Yea, the older slower version is always better...

It's business school...
-
Just got a little info from a rep in chat:
The 128gb SSD is made by Samsung and has "lower benchmark scores" and does not support TRIM. He recommended the Intel SSD. -
My rep explained that you'll likely do better with an individual discount from the rep - not to mention that you can have it shipped directly to you. Order quantities greater than 5 have to go through volume sales, whereas the rep himself/herself has flexibility for smaller-scale orders.
PM or e-mail (preferred, use link in my sig) if you want my rep's info. -
Also, I don't know if anyone has posted this but you can get 10% off with coupon code LOGICBUY10

Ha, I'm still on XP. I really don't enjoy vista. I am looking forward to the 7 change though, after using a buddies. Feels more like xp than vista... to me at least. -
If it is a business school, there are only a couple of class and couple of topic that really need the tablet function for note taking i.e. statistic. Most of homework and project will be done on excel and word.
-
My rep told me he'll give me "his best discount" and all he could do was $10 cheaper than the student discount (around 4.5%) combined with the 5% coupon on the student website as well. So 10% sounds about right. Not even worth trying to convince them to give you a discount
-
Vista and Windows 7 are so similar to call them different is in some way odd. Vista with SP2 runs quite well. There is a couple of things that I can do in Vista and Linux, that I cannot in Windows 7, which is why I prefer them.
-
What's the best deal anyone has found so far? Please post config and price and I'll try to beat it.
-
i thought that was forbidden on these forums. better off taking the pricing to the slickdeals thread.
-
If it is forbidden, I apologize for asking -- I didn't know.
-
Anyways I was able to price this through my company's EPP program, you should be able to do as well with a rep:
-
So you are trying to save and even sacrifice the IPS display for $50 less?
-
Actually I'd love to know this as well. Is the Gorilla glass just an option on top of the multi-touch panel or are they completely different?
Do you lose multi-touch and gain additional protection by choosing the gorilla glass or do you just gain the additional toughness?
-
I'm sorry, that was hasty of me.

Looks like the tablet comes with a minimum of 4GB RAM. Would I be able to order it with the single-DIMM 4GB option, and then buy a second 4GB DIMM from NewEgg? Or would I need to buy 2 matching DIMMs from NewEgg to get 8GB and get rid of what came with the tablet completely? I've always hated buying RAM - I can never remember how closely everything needs to match.
Are "DDR3" and "1333MHz" really the only specs I have to worry about? What about parity? -
How is i5-2410/IPS/Webcam/BT/9 Cell/Intel Wlan for $815 + tax? Is this a good deal?
-
According to tabook,
BOTH multi and outdoor screens support the pen digitizer option.
For some reason, only the outdoor screen comes with the gorilla glass top panel, and the outdoor screen does not support ANY form of touch at all. (Only pen).
The multitouch screen supports both PEN AND TOUCH, but does not have the gorilla glass. -
I got some useful replies to that question, and also found more info in the tabook.
Looks like both screen types have the digitizer built-in and come with the pen. But only the "multi-touch" actually has touch capability. They refer to it as "five-finger gesture" (hence the multi) but it's the only reference to touch at all. The "outdoor" doesn't have the multi-touch but adds the Gorilla glass and several anti-reflectivity layers.
Personally that lands me on the multi-touch. In a perfect world I'd like Gorilla glass on top of that, but I don't plan on being outdoors with it enough that all the anti-glare would be really useful, so I don't think I'm missing too much. -
That's a great deal.
-
Has anyone found out if the X220 takes a reg 9.5mm sata drive or will fit one or are we stuck with those 7mm ones.
thx
ym -
ahh thanks. On the canadian site it doesn't mention USB3 on the i7 option. Wonder if I need to call a rep to confirm that it applies here as well.
-
The latter.
-
That is most just plain dumb. darn it. is the T420 limited in the same fashion?
-
I feel as if this thread has been cannibalized by clueless consumers asking questions better fit for BestBuy salesmen.
I propose a written test that emphasizes self research which members must pass in order to complete forum registration :^) -
I agree. I really wanted to install an Intel 510 SSD in the X220, but it's 9.5mm sadly won't fit.
-
No, T420 takes 9.5mm drives. It's the price you pay for the extra mobility I guess.
-
Bummer, I guess I'd choose the multi-touch as well then. Previous tablets didn't have the gorilla glass, and I guess their panels held up well enough.
-
Agree. New posters please READ THROUGH THIS THREAD. (or at least perform a search through it.. many of the questions that are being asked now have been asked countless times.. not only in this forum but in this very thread itself.) If the answer you're getting isn't what you want, REPHRASE the question. Asking the same questions over and over will not get you any different answers.

i7 2620 is lower in ranking/pts than the i5 2410/2540 Interesting....
PassMark CPU Lookup -
Has anyone received a phone call from the group buy yet? What's the discount?
-
Passmark's acting weird w/ the 2nd gen SB chips. i5 2520m gets 1700+ points while the i5 2540m gets double that.
-
Vignesh, who is leading the group-buy, makes contact with the group via personal email.
He mentioned having an exam on Friday and not wanting to have his inbox flooded with vague questions, as is happening in this thread, so please give him some time.
If you are part of the group-buy, wait for words from Vignesh both here and via email.
If you are not part of the group-buy, but wish to be, then please do not flood the thread with chaff.
Instead look for Vignesh's instructions/contact info within this thread. -
what's powering the search behind the forum software? it doesn't work that well. i tried the search keyword "x220" and got nothing but x200 posts.

Group deal is dead, check your email's on how to proceed.
-
I am on Vignesh's email distro for the group-buy and I've not been contacted regarding any cancellation.
If what you are saying is correct, please cite Vignesh's email here in the thread. -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
I deleted it.
In the email he will tell you how to get a deal with the rep he and I used.
-
I sent two mass emails since the gmail server wouldn't let me send to 125 people at a time. You were probably in the second. Let me know if you still don't have it.
There was info in it on how to get more discount than the student pricing+5% coupon. -
I'm on the email distro also, and just got the email that the group buy is dead. I'm wondering why the rep was unable to push the group buy through, given that it's been successful in the past? Would it be helpful to talk to the rep that did the last group buy to see if we can move forward?
-
Just sent the email to the 2nd batch of recipients again. If anyone who was originally on the list didn't get it, send me an email.
-
