ThinkPad R61 - $473.40

I don't understand how they can do this though. Its not like the price was outrageously low for those specs

 

I beg to differ...R61's for around $450 to $660 for a Thinkpad is a Historic Low!

 

for 541.00 you are getting a pretty good discrete graphics chip and some of the newest technology this isnt a clearance of some old model, this model is new and has the newest processors, motherboard, etc. You can easily option one of these up to ~3k. So for what you are getting it seems like an extraordinary deal. Weird thing is you can still at this moment order one for 441 or 541 with the 140 chip. So I have a hard time believing they won't ship them out since on their website the same prices that were there 2-3 days ago are still there.

 

Sorry to confuse you. "Not true not true" was directed at smoothoperators post saying that the deal is still good. It only appears to work on the website - if you get your R61 for less than $800 that means they'll cancel it.

 

When will they cancel by did they tell you? Damn... i got mine for 600 + 107 for ultrabay battery

Ok, wow. I feel as if a great deal of weight has been lifted from my chest. I am saying this because my total, nicely configured, was $800.35

Not sure about that. I asked the guy if the processor price drop (-$225) was the error and he said yes + some other mistakes (he didn't specify). Then I asked him what's the real price for the R61 system in the cheapest option they have - he put me on hold and then said $1060 (!!). He also advised me to take one of their C100 home laptops

I think it would be the best to call them yourselves and ask about the specific order instead of hoping that yours won't be canceled.

 

ok thats a complete load. even the website says that the lowest is 800 flat.. i think u should try a different guy to see if you get a different response... well as far as im concerned im not gonna call or anything. i don't want them to tag my account.

there have been other ppl that have called and, asked very specifically, about R61 cancellations and we told they knew nothing about them.

i am also not calling. you run the risk of getting a douchebag on the phone who presses the cancel button on you, where otherwise, your order may have been processed and shipped.

First rule of hot deals/possible price mistakes is don't call. Let the momentum of the system work in your favor. And I mean, it's not like the $60 x series a few weeks back- where there was no way of anyone's going through. I'm guessing everyone is ok, especially those who added a few options.

Either way, keep a low profile, stfu, and wait for your order.

Good luck getting your R61s guys. I couldn't order yesterday because lenovo wouldn't let me login into my account. Hence I couldn't checkout.

But anyways I tried calling today and telling about the problem I had yesterday and why I couldn't order. Well they told me that the whole "sale" was a glitch! The T5XXX cpu were never available.

 

it was a long glitch then. that chipset was avaialbe for a good half a week or so... but i guess this isn't a place for opininos as such.

 

Maybe they will let all the disgruntled buyers get a free upgrade to the T7300.

 

as of 12:22pm PST you can still configure a R61 to have that T5xxx processor.

 

They let me modify my T5470 order this morning, added DVD & camera. Sent new confirmation, charged my CC..

I think I'm good-->

1) cdr to dvd recordable 2) added Camera to WXGA 3) Swapped 7 cell for a 6 Cell Battery 4) upgraded to AGN Wireless Card

 

I was thinking of getting a cam... but they don't have a physical cover to disable it... how do you know its not recording ? does it have a led showing thats it's active?

Sorry to interrupt... Just how you guys could have configured R61 for $4xx.xx or $5xx.xx??? The lowest price of R61 on AMEX promotional site is $760, and there are only "add" and no "subtract" in customization. Even after you applied the USXFAMILY, it's still over $700. Did I miss anything?

That's a consolation, though. So I don't have to consider this model, which didn't interest me anyway but for the awesome deal you got.

 

It is not clear if Lenovo will ship those orders.
It seems the orders are being cancelled.

Check with your credit card if they already put a hold for that amount.

They can't just cancel orders 4 days later and not even send an apology. (well obviously they can... but that's why we have agencies that protect consumers)

Well my order seems to have been canceled since I cannot access my order anymore, so I have filed a complaint with the FTC. Thanks for the link btw.

The real question is......how many R61's have been cancelled by Lenovo over the past weekend.

 

I believe if you bought a few upgrades, they will feel compelled to ship --something--t7100 most likely.

 

You know what's sickening ? they still have the downgrade to 5470 cpu and the other lower end cpus in the Education portal. (at least the one i have access to)

I can still configure the deal (actually cheaper if you buy 2GB ram)

They are in China, Lenovo might as well be the Chinese Government, you'd have to sue them in Chinese (kangaroo) court. WTF do you think you can do?

There are a few people on FW reporting their R61 orders shipped already (including one who ordered 50).

The key to getting it shipped: T5450 CPU, instead of the T5470 that most people ordered. The only difference is the bus speed (667 vs. 800), which would have made little/no difference in performance. But they had T5450 in stock, and no stock of the T5470 (at least not yet).
