSD will fit just fine. You need to remove the drive that is there, don't be afraid to separate the black plastic from the HDD forcefully (I mean forcefully within reason) -- it's just connected by four plastic nibs that pop right out -- you'll see what I mean when you do the job.

As far as transferring data over, I'm a firm believer that if you're just doing the job from scratch on a brand new laptop then don't bother backing anything up and just restore your laptop from the included media. If you want to do a drive cloning, that's kind of beyond my knowledge but I'm sure someone else can advise :)

    Also:

Anyone who uses the three finger swipe to go back/forward in your browser's history. Do you notice that the back/forward behaviour is reversed? I have to swipe RIGHT to go BACK in my history! There's no box to check to reverse the behaviour though :(

Has anyone ordered and used the T440s with the 500 HDD 7200 RPM w/ the 16BB M.2 SSD drive and have any comments?

I want to avoid having to replace the HDD with a SSD drive after reading about the hassles and broken parts.

    Thanks!

I have the 500 7200 + 16 M.2 and it's passable but quite frankly it's still no replacement for a real SSD. It's fast ENOUGH, I suppose, but if you're like me and you're coming from an SSD system then it's pretty noticeable.

The issue is that the height of the slot is very small. I believe there's only one decent sized SSD that fits this slot (a 128GB drive by MyDigitalSSD). If you open it up you'll see that the slot is actually tiny. For this reason most people are opting to replace the main drive. There was also some concern about whether it can boot from that slot but I think the resolution was that it can, just annoying to do so because your options are limited.

I would definitely get an SSD frankly, I was not happy with the performance out of the box - it was noticeably slow. Might also have to do with the Lenovo bloatware, but once I did a clean install on an SSD my laptop became absurdly fast.

I am not familiar with mini display ports and I am trying to order a T440s. What cable do I need to connect to my external monitors and/or TV's. I don't see a mini display port to HDMi cable in the adapters section of the ordering information. Is mini display port to DVI my only option?

OK, thanks. Seems weird that something so common would not be included in their accessories. Is DVI preferred over HDMI or something?

HDMI is more commonly used in consumer electronics, DVI is more likely to be found on PC monitors and other equipment.

Yes I know. If the picture quality is the same, I don't understand why you wouldn't just get an HDMI cable because it cover all bases (assuming that all your monitors and TV's at least have HDMI, like it is in my case).

Well, DVI supports dual link. HDMI doesn't. That limits the resolution it can support in the pre 1.3 flavors. You need an active dual link adapter that's more expensive though.

It just happens when turn on the computer from a restart or shutdown. Sleep prevents it from happening. I lost everything on the drive and the drive was also encrypted. I had everything backed up to the cloud so it wasn't a problem. I had done a fresh install and everything works much better. Lenovo does a good job providing all the drivers. I had time where other companies would not give everything so you may miss out on the media keys.

Anyone been having inconsistent wifi performance? I keep having issues where I'll be connected but unable to browse the Internet, or even get disconnected multiple times and then be unable to connect at all. Other times it works perfectly. None of my other wifi devices are having this issue so it's probably not my router. One weird thing is that when I installed my RAM I was curious about the M.2 slot so I looked at it, then I saw the wifi adapter next to it and there were 2 cables on top of the card but not connected to anything. I moved them a little to see if they were connected and they were not. But I'm wondering if maybe that was supposed to be connected somehow? Or is I just for if you install a WWAN card? I figured if them not being connected was a problem it should just never work, right?

I have a AC card as well and have had some issue every now and then of disconnected or can not connect when my phone and other laptop connects fine, a restart would fix and issue. I have not opened mine up but usually yes the antenna's should be connected unless someone knows this system better. I am hoping I do not have to open the bottom of my laptop up anytime soon. I did download the latest drivers from Intel and have not had the issue yet so that may be something to check out as well if you have not updated them yet.

What is the ETA to get a WWAN card? I would not mind getting 3g on the laptop with some of the sim cards I have laying around that are pay by the month just in case I ever needed to use it.

A restart into Linux fixed it this time for me, pretty strange.

I guess the wires I saw must be for WWAN or else it would not work at all. I really hope this doesn't end up being a hardware issue.

Anyone having problems with clickpad or feels it's hard to hit the right spot for the left/right/middle button, explore the touchpad software and map GESTURES for your clicks. It makes hit-and-miss thing irrelevant, because you can very easily control how many fingers you're clicking with =P

Still waiting for my replacement screen to arrive from China =[

Lenovo might not be selling them but they do exist. There are both Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters (which you then use with a normal HDMI cable) and Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cables which you just plug into your TV. Just look somewhere else like amazon.

Yes the wires are for WWAN. If the laptop is configured as "Wireless Broadband Upgradable", it has everything for that except the WWAN M.2 card (sim slot, antennas).

Hmm. Who has done a memory upgrade to their T440s?

I purchased both Kingston and Mushkin 8GB sticks (DDR3 1600, matches specs given by crucial.com) and when I power the machine on it just shows the original 4096MB (in BIOS) regardless of which stick I try. I was hoping one of these would work but it looks like no go. At this point I think my Thinkpad is probably at fault. Guess it's time to get on the horn with Lenovo? :(

Hmm, no. The part number I'm using is KVR16S11/8. I'm trying to figure out if there's a difference in specs:

    Memory Search | Kingston

If it's just a matter of me buying the wrong RAM I'd like to know what exactly the difference in specs is :(

    edit:

Ohh, DDR3L. Hmm. I wonder if that's the problem. I've just been buying DDR3 which I guess requires more voltage?

I guess I'll try ordering Kingston's certified memory and if that doesn't work then it's time to talk to Lenovo.

Whenever I am building a computer I only use ram that is specified by the memory manufacturer's configurator tool or what is recommended and listed as tested by the motherboard manufacturer, as it avoids a ton of grief.

No doubt. Unfortunately this particular stock wasn't available locally and I thought I matched up the specs well enough, though I obviously didn't. I had a bunch of VMs to build out and 4GB just isn't enough, so I thought I'd save some time by buying local. Guess the joke's on me since I not only wasted my time but energy as well.

I hope this DDR3L will work because I really don't want to have to deal with RMAing a brand new laptop :)

DDR3L uses 1.35V instead of 1.5V so if the laptop supplies the RAM module with lower voltage, it's entirely possible that normal DDR3 will simply not work. I wouldn't trust any compatibility lists provided by RAM manufacturers, especially for such a new laptop. Always compare the specs.

As long as it is 1.35v instead of 1.5 voltage it should work. No reason to not trust the manufactures that detect your system. It would be a huge liability if they were wrong. Just compare specs when you leave their website and go to find similar on AMazon etc.

I have read of others having issues with the 7260AC card and they rolled back the drivers to older versions from device manager but this was some time ago and would think Intel would have the issue solved. Are you connecting to a AC router, I am on N and drops now and then, just click the wifi off/on and it is connected again. I have a new router coming in next week and see if it still does it with that one. Let me know if you find another possible solution.

Does anyone know what plug I would need to play audio and video to an HD tv? This is the same ports/and therefore same plug as those on the T420, T430 and T431s right? There have been some posts about this wondered if anyone had bought one. If it comes down to it I will buy straight from Lenovo.

Thanks guys. I actually went and bought memory from Crucial.com since the Kingston site was directing me to NCIX which didn't have the right memory in stock. I'll report back once I get the memory this week and it's installed.

    hi

will be buying one of these (most likely 4300u, fHD) in Jan and just wanted to ask.

I'll be getting 500GB HDD + 16/24GB caching SSD model, that I'll be swapping out for 240GB Crucial m500. where exactly in the caching SSD located? is there mSATA slot on the mobo? or is it built into the HDD itself?

also, does it accept 9.5mm or 7mm drives? the m500 is 7mm and has got a spacer for 9.5mm.

    thanks

Huh, that's pretty lame. Well, that might explain why it's more reliable under Linux, the driver might be slightly older. It seems like often toggling wifi fixes it for me. My router at my parents' house where I'm at right now is N, but the router in my apartment is G and is a real piece of crap (combined modem/router from the cable company) and my roommates' laptops have all been having issues with it for weeks. That's why I didn't say anything until I came home because now I know that this router is actually good.

I'm probably going to replace the router in my apartment, considering getting an AC router for the hell of it but since probably my laptop is the only one with AC I dunno whether it would actually run at AC speeds. And in any case I wouldn't have anyone else to transfer files to at AC speeds so it'd be a waste. I'm probably going to end up getting the Asus RT-N66U, I think in apartment buildings dual band is pretty important.

To connect the T440s to a HDTV you will need some sort of Mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptor like this one for example.

You will needa mini dispayport to HDMI cable or adapter. Also ensure to change the audio to HDMI (Digital) once it is plugged into have the audio pass through the HDMI cable to the TV also.

Thank you. This is one the I gathered from the forum was the best one. Wish it was black but will probably still order. There is one on Amazon by startech.com that seems to popular also.
