Just receiving shipping email.
Ordered 10/29. Estimated ship date was late Nov, but then got bumped up to 11/7 like everyone else after their order status came back up. Lo and behold today's the 7th and I just got shipping confirmation. I think that's a first that they've ever hit a date![]()

I have no idea
. Do keep in mind that I'm using
TLP
Also please post here or pm me if you find a proper solution to the trackpad. -
does anyone know what kind of actual battery life the t440 and the x240 will get?
-
this is the t440s thread. i doubt there are any owners of those here.
-
i just want a general idea of what battery life the new T series running windows 8 is getting with haswell?
-
i know the t440s gets 6 to 7 with the 3 cell, but as for the others, i couldnt tell you.
-
6-7 hours with the internal 3 cell only? or with both
-
Ugh, now I'm on the fence about ordering a t440s or t440p. t440p seems to be a half a pound heavier, though I have no idea how much it will weigh with the FHD screen and dedicated GPU (which is one of the main selling points to me). I wish I could see both in-person to make comparisons, but I can't even find video on the t440p as it's obviously the least popular of the T440 series.
-
I think it says right on the site. 6-7 with 3 cell and 10-11 with 6 cell from what I recall. Seems to be a little weak on the battery life, only disappointing thing versus the other models. I'll be interested to see how the 6 cell really fits in and how much bulk it adds. I've never been of fan of the bigger batteries but always seem to run them in every Thinkpad I've had just for the extra juice. You should get spoiled with the smaller batteries though...

Anyone know what's going on in this thread with number of responses? The index says that there are 270 pages and 2697 replies, however I can't get beyond page 267 and the last reply seems to be #2661.
-
The thread seems broken.
-
ditto - same problem!
-
I am owner of X230 (X220) an i wanted to go to the X240 but i change my mind and place order for T440
. X240 is IMHO step back from X230. But T440 is smaller lighter than previous T models and with great HD IPS display!!! I order i7-4600U more or less same as i7-3520m in my current x230. Now i use 8G of ram same as T440. For me benefits of T440 are: FHD IPS display, same weight as X230, may be better battery life. Soooo for me it is worth to jum to from X230 -> T440
p.s. i dont like previous T models. Big, heavy and very very bad display.

Darn, my shipment estimate slipped from 11/11 to 11/13 now. Still much much better than 11/25 of course. I think someone else mentioned this happened to them as well?
Overall it seems like a 10-11 day turnaround time to build the laptop including weekends, so really not that bad IMO. For anyone who hasn't ordered and is worried about the initial estimate on the store page, looks like those estimates are very conservative so you shouldn't worry too much! -
Ordered this morning and shipment date is 12/02/13. I wonder what the delay is for?
Edit:
Talked to rep and it is due to parts constraint, he did not know which part was causing the delay. -
Something was mentioned in this thread a while back that I wish I had known when I got my T410s three years ago:
Lenovo is one of the only brands which let you have control over how the battery is charged and discharged. By changing the thresholds to avoid over-charging and over-depleting you can greatly increase the life of the battery. This saves money and is better for the environment. -
yeh i noticed that change yesterday. two days isnt bad though.
-
10 days is what the rep told me is the average for all their laptops unless it is a custom build. He said the T440 would be more likely to have a delay over a T440s IF at all.
My T43 came in 10 days years ago even thought other people had delays and my Edge was processed and delivered in about 8-9 days. Hoping the T440s is the same. -
the price dropped down from the $1,199.00 to $1,189.00 USD
that is $10 cheaper in less than 2 weeks from the initial release -
I ordered on the 5th and my ship date is on the 14th. Also, I am planning on adding a Samsung EVO 940 512Gb, but can someone point me to the exact RAM module that's needed to upgrade? I will add 8Gb.
-
Uh, everyone else here seems to have had their ship date moved up about 10 days a few days after the order, I wouldn't get worried yet.
-
From my initial estimated ship date (11/21/13), it's gone from: 11/21 → 11/07 → 11/11 → 11/14
I kind of wonder what part(s) they're having supply issues with? The distinctive features of my build are: FHD MultiTouch, I7, and wireless AC. Everything else should be nominal. I did order the big battery (68+) separately... they initially estimated shipment at end of November, but quickly turned around and already shipped (and received) it. -
You just need any DDR3L SODIMM module. The L at the end means it runs at 1.35 V instead of 1.5 V. Hope this helps.
For a better fit try for a 1600 MHz module too. -
Thanks, I guess that I'll go with the Kingston selector.
-
I too ordered the I7, FHD multitouch, Intel AC, the rest is standard.
-
Little update on Linux.
Most of my problems can probably be fixed by using another distro.
Both battery work, but hot swapping doesn't on Arch out of the box.
I still haven't figured out a way to disable the trackpad while still having a functional left/middle/right button. It also still ignores my BIOS setting.
And my forum account got deleted for some reason :/ -
What do you mean by "hot swapping doesn't"? Does the machine shut down or do anything stupid if you remove the battery?
-
Ah, it's not that dramatic. It goes back to discharging the internal battery and stays there despite me putting the external back in. A reboot fixes it.
-
Does someone know where to download the legit Windows 8.1 Pro? Since I upgrade my drive I will need it but I dont know where to find it???
-
Download from anywhere. Verify with hash.
-
That's weird. Isn't charging/discharging controlled by the firmware instead of OS? There's some new tricky ACPI stuff now?
-
so i just noticed they got rid of the 256 ssd and are only offering the 128 right now.
i logged in to see the cost of the 1TB platter upgrade, but at $60 for a 5400rpm, its not worth it. i'm gonna take my 500gb and put it in an external USB 3.0 enclosure instead of purchasing a new USB 3.0 drive, so i realized that perhaps i made an error and should have went with 1TB but i guess not as i only want 7200rpm platters anyway.
has it been confirmed we're not getting 8.1? -
I had a 256gb SSD config and that may be the reason for my laptops delay. Tech said there was some part shortage but could not tell me what it was. -
does tp_smapi work on T440s - if so you can force discharge
across multiple batteries (works on my x300) -
No, but acpi_call does. Installed tpacpi-bat along with it.
Side note: Trackpoint + middle click scrolling doesn't work for me in Arch Linux. -
I have the T440s and the machine does NOT come with Windows 8.1. I had to download the 3+ GB update. Upgrading to Windows 8.1 Pro was easy because all you need is just a product key and Windows 8.1.
-
Anybody here have any idea on when T440 will release in Canada?
-
Any comments as to BIOS WLAN card whitelisting on the T440s?
Have a great week, y'all! -
Anyone heard anything about UK release?

Just placed an order for 4200U, FHD, 7620AC. Yes, I'm late to the party! I'm looking forward to having the atrocious December ship date bumped up.
I plan on upgrading to 12 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD. Although I do scientific computational tasks occasionally, I ended up going with the 4200U since upgrading the processor marginally (at Lenovo's prices to boot) seemed antithetical to the whole ultrabook-iness of the T440s. -
The sales rep I was talking to from the Australian website didn't really budge much, so I looked around for a and saw that the rMBP was a good fit and most surprisingly it was much cheaper than the t440s ($1645AUD vs $2100AUD)(i5, retina 13.3/FHD touch 14, 8gb, 256GB ssd),so i went out to get my first mac I never thought I would ever consider getting one but it has been great so far. To any Aussies reading this thread i would definitely recommend also looking at a macbook pro go to a reseller and they will match the price I got from the site MacBook Pro - 15" & 13" MacBook Pro Retina - Apple Store for Education (Australia) (that's the best price).
sorry to go off topic but thanks for the great discussion for the past few months, ill still read for any progression on the lenovo line but for now Good bye lenovonicolaim likes this. -
Just found out t440s will ship with Windows 8.0., and you need to update it yourself to 8.1.....
-
slightly of the topic, but what is the advantage of having a screen which you can lay flat? Other than you could use the t440s laptop as a drinks tray?
-
For years now, when I'm using my ThinkPad with an external monitor and keyboard, I put it on a stand that makes the whole laptop vertical so the lid has to be opened all the way. It elevates the screen which is good for your neck and makes the whole thing take less space on the desk.
-
I use this feature all the time. If you ever lie in bed with your knees up, you can only work when the screen lays flat. I tried to work from bed one time with a MacBook Air and it was so annoying it could not open all the way.
This feature comes super handy in the winter when it's cold outside your bed and you need to send off an important e-mail. -
And now with IPS display even better. -
Does anyone else find it odd that no early review models of the computer seem to have been released to major websites? In spite of the fact that it's now available to the public, the only reviews I'm able to find of the T440s are ibmThinks, that one on notebookreview translated from German, and another on a forum like this. It seems odd, since I'm used to seeing reviews either immediately after a product is released, or shortly before. I'm not calling shenanigans, but it seems odd.
-
yeh i've already mentioned this last week. even notebookreview hasnt reviewed it which is odd.
-
Can you post the links please? I only found the notebookcheck review.
-
Not so much odd as simply annoying IMO. Reviews of laptops seem to have generally become more sporadic in recent years. No idea why, but maybe more attention is now being paid to tablets and phones by the major review sites. Also probably not helping is laptop manufacturers' messed up release schedules this time around. The T440s, for example, is still apparently not available in half the world. In addition to reviews of Lenovo machines, I'm still waiting for decent reviews of Dell's XPS15 and HP's Z-books
T440s up on Lenovo website (IPS Screen, 1080p)
