I hope the ship date is sooner than 4/14 it says on the status page. I have to ship my T400 on Friday and this is a bad time of the year for me to be without my own machine.
-
I've noticed none of you guys have any docks/port reps included on your quotes. Do you just not use them or do you buy them later off ebay or something?
For myself, I can't imagine using an ultraporable without a port rep at my desk, especially with the dual 27" IPS screens in front of me
-
i'm planning to do a diy vidock but now kind of wondering if I should do the ultrabase
-
I wasn't planning on getting a dock till fall, but maybe I'll get that and the monitor now too. The machine itself ended up being cheaper than I expected and the docks are pretty cheap on ebay. I have no idea what to look for in an external monitor though.
-
anyone gettin the slice battery. honestly don't know how much I'll use it but it sounds really handy for travel
-
the power adaptor is compact and lighter than the slice. unless you know you wont be able to find a power outlet for more than 9 hours, i dont see the point in the slice as the 9 cell batt can already last 9 hrs or more if u use battery stretch
-

I just don't see myself ever using it. I haven't had a slice battery for all the years I've owned my laptop. This thing only lasts 3.5 hours (optimistic number). Ha, for me 8 hours with the 6 cell will seem pretty crazy.
On the other hand if I was doing a ton of traveling... maybe. But at around a third of what the laptop weighs, its some weight. If I'm traveling light, that extra pound might be something I'd leave home.
Edit: Also agree with afhstingray on that reasoning too. -
good points. I will pass on the slice but now just wondering about the ultrabase haha.. I'm selling my computer and using this as a desktop replacement/portable so the base would make things a lot better for connectivity.
-
for slice batteries, target market is vertical applications such as mobile salesforce, and scientific/field applications. -
If you think may need that kind of battery just get the 9-cell. The 6-cell will give me 8-hrs battery life which is more than enough for a few movies to Europe, then charge in the layover and ready for the next leg to Asia. And this is maybe once a year.
-
Just ordered this machine for 1044 + tax inc slice battery. Will buy 8gb ram separate. Ship date not until 5/16... Too long and can't wait

agreed, it dosent add thickness so using it is less fiddly, however, the 9 cell batt is also almost as heavy.
like i mentioned in my previous post, the slice is more for vertical applications, especially those which you cant power down halfway through to swap a battery. -

I'm going to be using this as my desktop too (replacing my current laptop). Personally I always just have my laptop on a Antec cooling pad. Linked up to my external mouse, keyboard and monitor. Along with some external speakers. I just consider that a dock. Of course it isn't as fast as a dock is, but really isn't slow. It keeps my laptop real nice and cool. Definitely key to keeping your laptop in good condition. Been running my current laptop everyday for 8 years without an issue.
I'm pretty paranoid about heat in my computers as my first ever laptop burned out a couple motherboards, heat syncs, fans, few other components. Probably just the computer... but now I just rock a cooling pad while I'm using it as my dt.
I don't think I've seen it before, but I would buy a x220 dock if it had a couple fans you could manually turn on/off. That would be very cool. -
Lenovo is great at keeping their laptops cool and happy. I don't think you should worry about the heat with the integrated graphic card.

I followed Vignesh's suggestion and contacted Mo (by luck he answered my chat session, I didn't request him or anything). He could not do 10% ontop of the student discount even though I mentioned he offered it to a friend.
my total from the Student site + coupon came to $768.64 and he could only lower it to $725 (all before taxes). I think I'll wait till they at least offer 7200RPM standard. 5200RPM.. who offers that nowdays? (ok maybe others do, not sure, but come on). x120e comes with 7200RPM standard now =/ I'd just get that and shop for an aftermarket but since these darn things use only 7mm there's no selection. Either all the 7mm regular HDs are discontinued on sites such as Amazon/Newegg or they cost as much as from Lenovo itself -
what's your config?
-
a new X220 for $768? thats good.... what are the specs??
-
Dell U2311h or any 23'' led/ccfl IPS for cheap.
-
Nothing special. Just the lowest config (i3, 2GB), Home Premium 64 and IPS. Keep in mind this isn't through the regular Lenovo website. It's through the student portal which offers built in 4.5% discount and also a 5% coupon. You could get it cheaper I suppose with one of the 10% off coupons floating around the web (sadly they don't work on the student portal, so can't combine that with 4.5%)
-
If you're having any trouble with getting the second discount, ask the rep to look up if there is a coupon using "Dealfinder." My rep did that, and found the extra 10% off academic and ecoupon price.

Definitely one reason I bought the 220 was the reviews saying how cool it ran. But past experience has a way of making you err on the side of caution. My other laptop had integrated graphics and it overheated like crazy. It was a dell... it could have just been garbage who knows. However, my current dell has been running perfect for 8 years. Win some lose some I guess hah. -
that's my monitor
Displayport too. doesn't come w/ the cable though
-
Hm, in the past I've been told that Lenovo can't use more than one coupon at a time
-
the monitor also acts as a usb hub so helps w/ connectivity for desktop replacement.. my old u2410 had audio out from hdmi/displayport in but doesn't seem like the u2311 has it
( might sell u2311 and buy u2410 if I am going to buy ultrabase anyway.. Then I would only have to plug in displayport and ethernet if I do not want to use wireless for some reason.
-
The 250gb 5400rpm as base standard is not good. If I remember Lenovo mentioned before that it will come 320gb 7200rpm standard.
I mean $70 bucks to just upgrade to 320gb? -
Are there any Aussie's on here looking at buying the X220? I'm interested but this will be my first Lenovo laptop, so I'm wondering if Australia's only option is from the official site?
Checking the pricing today at Lenovo Australia | laptop computers | ThinkPad X Series | X220 reveals a... 'gap' if you will, between $AUS pricing and $US pricing that's a lot larger than I thought it would be. -
Holy crap how did you get this?
-
-
Question: is there a built in discount on the X220 right now before all the EPP/Student/eCoupon discounts?
If not, I think I'll wait until Memorial Day to see if Lenovo has any big sales. -
The x220 is alot cheaper than I thought it would be right out of the gate. For an IPS screen-equipped laptop, it's a steal of a deal.
-
I'm wondering what the difference is from what I had earlier from lenovo.com/student with 5% discount.
$926 for i5-2520, W7 home, IPS, 250gb hdd, no fingerprint, webcam, 2gb ram, intel 6205, 9cell battery, 1year warranty is really nice price
So basically it wasn't a mind blowing discount after all that work? I feel bad for you man. -
Except that he got a $50 upgrade, a $20 upgrade and $10 downgrade for cheaper than you
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Hey! I need a sleeve for this. What's a good cheap sleeve. Kind of hard to find one's for 12.5" laptops. I would like one like this which I had for my Acer 3810T.
-
Argh so I forgot my password and their reset seems to be screwy, so I can't access the cart I saved from yesterday, but it seems like today they cut the student discount by a good bit
I'll wait till I can get ~15% off again to buy, that seems like the most they'll cut off the price. Should've ordered yesterday darn.
-
I'm still seeing 10% discount + 5% coupon for the academic site. Is it different for each school?
-
finally ordered.. now the wait =P
-
Oh wait I might have made a mistake...I just added the base X220 without taking off win7 pro, while yesterday I took it off and added webcam and 9 cell. That would knock the extra 9 dollars off. My bad!
However that person who got it to 815 after bluetooth and intel whatever internet upgrade...how did he get that? Bluetooth is an 18 dollar option, take off 5% and that's still 17.1...few dollars difference, but hey money is money! Is this the 0.5% difference that someone claimed? -
It is definitely a 7mm SSD with a spacer for 9.5mm, confirmed by the 300gb sitting here on my desk waiting to go inside a new laptop
It also comes in 600gb for "only" a cool grand.
I hope they fix the x220T CTO page before my topseller preorder becomes an order, I'd like to go with whichever is a better deal overall. -
Thanks for the link. Prices are insanely expensive on the Lenovo AUS site.
-
Definitely wasn't. About 5% cheaper (~20% total discount) than what's available through the student site+5% coupon, and we are all able to order through whatever reps we want to get it. Bust but not total bust.
I don't think these prices are going to last too long and are only going to higher and stay there. 15-20% off an already competitively priced product is crazy. -
got all these configured for 1.1 grand after discounts. i think its a pretty good deal.

dang, ordered this afternoon and just realized my estimated ship date is 5/16...
-
At least we tried
Definitely cheaper than what I was expecting to pay from reviews and the initial price on the main lenovo site.. I hope prices get higher lol. I don't really NEED the laptop until next fall but who knows what will happen to discounts and I can sell my computer now.
Ya pretty far away. right during my finals week.. it is just an estimate however. I hope it comes faster. I just ordered an hour ago and estimated shipping is 5/13 -
I hope everyone on the list got/read my last email and got 10% off student/etc pricing instead of only 5%. It was another free $50.
-
Try calling them, they will most likely still give the discount.

$893 after taxes. Much <3 for vinuneuro lol. Just wondering if I should call back tomorrow though since I completely forgot about shipping and most likely didnt get the quicker shipping option. -
For the people who have such cheap prices after sales tax, do you live in no tax states?
-
What is the difference between the screens on the x220 tablet:
Multi
OR
Outdoor
Which one is better? -
Depends on what you're looking for. Neither is "better".
The outdoor screen has anti-reflective/anti-glare layers, as well as a Gorilla Glass exterior. It is also an IPS screen. This screen however only supports the active digitizer (pen) input. I repeat. There is NO TOUCH. You can move your fingers all you want across the screen and NOTHING will happen.
The multitouch screen doesn't have the gorilla glass exterior, and its been labeled by lenovo as "Infinity Glass". It supports BOTH touch (finger) and active digitizer (pen) input. It doesn't have the same anti-glare and anti-reflectivity layers that the outdoor screen has. This screen too is an IPS display.
There has been discussion regarding whether the multitouch sensor would add grain to the screen, however since these laptops haven't been shipped out, there isn't alot of information about that. There are several youtube videos of the various reviewers going over their x220t units (however I believe most of these guys received the multitouch screen as opposed to the outdoor screen).
