Please note that this is only for the WXGA+ screens, according to the T61 Hardware Manual. The WXGA is listed as 185 nits.

Anyway, jjfcpa's review on tp.com pushed me over the edge and I ordered one 10 minutes ago!

It's funny how just 2 days ago people were busy bashing on the T61 for its screen and raving about the Dell. Now after one random person gives a thumbs up for the T61, the Dell crowd suddenly died. What happened to Andrew's opinion about the unremarkable T61 screen? Doesn't it bother anyone that we are getting conflicting reports? Sheesh.

    Johnny 1987,

That was not just one random person, that was the TAbook and the official documentation of T61. I think Andrew compares T61's screen with FlexView
and yes, it is not as brilliant as that.
Please note that, I myself LOVE Thinkpads and will buy a Dell laptop if and only if Lenovo disappoints me very badly. Whenever I want to go for Dell and work a little bit with my not-so-elegant R60, I think to myself, are you OK?

    have fun.

The wonderful FlexView was only available on the 15-inch screens and is a non-issue when it comes to 14-inch Thinkpads. By viewing them side-by-side, which I just did, the 14-inch T60 is noticeably brighter than the T42. If the T-61 is no worse than the T60 (14-inch), that's a good thing, IMHO. Andrew's T61 review, while not overly enthusiastic about the display, wasn't all that negative either.

My best guess is that the T61 and Dell D630 screens will be of similar quality and brightness. Not great, as compared to some others, but acceptable for most users of my ilk.

I was torn between the two (my wife has a Dell D620 and I kinda like it), but I ended up ordering the T61 (because it was cheaper and...well, it's all black all over).

They also take quite a long time to recieve. It's very frustrating finding out you won't be getting your laptop for another 3 weeks especially when I just recieved my advanced mini dock that I bought off ebay. 2 months to get a laptop is unacceptable.

Some people say that it's just a glitch and you'll prob. receive your laptop in 2-3 weeks. We'll see what happens, but good luck! I know, playing the waiting game for 2 months is frustrating.

The screens are the same quality except the T61's screen is off center.
