Yes, they did pull it. However, it still seems to be available through their education portal...I would give you the link..but I don't know what it is

an update on the dead pixel issue. Turns out it was a speck of dirt on the screen!! I sprayed on the screen lightly with a can of air and no more dead pixel. LOL oh and i did compare my R51 IPS screen with my T61 LG and the LG is DEFINITELY brighter.
-
What about viewing angles. I know IPS are the best, but how does the LG compare?
-
Received mine yesterday, ordered on 8/14. So far so good. I have the LG screen and Chicony keyboard. Will report back with longer report later.

WOW hunts4--bargin got the best of the best. An LG screen and NMB keyboard. How do you like it hunts4--bargin?

Anyways...it looks like my wireless card and embedded security chip is fried. I'm probably going to end up sending it back and ordering a new one. It can't get any worse than samsung/chicony and a non working security chip..and the dudes at the factory forgetting to stick a wireless card in my comp(so it seems as of now)...if anything..perhaps my new order will be better.... -
I am very happy to report that the screen font is no where near too small, and this screen although not as bright as the Sony, is very good. As compared to the R61: Not even in the same league- The WXGA has screen door effect, looks grainy and this LCD has great color, smooth edges and NO stuck pixels!
The Keyboard has the blue spongy looking things under the keys, really like the feel of it. Slapped in 2 GB's memory in about 3 min and was on my way. I also got 2 extra years warranty w/ thinkpad protection for free! Also got 2 day at no charge verses the free ground I picked!!
After all the moaning and groaning, I couldn't be happier! Let me know if you guys need any addional info-
Glossy LCD in T61:
Same part #:
NEW LP154W02 WSXGA+ GLOSSY DELL 6400 E1505 LCD
BRAND NEW FROM MANUFACTURER 15.4" GLOSSY LCD SCREEN -
My R51 has the NMB keyboard as well and I must admit I do prefer typing on that mainly because it's quiet, but the one on my new T61, although is a bit loud but then it's very responsive. Hunts, I got the (free) three year warranty as well as express shipped to me so I don't know maybe Lenovo is in a good mood or what but I read somewhere above that the three year warranty will not show up after sometime as the system will correct/update it. Hope it stays this way.
-
The Lenovo website states the warranty is 1 year labor, 3 years parts. Nothing less then that will suffice. (printed out just in case)
The LCD in my T61 also comes on a Dell (same Part #) but Glossy...see previous post...do you think it would fit? -
What the hell would you want to put a glossy screen on it for? If you wanted a glossy screen, the T61/p should have been the last place to look.
Heck, just give me your laptop and go buy a dell.
-
-
I don't get why you're at all curious about it? Who cares? I will tell you this though, a review tried to take out the screen and they found they couldn't without breaking glue joints so even if it did fit, you shouldn't replace it yourself. EVEN if you did have it replaced by a third party... the question is just far out, and pointless.
-
-
Would you buy/install a part made by Whirlpool that's really same thing as what you need for your Kitchenaid appliance, but at a lower price? -
I think he's just thinking far into the future when is screen may crap out while its not under warranty anymore -
YES asking whether a part that is not user replaceable is interchangable is far out and pointless. Even if your screen died after 3 years, your laptop will have degraded so much in value that buying a new screen and having it professionally installed would be a waste of money. That is assuming you can even find someone besides Lenovo/IBM to professionally install the screen for you. Lenovo/IBM sure isn't going to install some random screen you got for it. I assume you have an old dell or something lying around that you're wondering whether you can swap the screen on if it gets defective. But the thing is the screen is NOT USER REPLACEABLE. You can be idiot and try but I guarantee you'll make an absolute mess of it unless you have a lot of experience.

-
I had an argument written out but lol I simply don't have the will to argue any longer. I really don't care. I don't know. Be sure to send a picture of your half-ass replacement job when/if ever your LCD dies lol. I'm going to bed. Whatever. By the way take this somewhere else, it's off topic in this thread.
Oh by the way, you're totally right, it makes perfect sense to pull a glossy screen from a dell and stick it on a Thinkpad if/when the LCD ever dies... in 3 years and then on top of that try to replace it yourself even though it's hard glued to the lid and shouldn't be replaced by the user in the first place. PERFECT SENSE. I couldn't agree more. It's a valuable question which I think forum members should pay more attention to. -
I thought this was funny:
LOUISVILLE,

08/22/2007 1:51 A.M. ARRIVAL SCAN
My package arrived in Louisville and now is in transit to Louisville. Makes perfect sense. -
Funny, I find thread after thread of people asking the very same question regarding swapping LCD's. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=75452&highlight=replace+lcd It seems to be a popular area of interest to the forum members, sorry you feel as though we are "idiots" for simply asking about whether a different LCD might work in another laptop, a very "Playmaker"-ish attack if I might say..
BTW, the LCD in my T61 is no where to found on Lenovo's site. It appears that Dell has been using this LCD screen for some time..(results from Google search.) Maybe they changed something, had to use different LCD due to supply issues? But then again, asking whether or not this is the same lcd is in your opinion ..."pointless". -
ANYWAY... my laptop is here... I need to go pick it up.
-
grr UPS is taking forever this time
-
Congrats to hunts4 for getting an LG screen and a NMB keyboard. Hopefully my notebook will come with at least the LG screen.
It's not the end of world if I don't...I think.
-
Has your's shipped pacman? If so, do you have a FRU for your LCD? When is your ESD if it hasn't?
-
Sweet, it finally cleared customs and will be here TOMORROW!
-
Chadwick, great to hear you got the LG screen. Tell me if it is as good as everyone says it is. -
>> Pacman : can you tel us where you bought yours? My ESD is 9/10 and I can't wait for Lenovo anymore.

I feel like I should make a post about my Samsung LCD. I was really bashing it right after I got it. I still think it leaves much to be desired, BUT I have to admit I made a mistake and made it worse. Lemme explain...
I had been reading about so many people complaining about it not being bright enough. There have been threads talking about going into the BIOS and setting the LCD on "Bright". Well, I took that and ran with it. Right out of the box, I cranked up the brightness using the fn+Home and I cranked up the brightness (in the nVidia control panel) to 100% shortly after booting up the first time. That is a big mistake. It does make your screen brighter, but it totally washes out all of the colors.
I currently have the brightness at max using fn+Home, but I've returned the settings under the nVidia control panel to the default (which is brightness of 50%). Well, I wish the screen was a little brighter now, but the colors are MUCH better. This is definitely more livable. I intend to keep this laptop. Sure I wish I would have ended up with an LG, but it's not so bad that I am going to go through the hassle of ordering multiple laptops until one arrives with an LG display. I really like my T61 so far. It's built very solid. The performance including Vista 64-bit seems vary stable (after the clean install). All of the things I like about the laptop compensate for the LCDs shortcomings.
I apologize if my previous negative feedback might have panicked anyone waiting for their laptop to arrive. -
Unfortunately, I am going to have to go through the return process because I ended up with a lemon (wireless and security chip not working). This time I won't lose sleep if I end up getting the samsung again because I know its not so bad.
So to all those who are getting samsungs...don't worry about it..it's still better than many other notebooks...and I LOVEEE the chicony...I haven't tried out a NMB or alps...but it can't be that much better. It is very responsive and gives amazing feedbacks....don't listen to a few people complaining about it....
those are the people who are used to much, much nicer screens and probably do a lot of photo-editing. I don't so it doesnt bother me one bit. In fact I kind of like the bluish tint..makes the screen look more sharp
also keep in mind that samsung lcd and plasma tv's are the most sought after..even the phones have much nicer screens than motorola, etc.
You are getting a very nice screen. -
-
and I LOVEEE the chicony...I haven't tried out a NMB or alps...but it can't be that much better. It is very responsive and gives amazing feedbacks....don't listen to a few people complaining about it....
I am also loving the Chicony, even more than the NMB thats on my R51, although I do miss the quietness of the NMB. Other than that, this is a great keyboard that actually enables you to type much faster due to it's springiness, as someone said it reminds one of the old IBM PC/XT keyboards. -
). He got his T61 for about $1320 USD with ground shipping. He said their customer service was adequate and helpful although it is a smaller store.
I would search around for different model numbers for preconfigured T61's on the Internet and find a specification that you want and is within your price range (with warranty and such). The 64607EU and 646066U models are good starting points for 15.4" T61 notebooks.
The 64607EU model is like my T61 in my signature but it comes with XP Pro.
There is also a 646066U model that is like my T61 in my signature, except it comes with Vista Business and Intel Turbo Memory.
I do not know how good of a deal you got on your notebook, so you may want to stick with Lenovo directly. I had to pay taxes with my Lenovo order so it was not the best deal exactly. Good luck. -
