Starting from today we have it available for preorder (Canada)! Our website should get updated shortly to reflect the new models.

 

April 19 has been the order state since the roadmap's release in Jan or Feb.

 

Now I just need me some coupon codes and we're good to go

 

So, in the US we have to wait 10 more days, no pre-orders?

In Canada, maxed out configs will go above 3k easily. I'm still under NDA, but I've seen the official prices and am a bit shocked.

 

The starting price for the X220 with i3-2310 and nothing else is $899 usd or less. If you go by T420 upgrade pricing:

+50, Win 7 Pro
+50-100, IPS (we've seen university dept pricing at 37.50, so most likely $50)

This config should be ~1229, $1106+tax after 10% coupon. I guess we'll find out in 10 days. Aikimox, are (US) Lenovo Business Partner's machines what's from tabook or other pre-configs too?

 

If you compare the same config on the US and CA websites, you will see a difference of ~150-200$. Now as far as the upgrades go, by maxed out configs I mean the ones coming with Gobi 3G, ultrabase + slice + dvd + i7, etc. Your config would cost about ~1400-1500 on lenovo.ca

 

Wow, here's an amazing price for a X220 Tablet, $1297:

I wonder if there's some pricing mistake (with all the resellers) with this model since the same config without the camera is $300 more. This a machine to pre-order if you're looking for a tablet! If there's no/less digitizer/touchpanel grain compared to the X200/X201 tablets (doubtful) I'd probably go for this.

 

My take on this, looking at some etailers with a decked out X220, that it will cost around $2,000 for the high ended version. Look at the T420s, and the same spec's compared to the T420 version and its about $340.00 more. So my guess its going to be lots more than the T420(s), but only a guess.

What a price. Tempted, and I have admired tablet pc's for a while too.

 

Although tablet are not my thing, the price is very tempting. Plus Window 8 would be more user friendly for tablet user. I just hope that Microsoft manages to pull off a system wide implementation of their tablet friendly interface.

I would not be in a rush to buy the tablet just yet, since the x201 have issue with multi-touch layer that cause viewing angle to suffer and graininess of the screen. I would wait to see the response of reviewer to see if Lenovo solve the problem.

I checked the price on a few i5 tablets from tabook. Nothing other model is even close to that price. It's got to be some mistake since the same configuration minus camera is $300 more.

 

Perhaps one should order now from CostCentral or something, and they will honour that price?

 

If a tablet is what you want it certainly wouldn't hurt to place the order and see what happens. Their customer service is supposed to be very good so maybe they would honor it. Estimated ship date is 2-3 weeks so not too long. Who knows, maybe it's not even a mistake since other retailers have that model for similar prices. Provantage, another huge reseller, has it for $1301. Plus no shipping or tax, and it comes with 4gb, 320gb and 3yr warranty. So tempting.

What I don't understand is why the X220 models in tabook except with i3 and i5-2410, are so expensive compared to the base price and review configuration. Makes me worry a little.

Yeah, I'm worried too. I'm planning to get one of these little beasts for personal/business use and even our dealer prices are confusing.

 

Most of the pre-config x220 have 3 year warranty and a 7200rpm drive, which are the most likely the culprit for it being expensive.

 

If the ~$1300 price for X220T model 42962WU is actually correct and ships, then I shall definitely own one
Same goes if the 42962XU (outdoor) is a similar price.

I would promptly DIY it to 8GB and a nice fat intel 7mm SSD, 160 or 300 most likely.

I just placed an order for x120e a few days back. Estimated shipping is 22nd which gives me way too much time to change my mind, and ever since I ordered, I've been busting my head trying to figure out whether to keep the x120e or cancel and get a x220

I so wish the x120e had the classic Thinkpad keyboard, magnesium alloy body, DVD drive and a slightly faster processor. That would pretty much seal the deal. Is that worth an extra $400-600 to me? That's what's killing me!! Now I see that the base x220 with 4GB RAM is $888, only $470 more than what I paid for x120e.

Is there someone here with x120e that could comment on how responsive the E-350 processor is? Does it occasionally hang, stutter, etc when it comes to play HD videos and browsing the net?

 

Think of the x120e as a netbook and not a notebook. The notebook doesn't really lag and the performance is what I have expected in an premium netbook. It play HD video from the web just fine. The keyboard on the x120e is pretty good and I would argue that it is just as good as the classic keyboard.

If you are question whether or not to cancel the x120e, I think you will be happier with the more expensive machine. When you are placing your order for the x220, make sure to get the IPS panel.

Also the x220 doesn't have DVD drive either, but on both machine you can add an external DVD drive for around $40.

 

Yep, it's not really fair to the X120e to compare it against the X220. If this will be your primary machine or you'll use it a lot and can afford the X220, then go for it.

 

Well it will be my primary machine but I don't do anything resource intensive. No gaming or anything. I pretty much use computers exclusively for Netflix, YouTube, DVDRips, and browsing the net while on the toilet. Which as I understand the x120e is fine for, but I'm still a bit concerned about stuttering and such now and then, I'm really stuck up about that. It's those things and the build quality that are killing me. Why oh why is there no where to test the x120e around here

Wonder if Lenovo will allow me to return the x120e if I don't like it with no restocking/shipping fee if I replace it with an x220 order from them at the time of return

 

X120e have trouble running HD Netflix because silverlight does not support hardware acceleration, I am not sure if Microsoft updated silverlight to allow hardware acceleration. The build quality is really exellent and with the BIOS upgrade the shuttering audio are gone now (thank god). However if you can afford the x220, the IPS screen would be alot better than the one that is one the x120e (the best vs third-tier panel).

 

Ouch! You're right. Hardware Acceleration is only planned for V5 which is scheduled for release at the end of 2011. That pretty much does it.

 

I have the x120e and i'm currently selling it to add funds for the x220. x120e is a pretty powerful lil computer under $500 that can do multitasking and hd video smoothly, there is some kind of slowdown because of the cpu and it doesn't feel snappy or as fast as the su7300 on my old m11x r1 but for under $500, it gets the job done.

If you are planning to use this as a secondary on the go machine that acts like a netbook but faster than a netbook, much better keyboard than a netbook in matte screen then keep it. But if you are planning on using this as a main machine then I wouldn't recommend it because the cpu still feels anemic but it is faster than any of the newer dual core netbook atoms.

 

That what I planned to do, when I first knew about the release of the x220 with an IPS panel. I later decide to go against this idea and I am going to replace my primary computer with an edge. The IPS screen are great but I don't think I could get much from my x120e to justified the loss.

In the X200/X201 the multitouch was a lot more reflective, and it also adds a lot more grain from what I've read. This is on top of the already significant grain in the standard model. I sold my X200T before we even found out the X220 specs because of this. While the IPS panel underneath was probably very good, the graininess made it look worse than my T400 which had a nice (normal) smooth clarity. The X220T should have a brand new digitzer so maybe this has changed, but multitouch will at least still probably be grainy even if the outdoor isn't.

 

How does it handle SD Netflix? Does it stutter at all?

Good news. Hey do you personally have a Netflix account? Boxee can play Netflix content, maybe Boxee can do HW acceleration for NFLX as well? Could you test that?

I noticed that at the Lenovo site, it says that the x220 Tablet is available summer 2011. Forgive me if I am misunderstanding this thread but does the April 19th date also include the tablet version?

I certainly hope so as I am in need to replace my current laptop which the screen frame cracked at one of the hinge points. I was planning to get the X220 notebook but would prefer the tablet as I will be sure to run Win8 beta when it's out!

 

I don't have a netflix account, so I can't help you there. Silverlight 5 Beta come's out in June, it should solve your Netflix HD problem.

 

Reading the tabbook, it's not apparent to me what the difference is between the X220 models 4296, 4298, and 4299.

The only difference I see between the 4298 and 4299 is that the 4299 includes some onsite service.

The only differences I see between the 4296 and 4298 are that no 4296s include the "slice" external battery, and the WWAN is described slightly and confusingly differently.

Caveat Emptor: To get IPS look for ' WideView' or check the tabook. Widescreen means nothing, nothing! All the X220's are Widescreen.

 

Silverlight 5 beta should be released 12-April at Microsoft's MIX conference. However, I don't know if MS has announced if it will have a go-live license. The final release isn't expected until late in 2011. Given the uncertainty MS has created around Silverlight, I wouldn't be surprised if companies like Netflix abandon it for Flash on their public-facing sites.

 

The tablets supposed to cone out on the 19th too, someone on a dedicated Lenovo forum heard so from rep.

 

What's a go-live licence? Also, since it's beta, do you think they will allow DRM (i.e Netflix) to run on it? Hmm
