This is an incredible deal for any new thinkpad at this price.
Blows away even the best sub $500 sunday specials. -
This deal lasted exactly 40 minutes after sp00n posted it. Good effort, though.
-
Very good deals across all models can still be had using this link:
(Save 28% on T&X series, 25% on R series, using AMEX)
http://www.americanexpressofferzone...l.aspx?cntry=us&lang=en&issuer=MLMC&oid=43242
Add this at checkout:
USXFAMILY
I configured a barebones R61 for $474 before tax. -
-
I configured the same spec'ed notebook, one with the AMEX link and USXFAMILY and it came to 555, and then did it the normal way with the 10% off and it was 553 - so it was a wash for me.
Seriously thinking about jumping on this one:
ThinkPad R61 - 1 Year Depot Warranty

I was thinking about a nice ultraportable but this might be somewhat acceptable given that it'll be a good 1k less than whatever else I'd get, plus its a Thinkpad as a consolation and still isn't a 15"+ monster.
. -
Lenovo's website sucks so bad, when it isn't so slow I could make a pot of coffee all you get is a blank screen (like now)
-
That's why you need a new ThinkPad. Because the computer you're using now sucks.
-
Awesome deal.
Just canceled my $808 Vostro w/ the 8600m for a R61. Sure I won't be playing Crysis anytime soon, but I saved ~$300, and got a higher res screen. -
wearetheborg Notebook Virtuoso
By higher res u mean wxga+ ?
-
. It says:
To Redeem Online
Click REDEEM and use your American Express Card when making your purchase.
Wouldn't this conflict with FatWallet click?)
-
vostro: 1GB, 120GB, DVDRW, 9 cell, wxga
lenovo: 512MB, 80GB, CDRW, 6 cell, wxga+
RAM amount doesn't matter, i'll through in 2x1GB DIMMs; could care less about DVDRW, and lenovo 6 cell > dell 9 cell, esp. w/ integrated graphics. -
Anyone else try stacking the 28% AMEX coupon with anything else? (FW, Tailormade, EPP/SPP) Even by itself it seems like a pretty good deal and there's no hassle. -
Both the Amex promotion and FW are activated by a click that directs you to Lenovo site, so it seems to me impossible to use both. -
Why aren't more people starting with the $900 config that has the Nvidia NVS140? For $90 more (after the 10% off), its a lot more performance. I have a Vostro 1400 on order and will likely go with this instead:

Not everyone needs a dedicated graphics chip. Furthermore, you get less battery life by getting one.

How is the IBM abg wireless that comes default? I was close to picking up the Intel 4945 agn, however none of the wireless networks I use are planning to start moving to n until its final. -

-
guys what if I click the AMEX link and in checkout use a VISA card? Is this offer valid only for AMEX card holders?
-
-
I'm asking 'couse I went through all the way to check out just using the provided link. Ok, anyway it's still a good deal with "just" the 10% off (as long as Lenovo will honor it ... in my confirmation e-mail I got a price before deducting the 10% ... argh!)
-
smoothoperator Notebook Evangelist
you can actually build an R61 with the Quadro 140 card for $551.00 If you want WXGA+ and A/B/G it will be $596 still a good deal!
-
-
smoothoperator Notebook Evangelist
before any discount, I haven't found a discount coupon code that works, pm me and I will give you the link
-
I can't get a R61 configured for that price? Maybe you logged in with SPP or EPP already?
-
PLEASE HELP
As a newb, I ordered the R61 with the T5470, AGN card, quadro 140m, and vista premium in an attempt to have a full santa rosa system.
However, some ppl on fatwallet are saying that if it has the quadro 140m and not the X3100, its not a full santa rosa system!
Is this true, or are these guys a buncha tards
I need to know because I fear the current discounts will disappear tonight at midight EST. And if true, I can place another order real quick and simply cancel my original.
Thanks for your expertise -
smoothoperator Notebook Evangelist
if you have the Thinkpad AGN card instead of the Intel 4965 it is not a "full santa rosa system" (I assume you are talking about the centrino designation). If you don't have intel graphics it will not get the centrino sticker as well.
-
I did order mine with the Intel 4965 AGN.
But am I missing out on anything by ordering with the quadro 140m (besides sticker)? -
smoothoperator Notebook Evangelist
all you will miss out on is the optimized power savings, performance, and compatibility with regards to broad standards intel has set forth for ODM's. It is debateable if the Centrino is merelly marketing hype or really provides a truthful increase in performance (mainly wireless), compatiblity, and power savings when all these components are combined.
-
dang. i dont know what all that stuff is, but it sounds like alot. Im thinking maybe i should cancel my order now. I just dont know.
-
smoothoperator Notebook Evangelist
bottom line, if you need graphics performance, (play games, 3D, CAD etc)keep your current order, if you require long battery life then cancel it and get something with integrated graphics.
-
ok thanks man. i would like the option to play the occasional game. and i did get the 7 cell battery which was the largest. i suppose im good to go.
-
I pulled the trigger on this last night..After looking over the confirmation email with the detail, I noticed that the video card card listed on the email is different than what was in the cart when I paid. There was no option to select anything other than : Intel GMA X3100 GM965 w/ 1394 ???
What do you think I'm going to get ...960?

I hope like hell this is untrue. -
weberror. They're canceling all the R61 orders placed during the weekend. I just talked to their representative (after 40min wait on the phone).
Too good to be true I guess ... F*#K!! -
not true no true

Screw that. They need to just send me what I ordered.
This is the 3rd time trying to purchase my 1st laptop, all from lenovo.
The first time, they cancelled my order while shipping others theirs.
2nd time UPS was kind enough to get their dirty brown mitts on my laptop and take it home with them.
And now this. What a crock of sh!t.
ThinkPad R61 - $473.40
