if i were to cancel my order, what other laptops would have similar build quality/features as a tricked-out t61p? i don't want my order to get continually pushed back like yours. i really need a laptop for school, and spelunking in computer labs all day for half the semester does not sound fun to me.

 

There are only two other laptop that have UWB, the toshiba r400 and the dell Inspiron 1720, if you are talking about other stuff then there are plenty of other laptops out there. Just go to the laptop manufactures website and look at them. But, you will never get the quality of a thinkpad, unless you buy a thinkpad......

Which doesn't make any sense cause don't some of you guys have dates earlier than this who placed your orders after I did? I placed mine on the 11th at 2:19 p.m. I'm getting really pissed off here.

 

Yep I placed my order last tuesday and my ESD is 8/24. There are 3 posibilities here:

1) They plan to get them all out before the middle of august and are just using 4 week intervals for estimated dates to be safe.....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! Sorry, I couldn't say that with a straight face I really tried I swear. Whoo, anyways...
2) None of ours will ship before september and you MIGHT get yours in august. (most likely imo).
3) They sold all the computers and have no idea when the parts are going to come in but they hope that most of us won't cancel and the ones that do will just buy other Lenovos. (Combine with #2 for 100% of the story)

Honestly, they must be stupid to think consumers won't talk to eachother and see the ship dates change. If yours got pushed back a month my guess is all of ours got pushed back a month.

 

This is a real bummer. I suppose the same thing will happen to me. I didn't order a T61P, but I did order the t61 w/nVidia 140M that has UWB. I ordered on 7/12 my ship date is today. I can wait another couple weeks, but I'm gonna be pi$$ed off if it doesn't come fairly soon.

 

Yeah I really need mine by august 16th and the rep told me it should be in by then even though the ESD is so late. I knew he had no real idea and I figured it would be here in september. It really sucks and I REALLY need a laptop for school but I have decided I am willing to pay more and wait longer if it means I get exactly what I want. I have to admit I have been seriously considering getting the X series for the portability (and the ship date) but honestly 12" isn't enough realestate to code on at all.

Unfortunately there is no way to put pressure on a company to ship other than cancel orders and that only gets them to ship to everyone else. :'(

Here is my on going saga.

Called them about my system (ordered 7/11) being bumped out 1 month for ESD. 7/30 to 8/30.

I was told my sales rep entered my order in wrong and that it needs to be reset to get processed. WTF!?* Still trying to get a hold of my salesman to get the order reset.

I was told the system would be put on the critical list, what ever that means, and should ship in 2 weeks. Does not seem to critical to me

UPDATE: So after ordering my system 2 1/2 weeks ago I just had to replace my order. Something happened in manufacturing (something about my config) that stopped the order. And now I am waiting another 2 weeks.

 

It depends on the accessory. My mini-dock arrived within about 5 business days of my order, but the SATA HDD bay adapter that I ordered hasn't shipped and looks like it will come when the laptop comes.

 

Don't worry Jeremy, they just haven't got to delaying our orders yet.

 

Oh, whenever I called about my order, I was transferred to someone who spoke english as their native language and he said mine was probably going to ship on the 15th of august. He was higher up than a rep at a call center, so I'm hoping he's right

Yeah, all the email said was that it will be delayed atleast 1 day and at most 1 month. So what Jim said might just hold true.

That email is probably just an automated email that sends out to everyone that has a shipdate earlier than the current date

 

Yeah, It won't be all that bad, but I kind of wanted it by that weekend. I have a huge project coming up pretty soon that I will need a laptop for. And If it doesn't ship this saturday I will be screwed.

Why didn't you just order it with XP? It's a heck of a lot easier.

T61p Ordered in Canada via phone on July 12 around 12 pm. ESD was July 30. I think my credit card was charged but it might just be a preauth at this point. Spoke to my sales rep on July 27 and she told me to expect it sometime before Aug 3.

Okay, Kebs' Update on T61P.

Ordered 7/11 at 12PM w/ ship date of 7/31

Bumped out to 8/31.

Called in today, 7/31, they put me on the critical list, which of course, at Lenovo, probably means nothing. However, like Jeremy recommended, I asked for a battery to compensate me for my having to wait 1 month + 3 weeks in order to receive my laptop. They lady rep said she will ask her manager about giving me the free battery and that I will get a call back. At Lenovo, that means you have about a 25% chance of being called back, so I'm calling back to verify all that.

If any of you ordered T61P's it'd be a GREAT idea to check with your CSR's to see that the website order didn't screw up your configuration! I have no idea how their order "reset" affects all the TailorMade and FatWallet stuff though. Hopefully it won't affect it. She said she did not have to cancel the order, whatever that means.

ctbear: be careful. that's what I told them to do, then I got part of my order (a backpack) AT MY HOUSE today instead of at my dorm. and this is after the CSR told me that both would get shipped to my dorm.

even though i'm still home right now, my dorm can hold packages for me until i get there... but if my laptop is shipped to my house when i've already left for school, that's a problem. i'm going to call them to make sure that my laptop gets to my dorm.

 

So here is my final out come. My order from 7/11 was canceled and had to order the same system today from scratch. However it was added to the critical list. I was told I should expect it in 2 weeks (I'm holding my breath) Kebs you are lucky your order did not get canceled. I think I have to stay away from these forums until my system arrives or I will go mad. What a great first experience with Lenovo. I would have canceled but I really want this system; I hope it meets my expectations. I was told I might get a $100 concession back from them because of the screw up . . .WOW

Until someone comes out with a competative laptop they'll never go out of business. What are you going to do? Order a Sony? A MacBook? A Dell? I mean seriously, everyone on this forum knows nothing truly compares, and that's why we'll wait as long as it takes...

 

Cory-Make sure you DO get the concession. I just spoke to Lenovo Rep Igor after being routed through to Bangalore on overflow. BTW the techs out there take the calls when Canada's offline, and they can't do ANYthing to your order except give you updates. Punks. So another 30 minute hold and I'm talking to Igor.

Igor told me that a manager has approved my 100.00 discount because of my having to wait 1.5 months. So make sure you put in an ardent request through ANY CSR, it doesn't have to be the one you usually talk to, because heck I left a message yesterday during business hours, and he still hasn't called me back! Keep calling til you get someone.

The base price on my old T61P order was 2160.75.

Happily, that is dropping down to 1957.55 with current pricing.

I poked my sales person yesterday and got a UPS tracking number from her. It is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. My guess is that maybe CTO's take more time than canned models... Then again there isn't a whole lot of canned T61p's to choose from right now in Canada.

I will buy the t61p sometime this year. Do you guys think it will be better to book it after September, when the kids are back to school? I mean would it be any faster, or possibly cheaper?

 

Just spoke to Jonathan @ Lenovo and he mentioned that many of the people waiting for T61ps that were ordered on 7/12 and 7/11 just didn't make the shipment. He thinks they may all be out by the end of the week - but this is just speculation on his part.

Just the first orders on the 11th and 12th, or orders that were also up to a specific date?

 

He made it sound like many of the 7/11 and 7/12 ordered T61p's were built and just didn't make the shipment(I guess all those darn T61's beat us out the door!) and should be shipping this week and next. He did mention that it was just his speculation based on calls, and not anything concrete.

 

Well I have a guarantee of a shipment by saturday, so maybe johnathan is right. I orderd at 2PM EST on the 11th and mine will ship out on the 4th or earlier.

 

I'd be interested in knowing how you got that guarantee. I'm fumed right now at the fact that they STILL haven't figured out that they owe me 10% Anyway, here's to hoping!
