Follow Up:

The carrying case I ordered with this order is arriving today (2/28). I just got my ship notification for the laptop today (2/28). I hope to see it Monday or Tuesday of next week (3/3 or 3/4). Lenovo's estimated ship times are bogus, looks like with even a tricked out system the actual time to ship is reasonable if not pretty quick. 10 points for Lenovo (and their suppliers) for getting their JIT business model working in sync.

I am seeing a trend of really early ship dates in comparison to estimates. I skimmed through the thread and nothing caught my eye. Just curious if there anyway to check delivery dates online for Canadian customers??? I ordered the laptop in my sig but I was not supplied an estimated ship date in the e-mail provided by Lenovo Canada. Also, the customer number and order number do not fit into the order status check on https://www.directlenovo.com/orderstatus/. I'm assuming the Canadian and American system is different. Any help you can provide would be great!

Doesn't look like there is a way to check order status..unless you call them...according to a rep "there order status site is down"...whatever that means...

*Yawn* I'm so tired... I hope I get it soon, what's the average time for ground UPS shipping? I was going to go for the two day but it seemed excessive at the time (since it's estimated shipping wasn't until the twenty fifth)?

I went ahead and purchased the 4GB SDRAM from Lenovo since my discounted price was not too far off the Crucial price (about $20.00 difference).

Next Steps:

1. Replacing the Hitachi 160Gb 7200rpm drive with a Samsung M6 HM320JI 320GB 5400rpm disk. It was a tough decision between the Samsung and the Western Digital WD3200BEVT 320GB disk, but after reviewing the performance stats at Toms Hardware, I decided on the Samsung. It isn't first in all the benchmarks, but I found it to outperform the WD and the 7200rpm Hitachi drive in the benchmarks that mattered to me. I'll use the Hitachi drive in the Ultrabay, as needed.

2. Perform the Vista Clean Install Guide procedures found in this forum after making Recovery Disks. I plan to virtualize the Vista image shipped to me and run it under VMware Workstation.

3. Utilizing the new Samsung disk, install OpenSuse 10.3 and VMware Workstation 6 as the new operating environments.

Looking forward to playing with my new toy which replaces a T42P. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

EDIT: Arrived 3/19 Total time from order to arrival - 9 days for 2 systems.

 

I ordered a t61p on 3/12 and they tried to deliver it today 3/18 but i wasnt there to sign for it so they will deliver it tomorrow.

Specs were the following: t9300 chip, sxwga+ panel, 3gb ram, 160gb 7200 hd, vista home premium, intel wireless (not n), 15.4", nvidia 570 graphics. 1 year in home warranty.

total was 1213.00 us dollars which I think is a total bargain for these specs.

 

Ordered a refurb. 3/13, haven't received a purchase confirmation, called them and the guy said he was showing scheduled ship date 3/28.

If you guys are getting your new built to order machines within 10 days at the most, some half that, this seems absurd for an already built system. I'll probably end up calling back soon cause the guy gave me an order number but no customer number which I now realize I need to look up my order. When I do, I will definitely ask for clarity on why it is going to take so long to ship out. There may be a very legitimate reason, but I would like to know nonetheless.

How do you look up the screen before receiving it? i only have customer and order number, not tracking number yet either.

 

Around the same time that you receive your tracking number (~24 hours after shipping), your order status page will be updated to show the serial number of your laptop. You can then plug your machine type and serial number into http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/s...=/partslookup/partsLookup.vm&sitestyle=lenovo to get a detailed list of the hardware that you got.
However, in my case it was 3 - 4 days after shipping before the site had any information about my hardware.
