Go-live just means clients can use it in production (as opposed to development and testing). Sometimes Microsoft will allow their good customers to use something in production before the rest of the world. Netflix is a public-facing website so I doubt they'd use a beta release of Silverlight for their public video player (just guessing).

We're starting to drift off topic a bit...my main point was that if you are evaluating the x120e you might want to consider Flash video performance in addition to Silverlight just in case netflix goes that route. Even my x200s struggles with Flash video sometimes :-(

Flash video work fine on the x120e, but I guess thecrafter, you would have to wait for silverlight HD playback till the end of this year. Like I say in the beginning of this discussion you will be more happy with the x220 with an IPS panel. You will enjoyed it longer(more durable and will be more content

With so much future owner-experience that has already be imagined here at this forum, Lenovo X220 is going to be a Thinkpad Classic. It is already widely reviewed, widely discussed (or admired), and, in the coming months, it will be widely OWNED. :)

Ouch, that's $1650 starting. Odd, there's no option for any customization. No IPS/TN, or even CPU options. They're probably still adding those in the system.

Actually, their x120e doesn't have any options, either. And the starting price for that is $770. So it looks like HK is 30% more expensive, which means i5 x220 will cost around $1150, makes more sense.

Is the outdoor screen same as IPS, I know they list it as premium HD (IPS) screen on the Tabook.

200nit for the standard screen, while the IPS screen is rated at 300nit.

    Absolutely.
However, for whatever reason, the Lenovo site and offerings in HK is always pretty poor for customization and high pricing. What tends to happen here is that they release around 3-4 set configurations and sell them in local chain retail stores (cheaper than through Lenovo online) and that's your whack. It is frustrating sometimes when you see the coupons and config options available in the US, where we just don't get the same deals. I will be heading out today to see if the stores have them in stock or any news, but it may be too early.

Seems it will be available on the US site today too - it says "Available April 11th". Has that always been the case?

What's up with this practice of Lenovo NOT to allow customizations in most Asian markets? Same story here in India - though the X220 and its variants are nowhere to be seen on the Lenovo India website!!!! :(

Agreed, it is very frustrating and considering the things are made over here, I don't understand why.

The more I think about it, I really did think that US page said April 11th earlier this morning. Maybe I did make a mistake but if it is on the HK site now, surely it will be everywhere once the timezones catch up? I can't see HK getting it a week before elsewhere?

Also by look at the Japanese configuration, it is confirm that with the x220 if you want HD webcam you could only have 2x2 antenna.

Hi, I also had a chat with a Lenovo rep, here in the US. I asked when the X220 and the X220 Tablet will be available and he said that both will be available on the 19th and it will likey take 6-8 business days upon ordering.

I guess I will have my CC ready on the 19th :D.

If you gonna do financing is paying some kind of downpayment and if you have no job is the same thing as buying a new car, how are you going to pay the monthly payments if you don't have a job? They would probably do credit check and if you have some kind of income to be able to pay for the item. But why go through all that trouble if you said you have the money already just pay for it full.

So what are the SSD options for this thing? I know 7mm, what I mean is, what SSDs are 7mm tall that you know of? It's impossible to search by dimensions other than 1.8/2.5/3.5 sadly

The intel x-25m are 7mm and their 320 series.

    @thecrafter,

Are you going to get the x120e or their x220.

Will the X220 be available at other online retail stores besides Lenovo.com on the 19th (e.g. Amazon.com)?

My brother will be in America for a few days at the end of the month, I really hope I can order an X220t and have it delivered to his hotel before his return flight date.

If this will only be available on Lenovo.com initially, I see two potential issues that might prevent me from buying it: 1) Lenovo.com says they don't accept international credit cards, and 2) Even if get around that, the 8 - 9 days for processing might push delivery date beyond my "window of opportunity".

I still don't know. x120e shipped today but I had a chat with Lenovo and asked if they can waive the restocking and shipping fee if I wanted to return the x120e and get x220 instead and the agent said yes and gave me his details. Kinda going for x220 I think now.

Any other options other than Intel? They're really expansive compared to everyone else in the market

You could sent email to Provantage or CDW and ask them if their will have it in stock. They seem to be the two online retailer that stock up on Thinkpad quicker than Amazon.

The build quality is worse than the X series, worse performance (culv core processors), worse screen(compare to the IPS screen), and a glossy screen.

The only thing that make it better than the X series is the style, which of course is subjective.

I think I didn't expression myself accurately. What I meant was that the X series build quality are better than the E220s. I am not suggesting that the build quality of the X series are bad at all, I think that the X, T, W are some the best build laptop in the market.

Costcentral, Provantage, CDW and JR are your best bets. Look through tabook to see what models appeal to you. User GomJabbar preordered his from Costcentral and posted yesterday that he should be getting it by the end of this week. If you go for a pre-configured model check prices at all these places. For some reason who offers the lowest price varies model to model.

Another option is Lenovo Business Partners on ebay. They posted T420's for sale on the release date so I'd assume they have X220's in stock at this point are waiting for 3/19 to roll around like the rest of us.

One thing to be very aware of is that all the pre-configured models in tabook except Topseller ones (none of which offer IPS) look like they're much more expensive that what CTO pricing will likely be based on the X220 $899 base price and how much upgrades are for the X201 and T420.

The intel 320 series is probably the SSD that I will go for. The only SSD with sata III and 7mm appears to be the crucial. The intel 320 is a fast Sata II drive and given some of the SSD reliability data it is probably the best option in my opinion.

Interesting. In the US site, I noticed that for the x201 tablet, it says that it's available from resellers but not directly from Lenovo. Seems like the reseller channel is to clear inventory of what they already have.

I'm hoping for pre-order or just order option soon. I noticed that Lenovo had a 'sale' through April 11th and now that time has passed, I'm hoping the X220T will be available very soon....

Thought I share my latest chat with a Lenovo Rep. Here is the conversation thread:

You have been connected to _Brian M.
_Brian M: Thank you for choosing Lenovo chat service. My name is Brian and my rep ID is xxx. What can I help you with today?
[ME]: Hi, I am interested in the new X220 Tablet. My understanding is that it will be available starting April 19th. Is there an option to pre order?
    _Brian M: There is not.
[ME]: OK. Just to confirm that the x220T will be available on the 19th. Reason I ask is that the Lenovo site shows "Summer 2011"
_Brian M: No, the tablet won't be available on the 19th.
[ME]: When will the tablet be available?
_Brian M: I do not have a date yet.
[ME]: So only the notebook will be available on the 19th?
    _Brian M: Yes.
[ME]: Sigh. Was looking forward to the tablet. Thanks.
_Brian M: Not a problem, have a great day!

So, it would appear that the tablet will be release later. :(

PS - This was Lenovo.US, just in case someone wanted to know.
