Finally received today (8/9) for an order placed on 7/27. Unpacked, installed the Intel 310 mSata, and I'm now doing a clean install/updates.

It seems the warranty information takes two weeks to update from shipment. I was worried because a previous poster said his extended warranty was not attached to his laptop, and I was unable to verify that it was either before or after shipment. Finally, after escalation, I was told about the delay.

 

I ordered my new X220 on the 30th I believe and I received it yesterday on 8/9/11. (I haven't personally gotten a chance to unpack it and use it because I had to have it shipped to my other house that is 150 miles away. My work schedule hasn't helped either having no opportunity to drive there and back without personal issues.)

I'm thinking of doing the clean install (I have a physical Win 7 Pro 64-bit disc, but it doesn't have an optical drive. I may have to find an ISO for a flash drive (I need to buy one of those also, I have never owned one) to do a clean install.

Originally they said that it would ship on the 13th I believe so I was glad that it shipped out much earlier than that. (12.5" HD Premium screen, i5 2540, etc., 320GB 7200rpm drive, 4GB ram, so forth.)

Oh right, and I also purchased it for $960 after tax and shipping.

i5 2410, 4gb ram, premium hd, 320 gb 7200 rpm, webcam, 9 cell, $762 all in with the BN promotion. Thankfully doesn't seem to have any burn in/throttling issues so far.

Do you get an email when your laptop ships out? I ordered mine a couple days earlier than era86 and haven't heard anything.

 

I received an email containing the information to the order the day after I ordered it. If you don't get an email here in the next day or so you may want to contact Lenovo.

 

I have an order email, I just haven't got a "your order has been shipped email." I have an estimated delivery date of 8/23. Ordered it on 8/5

 

Oh they don't send that email I've found. The link that they (should have) gave in that email for the order confirmation is updated when they ship it out and they post the tracking information link on there also.

A little annoying yes, but they are still technically giving you the information.

 

Ok, yeah I've been checking that. I guess era86's x220s got priority over mine!

I see everyone getting 4GB, when I pull the trigger i'm thinking of getting 8GB as I want my thinkpad to last, however is 8gb unecessary?

 

For most users, yes. I'm getting by fine with 3GB and I only got the extra stick cause I got for like $6 on eBay.

 

Everyone is getting 4GB because Lenovo wants $160 for something that costs $25 when purchased separately.

 

I suggest you get the 4gb one and then add 4gb to it which will cost you no more than 30$ outside. Lenovo will charge you 100$+ for it.

did you all have to specify the IPS display or does it automatically come with it?

You must choose the Premium display, 2x2 antenna if you want webcam as well. It looks like you chose the standard TN display

 

You don't want the standard LCD. You want the premium IPS LCD. It's one of the bottom two options marked premium display, either 2x2 or 3x3 for the antennas.

I want to upgrade to 8GB memory; do I buy a 4GB and stick it in there or should i replace with an 8GB SIMM? Where is the cheapest people have been finding memory?

Here in Norway a configuration like that would go for like $3000... Their US vs EU pricing makes no sense to me and it's so frustrating because they make the most well bult laptops, hands down.

Been wanting one for 3 years now, but as a student there is no way that I am shelling out 3k on a laptop which costs 1/3 of that if I get on a flight and head west for 8 hours....

 

We get cheap notebooks. You get free health care. I'd take the latter.

 

i think it worked out to be about 25% ish or better than the 20% student discount XD i was overjoyed
