The WWAN card emplacement is a standard 42 mm M.2 slot, so it's "physically" possible to put a 42 mm M.2 SSD here. Same thing on the X1 2014, but the SSDs plugged on this slot weren't recognized by the laptop. The story don't tell if these tested SSDs were PCIe or SATA. I don't even know if there is such a thing as 42 mm PCIe SSD yet.

Well the pricing is up on the uk store now, i7 ips non touch with 256 drive is about £1820 so $2695 so I think about $500 more if you add sales tax and 3 year warranty to the U.S. price. Can you buy the X1 in stores in America or is it just online?
Also on th UK site it does list the 256 drive as pcie.

Odd how it just sat there after it got there.. I guess the guys who fly for UPS do work Sunday while the actual plant doesn't. Either way I've already seen 2 or 3 ups trucks today out on the road, regular deliveries, it can't possibly take 3 more business days to get here right?!

One question to anyone who has revived their x1 how sturdy is it, if you pick it up one handed say by the right corner with the screen open is their any bend on the base. I tried it with a 13 inch yoga in a store yesterday on it seemed to be flexing the case

With the Gen2 - maybe a SLIGHT amount, hardly noticeable. It feels rock solid by doing that, I just did it with the one I'm typing this on.

Thanks, I hoped that would be the case given the way they emphasise the build quality. Hard thing about buying without being able to see in person first.

I completed the order the night of January 15. I'm somewhat nervous about buying a laptop sight unseen online. I previously had a T40 which I made last for 9 years. I bought an E431 a year ago, and I'm not impressed. That said I'm really looking forward to getting my X1 carbon. The order is still showing:

I just changed my shipment so I can pick it up at the UPS warehouse near my house. Like this I can get it on the way to work, instead of waiting until I get home!

Still going to be Thursday though..

Yes - I think you (kev), tes and myself have three that are stuck in KY.

I expect them to update after 10pm.. I dont understand why it would move so fast to KY and then sit there for 24 hours.. doesn't seem to make sense. Today was def a work day for UPS... I saw the trucks out everywhere!

So I guess someone will have to test out a 42 mm M.2 SSD in that slot and see if it works. I doubt tech support would have a useful answer. I do see up to 256 GB options available.

Beware, there's no 42mm M.2 PCIe SSD yet. Any 80mm M.2 PCIe SSDs will most probably work in the dedicated SSD slot, but if we want to put a second SSD in the M.2 slot dedicated to the WWAN card, a 42mm SATA M.2 SSD is probably NOT going to work.

Yeah, got excited when I saw how fast it seemed to be moving. Mine is coming to Ontario, Canada. Don't know if that's going to make a difference in when it leaves KY.

In my experience with UPS, when something is shipped using their standard (ground) shipping, they will rather keep the item at their hub and let it sit there rather than delivering it early. When they say 3-5 business days you can be sure it's going to take 5.

My order still shows an estimated ship date of 01/25. I pinged them on chat and asked what is the hold up, and they said they are waiting on parts from their supplier.

Hi all. New to Thinkpad and new to X1 Carbon. One question, does the X1 Carbon 3rd Gen have an SD card reader?

    Thanks, Jim

Meh, last time I used an SD card was years ago... even my DSLR camera wirelessly uploads pictures in full resolution to my google picasa account.

Now with the state of cell phones, wifi sd cards, usb3 drives, google drive, there's really no need to be uptight about card readers..

took 2 hours to get from KY to CT.. that's a 13 hour drive.. UPS pilots must fly fast!

When you factor in loading/unloading of a plane.. your's was less than 2 hours.. would be interesting to strap a small camera to one of our boxes and see it's trip!!

I just received mine. I went for all the trimmings except the touch screen, so 2560x screen, 512 / 8gb / i7

I've owned all the X1 Carbons. 1st one was groundbreaking for its time, 2nd one they made some STUPID choices with the adaptive strip and touchpoint buttons but the 3rd one really shows they listened to the fury of the users.

Downsides? Why isn't there a 16gb option in this day and age? What happened to the SD card slot?

    Pleasant surprise? HDMI port!

I'm keeping track of thoughts and photos here -

    The saga continues.....

The screen was blank, and when I pressed the power button it would start beeping.

Called tech support, created a case and they're sending me a box to return it......

Being an idiot I tried holding the power button for 60 seconds, but it wouldn't power down. So I took the bottom off and unplugged the battery from the MOBO. Put it back in, hit the power, and we're back up!!!!!
