I finally ordered my new T60! I'm so excited! I ordered over the phone this morning and bought a T60 for $1920. Here's my configuration:

    ThinkPad T60 (2613HKU)

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (2GHz)
    14.1" SXGA+
    128 ATI Mobility Radeon X1400
    DVD-R/W optical drive
    6 cell battery
    Windows XP Pro
    1.5GB RAM
    100GB 5400rpm hard drive
    ThinkPad ABGN wireless adapter
    4 year depot warranty
    4 year protection warranty
    ThinkPad Nylon Carrying Case

"Should arrive in 2 to 3 weeks. Unfortunately, you should not expect it by Thanksgiving."

    I'm so happy!

    Matt

Very nice configuration. A great machine. How much extra was the 802.11n wireless?

I was looking at the Vista upgrade options earlier and to me it looks like a better option to go with XP Home and get the rebate for Vista Home Premium instead of going XP Pro and getting Vista Business. Vista Business doesn't have the media center capabilities and can't be used to hook up to an Xbox 360. The only reason go to XP Pro/Vista Business would be if you needed the ability to join a domain on a network.

I have the R60 which I think uses the same panels. It is a pretty typical matte screen. I had a V3000 for a while. It has been an adjustment in terms of screen brightness. I only can use it four out of seven or above with five being the setting I prefer while on battery. Viewing angles are narrow compared to the FlexView, but that's to be expected. I only wish they made a 14" FlexView. It is worth the premium you'd have to pay in my opinion. I wanted something smaller so I was willing to sacrifice the viewing angles for being lighter and better battery life.

Flexview is great but I don't think that I would ever pay the premium for the upgrade unless I could get a good percent discount off. It's like $315 to upgrade to the Flexview 15" and for that you can buy a good 20.1" desktop LCD if you need better color reproduction.

Event photographers are often doing photo editing on the road and don't have the benefit of an external monitor. Even if that didn't apply to me, it's nice not worrying about screen orientation

It is about $400 cheaper now than I have ever seen it before. Coming in at $1200 for just the screen and graphics card upgrades. The screen is perhaps the most important part on the notebook, but because of size and added weight may not be the best choice for everyone.

I hope Mturco11x has not paid extra for the ABGN wireless.

I was going to pay $30 extra, but I've changed my mind on that.

The sales rep I talked with today did not know if T60 came with this new card. After some back and forth arguments about it, he finally conceded that it did. He was going to charge more than $30 for it and I told him no. Then he did not know if he had to charge anything extral at all. He was going to talked to his supervisor and would let me know. I am still waiting for him to send me an e-mail (He promised to do so in 20-30 minutes, but he he never did before he called it the day (3-4 hours later).

The thing is that the Lenovo web page implies that ABGN is a standard item for T60.

However, it has yet to be listed on the configuration page.

I will probably wait a few more days to let dust settle.

Hmmm, would seem that it is standard, but then from the options towards the bottom, only ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN [standard] is listed.

Yes its not listed under the T models. Just tell the represenative that you want the n card from the Z series and he'll have to transfer the SKU number over. If he still cannot do it then I can give you the SKU number myself from the quote I got yesterday.

    Thanks guys.

Firstly, expect a review within the first week of my T60's arrival. I will try to be very thorough. Expected date of arrival: 12/11. Holy crap! I'm not sure if I'll last that long!

Secondly, no, I did not pay anything extra for the new wireless adapter. Simply because I told my sales guy that I would not buy this notebook if I could not get it installed. Apparently, he valued my business more than $30. :D Also, he said he had to "manually overwrite the order" to get the right wireless adapter installed... right.

Thirdly, about the XP Pro > Vista Business thing. I am actually very happy I will be getting Vista business rather than Home Premium. I do not use half the features of home (I do not own an Xbox) and I do use almost all Pro features. I develop applications often and a lot of the features I use are only available in business versions.

I will let you know the minute anything changes.

Until then... let the long wait begin... (I'm sure you've all experienced this),

You may get it much earlier than expected. My custom order was supposed to be shipped on the third week of November (Nov.23+/-) when I ordered it last Oct.30. I got it delivered to my place first week of November!

Just keep checking your tracking system...

    Best, urod

I ordered a T60p (2613LPU) yesterday (the 16th) and the website is showing 12/19 as the estimated ship date, so don't feel bad!

I don't know if I have the patience for this one. ;) I got the last one back when IBM sold prebuilt units on eBay at good prices...

    You're on man! :D

    Lol. True.

Lmao. Yeah, I guess you could say that. It all depends all which parts you configuration your notebook with. For instance, the n adapter delays mine 2-3 days, and the standard Intel one delays your order by 10 days. Ouch.

the reason I order it through phone is because I can get student 5% discount which I can not apply online. I think 5% discount is ok this time for Lenovo has sale in this month. Usually it is 10% discount, my friend got 10% discount for his
    Z61t.

5% discount isn't bad, for being student. You just tell them on the phone and they apply it to your purchase?

yes, at begining,I asked him if I could have student discount, he was trying to refuse me by some non-sense excuse, such as " we do have promotion for u , like free 512mb memory." Instead , I told me , I got 5% discount this morning from another representative, the price is based on website; however, I did not know what happened on my order this morning, he did not process it,( pissed me off). So I have to reorder again.
During the discount process, He took a long time to calculate the discount, I belive he is trying to find out how much commision he count make.

Yes, the commission side of it. A reason why many people do not bother and go straight from online.

Can somebody answer me the following VERY NOOB question please.

Is the thinkpad 802.11a/b/g/n that is offered on Lenovos sight an Atheros card? I have been following several threads where people been saying that Atheros wirless card is far superior to the Intel.

    Thanks

Thank you Momo I appreciate that. I tried doing a search first but could not find the answer. I assumed it was but when it says thinkpad beside the wireless option I thought maybe they had their own brand or something. In fact I had no idea.

It seems like there is a consensus that the Atheros cards are the best so why are people still purchasing the Intels if I may ask?

I see. Thanks for the reply.

I have another question that I thought was noobish so have refrained from asking but will now. I was looking at the website:
    http://www.cdw.com/shop/search/Results.aspx?key=t60p&filteredsortorder=PRICEDESC&platform=all&sr=1

My question is why are the 14" models so bloody expensive? I have looked on the Lenovo site but am hard pressed to configure a model to come out to those prices.
    What makes them so expensive?
    What am I missing?

    Joe

Exactly, but there must be some reason that I am missing. This website was brought up by somebody else in another thread (that I can't find now) where they purchased their unit from. They said they got a great deal from these guys.
    I cannot figure out how.

I dont know why there are so expensive, I think they still believe IBM THINKPADs have same price as before, so the just keep price higher. However, I think no one will get laptop from them and they all will be pissed off by Lenovo price.

Humm, say, I also reply post in Chinese thinkpads fans forum, they all believe Thinkpads have different quality control, for example, good quality rated A, OK quality rated B and pass quality rated C. Lenovo sell these 3 types to different country with different price. well, maybe its a gossip, maybe its ....

Did they get a great deal from CDW or CDWG? CDWG is the branch of that company that only deals with government and they do indeed get good prices, but if you aren't government you can't buy from them.

It's been in process since I ordered it, and it's not the Intel wireless, I went with the regular Thinkpad wireless..lazy slugs just don't want me to have it for my trip to new york. ;) I'll have to lug the T30 with it's whopping hour of battery life and use my oh-so-clunky data card. ;)
