Well I think it's true, Lenovo as of late are putting low end components and charging a premium for them.
-
not power consumption and TPD's that's what I'm looking for.
imo for 749$ it's not so bad. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I actually checked notebookcheck, and basically they have nothing anymoe regarding that, not even rough estimates
-
well the S430 should be much cheaper than the lg xnote p330 right? Also it should be much more available for people not in Korea
-
Of course.. Lenovo pricing for the refresh is weird.. A true ThinkPad (T430s, with TB probably no dGPU) costs roughly $100 more than the S430

I can't wait for this laptop, such awesome specs for the price.
Anyway, what is the body like? Is it more plasticy or is it an aluminum. I can't tell. I know it has the rubberized feel on the lid.
I also hope the i5 comes with the $750 price tag, but I'm giving my hopes up probably. -
Hi There,
Anyone know the release date of ThinkPad s430??
Thanks. -
lenovo says june 2012.
the rest of the ivy bridge lineup is expected in the second week of june, my guess is that's when we see this. -
So Lenovo is waiting for the Ivy bridge (release) to start selling the new S430?
- I can't wait any longer I want it now ! LOL
Anyone know the price? and is this model will have an Illuminated Keyboard?
Thanks Again. -
They've been saying $749 as the base price. That's probably an i3, and no dedicated graphics based on what info we've been given so far.
-
Several reviews have said already that it will have dedicated graphics, check up on youtube or google it...
749 and it will have a light to light the keyboard but no backlit -
AFAIK, they've all been saying that there will be a dedi graphics option which to me means that you have to pay more in order to get it. The $749 base therefore wouldn't include the dedi graphics, no?
-
yes, the more advanced features, the more cost it will be.
-
Alright thanks to all of your guys.
I guess I will have to wait more time.... I hope it get release on the first week of June...
:GEEK: -
2 Models of the Lenovo S430 listed at the first Online Shop in Germany, starting from 880€ (prices changed). Deliverable in arround ~1Week. Hope it's gonna get cheaper
.
Geizhals.at
The more expensive Model is actually the one without discrete graphics but with a better CPU and UMTS/HSDPA.
- Core i7-3520M 2x 2.90GHz
- 8192MB (2x 4096MB) ...
-
Hmm, that's somewhat disappointing. Hopefully there will be a graphics card in the more expensive version, a Kepler one too.
And I always thought the low voltage i7 Ivy was a quad core. Or is this not it? -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
There are 4 TDP limits
17w, 35w, 45w, 55w
there are i7 models in all those TDP limits
17w and 35w use dual core i7 and there is 1 quad in the 35w
35w - 3612qm, 3520m, the first is a quad, and the latter a dual.
17w - the i7 3667u is the dual core 17w tdp
55w - the i7 3920xm is the quad core 55w tdp
45w - are only quads and all are i7 -
Take a good look.
Some CPUs are configurable (the ones with cTDP up/down).

is it just me, or is that quite expensive considering those specs? even discounting for the higher prices we generally face here in euroland...
ive never seen an thinkad in real life though, is it because of the build quality?
maybe someone could enlighten me? -
Thinkpad are professional products they are often used by people who are working a lot with it. Traditional qualitys in Thinkpads are, good keyboards, long battery life, non-glare displays, high material standards.
Yes it is expensive for its specs but especially this laptop has a Thunderbolt port which is hopefully soon, easily to be used in combination with an eGPU.
I don't promise anything, this product has not been tested yet, there is no experience report yet, which is definitely going to change soon. -
THe S430 isnt a T series though, its an edge. Does the s430 still have military specs and spillproof keyboard?
-
Since when ThinkPads are considered having military specs lol.

ah well thats good to know. esecially after my last laptop, build quality will be one of the most important aspects for me.Sensenmännchen;8550625 said:Thinkpad are professional products they are often used by people who are working a lot with it. i wonder how feasable an egpu is going to really be... -
Lenovo ThinkPad Edge S430 gets a Price
old info, but better written -
I'm still hoping that we get a Kepler option or something of the like.
Then again, seeing as I'll be coming from a 310m, I guess even a 630m will be a massive improvement, ahaha. -

It's the battery savings I'm particularly looking at.y2bd said: ↑I'm still hoping that we get a Kepler option or something of the like.

Is this the same chicklet keyboard they use on the upcoming T/W 530?
-
No. It is different. Not the same keys, glossy surface between the keys, not so got, not spill resistant, cheaper constrution etc.Is this the same chicklet keyboard they use on the upcoming T/W 530?Click to expand...

according to the specs its a spill resistant kb, didnt try to compare the layout since the s430 pics that we have is from a sample and not finalized. But I would venture to say that it might be the same.ibmthink said: ↑No. It is different. About S430....
I thought I finally found my new laptop...
When everything became perfect in specs.... they kept the heat vent on the right side... Get ready to experience the heat for FPS games...
Hopefully the heat will be less... Fingers crossed -

I realize that not everyone in this forum lives in North America (I'm in the U.S.) but being an English language forum a good deal do. So I hate to pop a bunch of people's bubble but I found out yesterday the S430 will not be making an appearance in this part of the world. This information comes directly from a PR person at Lenovo who is in charge of drumming up excitement and communicating product releases in North America. Basically they said the North American sales team looked at the product portfolio for the second half of 2012 and couldn't see a fit for the S430, there's already a bunch of other 14-inchers coming. I'd argue it was unique enough to be compelling to a lot of buyers, but that would have depended a lot on price, if over $1,000 I'd agree it could flop here.
Anyway, Europeans are confirmed to get this and I assume Asia as they essentially get everything Lenovo has. Not sure on other regions, I guess you'll just have to check with retailers and see if it's showing up. -
O say it an't so. For once Europeans weren't left out

this is much like the e320 and the e420s that the former didnt even appear and the latter didnt come with the 6630m that it had in most of the world.Andrew said: ↑I realize that not everyone in this forum lives in North America (I'm in the U.S.) but being an English language forum a good deal do. My main issue with this lack of strategy is that here in brazil we wont see the light of the day of any model that doesnt appear in the north american market, much like I didnt see anything from there.
Lenovo is missing a great opportunity here, dell has dominated the notebook market here. And lenovo barely offers their Z line. We dont buy desktops here we buy notebooks.
no you cant. You can try importing from a third party vendor. however I dont know how warranty goes with the edge line.Oats04 said: ↑i dont understand what the problem is, i live in the states, can't i jsut order it from lenovo europe?Click to expand... -
Well first you have to find someone that'll ship and incur that cost. Then you have to get over the sticker shock Europeans pay on electronics compared to here in the U.S.Oats04 said: ↑i dont understand what the problem is, i live in the states, can't i jsut order it from lenovo europe?Click to expand...
Unless of course the Euro zone collapses along with the currency, then you might find some good deals based on currency exchange rates and we can all take our European vacations.
Interesting, I didn't know Dell was so popular in Brazil.Mr MM said: ↑this is much like the e320 and the e420s that the former didnt even appear and the latter didnt come with the 6630m that it had in most of the world.

Another tidbit I found yesterday is that The Edge E530 does come with an HD+ 1600 x 900 screen option in Europe, but not the U.S., it's just 1366 x 768 which is a joke on a 15.6" screen laptop.
[Shakes fist at sales people that decide these things] -
Ahaha, wonder what that says of their opinion on the average American consumer.Andrew said: ↑Another tidbit I found yesterday is that The Edge E530 does come with an HD+ 1600 x 900 screen option in Europe, but not the U.S., it's just 1366 x 768 which is a joke on a 15.6" screen laptop.Click to expand...

so if this s430 is something along the lines of 800 euros, how much would u think i would actually be paying for it if I want it in the U.S. including shipping and everything
-
Sad... That link almost killed me!!! I hate lenovo for this. Dont know why sales team has this stupid notion of avoiding north america. The same happened whin I wanted to buy Dell inspiron 13.3 a year back. Stupid sales team...I think now I've to start my hunt again... May be I'll buy a hp sleekbook with amd 2gb graphics memory... First let them roll out the ivy bridge models.
-
Or I can go with T series...But definitely its gonna be damn costly. And the worst part... they haven't updated their itchy touchpad with a smoother one.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
they are popular because they only charge us 33% more for the base models compared to the US prices, if you go higher (lattitude, precision, xps)the price goes to 100% or more.Andrew said: ↑Interesting, I didn't know Dell was so popular in Brazil.

What I was trying to find out is if I buy this s430 when I go to europe in september, if I would have some form of warranty coverage like I did when I bought my thinkpad in NY. However the lenovo site is a mess and it redirects me to the US warranty pages not mine. terrible.
For example the e420 is being sold for R$ 2k, which means Im paying U$ 1k for a laptop that is being sold for U$500, terrible pricing scheme, while I could buy a vostro 14'' model for R$ 1300 or less, which I just did for my father, payed R$1k for it which equals to U$ 500, and I would have to have grabbed the R$2.2k e420 to match the specs -
serious bummer. Time to start looking at alternatives, though i may just say screw graphics and pick up an x230.
