Yeah mellowspace, I figured it out, and went there. I managed to get it to $996 (before taxes, which'll be $70 for nj and $90 for ny) for this config: i5-2510M, IPS, 250GB HDD, 4GB, Camera, Fingerprint Reader, 9 cell battery, Centrino WiFi, and 3yr warranty. I figure if I step down to the i3, I can save even more, but I'm not sure that would be wise.
Does anyone have the i3 model and can comment on the speed difference and whether it's worth the extra $85 for the i5?
-
-
Ah. The i5 is a quad-core, and has some nice virtualization features that are missing from the i3. The i3 also apparently uses HT, which is disabled on the i5.
Core i3 vs. Core i5: Differences Between Intel's i3 and i5 Processors -
"Major difference of the Core i5-2410M from i5-25xx series is the operating frequency and support for advanced (Vpro) features. The 2410M runs at 2.3 GHz, which is 200 MHz lower than the i5-2520M model, and also has a few hundred MHz lower Turbo Boost frequency. A few advanced technologies, AES instructions, Trusted Execution and Virtualization VT-d, were stripped from this part. Remaining processor features are similar to Core i5-25xx SKUs: support for AVX instructions and HyperThreading, 3 MB level 3 cache, and 35 Watt Thermal Design Power.
At this time, Core i3-2310M is the only consumer Sandy Bridge CPU from Core i3 family. The processor is clocked 200 MHz lower than the Intel i3-2410M, and it lacks Turbo Boost technology. In all other aspects this model is identical to Core i3-2410M." I guess they meant i5 2410m at the end of that quote.
I'm in NYC by the way and taxes here are super high. On my config, the taxes came out to $80, but I decided to ship it to a friend in NH to save the taxes. NH has no sales tax.
Good that you finally got the better deal. -
Yep, I'm in NYC as well. Wish I knew someone in NH
Usually the ship to NJ trick works...and that way I'm still saving around $20, which is not nothing.
I checked wikipedia and you're right, it is a dual core; that article was talking about desktop processors. The main difference beside clock speed is lack of turbo boost and virtualization support. Still not sure if that's worthy $85, but the way I see it, going with the cheapest i5 is already skimping on the CPU. Grr...they charge too much for things that should be standard (Intel Wireless, Camera, Fingerprint, Bluetooth...it adds up) -
Guys, may I ask one question. What is the different between x220i and x220? Is it the processor or is there anything else?
Thanks! -
X220 = i5/i7 -
Woot! X220t SHIPPED!!! Got a tracking number on the IBM tracking page. Tracking number doesn't actually exist in the UPS system, but the fact that its showing a number is something. Ironically, its marked as "Partially shipped," with the "configured system" shipped, and the "Recycling fee" marked as scheduled to ship 5/17. (How do you ship a recycling fee.l..?) Also Google IO today and got a Galaxy Tab 10.1. Just when I thought my day couldn't get any better my laptop ships
*smug*

So if I want IPS screen I need to upgrade? -
Plus there's really no reason to spend big bucks when ivy bridge is just around the corner. -
I would agree unless you push the CPU frequently, the better CPU will offer you little. You can get the IPS with the i3 CPU if you configure it yourself. I did so myself.
-
Just received my x220 (i7/IPS/320Gb, etc). Ordered on 4 May, received in the UK on 11 May - pretty quick turnaround of 7 days (5 business days). Box says it was manufactured on 6 May, 2 days after submitting web order.

Mine FINALLY shipped. Word from the rep was that the part delaying the order (and I'm actually quite sure this was the case as it was removed from my order to get it to ship) was the SLICE BATTERY. So if anyone's still having issues with theirs, you may want to call and speak with someone about this possibility.
All in all:
i7-2620M
IPS
2 GB
320 7,200 RPM HDD
Fingerprint reader
Bluetooth 3.0
Intel 6205 Wireless
Webcam
6-cell
$1,175.77 + tax
Also, I should get another ~$50 credit now that it's shipped according to the rep to help with a price match.
The slice battery is expected to ship much later and is going to be on a separate order. -

My x220 is stuck in Louisville at the moment. I assumed I'll get an estimated delivery once it clears customs.
Looking around online, there are a lot of people who have had Lenovo items stuck or lost in Louisville. Hopefully they've worked out some of the kinks. -
*sigh* I hate waiting. -
another week passes yet NO NEWS WHATSOEVER about the availability of the tablets. Starting to lose patience.
Congratulations: A storybook paper launch!
10 weeks since it was announced now!
I do want it but, if I can't get it within the next four weeks I'll have to look elsewhere! I need a new Laptop for business trips in july! -

uggg ups lost my shipping label that had my address. now my choices are drive to them and pick it up or wait till tommorow.
-
my x220 arrived at Louisville and stayed there since yesterday. And my estimated deliverey date (this Thursday) disappeared.
-
Ordered X220(I7, IPS, 4GB, 128SSD, Bluetooth, Webcam, 9cell) on 05/09 with estimated ship date 05/25. There has been no charge on my credit card till today. Anyone knows if they started building this or waiting to verify $ on my card? Thanks
-
BTW, not to make you jealous or anything, but when I ordered my X220 on 4/24 I placed a separate order on the accessory site for the slice because it was no longer offered as part of the CTO process. It shipped the next day and I've had it on my desk for a week and a half. I would far rather have the reverse though: laptop in hand and waiting on the slice.

Darn, got an email from Lenovo customer support expecting good news. Was disappointed:
Thank you for your Lenovo Thinkpad order.
Unfortunately due to overwhelming demand for our
Thinkpad products, we are experiencing delays in
processing your shipment. As a result, your order has
been delayed while we process this backlog.
You may be receiving another email notifying you of this
delay with a link to check the status of your order.
Please continue to monitor this site, as we are updating all
shipment statuses with new shipment dates.

Just called UPS. Even though the online status says that it is still in Louisville, the rep told me that their other systems have shown that it has cleared customs and is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Huzzah!
-
Little bit confused now, UPS said there is exception and then expected?
what does internal activity mean?

ordered on 05/03
shipped out 05/11
tracking is not available yet
superfast! -
"You may be receiving another email notifying you of this
delay with a link to check the status of your order."
In my case, this e-mail had the header "LENOVO shipment confirmation" but the order is still listed as 'In process' if I follow the given link.
Either this is some kind of sick joke or Lenovo really needs to get its act together. -
-
Hmmm when tracking my package on UPS, my order was titled "EXCEPTION" and it said it cleared customs (I believe it was in Louisville, KY)...now it says I have one business day left and it's "in transit."
Here's hoping it's a good sign. -

I stand corrected... Status: Shipped on 05/11/2011
I don't pretend to understand, but this is a happy birthday present indeed. -
Yay!!! My X220T, ordered on 4/19 and projected to ship by 5/30, has just shipped out today! Huzzah!
That also means that I did get accurate info from customer support a week or so ago, who told me that mine was scheduled to ship the week of May 10th and would likely ship sooner, rather than later, because it had already been assigned a warehouse. Kudos to whomever that was, and take heart, all those waiting for tablets! -
Mine has changed to the following but still has a expected delivery date of tommorow.

which SSD should i install in the tablet? C300 128 GB or Intel 320 160 GB?

My order from 5/1 shipped on Monday, the order from 5/4 is still "in process". I'll have to return the first order and pray that they actually ship the right order soon... -
Hope to get this by week-end so I can play with it. -

I guess this is an indication that Lenovo has not provided invoices to customs. I hope this doesn't drag on....

Google the UPS status message and all that shows is related to Lenovo. -
Its weird, I actually got both an email stating all or part of my order shipped, followed by the email stating that my order has been delayed.
Now, when I check the IBM site, it shows that, like the Lenovo site, my x220t has shipped, but the IBM site marks the recycling fee as delayed...
As an aside, I also ordered one on 4/21 and cancelled, reconfigured on 4/24 (with coupon), and I called a handful of times over the course of two weeks to verify that my 4/21 configure was truly cancelled. This is my first Lenovo product, and I am already a little concerned with support. -
