Oh, the Intel HD 4000 has a really nice power for an integrated graphics chip: Lenovo ThinkPad X230 Gaming Demo - YouTube

on the other hand you guys will be getting the Y480 with 650m and we wont
by the way, according to notebookcheck the 630m has two varients. One is a rebranded 540m and one is a rebranded 555m
thats a pretty big difference.
how can we tell which is which? -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
the big difference would be on what chip they are using in that 555m, there are 5 variants of that gpu, with greatly varying performance.
The only way to know is gpuz or some other software. -
Not to disparage this comment, but has this alleged cancellation been verified by other sources?
Unless I'm misreading the article, I don't think there were any official/unofficial sources cited detailing Lenovo's decision to allegedly drop the S430 from the US market.
For what it's worth, the US Lenovo website still lists the S430 as having a June 2012 release (under "New Products"), and I've "chatted" with Lenovo's online reps who claim that the S430 is still on track for a June 2012 release. So fingers crossed! -
emphasis is mine. I trust andrew wouldnt have written the article and made such a big deal about it if he didnt trust the source. Sucks, it really was the perfect compromise laptop in terms of screen/size/weight/power/price.
-
Hi, yeah I understand that the source may seem vague, but I assure you it's someone I've known at Lenovo for several years now and she's in a senior position and in charge of communicating with media and financial analysts so it's her job to get the story right and disseminate that information. I'll also note I went to a media event in May where they had the upcoming ThinkPads and IdeaPads and the S430 was nowhere to be seen.
It's a company with over 20K employees so there's no doubt you can talk to two different people and get two different stories (or three or four), but I'm 99% sure the info is correct on the S430.
I guess our best hope is there's such thing as the sales team changing their mind later in the year if sales go well in other regions. -
Aren't Lenovo warranties international? Hence, can't we in NA just import it?
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
there are several kinds of warranty in lenovo, thus my concern regarding that. -
I just posted on the Lenovo FB page about it.
I was totally looking forward to replace my T61 with this! -
Darn, that's very disappointing. This was at the top of my watch-list for laptops like this
-
does X1 also run android? so the screen is multi-touch?
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
you are confusing the x1 hybrid with the x1 carbon. And AFAIK it doesnt pack a touchscreen as well, just a dedicated ARM processor for that android build that it runs -
Any update on the release date? Still planned for tomorrow (June 5)?
-

thats just lovely, thunderbolt working as it should, as a docking station -
Backlight keyboard on this one? does anybody know?
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
it was announced to have it -
Hope it's not over US$1400 down here! (and that the new MacBook Pro 13" is not as hot as its 15" big bro)
-
All the 3rd gen powered laptops are up on lenovo website. S430 --- not yet. But its still there on the new laptops section. Lets wait n see
-
has anyone from the states found a place to buy these yet?
Are they actually out in europe? -
They are out here in Europe:

Available in about 2 weeks. -
Is it really true that it will have only a built-in 4-cell battery?
-
Yes. Thats right.
-
What on a 4-cell battery, it is removable or upgradeable?
-
No, it is sealed.
-
Can I put an additional bigger one in the DVD bay?
-
Nope, thats not possible.
-
So I was looking at Lenovo's website, and in response to this article,
I don't seem to see the same thing (need to click laptops->scroll right->thinkpad s430 -> quick view). I think they might have changed this, at least I hope so for the US.
Time will tell. -
Well if this doesn't end up coming out I'm going to try and hold onto my T61. Hopefully net gen they will finally change the laptop to fit the 16:9 screens and not have a big bezel.
-
Just saw this ThinkPad S430 Hands On - YouTube
I don't know you, but those viewing angles are pretty poor -
Seems decent for a TN panel, don't expect the spectacular performance of an IPS panel.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
aside that it was a demo from CES, I wasnt expecting anything much final in there, and yes its a TN panel -
The Edge S430 is a great laptop! Can't wait!

For any Australians wondering of it is available or possibly in the future I did a search and came across "shoppingexpress.com.au" it has a S430 on sale for $755
The specs are as follows:
14.0" HD+ Antiglare Display
Intel Core i3 2.3ghz
Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphics
4 GB DDR3 1600Mhz (2 DIMM slots)
500GB HDD
THUNDERBOLT
720p Webcam
So that seems to be a low end model with the i3 and HD3000, priced at $755 isn't that bad I guess as you have the thunderbolt port there etc. Not sure about the company selling it, never seen them before.
Hopefully its a sign you can pick it up in Australia from a different retailer pretty soon. I'd say an i7/i5 Ivy with whatever 6xx GPU will cost around $1000

I don't know for sure, but those pictures are from a E430, not the S430. Since you don't know the shop it maybe just a little mistake
-
Noticed that as well but they did mention Thunderbolt in the description. Bit dubious though myself as no other reputable retailer seems to be close to having it.
-
Does anyone knows if it has rubberized finish like the T series does?
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
apparently it does.
-
What I haven't seen or heard is the rough battery life we could get from the laptop. What would you expect from a 4 cell battery?
User guide
Hardware Maintenance Manual -
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the amount of cells isn't the most important
aspect of the battery, but the real capacity of it.
Saw that only some models will come with ThunderBolt connections. Surely the i7s. -
I ordered a T430s instead. i7 with thunderbolt. Saved 25% too!
MasterCard MarketPlace 25% off Lenovos -
I would do the same thing if the T430S had discrete graphics.
If this thing doesn't come out by July, then I'm jumping ship and getting a MacBook Pro. -
How much did that run you?
-
Just another nail in the coffin...This is a direct message from their twitter after I inquired about the situation.
Looks like I'm either going MacBook Pro or T430S
-
I hope it will be out in other countries than just Germany... I would like to buy it but at least with us/international keyboard
In the official support site there is already a driver section for this laptop -
Im wondering, is the S430 CPU soldered or socketed?
-
Well, I guess I'm glad the information I had turns out to be right and has further confirmation, but I don't mean that in an "I told you so" manner because it's not good news of course.
-
Wait, how do you know the Core i7 has ThunderBolt? I wasn't aware of that.
-
It hasn't been advertised at all. But it has it. I can't believe Lenovo didn't even list it as a feature on their site.
Lenovo ThinkPad T430s Unboxing - YouTube
The above video is from a forum user.
The bad part is that you can't have a dedicated graphics card if you pick the i7 w/ Thunderbolt config. If you want a graphics card you must go i5, which means no Thunderbolt. -
Where the hell is this laptop anyway? Shouldn't it be out by now?
