This is an incredible deal for any new thinkpad at this price.

Blows away even the best sub $500 sunday specials.

This deal lasted exactly 40 minutes after sp00n posted it. Good effort, though.

I hear that this offer takes the 28% off the "regular," undiscounted price correct? Is it stackable with Tailormade or FW?

I configured the same spec'ed notebook, one with the AMEX link and USXFAMILY and it came to 555, and then did it the normal way with the 10% off and it was 553 - so it was a wash for me.

Seriously thinking about jumping on this one:

    ThinkPad R61 - 1 Year Depot Warranty
    Edit
    Ships within 3-4 weeks** $509.40 $509.40

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T5470 (1.6GHz 800MHz 2MBL2)[1]
    Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic[12]
    14.1 WXGA TFT, w/o Camera
    Intel GMA X3100 GM965 w/ 1394
    512 MB PC2-5300 SDRAM DDR2 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)[8]
    UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad)
    80GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm[4]
    CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo 24X/24X/24X/8X Max, Ultrabay Enhanced[5]
    ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe US/EMEA/LA/ANZ[10]
    6 cell Li-Ion Battery[60]
    7732: 1 Year Depot Warranty - Express[7]

Plus 1GB Crucial extra ram for $24 after rebate.

I was thinking about a nice ultraportable but this might be somewhat acceptable given that it'll be a good 1k less than whatever else I'd get, plus its a Thinkpad as a consolation and still isn't a 15"+ monster.

Lenovo's website sucks so bad, when it isn't so slow I could make a pot of coffee all you get is a blank screen (like now)

You always complain about the speed of the website when no one else does. Clearly, that is a personal problem.

That's why you need a new ThinkPad. Because the computer you're using now sucks.

By the way, when I ask this, I am not asking for my own benefit because I already have a T61. I'm asking for more info so I can update the discounts guide as to help everybody.

    Awesome deal.

Just canceled my $808 Vostro w/ the 8600m for a R61. Sure I won't be playing Crysis anytime soon, but I saved ~$300, and got a higher res screen.

Thanks for the great find :D. It says:

Click REDEEM and use your American Express Card when making your purchase.

Wouldn't this conflict with FatWallet click?)

    yes.

    vostro: 1GB, 120GB, DVDRW, 9 cell, wxga
    lenovo: 512MB, 80GB, CDRW, 6 cell, wxga+

RAM amount doesn't matter, i'll through in 2x1GB DIMMs; could care less about DVDRW, and lenovo 6 cell > dell 9 cell, esp. w/ integrated graphics.

I haven't tried FatWallet - never used it. (I have my employers EPP, used Tailormade and the stackable 10% coupon back when I ordered.)

Anyone else try stacking the 28% AMEX coupon with anything else? (FW, Tailormade, EPP/SPP) Even by itself it seems like a pretty good deal and there's no hassle.

Actually they say "UP TO 28%... and UP TO 25%...". The actual discount looks like the same as SPP.

Both the Amex promotion and FW are activated by a click that directs you to Lenovo site, so it seems to me impossible to use both.

Why aren't more people starting with the $900 config that has the Nvidia NVS140? For $90 more (after the 10% off), its a lot more performance. I have a Vostro 1400 on order and will likely go with this instead:

    Code:
     1 7742CT CONFIGURED SYSTEM
    08/30/07 $669.60 $669.60
     	      42X2726 SBB INTEL2DUO PROCESSOR T5470
42V8011 VBB MS WIN VISTA HOME PREMIUM
42W7261 SBB MSWINVISTA H-PREM64 US ENG
     	      42V9323 SBB 14.1 WXGA TFT,W/OCAM.
42X0932 SBB NVIDIA QUADRO NVS 140M MEDIACARD
     	      41W2057 VBB 512MB PC2-5300 667MHZ1DIMM
     	      42V8195 SBB KEYBOARD US ENGLISH
     	      42W7032 SBB ULTRANAV(TRCKP+TOUCHP)
     	      42V8708 SBB 80GB HDD,5400RPM
     	      42V8717 SBB CD-RW/DVD-R.24X24X24X8UB-S
41W1685 SBB 11ABGWIFI WL LAN USEULAANZ
     	      62P6054 VBB INTEGR.BLUETOOTH PAN
     	      42V9338 SBB 6 CELL LI-ION BATERRY
The Vostro and R61 prices are close, however with the R61 I can get Vista Home Premium and presumably better build quality.

Not everyone needs a dedicated graphics chip. Furthermore, you get less battery life by getting one.

Agreed! I didn't even realize the NVIDIA 140m card was available on the R61 until I did a little digging... for the $90 extra, I went with a similar configuration and pulled the trigger TODAY! But... est. ship date is 9/13, hehe

I completely agree with that. I had a thought a lot about getting the Intel X3100, however the casual gamer in me won out. I would really love to just try a couple games on the X3100 to convince myself that is is acceptable.

How is the IBM abg wireless that comes default? I was close to picking up the Intel 4945 agn, however none of the wireless networks I use are planning to start moving to n until its final.

I'm asking 'couse I went through all the way to check out just using the provided link. Ok, anyway it's still a good deal with "just" the 10% off (as long as Lenovo will honor it ... in my confirmation e-mail I got a price before deducting the 10% ... argh!)

    PLEASE HELP

As a newb, I ordered the R61 with the T5470, AGN card, quadro 140m, and vista premium in an attempt to have a full santa rosa system.

However, some ppl on fatwallet are saying that if it has the quadro 140m and not the X3100, its not a full santa rosa system!

Is this true, or are these guys a buncha tards

I need to know because I fear the current discounts will disappear tonight at midight EST. And if true, I can place another order real quick and simply cancel my original.

    Thanks for your expertise :)

if you have the Thinkpad AGN card instead of the Intel 4965 it is not a "full santa rosa system" (I assume you are talking about the centrino designation). If you don't have intel graphics it will not get the centrino sticker as well.

I did order mine with the Intel 4965 AGN.

But am I missing out on anything by ordering with the quadro 140m (besides sticker)?

all you will miss out on is the optimized power savings, performance, and compatibility with regards to broad standards intel has set forth for ODM's. It is debateable if the Centrino is merelly marketing hype or really provides a truthful increase in performance (mainly wireless), compatiblity, and power savings when all these components are combined.

bottom line, if you need graphics performance, (play games, 3D, CAD etc)keep your current order, if you require long battery life then cancel it and get something with integrated graphics.

not to piss in anyones cornflakes or anything ...

but there is a report on FW that says a CSR said all orders for R61 placed 7/27 and after are gettings cancelled due to price mistake.

I hope like hell this is untrue.

Screw that. They need to just send me what I ordered.

This is the 3rd time trying to purchase my 1st laptop, all from lenovo.

The first time, they cancelled my order while shipping others theirs.

2nd time UPS was kind enough to get their dirty brown mitts on my laptop and take it home with them.

And now this. What a crock of sh!t.
