I was just thinking this is vague.
"there is a risk that your order may not arrive in time for the Holidays.............In the event that we miss the delivery date, Lenovo will apply a 5% credit to your order once it ships."
Does that mean SHIPMENT or receiving? Which holiday Christmas or New Years? If my estimated ship date is Christmas like many of you all, and it ships the 23rdd but I receive it after Christmas (...say Friday) do I still receive the 5% credit? Time will tell.

I just got off the phone a second time with a post sales rep. She advised me the same thing...the base of the laptop is what they are waiting for from their supplier. Also, they are shipping everything expedited to ensure that customers get their orders faster. Another intersting thing I learnt was that the ship date shows as "affirmed" instead of "estimated" on their systems internally. She said that it would most definitely ship on or 2-3 days before the "affirmed" date of 25th December.
I would advice you all to call in and check whether your ship dates are "affirmed" and whether you get the same expedited shipping story as what I did. -
Was there a trick to removing it? I don't want to damage mine.
-
My ship date shows January 10th, however I called in yesterday and they said their system shows a Dec 20th ship date with delivery on December 23rd. I hope they're right.
-
It is not going to take two days to ship it to you. They at least take 4 days or more unless you live in Alaska.
-
You can authorize UPS to release your shipment without a signature.
-
Depends how they ship. UPS Express has a next business day option from China to most urban areas in Canada. Whether or not they ship that way is another question.
-
Here's a tip to anyone considering cancelling your order:
Just wait and get your laptop, if you're still not happy with it then return for a refund.
The hassle and time it takes to cancel is just insane, by the time they process my request I'd have received the laptop, upgraded ram & ssd and played for a while.
Edit: Got it sorted out. -
Eh, it took about 2 days for me once it left China. But after it said "shipped" it spent about 3 days in China before leaving, so if you include that it was 5 days. But if they had the export authorization earlier it could definitely have come in two days.
-
Received my T440s at about 9:30 PST this morning after officially leaving China last night. So basically overnight shipping from China. The label was in process for just 2 days. My dad, who ordered the touch version of the FHD (I had non-touch FHD) will be getting his tomorrow. Our orders were placed basically on Monday morning of 12/9. Not too bad of a turnaround.
First impressions (bug reports, issues, etc) of the laptop will be coming later today / tonight. -
Very random how the shipping is going. It is one thing to be delayed shipping but weird how people who order later are getting theirs sooner. Cheers to you.
To Lenovo...it's weird. -
It is weird. Like a lottery. Seems a few people who ordered in early December are getting their machines faster than those who ordered in late November. Meanwhile, someone who ordered their T440p (same configuration) a day before me has already had it shipped, while my shipping has been delayed until the end of the month. Makes no sense.
Perhaps Lenovo is using multiple assembly facilities, each of which works at a different speed? -
Whoohoo I've finally received my tracking code as well. UPS says: "Departed - Shanghai, China, Friday, 12/20/2013".
Are these computers shipped by boat? -
based on the rate of time they will reach your home, probably canoe i imagine.
-
Finally got a post sales rep that actually had some useful info! Again, the ram shortage was the underlying issue and the Black Friday rush exacerbated it. I live in New Zealand and Lenovo are focusing on the non AU/NZ orders for the time being. The week of Xmas and the first week of January no ANZ orders will ship but after that break we are the priority and our orders should finally ship.
No mention of a 5% discount though... I forgot to ask before hanging up. -

Hey you guys, please start a 't440s late shipping' thread already. This thread is starting to veer off!
-
I wonder what they mean by "in time for the Holidays" for the 5% credit. Strictly before Christmas? Or are they using some loose definition of holidays like before New Year's?
My laptop shipped today, but is not scheduled to be delivered until 12/27, so I will not have it in time for Christmas. Doesn't seem as if they are giving me any specially expedited shipping option either. -
You are right about the thread veering off.

Oh I dunno... this thread seems as good as any to discuss shipping. There are two other T440s threads and one T440p thread, after all
ibmquality likes this. -
Sure. Your machine is i7, 12gb, 256gb right?
To anyone else who will be receiving the shipment in the future, you can either release UPS from requiring signature (I wouldn't suggest it for something this value) or have UPS hold the machine for pickup. I called them to hold it maybe 30min before it would've gone out for delivery which I would've missed. -
Ok, so I finally got a minute to sit down with my new T440s. I'm going to give you my first impressions of the device after having played around with it for n hour (Havent installed new SSD or extra memory yet) Also, Im going to compare this to the HP 840 G1 and the Acer p645 at times as I tried the top of the line models of both of those systems.
Screen - It's very nice display. Not as nice as the HP 840 G1 IPS, which was absolutely brilliant with clean whites and no screen door / sparkle effect. However its better thn the Acer IPS which was pretty lusy. Im noticing some screen door / sparkle effect on the T440s and I'm missing that screen from the HP right now. Colors were gorgeous on that unit and everything just popped. Even viewing angles seemed better on the HP. Its a LEN40A3. There is some backlight bleed int he lower and upper right hand corners, but it was only visible on the Lenovo black start up screens. not a huge issue, but I could see where it could be improved.
Trackpad - Right now, it's a major pain in the rear. granted Im used to using a standard track pad with buttons, but I think there is something wrong with my trackpad, or the software. The darn think freezes up every 30 seconds and its literally all over the place and hard to control. Very annoying and a potential deal breaker. Clicking down on the actual pad to achieve things is not my cup of tea, but I could potentially get used to it. I also don't find the track pad itself is very smooth. Almost like its the same cheap plastic of the palm rest. HP Trackpad and buttons were MUCH better. Acer setup only slightly better.
Keyboard - is a DREAM! Good travel, good tactile feedback. Easy to type. Cant say enough good things about it. Heads and toes better than HP , and makes Acer look like a toy. That said, the HP wasn't horrid to use, and I could get used to it, but keyboard wise T440s is a clear winner.
Overall Build - The whole package feels nice and light and looks clean. I like the all black look and the machine feels solid, without being heavy. Unfortunately, Im also not a big fan of the palm rest. While not as bad as dell, it also feels like Lenovo used some soft touch plastic type material and it feels kind of rough... not as smooth of an experience as I was expecting. The HP had a better palm rest but the edge of it bothered me to an extent. Overall, I have to say the HP felt like it had a better quality build to it AND it had a more easily accessible base for components, allowed for 16MB Ram and Dedicated GPU.
Final thoughts - I'm totally up in the air again. I LOVE the T440s keyboard, but I feel like Im compromising on almost everything else vs the HP (Screen, Trackpad, Performance, Ease of Upgrade, Palm rest, build quality.) That said though, I'm going to be using this laptop to write (when it's not docked) and right now this keyboard is hard to beat (the price was significantly cheaper than HP too)
Im probably going to try and spend another day or so with it before making a decision, but I do need to make up my mind soon. I was debating the e7440 but the palm rest is going to be even worse on that one and the screen may not be the best either.
Someone want to talk me into staying with T440s? HAHA... looking forward to other's thoughts too. -
Thanks for the review HKINGS, but this is the third topic on which you post the same content.

My apologies... i'ven been posting in 3 forums with different folks, so just making sure all saw it.

Got this lovely email from Lenovo:
-
yes, me too; at least they are standing behind the 5% offer
-
I just got my 5th order delay notice. This one states it will not be arriving in time for Christmas. I guess Google Analytics told them what my religion is. This time they didn't even come up with a new lottery ball selected postponement ship date.
-
same here, my estimate delivery time is Jan 3, I ordered mine on 11/30
it is exactly taking them 1 months to ship this machine ;(
the 5% compare to the amount of time we have waited is nothing, when I ordered I was told I will get it before Christmas
if Lenovo can not deliver this product before Christmas, they should stop advertising that it will. It is false advertising -
Well yesterday (Friday), I got the email saying:
Despite our best efforts, we regret to inform you that your order will not arrive in time for Christmas. We take our commitments very seriously and are truly sorry that we are unable to deliver your order in time for the Holidays. As soon as your product ships, we will process a 5% credit to your order.
However, Saturday at 3am I got an email stating that my order has shipped. And I have a UPS My choice account which says that the laptop will arrive by 12pm TUesday December 24th!!. I have a couple issues. Call for a redirect or take my chances and have it held.
I am not at my shipping address and I won't be until January 2nd or 3rd. I know I can have the laptop held by for 7 business days at which would be great if the laptop arrives after Christmas it would be right on time for me to pick it up January 3rd before it gets returned to Lenovo. However, I was prepared to called Lenovo and change my shipping address to have it redirected to my current (parent's) address but I am wondering if that would cause a delay and then it would also arrive after Christmas. Currently the only the label has been made. However, many buyers on this forum have said that Lenovo is doing a next day expedited shipping. So it arrives in USA by Monday and at my door Tuesday. But if UPS slips up or realistically is just overwhelmed and it does not make it by Tuesday then I would be eligible for the 5%. Not sure what to do. Called and have it redirected or let it go to my shipping and have it held at a UPS facility. Clearly, I don't need the laptop by Christmas but because of the email last night this was unexpected. I assumed my shipping date was going to be Christmas as it was stated. -
Hey everyone back with another quick question. Can anyone comment on how the HD display on the T440s compares to the Yoga or other machines? I returned the Yoga because the screen felt really off to me. For one thing the colors were strange, almost really contrasty or something compared to other computers I have. Wasn't a brightness issue just was like it had really low contrast. The main issue though was it almost felt like the actual display had layers of glass or something in front of it. For example if I use my Mac, or an iPad, or Acer S7-392, X230 etc, the image on the screen literally seems to be right up against the screen. With the Yoga I found that it was almost like there was the LCD panel, plus an extra layer of glass, plus the matte coating or something. Not sure if that makes sense, it just felt like the actual image was behind more layers of glass etc than a normal machine. I found it messed with my eyes and gave me headaches so I returned it. So that's why I'm so nervous about the T440s, I'd def get the non touch version not sure if that helps, but does what I'm saying make sense? Thanks!

I gave up on Lenovo and went out and bought a Dell XPS 12 for $1199 from futureshop (regular for $1299 but negotiated the price down). Core i7-4500U/8GB RAM/128GB mSATA SSD.
Dell XPS 12.5" Touchscreen Ultrabook - Black (Intel Core i7-4500U / 128GB SSD / 8GB RAM / Windows 8) : Ultrabooks - Future Shop
Going to call in and cancel the Lenovo order on Monday.
-
Sorry this isn't necessarily relevant to the T440s specifically, but there's this black thing on the bottom right of my screen which annoys me a lot. Did this happen to anyone? How can I fix it?
-
Your image appears to be broken. This works for me:
This is an icon indicating that NumLock is enabled. You say it may not be relevant to T440s so what laptop do you have? Do you have a NumLock key? (T440s doesn't) Have you been using an external keyboard that has it? Try pressing it.
Either way, the icon should appear only when you press the key and go away after couple of seconds. If it does not, you may want to re-install the HotKey Features Integration package which is what shows these icons (this, CapsLock icon, mic mute icon, etc.). -
It has happened! My order finally shipped this morning. Although it just says that the label has been created...but they did use worldwide expedited shipping. Lets see when it arrives.
-
My order is now shipped and tracking!!
Supposed to be delivered this Friday (Dec. 27); I hope they will
remember the 5% disount without me reminding them
-
I would say next week Tuesday or wed due to the holidays.
-
Got mine just today (4200, 8GB, 256SSD (Samsung Pro model), FHD Touch) and played around with it for several hours.
- Screen: some light bleed on the right edge and on the left edge some smaller parts. Some lesser bleed occurring around the edges . Overall this was expected to happen and so far in day to day use it doesn't bother me. The color reproduction is good as far as I can tell comparing it with my Samsung 215TW monitor (S-PVA panel, 8 bit). The reflection is quite minimal because of the anti-reflective coating, but i tested all of this in door without much sunlight.
- Construction: I noticed when the fan is set on a particular speed it makes a light noise like it touches something in the housing. Other than that, construction is simply great.
- Touchpad: works just wonderful, no complaint here. The trackpoint without dedicated buttons is a bit less useable than in previous Thinkpad models, that's a clear negative if you rely on using this a lot.
- Keyboard: I like the chiclet style design. At the office I use the T520 and the keyboard is about comparable with this model imo.
Overall very satisfied, solid build, looks good, small package for a 14" laptop and not too heavy. -
Still waiting on mine.
1) Had to ask for a redirect from UPS via LEnovo. LEnovo has allegedly sent it but UPS has not updated it. Sent it in Monday morning new address has not even been updated yet.
2) I did not get the 5% credit as promised via email. It says 5% would be applied at invoice not post invoice/credit. So not sure about what to do. UPS needs to hurry up and update my new address if Lenovo successfully sent it in. -
This is what was in the email from Lenovo:
I would assume that they would post a separate credit to your account (credit card, bank account etc). This would show as a separate credit and not a deduction from the original charge. Again, I am just assuming based on the wording of the email. -
Thanks. But my product has already shipped two business days ago. Only one charge by Lenovo on the statement.

Well, I was waiting for the 6th delay notice from Lenovo but the shipping ticket was just generated seconds ago and I should get my T440s next week. Hopefully I don't get the inferior LG display or any of the other many problems, but with my luck.....
-
Hey guys, what kinda price match are we talking about here ? Did you just call in and ask for faster shipment ?
-
I wonder what monitor you have, AUO or LG, and whether you have similar monitor issues mentioned by some folks here. Thanks.
-
Me hoping the same. But it's hard to say. We might just end up getting the LG monitors that some folks had replaced out...
-
Yeah, not even looking forward to getting it any more. If I have to get the monitor replaced, the nearest repair depot is in the next state, and someone mentioned that the AUO screen is backordered anyway. Part of the reason I picked this laptop was based on early reviews, which I am sure was with the in-stock AUO screen at the time, so even though switching to the LG screen is based on their own supply issues, it feels like a bait and switch to me, worse than having the delivery being delayed further instead. Mine is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.
-
So the AUO and LG screens are random?
If I place an order and request it to have the AUO display, would it work or would I need to send it for a replacement later on?
Has anyone tried ordering like this? -
Me too that mine is scheduled to be delivered tmr by 10:30am. Let's see what'll happen next...
-
There is no control over what parts are used. Complaining about the screen is enough to get it replaced after you receive the machine.
As for the AUO being backordered in the US for warranty replacement, I'll find out if that's the case tomorrow. For the first 30min, the screen they installed seemed defective with faint lines running across, so they ordered another one. The lines went away and the screen is fine, but they're supposed to come and redo it tomorrow (which I'll ask them not to). When they receive the parts in the morning, they'll call to make the appointment and I'll know if the part is in stock. -
Holy crap! Ship date moved from January 10 to December 31! Is this even real life? Strangely, shipping time is 9 days rather than 7. Maybe New Years delays things a bit.
