Thanks. Specs ( PDF) seem better than what Lenovo states.

New! Lenovo-IGF ThinkPad X1 320 GB 4 GB W764 | eBay
(listed on ebay by a seller that makes me nervous...sigh...) -
I'm in a very similar situation as you and I also came across that listing. I've tried contacting the seller but no response...seems sketchy
If you decide to take this option please share your experience. -

My EPP price is $56 higher after coupon but before tax and shipping from Lenovo. Therefore his price is pretty good.
He's a new seller and I can tell you from personal experience it takes months to build a rep. I am trying to sell three laptops and eBay will only let me list one because I'm new.
The feedback he has looks pretty good so far. -
When you look at how little activity there is in this thread and, generally, how little interest there is in this notebook, I can't help but think that I'll be picking one up from the outlet in a few months for $850.

How annoying......just got an email from lenovo about an "Ultraportables Sale!"..........that does not include the X1
But..
10% off coupon popped up on the barnes and noble site: USX10TWX10728 valid through August 3. -

just an fyi- X1s are back in stock in the lenovo outlet, and a few more were added to the cdw outlet as well (if I decide on one, I plan to purchase from the cdw outlet, since the residual of the 3 year warranty still applies)
hth someone -
$947 on CDW for an I5-2520M X1 with the warranty ... nice price.

Check it out guys,
X1 is on Lenovo Outlet. The first I've seen. one with 160GB SSD and 8GB ram goes for $1667 New. -
I3 X1 for under $900 at the outlet. Wow. With Lenovo anouncing its committment to ultrabooks, I wonder what the future of the X1 is. My wife needs to upgrade her Lenovo S12. I'm thinkin an I3 X1 might be perfect.
Shame she hates Thinkpad looks (she really wants a 13" MBA). -
MBA > X1 any day.
-
-
From all the user experiences with the T420, T420s, and X220 notebooks, it seems even the dual core sandy bridge CPUs run pretty warm. I'm beginning to think (well I've always had doubts) that maybe Jason from Anandtech may have confused the i7-2620M for a quad core cpu
.
-
The Thinkpad X1 chassis doesn't get really hot under load, it is lukewarm. But the fan does put out lot of heat...
Lenovo X1 is not a direct competitor to the MBA, it is more of a MBP competitor, which one you buy would really depend on the operating system you want to use on them. If you are going to run windows, then the X1 is better than the MBP, if you are going to run Mac OS X then you should for the MBP (naturally).
I think the MBA 11 inch and 13 inch are awesome machines in that size and weight category, while the MBP 13 is more of a bread and butter laptop for the Apple OS fans. But X1 really shows off the potential that Lenovo engineers have as designers and engineers for designing a beautiful and functional computer at a moderate price. -
-
I really like this computer but I am seriously questioning Lenovo's pricing in Europe. I know that we in Norway have a higher average wage and all that but seriously, $3500 for an X1 whilst its listed for roughly $1300 on Lenovo's US webpage?
How on earth do you justify a price difference of $2200? -
Any idea how hard it would be to put a bluetooth module in the X1? Also, how accessible would the CPU be for future upgrading? PGA socket, not BGA I assume.
@Nickem - is the price difference the same on other Lenovo models like the X220? It sure is crazy. -
-
My X1 with i7 2620 rocks my pimped out 2010 MBP17 with i7. Both laptops have SSDs, crucial m4 256gb in the x1 and samsung 470 256gb in the mbp.
The X1 lacks a little on the display but I've been using this machine for a month now and I can tell you that theres not much glare on the screen. I didn't feel uncomfortable or notice glare on the screen while using, I actually had to put lights behind me to notice the glare.
I don't hear fan under normal use and the fan kicks in under heavy laods but its integral and goes away as it cools down. I was using tpfancontrol before the bios update but the new bios does better job than me setting parameters on the tpfan. Also, the laptop stays cool on the keyboard area but the fan blows warm air and the bottom part near the fan stays warm but not like burning hot.
I'm not much of a type expert but to me X1' keyboard feels better than any other thinkpads. I prefer this keyboard than cherry blue stem. I've told that they use the same keyboard as the ideapad u260 but theres night and day difference between the two.
The battery last about 3 hours on maximum performance, and I have no complaints since I rarely us it on battery power but I think it could get better. -
-
No Quad Core in X1.
The fan on the X1 is really quite.
Something i find odd about the X1 is the fact that while the CPU is in full performance, there is lot of hot air coming out from the vent, but the base of the laptop never gets hot. It is almost like voodoo magic. -

FYI,
The X1 started showing up at http://outlet.lenovo.com/ -
Yep. We noticed. Looks like Acer, Asus and Lenovo will have their ultrabooks out in a few weeks. My wife needs a replacement for her netbook (Lenovo S12) and would like a display as big as my Acer. I'm waiting to see how the ultrabooks look but will keep watching the outlet. $888 is a decent price for the I3 X1 (w/o bluetooth). While watching the ultrabook releases, hopefully, there will be a coupon that stacks on the outlet price. An I5 X1 in the $850 price range would be hard to resist.
-
Thinking of getting a Thinkpad X1. Is the current 12% coupon available right now a good deal or does Lenovo frequently offer better rebates than that ? Thanks
-
Don't get one these days. If you don't need/want the traditional thinkpad features (matte screen, roll cage, keyboard, dvd drive, etc.), Lenovo is outing some ultrabooks (u300s) very soon and they are thinner, lighter and have a better battery life than the X1. If you like the traditional thinkpad features, the X220/ T420s is obviously a better choice.
-
I am a new user of the Thinkpad X1(with the standard 320gb hd), and I was wondering if it is possible to use a msata ssd in the X1 (just like the X220), or would it be better to swap the 320gb hd for a SSD?
-
you can use the mSATA SSD if you don't have the WWAN card installed.
-
Thank you very much, now do you think its a good idea to buy the intel msata 80gb ssd, which cost about $200, or would it be better to swap the 320gb hd for an intel 510 120gb ssd? How does the speed of the msata 310 ssd compare to the Intel 510 ssd? Thanks again for the reply.
-
Thors.Hammer Notebook Enthusiast
If I were you I would not buy a SSD drive below 160GB in size. 80 is pretty small if you have a lot of music, pics, etc. 120 isn't much better and I am already having to prune more than I'd like.
-
The X1 is designed to use 7mm thick hard drives so make sure whatever HD you get will fit (I think the 510 is a 9.5mm HD).
-
I do like the design of the x1 but not so much the ultrabooks... I hesitate between the x220 and the x1.
For those who have the x1, is the screen THAT bad for a TN? How does it compare to a mbp screen other than the resolution? Is the battery life enough for 3h taking notes on word wifi enabled?
Finally, is the x220 as rugged as the x1?
I never bought a lenovo before but do they sometimes revise their models and add new specs like a higher resolution sreen to the x1? -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
-
The screen on the X1 is pretty good, it is far better than the average TN LCD used in the normal Thinkpads. The colour accuracy of the X1 LCD is about the same as MBP 13, haven't checked the viewing angle.
i get about 4 hrs with wifi enabled typing in the word documents.
The X1 is extremely well built in terms of chassis design, better than the X220 in some aspects. -

I would like to see an IPS screen on it. Wouldn't we all. -
IPS and 1600 x 900. We may get our wish fulfilled on the last point, but not sure about the IPS part.

well, lets say i didn't make it up and someone confirmed it during the event i went to last week. I don't think HD+ will be in the X1, maybe the subsequent model.
I think the X1 got lot more sales than the X30x machines, but compared to the MBP and MBA it is rather anemic. But it is a really good machine, and if you have used the previous iterations of Thinkpad X30x and T400s/T410s then you would know that the X1 is a serious piece of engineering marvel. -
Thors.Hammer Notebook Enthusiast
I intend to buy the X2 or whatever the model number is, assuming the HD+ IPS screen becomes a reality. I can live without IPS, but not 1366x768.
Thanks for confirmation. -
Appatently the next iteration will be smaller and ultrabook thin from what i heard.
