That's the same email i got on 8/21.

I ordered my T61 on 7/18 with a ship date of 8/20. I just called and confirmed that my order will not ship til mid September.

I really wish i just went with a dell. The purpose of getting a new laptop was for my MBA classes. I already missed out on half of this past semester. Now i'm going to not have it for the first 4 weeks (at least) of this coming up semester.

If i had gone with a dell i'd have had it within 2 weeks of ordering.

Yeah, why don't you cancel your order and go with a dell. You'll have a much better laptop in all regards.

well chad, i've had to call Lenovo about 6-7 times regarding all kinds of problems they've screwed up on.

i ordered my laptop a day before yours, yet mine is going to take a full month longer from when you receive yours.

    1. I never make web orders. I deal with the same Inside Sales Specialist who I've never had problems with.

    2. If I needed something fast, I'd look through a topseller model (pre-configured) and order that, you should have that within two weeks.

    I have ALPS

    One stuck pixel (green color)

Already can tell this baby is going to scratch more with the new plastic lid.

It's for sure an LG. Viewing angles are way better.

I've been lurking on this thread for a while, and finally I decided that I'd share my experiences. I ordered the following config on 7/28/07 with an ESD of 8/30:

After reading this thread, I got worried, since I need this system before I leave for school on 9/15. So I've called Lenovo periodically to monitor the status of my order. Of course, they continually assured me that my order was proceeding smoothly, and would ship by the end of the month.

Until yesterday. Their story changed, and the CSR sounded extremely nervous/uncomfortable as he reported to me that there was some kind of "delay," but he couldn't tell me anything about it unless I called back at a later date.

So I called back today. I asked for my order status, waited the obligatory 1 minute, and the CSR came back and reported, "Your ESD is 8/30." I told him I know this, but I was told that there might be a delay. So he put me on hold for ~5 minutes, and when he came back, sounded extremely nervous/uncomfortable when he told me that there is indeed a delay, mumbled something about the screen, but told me that he won't have any details for the new few days. He assured me that my order was escalated "to the highest authority," and that the delay should not take longer than a few days.

The highest authority? He must mean God, right? If God created the world in 7 days, it can't take him that long to create a laptop. Whew, looks like I'll be ok then.

    Alright, a quick 1st impression:

    Monitor Type : LP154W02-TL06 - 15 inches
    Hard Disk : ST910021AS (100 GB)

42T0423 again is LG like everybody else. LG wins hands down with much better viewing angles and no grainy/pixelated screen. About 20 percent brighter which will be handy when I'm outside or near windows. I turned it down to about 75% indoors and comparing it to the Samsung WSXGA+ would be maxed out.

Segate Momentus 7200.1 is much quiter than my Z61m's Hitachi Travelstar 5k100

Left and Right palm rests are slightly warm.

    No Creaks anywhere.

Still a stuck pixel in the left-center of the screen. I will work on that later.

Will install a fresh copy of XP, Vista, and Ubuntu later...

Fan is quiet, very comparable to my T60 15.4

Keyboard is solid once again (ALPS)

    I'm loving it.

    EDIT:

I did get a copper heatsink

I will compare to a T60 later regarding thickness

Here are some pictures comparing a Z61m:

Here’s my review of T61 (15.4 NV140 pre config model 6460-66u) with another laptop that I currently own Dell Latitude D620 (I should be comparing T61 15.4 to D830, but I don’t own D830… ;) I have the LG screen with Chicony keyboard. I don’t see any glaring dead/stuck pixel or the sparkle problem that some people describe seeing on the Samsung screen. Screen is brighter than D620, there is no wow this screen is awesome feeling, but definitely adequate. Chicony keyboard feels ok, it has a long stroke, harder resistance in the beginning of stroke, smooth in the middle and abrupt bang at the end as though there is no cushion, overall slightly better than Dell D620. As for key placement ctrl and fn is reversed, I prefer ctrl key at the left most bottom key. I do appreciate the browser forward and back keys above the arrow keys. Build quality wise it looks tight, but prone to some flexing when I push down on the palm rest and side of the keyboard with my finger. In this regard Dell D620 feels much tougher, but of course this does not mean D620 has better protection. T61 has the internal roll cage that protects the internals and outer plastic is more like a skin. I understand that with the internal roll cage there is no need to make the palm rest resistant to flexing, but it sure will feel better to the user if the palm rest didn’t flex. Also the shiny plastic on the palm rest looks and feels really cheap, maybe a little more matt black might look more up scale? Or in fact use aluminum for the extra special feel! Back side of the screen is extremely tough, I pushed with my finger with a pretty good force with no flex and no ripples on the screen. Here are some other random thoughts… Laptop gets warm under the chipset/GPU area and also around the memory location, not much so around CPU nor HD. Added 2 more gigs for a total of 3gigs of RAM, adding it was a slight pain having to take off the palm rest. I am currently using it in the office with lots of ambient noise, can’t comment on the quietness. After extended typing, my palm gets sticky to the palm rest from my sweat or something, I didn’t notice this on the D620, this might be due to the different texture or the quality plastic or maybe D620 is magnesium? It came with Vista business and when I booted up it loaded 90 processes! Damn, no wonder everyone wants to do a clean install of Vista or just go back to XP. Overall I like the T61 more than the D620, but it does lack the special aura of the previous Thinkpad A21p that I owned.

I got the Samsung LCD and ALPS keyboard on my T61.

The Samsung LCD screen is alright. It is not horrible, but it is not the best screen I have seen. I have mixed feeling about the Samsung. Viewing angles are okay, but not as good as a higher quality 24" LCD. I like the colors on my 24" LCD better, but that is already a given. The Samsung has a slight blue tint to it. The brightness is okay on the Samsung. If you like the screen to blind your eyes, this Samsung is not your screen. There is some backlight bleeding at the bottom of the screen, but it is not that bad IMHO.

I really like the ALPS keyboard. It feels firm to the touch but is not too stiff. The CHICONY definitely feels stiffer than the ALPS.

In summary, the Samsung LCD is good, but not the best screen ever. The ALPS keyboard is very good.

The screen is very bright, though not very aparrent in the pictures. I have a dv9000t as well, and that resolution is 1440x900 and is brighter, but not by a HUGE margin. I was a bit worried about the T61 screen, but it turned out to be very good.

Congrats to chadwick and sfgiants on receiving their T61. 1 stuck pixel on an LG screen is probably better than getting a Samsung with no stuck pixels (like mine ;)).

sfgiants, did you get a LG or Samsung for your LCD screen? Also, did you get an ALPS, CHICONY, or NMB keyboard?

My ESD was delayed AGAIN today.
I placed my order on 07/30 and now my ESD is 09/27 --- 2 freaking months for a laptop with nothing fancy really.

    I don't think that I have been so upset/frustrated with a supplier!

I've been told that I am on the critical build list, well let me take a big laught at this one, ridiculous.

People in that past have said best to worst is NMB - Alps - Chicony. However, I've heard that they are all better than any other keyboard offered by other laptop brands. It's really just a personal preference. I've heard people say they like the Chicony better than NMB.

I have the Alps. I am very pleased with it.

I took another picture to compare the keyboards. The Chicony is sturdier than ALPS. I'm using NMB, though most people wouldn't feel the difference anyway.
