I didn't install rapidboot and my boot times are sub 20 seconds.

sounded just like a memory issue.
if nothing came up on memtest, if it has 2 sodimm I would remove one and give it a try.
sounds like you're going to need to return it regardless. I wouldn't put up with it.
-
Thanks, I am gonna nuke the Rapidboot.

hello x220 owners, do you guys think this is a good price for $840 (before tax & shipping)?
Intel Core i5-2430M Processor (2.4GHz, 3MB L3, 1333MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64
12.5" Premium HD (1366x768) LED Backlit Display, Mobile Broadband Ready, 2x2 Antenna
4 GB DDR3 - 1333MHz (1 DIMM)
No Fingerprint Reader
720p HD Camera
320 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
No Micro Solid State Drive
ThinkPad Battery 29+ (6 cell)
Country Pack North America with Line cord & 65W AC adapter
Bluetooth 3.0
ThinkPad b/g/n -
I think it's pretty good, is it with the latest BLACKFRIDAY coupon?
-
You're right, it looks like it was bad RAM. I ran Memtest again for a couple of hours today, and it found an error. Bought some memory and swapped it out with the bad one, and its been smooth sailing so far.
I guess I'll contact Lenovo now and see what they'll do with the bad RAM. Sending the laptop back is always an option, but sounds like a massive hassle. Meh. -
If its definitely a bad memory issue see if Lenovo is willing to send you a new RAM module for the faulty one instead of sending the whole unit back. It probably work out a lot easier for yourself and for them too.
-
Quick question mate:
1/I am looking to buy this laptop with USB3.0 but I didn't see the option in Lenovo website. Is that true if I have to buy the core i7 to have usb 3.0?
2/How's the usb 3.0 on the x220 perform atm? -
1. Yes
2. Not sure, but it's obviously faster than 2.0, not sure about benchmarks... -
The cheapest I've seen the X220 with the i5 was about $620 over the summer. If you figure in your upgrades, that'd make it about $700. I'd say it's not bad for of late, but I've seen better. There'll be better pricing down the road. It's only a matter of when. The question is do you want to wait it out?
Are you not getting the IPS LCD? If you're looking to save a few bucks and it's just a general purpose machine, I'd drop down to the i3. I have the i3 and never once have I wished I upgraded.
Other than that, it looks like a nice machine. Pop in a mSATA drive and you're in like flynn. -
Careful on the controls, or you'll end up with Rapidnuke !
-
Thanks, but I heard that people are having problem with using usb 3.0 at usb 2.0 speed.
-
Thanks Zaz, and yeah I thought the "Premium display" option was the IPS?
and yeah I'm willing to wait if a better deal comes down the road!
I remember once, a long time ago when the T400 first came out, some one leaked an EPP code, and everyone was getting super cheap thinkpads (but at a month and a half delivery wait time).. will that happen again?
-
Is the Intel 160GB SSD in the X220 slower than the 128GB SSD that Lenovo is offering? It's a $70 upgrade going from 128GB to 160GB. Is it worth it?
-
They must have changed it since I ordered when the Premium was on the back end.
I'm sure there will be a better deal, but when? Could be a couple weeks, it could be months.
As EPP isn't what it used to be as prices have come down. Sometimes pre-configured models cost less. The $620 price that happened over the summer was a MasterCard deal if I recall correctly. -
I'd imagine you wouldn't notice any real-world difference between two current generation SSDs.
However the extra capacity may be worth it to you. 128GB could be a little tight.
S -
Just take the lid off and plaster a single layer of electrical tape on the inside part of the cover and reassemble with shorter screws. Thats what i did and never a problem, i have the 128gb model.
Yes you do not require a windows password to boot via fingerprint. -
Is there a way that I can bypass the Windows login screen when using the fingerprint reader to power on?

Hello friends,
I ve deceided to buy X220T (not that i need of a touch screen but it seems nice
), but there is so much going on. If you dont mind i d like to clarify some of those issues for me. First of all, the throttling issue. I ve read that it has been resolved with the 1.21 bios update which is also suitable version for eGPU. Is this true or should i get 90w power brick as well?
Is USB3.0 available in x220T with i7 or not. If its not, should i downgrade the cpu to i5. Maybe i can replace the i5 with i7 quad later (dont know if its doable ).
Are there any orientation/Wi-fi problems with thinkpad wi-fi cards?
Here are the specifics that i most probably going to order:
i7, 320gigs 5400rpm HD, 4gb ram ~1400$, (before tax in Canada). I know this is too expensive, but i guess there is no other option to get them in Canada anyways is there?.
Although these issuses are discussed over and over again, I d really appriciate if you could relieve me on these topics.
Thanks -
What's the best case sleeve for the X220 with regular 6-cell batt.???
USB3 is only available with the i7 CPU option. Throttling issue is supposed to be fixed few BIOS versions back.
Does anybody here run both the mSATA SSD with a 2.5" SSD together??? Can this be done? -
Just received yesterday my brand new X220. Configuration is: Core i7, 8Gb RAM, 160Gb SSD, IPS screen, Ericsson WWAN card, 6 cell battery, UltraBase3 dock with DVD drive. Very happy with my purchase!
-
Congrats! I just ordered a very similar system yesterday except I ordered a 80gb mSATA for the WWAN slot and left the 320 GB HDD for storage. They even threw in a sleeve and a wireless mouse and keyboard.
-
Nice. I think you will be very happy with your system. At least I love mine
For storage I'm using a 500Gb drive (2.5"/7200rpm) in an external USB/eSATA enclosure.
I forgot to mention, my unit also came with one USB3 port. -
Anyone have a Runcore T50 in their x220?
-
I was wondering that too. I should have one in mine in a week's time (my X220 arrives tomorrow and the Runcore T50 a couple of days later).
-
Sorry but what's the optional IPS screen? Just ordered a refurb x220 unit with the I5 for $660?? Best deal that I could find but it's doesn't have the IPS screen.
-
Yes, that's great. My understanding is that it comes with the i7 systems.
-
IPS provides wide viewing angles and a high contrast ratio, which offers a much better viewing experience.
-
^especially with colour reproduction at different angles IMHO.
S -
Which SSD are inside the new X220's ??? The Intel 160GB they show on the website.
-
@THS
Not sure why you are posting this question in two threads but I have posted before that, that based on what I've read, that it's most likely the "Intel 320 model SSDSA2M160 (Seq Rd/Write=270 MB/s,165 MB/s , Random 4KB Rd/Write=39K IOPS, 21K IOPS)."
My X220 arrives late tomorrow with this SSD and I will confirm that. -
I'd get the 320GB 5400RPM drive, then add a mSATA drive. Speed and storage, its' beautiful.
-
If you install a program on D drive, would it create some files on C drive?
-
Yes, that would almost be the normal case. For example, if you install Microsoft Office on D: drive, it will continue to add documents to your user folder on C: drive (unless you move your user folder to D: drive).
If you want to limit your usage of C: drive, you can move your user folder to D: permanently. You can google this but one way to do this is editing your registry and can changing all the c:\user (or c:\\user?) references to d:\user. -
Assuming that C drive is your system drive... it will add system files to the system folder. If your profile is on your system drive, it will add files there as well.
-
I use one of these...
iPad case Kindle cover MacBook sleeve iPhone slip case
...although it's actually from my old Vaio Z. Perfect size though.
Nice sleeves and you can have almost anything you want.
S -
Agreed. That is my current setup, and I feel like I am getting the both of best worlds now.
-
When I ordered mine late last week, there was no mechanical hard drive option listed anymore in the Canadian EPP site due to the Thailand flooding.
-
That kind of sucks. I just noticed the plethora of SSD options. I was thinking about purchasing another ThinkPad for my wife. Really weird saying that after years of Apple fanboyism!
-
Mine is listed as SSDSA2BW160G3L.
Tested with ATTO, I got 282Mb/s read and 174Mb/s write. -
That's great speed!
-
Well, sadly I will be leaving the X220 brotherhood within the next month or so.
Just placed an order for a T420s with the following specs:
-Win 7 Prof
-Core i5 2.5GHZ
-4GB RAM
-1600x900 screen
-160GB Intel SSD
-720P Webcam
-Intel Centrino 6300 3x3 wireless
-Additional 3 cell bay battery
-14" Lenovo Sleeve
All for under $1,100. The cyber monday sale just tempted me too much and I just took a plunge into the T420s.
So I will be selling my X220 mid-december during my winter break from college if anyone is interested. -
csclifford,
Well, at least you still have a ThinkPad

Thinkpad is in my blood. My dad has worked for IBM for 36 years so I have never had or dealt with a different type of laptop at my house ever! Haha got to love employee pricing too.
-
Does the glass on the x220t really get scratched? I thought it's really hard to scratch glass. I have the multitouch version. I am deciding on whether to get a screen protector.
-
I've looked at a fair number of posts but I can't find the info that will tell me whether my new X220 has the IPS LCD (that I ordered) or not.
Lenovo ThinkVantage Tool and Device Manager say the display is the "Wide viewing angle & High density FlexView Display 1366x768" so it sounds like it might be the right one.
Can someone confirm? -
Watch this video, very easy to tell the difference...
Display: TN vs. IPS at Lenovo Thinkpad X220 - YouTube -
^^^ Best to watch that clip on an IPS display.

Good point!!!
