on the other hand you guys will be getting the Y480 with 650m and we wont

by the way, according to notebookcheck the 630m has two varients. One is a rebranded 540m and one is a rebranded 555m

    thats a pretty big difference.

how can we tell which is which?

the big difference would be on what chip they are using in that 555m, there are 5 variants of that gpu, with greatly varying performance.

The only way to know is gpuz or some other software.

Not to disparage this comment, but has this alleged cancellation been verified by other sources?
Unless I'm misreading the article, I don't think there were any official/unofficial sources cited detailing Lenovo's decision to allegedly drop the S430 from the US market.

For what it's worth, the US Lenovo website still lists the S430 as having a June 2012 release (under "New Products"), and I've "chatted" with Lenovo's online reps who claim that the S430 is still on track for a June 2012 release. So fingers crossed!

emphasis is mine. I trust andrew wouldnt have written the article and made such a big deal about it if he didnt trust the source. Sucks, it really was the perfect compromise laptop in terms of screen/size/weight/power/price.

Hi, yeah I understand that the source may seem vague, but I assure you it's someone I've known at Lenovo for several years now and she's in a senior position and in charge of communicating with media and financial analysts so it's her job to get the story right and disseminate that information. I'll also note I went to a media event in May where they had the upcoming ThinkPads and IdeaPads and the S430 was nowhere to be seen.

It's a company with over 20K employees so there's no doubt you can talk to two different people and get two different stories (or three or four), but I'm 99% sure the info is correct on the S430.

I guess our best hope is there's such thing as the sales team changing their mind later in the year if sales go well in other regions.

Aren't Lenovo warranties international? Hence, can't we in NA just import it?

you are confusing the x1 hybrid with the x1 carbon. And AFAIK it doesnt pack a touchscreen as well, just a dedicated ARM processor for that android build that it runs

So I was looking at Lenovo's website, and in response to this article,
I don't seem to see the same thing (need to click laptops->scroll right->thinkpad s430 -> quick view). I think they might have changed this, at least I hope so for the US.

    Time will tell.

Well if this doesn't end up coming out I'm going to try and hold onto my T61. Hopefully net gen they will finally change the laptop to fit the 16:9 screens and not have a big bezel.

Seems decent for a TN panel, don't expect the spectacular performance of an IPS panel.

For any Australians wondering of it is available or possibly in the future I did a search and came across "shoppingexpress.com.au" it has a S430 on sale for $755

    The specs are as follows:

    14.0" HD+ Antiglare Display
    Intel Core i3 2.3ghz
    Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphics
    4 GB DDR3 1600Mhz (2 DIMM slots)
    500GB HDD
    THUNDERBOLT
    720p Webcam

So that seems to be a low end model with the i3 and HD3000, priced at $755 isn't that bad I guess as you have the thunderbolt port there etc. Not sure about the company selling it, never seen them before.

Hopefully its a sign you can pick it up in Australia from a different retailer pretty soon. I'd say an i7/i5 Ivy with whatever 6xx GPU will cost around $1000

I don't know for sure, but those pictures are from a E430, not the S430. Since you don't know the shop it maybe just a little mistake

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the amount of cells isn't the most important
aspect of the battery, but the real capacity of it.

Saw that only some models will come with ThunderBolt connections. Surely the i7s.

I would do the same thing if the T430S had discrete graphics.

If this thing doesn't come out by July, then I'm jumping ship and getting a MacBook Pro.

It hasn't been advertised at all. But it has it. I can't believe Lenovo didn't even list it as a feature on their site.

Lenovo ThinkPad T430s Unboxing - YouTube

The above video is from a forum user.

The bad part is that you can't have a dedicated graphics card if you pick the i7 w/ Thunderbolt config. If you want a graphics card you must go i5, which means no Thunderbolt.
