Well, I'll be darned. I had ordered the X220T and the slice battery on Friday early morning (PST) as separate transactions. The ETA for the X220T was 6/2 and the slice battery was 6/3. Both, direct from Lenovo.

To my surprise, I received an email from Lenovo saying that the slice battery has been shipped! So, perhaps there is some hope that the X220T will be shipped way before 6/2.

The next person who posts a sales rep's name and id in the forum will be banned permanently. The Forum Rules are very clear about this.

You just didn't understand the meaning of "rep". I see where you got confused. In the context you quoted, rep means reputation. i.e reputation points. Some system I don't see the point of, where if you have a lot of "rep" that's supposed to mean you are helpful. If you look under your name you would see "Posts: 1" and "Rep Power: 0" If someone was helpful, you can give them "rep". So they don't want people begging for people to give them reputation points for nothing.

I agree though, that part should be renamed "reputation", at least attempt to look professional instead of using internet-speak which the majority of Thinkpad users probably are not familiar with.

It's really beside the point what that particular phrase means.

The point is: contrary to JaneL's assertion, there is nothing in the rules that states that either a representative's name or ID is forbidden. The rules speak only to "private information" and include examples, which include neither of these.

If the forum rules are intended to prohibit disclosure of this information, fine. But for a bannable offense, rules should be clear, and this one is not.

It seems pretty clear to me with the important word being any. Must we spell out all possibilities? I think a little common sense would go a long way here.

It seems pretty clear to me, on the other hand, that a name or a rep id does not fall into the category of persons private information clearly. What is private about the sales representative name? An e-mail address, a phone - yes. But name?

I also think it should be mentioned clearly in the rules, if it is a bannable offense.

Sorry. This n00bie skimmed through the rules too fast and missed that one! It's entirely understandable in this context that a sales rep could be overwhelmed if phone number's, e-mail, etc was posted on a popular public forum. No one should post this kind of information without permission.

    Back on topic.

I still haven't decided whether the few times I travel with a notebook weighs heavier than screen size and resolution. X220 (and have to use external monitors at home), or W520 (So I can have fun maxing it out! Then travel with the old clunker so I don't worry about it!)

they dont realise the bottleneck is the 50yr old technology in the little mechanical spinning HDD.

Thing is, a reps name is not private information. My name is private, I don't tell it to anyone I don't know. But a salesman name is freely given to everyone by means of business cards, contact info, etc. If it was private, all you'd get is an ID number or something to keep it private.

It's their business to be known. Is "Bill Gates" or "George Washington" also private information and banable if I mention his name?

Also in that rule it doesn't mention names. It mentions email, phone and address.

There isn't much to debate..the rule says not to post private information. These reps' contact info isn't private in the least. This heavy-handed moderation on the other hand..

Not only that, they are denying fellow Thinkpad users large discounts, AND denying the Lenovo employees from commission. And for what? Upholding a rule that does not apply to this situation to begin with.

But.. of course you're going to uphold this because someone is too stuck up to admit they are wrong (not pointing any fingers *whistle*)

This is my lasts say on this subject: a salesman name is not private, as it is freely available and given out by Lenovo themselves. When you start a chat or call them up, what is the first thing they say? Their name.

From the inception of the modern web I was convinced moderation is to uphold rules and not personal beliefs. Is that not the case anymore? Prohibiting a debate on a subject that clearly does not stem directly from the rules given seems so to me. Saddened to see that here.

Technically speaking, now asking the very valid and useful question Who from the sales dept. could you recommend to proceed with buying a Lenovo notebook smoothly? becomes automatically prohibited here by that rule. Seriously, where are we supposed to ask that kind of question, if not on the public board?

If you insist a public name of a sale representative given out by Lenovo and the sales dept. freely is private... well, I do not intend to argue. You are the moderator after all, not me.

I am not going to say a single word more about this subject.

I have moderated the IGN forums for a decade now, and I know what these guys do can be tough work indeed.

Having said that, though it means absolutely nothing to me personally, I do find this a pretty ridiculous complaint. Certainly there is nothing wrong with sharing sales rep info on a forum dedicated to help with picking/purchasing/maintaining that very product.

I am willing to bet that this decision is investigated further and reversed.

I guess this is more of a personal preference, but although I already made the decision on the 6-cell battery, what do you guys think of the 9-cell? Originally I was going to pull the trigger on it, but then I noticed that not only did it protrude about a full inch from the back of the laptop, it wasn't really symmetrically fitted either.

That being said, as a college student who is studying abroad next semester, would 7+ hours from the 6-cell battery a realistic thing? Would it be a good idea to get a spare battery (maybe the 4-cell)?

Reviewers have been getting 7.5 - 8hrs from the 6 cell w/ moderate browsing tests. If you really want the extra battery life, the 9 cell would be a much better and cheaper option than buying an additional 4 cell.

4 cell and 6 cell take the same amount of space and are pretty close in price. If your going to get another spare battery and don't want the protruding 9 cell, might as well get another 6 cell.

That's very true. I'd really have to work at it to use all that computing power without getting bogged down by the HDD. I was figuring on at least adding the mSata drive later, if not a regular SSD.

How to justify a quad core W520? Perhaps do some Sonnet or Ansoft HFSS RF Simulation (aka CAD) work if I can figure out how to snag an inexpensive license - those apps eat up CPU, RAM, and like OpenGL graphics.

But realistically, as I'm looking for a home use notebook I can get along just fine with a non-workstation machine. Maybe even an X220 w/IPS, but the low display resolution is likely to drive me batty for an everyday machine unless I use an external monitor.

But I've certainly been pricing out both machines. I actually would like BOTH but that seems a little too much!

I ordered two from a rep a few days ago for two lucky folks at our company and just found out about this crazy 15% coupon thing. Now I'm thinking of buying one for personal use.

How does $783 + tax sounds for 2520m/IPS/9 Cell/BT/Intel 6230? Is this the lowest one can get to?

Intel 6230? Do you mean 6300 (or perhaps 6250 WWAN)?

So far I've gotten down to $989 for 2520m/pro64bit/IPS/4GB/320GB/fingerprint/HDcam/BT/6205/6cell

I think you're doing quite well - I seem get to $821 with your config.

Hm. So what is the bluetooth option on these laptops then? Is the bluetooth a seperate module? Or do they ship it out with the 6230 instead (which is basically a 6205 with bluetooth)?

Well, to be precise, they don't take up exact same amount of space. 6 cell rises the bottom by little. The 4 cell is completely flat with the laptop's bottom.
After tearing up my 8 cell battery from x61t (4 square cells + 4 cylindrical cells), I'm guessing the 4 cell battery for x220 are configured with 4 square shaped cells, which are probably more expensive than the cylindrical ones.

Anyways, I think it's a hard decision to make choosing between 6cell and 9cell. The 9 cell will definitely last longer speaking of battery life time perspective (x years of usage) since you will be charging/discharging less frequent than the 6 cell would have. Also using a higher capacity battery will drain the battery slower from each cell, and you will get longer battery time. Faster drain means less efficiency.

Nope. 4 cell is totally flushed, 6 cell props up the back ever so slightly, 9 cell sticks out from the back. I too am considering between 6 cell and 9 cell. Portability vs weight. Hmm....

The coupon 15 percent LENOVOVIP is no longer working for lenovo.com/students which gives an entry 5 percent.

Do you know another coupon or a good represantative I can contact who will give a good discount for the x220? You could write about this in this thread or pm me. That would be great!

Is it possible to buy the four cell battery right now from the lenovo store? I have seen the six cell battery as standard, and for an additional 9 USD I can replace it with the nine cell battery. I would prefer buying both the four and the nine cell battery.

I too am stuck with this. The x220 with 9 cell weighs about 3.6 lbs and with the 6 cell about 3.2-3.3 lbs. The 9 cell also extends out a full inch. On the other hand, the 9 cell lasts considerably longer, will probably not degrade as fast as the 6 cell. The 15 hour battery life sounds amazing and would be very useful for someone like me who spends a good 8-10 hours around campus moving around and working. Ugh

I wonder if 3.6 is that much more than 3.2-3.3.

Can anyone post pics of the x220 with a 9 cell? I'd like to see how big it really looks.

    Thanks,

It's not, you quickly forget. I was using my T42 with 6-cell and then swapped for 9-cell. After one day of use I forgot I changed the battery. If you work a lot without AC, jump on with the 9-cell and feel free around the campus :)

Unless, of course, the looks frighten you. I wouldn't mind personally.

forced to select either 6 or 9 cell.

in addition to your 6 or 9, go to 'Power Accessories' and there is an option for a 4 cell ThinkPad Battery 29 at US$129 and a delay of 4 weeks. doesnt sound like a good option.

I had a T61 with the 6-cell (which stuck out on the T61 like the 9-cell does on the X220) and the only thing that bugged me about it was that it made the laptop somewhat unbalanced.

On the plus side the protruding battery makes the power jack very easy to find by feel (since it's right next to where the battery stops protruding). On my current T400 (which has the 4-cell) it takes a little more effort.

It may have just expired. You can contact anyone in the sales department and ask them, but I'm not allowed to say who I worked with according to the forum rules

If you generated a quote over the weekend and contact a salesperson, it may still work. That's what I'm gonna try to do :\

Nope I didn't. I just configured it online and saved my cart with the discounted price. Darn. And they even raised the prices.

Even for the sake of reviewing the x220, I would NEVER consider pouring water on the keyboard like that...insane. o.o

Why? It happens. Beer is worse than water :) And ThinkPads withstand that quite easily. That's exactly why I buy them.

They claim they have spill ports, so testing them is something I am glad someone did.
