yes you are right the Merc introduced the crumple zone in many top model cars, the first one was actually 1953 in W120 'Ponton', which is very interesting and something that i missed.

Hmmm. Unless my MB knowledge is failing me, I don't think the Pontons has crumple zones. I think the Ponton was just the first to have a full safety cell. I've actually seen a Ponton crash test somewhere. MB did it with live people in the car!

As long as we're off topic, the W126 was the first one made specifically for the offset crash. Always amazes me how long MB had been doing safety innovations, yet it wasn't until 1979 that there was a car designed for the offset crash. Though, in a way MB had been doing offset crashes for a while, just not off offset (doing things like running a car into the side of a bus that is presented at an angle to the front of the car).

    Crumple zone - Wikicars

i haven't looked at it closely, but there were few articles that mentioned Pontons having the crumple zone, and there is few that said Pontons don't have Crumple zone. But just leave at the fact that MB has a great safety track record.

Whilst on the topic of the T410, the creak of the palmrest is usually fixable by placing a few small felt pad or folded paper under the palmrest.

go to a store that sells felt cloth (arts store should have it), then go to a supermarket and get some double sided adhesive tape, recommend the 3M brand.

Make it yourself, cheap and easy. You can make it to any shape or size that your heart desires.
