Hm...I read on "mobiletechreview" site which states that the 6 cell + slice = 23 hours. The 9 cells would give 15 hours. I think you're right on the weight. That is something to think about.

    I got some where:

    Weight:

    * 3.5 pounds with 6-cell battery
    * 4.875 pounds with 6-cell battery and optional external battery slice

I can't imagine how light it would be with 3.5lbs. Never felt one that light. I am working on a notebook that is 4.4 lbs. I think it's not too bad but can be a bit heavy on the shower when travel. 3.5 lbs must be a dream.

Damn it, why is it so hard to decide. :D

I selected Win 7 Pro and that does not give 2GB option. I guess I have to go with Win Home edition instead.

Thank you all for your feedbacks.

I was surprised how light my new 6-cell X220 feels in comparison to my 14.1" T42.

I guess I am just being illogical with the selling point of the 23 hours battery life. Most of the time, we would find outlet access anyway. Hehe...I need to be more practical.

I think sodimm ddr3 sticks are rated to a maximum of 1.5 watts per stick.
ddr3 modules. The gain dual channel provides is marginal and to all but the extreme users unnoticeable. But then again the power consumption from one stick to two is also marginal. That's why I don't weigh wattage and performance - at least not in non-gaming notebooks. I weigh just $/gb, get how much you want at the price you want and it will probably be more than sufficient.

You might save 15 or 20 minutes of battery life by going with one stick... you might get a 1-5% performance increase (that's being generous on the high side) if you go with two. Makes no difference with the battery life of these laptops and unless you are truly hitting up some ram-intensive work, you won't notice a difference in speed either.

Hey All, price isn't an issue, Trying to decide between i72620M vs i5-2540M. Is there a difference in battery performance? If not I'm probably going to get the i7. I read a few post that the i7 is sometimes slower? Can someone explain?

The i7 is a waste of money unless you want usb 3.0. The i5-2520M is the best value. And there is no big major difference in power usage between any of the processors, be it i3 or i7. The i7 should always be the fastest since it has the highest clock speeds and the extra mb of L3 cache.

I just ordered from a rep and got 20% off the lenovo.com sales price, plus free sleeve and lojack. I recommend that people contact the rep below. You might have to leave a voicemail and wait for him to call you back.

Yeah he's a very cool guy :) However in my case he couldn't offer 20%. He strictly told me that he cannot lower a price below $725 as well. Don't know if he was BSing and just didn't like me, but that's what he said.

Anyway I got a REALLY good deal. $672 before tax, $714 after tax for lowest x220 config (but with Premium HD/IPS display upgrade) :) It's actually better than Lenovo's actual employee pricing! And my rep also upgraded me to free 2-3 days shipping

Per GB. The 1GB DDR2 sticks I use, according to the manufacturer, use about half the wattage (0.8w) of the 2GB stick (1.5w), so the power consumption was not related to number of sticks, but the RAM on the stick itself.

A 1-2W reduction on my X61t that uses 11W idle and 16W active, for me, is significant. I don't run eclipse, VM's, etc. For my usage (web, Office, music), I rarely went over 1GB memory used. So I pulled it.

Some tablet makers (i.e. EXOPC) were intentionally not offerring 4GB as a factory option because of power consumpton (and not cost). It made sense to me.

Pulled the trigger yesterday on a typical configured X220. Used a female sales rep and a student discount for a total of 16% off website config price. Estimated ship date is 5/16 and that is without bluetooth. I am curious what people will be using their bluetooth for. I didn't get it, but now I'm thinking I should. However, I don't do Skype and don't plan on using a wireless mouse.

If anyone is looking to get rid of their 2Gb ram stick for upgrading purposes, I will buy it, because I want to upgrade my 2G to 4G ( I am assuming I can just snap in another stick to do a 2+2 config?). Email me at lectrolink at aol.

There should be no difference in battery life. For 1st gen i5 vs i7, there was no power consumption difference when I tried a i7-620m in sony z.

Notebookcheck.com screwed something during their test, which shows dual core i7 was consuming more power compared to i5. I don't trust notebookcheck any more.

Ordered a pretty basic X220 with a 15% discount + 12% x220 coupon for a combined 25.2% off. I opted for the 3-year warranty extension... not sure if I needed it, but the 2-year was too expensive and I wanted something beyond 1 year haha.

Wasn't planning on getting a new laptop so soon, but the discount expiring tomorrow and the IPS pushed me over the edge haha. Screen quality is the most important thing to me in a laptop.

Now I just need to get a Mini Dock :-(.

If money isn't an issue, get the i7. It seems a little overpriced, but I got it because I wanted the USB 3.0 (which I may never use, just like the web cam :)

You won't see a difference in power drain with the i7 unless you step up to a quad core.

I used to feel the same way, but as it happened I got the ":useless": bluettooth on my Asus 901 and found it was useful -- I forget what for.

But it convinced me to get bluetooth again, and now it's very useful as I got bluettooth speakers (Create S2 Inspire). While they aren't super loud, the bluettooth is very convenient, especially with a laptop. (Admittedly, they come with a bluettooth usb dongle, and that allows controlling the volume better than native bluettooth does.)

Oh, and I got an Apple Magic Touchpad (which is blue tooth only) because my Acer's trackpad is so terribly bad. That's actually what's impelling me to get an X220 -- the comically bad ALPS touchpad.

Thanks Chstout and HP, that's what I needed to know. Guess I'll pick up the i7 then and get a 160 SSD in there.

I noticed not a lot of people are getting the 9 cell battery upgrade even though it's only $10 more. I'm really tempted but hate to have the battery sticking out the back.

Might pick up the slice battery as it would be great for weekend camping. Will wait for it to be on sale though. $179 is too much for a battery right now.

Bluetooth is very useful especially when you take pics from your bt enabled phone or you got files you want to transfer from smartphone to computer via bluetooth w/o having to plug in a wire etc...

Another thing is the use of bluetooth wireless mouse, I know that you can use an RF Nano receiver but it is nice to free up a usb port.

Both the i5 and i7 CPUs are available for ordering on the X220T in US and Canada.

However, prefconfig'd unit from Costcentral is only $1275, which is cheaper than ordering from Lenovo. How strange

    Lenovo ThinkPad X220 Tablet 4296 (42962WU) - Laptops / Notebooks

The same configuration is $1397 with the 10% coupon off the Student website. That's over $100 more and only 1 year warranty (preconfig has 3 years warranty)

Any chance there will be a better coupon? Otherwise might as well order the preconfigured model.

Also does anyone know if the Warranty is international? I live in Canada but the US price is a lot better. Will the warranty be valid in Canada as well?

After looking at those prices for x220t, I'm glad that I won't be canceling my pre-order now. I was told my order's ETA date is 4/29.

I wanna see more x220t reviews, but so far, only trustedreview has them. I'm particulary interested in the battery life. I read the x220 review again from notebookreview.com and saw it got over 8 hours of internet. I hope x220t is not far off from those numbers.

I had a problem with the Apple Magic Trackpad; it would periodically stop responding. Going into the bluetooth settings and UNchecking "allow the computer to sleep this device" fixed that.

Apparently bluetooth was being put to sleep after a much shorter period of non-use than I expected. I only discovered this after I was using the bluetooth trackpad and the bluetooth speakers simultaneously: playing a song would unfreeze the mouse.

    Other than that, no problem.

The weird thing is I could have sworn I saw the slice as an accessory option the other day - I even remember the cost being different between the standard and student sites. But you're right, it's gone now. I wouldn't mind so much if the 9-cell battery was on there. I need a long-battery option for an upcoming trip.

So this deal at CostCentral looks pretty good:

    Lenovo ThinkPad X220 Tablet 4296 (42962YU) - Laptops / Notebooks

But I'm able to beat it by $100 by using the student site, a coupon, and downgrading the hard drive (which I'll be replacing anyway).

Question for those more familiar with Lenovo though. The service and support options on CostCentral are much cheaper than those on Lenovo's site. For example, CC has "Lenovo ThinkPlus Priority Support with ThinkPad Protection - 3 years - on-site" for 109.29, while Lenovo wants 269 for "3Yr Priority Onsite + 3Yr ThinkPad Protection". And CC seems to list them as separate items - I can add one to my cart without adding a laptop.

So is it possible to order the machine from Lenovo, and then order the service plan from CostCentral? If so, are the two plans I mentioned above approximately equivalent? The naming isn't very consistent even within a given site.

So close to finally getting this thing ordered. Arrggh.

Not sure if CC would cover a laptop you ordered directly from Lenovo. But you can order separate warranty services from Lenovo, even if the configuration page likes to group them together. Just call up Lenovo and tell them which warranty you want specifically.

I think the CC warranty would cover a laptop bought from lenovo.com. The only reason I am saying that is that they specify which models or types are covered. For example, if you have a CTO X220, then the type# is 4286. Just search for X220 4286 and you will find a lot of choices. Not all warranties cover 4286.

I bought a 4yr depot+ADP for $313 from lenovo, and it sells for $278 on CC. :( Anyway, i'd rather pay the 12% difference any be assured that my machine is 100% covered.

I'm getting "The configuration is invalid" while trying to shop for an x220 i5 @ lenovo. Is it broken or is it me? Tried different configs and entries...

Not sure if it's the same system, but a was on the phone with a specialist, and his system was down. For such a great product, seems like Lenovos order fullfillment and support are crummy. I placed an order for a t420s which was scheduled to ship on 5/3. I cancelled it this past Tuesday. Noticed the order was still in process yesterday, so called again yesterday and the lady verified it was in fact cancelled, but she couldn't provide me any reference or cancellation number. Today I get an e-mail saying it shipped. Wonderful. I hope I don't have to pay return shipping on this.

FYI, I checked with CostCentral sales and they say it's doable:

Depending on the plan it's much cheaper, and they have service combinations / lengths lenovo.com doesn't show, so it's worth thinking about. Definitely the route I'm going.

Haha, I'm sure if they get anything at all right, it'll be the charge. I see a pre auth only so far, but I'm sure it's coming.

BE WARNED These plans have specific models that they apply to. For example: Lenovo ThinkPlus Priority Support with ThinkPad Protection (0A34478) - Systems is $109.99 for an upgrade to 3 year priority support with TPP. HOWEVER, don't expect to be able to tack that onto any laptop being sold by Lenovo right now, because for the X220 series, that only applies to certain models (such as the x220t 4296 topseller line, which by default comes with a 3 year depot warranty, so its only $109 because youre only adding TPP to the 3 years, as opposed to upgrading your warranty from a 1 year depot to a 3 year w/ TPP).

EDIT: Where I was going with this post was, the only models of Thinkpads that you can configure through their website is their 4294 model (at least in the tablet case, don't know the numbers off the top of my head for the non-tablet), whereas this warranty only applies to the non-CTO models.. such as the ones that you can buy directly through the costcentral website.

Is getting the priority support over the regular onsite support worth it? I should add that the regular onsite + thinkpad protection is discounted for students, but the priority onsite is not, which is why I'm asking. It's normally only a $10 difference, but for students its a $50 difference
