if you want the camera you need to specify the 2x2 antenna, not available with the 3x3 for some reason (space)

    Hi guys,

I am in the midst of buying either the X201 or the X220. The thing is.. I will be leaving the country in May 5th and I really need to have a computer in my trip. Do you guys think that if I buy the X220 (customized) it will arrive before may 5th?

    thanks!

In most cases, I would say yes (I ordered my X120e around release date and had it on my doorstep exactly 14 days after placing the order). But, you never know if kinks in the production process occur (ie: shortage of IPS displays, delaying some orders), and if that does happen, it could easily take beyond that time period. So, in short, it's risky, but possible.

Pay the $25 (negotiable) for 2 day shipping.

Wow, 14 days. Damn, I would be leaving on the 15th day. It would be really tight. I guess I will buy the X201, which is still a great piece of computer.

I would be willing to pay for it. I am just not sure of their availability.. I guess although I can order the 2nd day air they still will take a while to ship it. That is my main concern..

All the W520's (very recent) have been shipping within 1-2 days of ordering. I think you can also cancel the order if it hasn't shipped. It would be a real shame if you didn't order the X220 now that it's so close.

I'd say that's pretty pointless with Lenovo. Its systems are built in China and shipped over to the US by plane anyway, so the faster shipping will make only maybe 1 day difference in shipping time.

For me, build took 7 days, and shipping took 7 days. Out of the 7 days for shipping, 1 day was from Shanghai to Anchorage. 1 day was from Anchorage to Kentucky. 3 days were spent in customs in Kentucky. 1 more day from Kentucky to the Bay Area, and then the final day for delivery. Not much room for shipping to be any faster, as it's already traveling by air nearly all the way.

For what it's worth, both my T500 and X120e took ~14 days to build and ship to me, both of which were ahead of Lenovo's estimates. The T500 was ordered about half a year after it was released, and the X120e was ordered a few days after it was officially released.

According to the Shipping threads, it's a minimum 5 days in transit with standard shipping and as much as 7-8 days. With 2 day shipping, it's..2 days. The 2-day shipments seem to clear customs within hours instead of days. Plus, the $25 can be negotiated to a lot less. I need to minimize my down time once I ship my T400; I'll pay all of the $25 for 2-day service if I have to.

Well, the thing is the building time.. I am not sure how they will handle the massive amounts of orders. Anyways, I will wait until the 19th then.. let's see what their website says in regards to the shipping time.

I'm sure a lot of people will order on the 19th. See how long it takes for their machines to ship and order accordingly. I'll be placing my order on the 20th.

2410 has only 1.2 GHz graphics and 25xx have 1.3 GHz, if that matters to anyone looking at this. IMO 2410 is the best deal.

If you are looking for preconfig machine, the cheapest tablet would be a choice. The lowest one is around 1300

    UK Lenovo Shop.
I've just been searching the Lenovo UK shop and can't find the configuration options mentioned above by others. I can see three fixed models plus the tablet, but no on-line configuration options. There are just 'Buy now' controls that lead to resellers for those three models.
Has the site been changed or am I missing something?
A direct URL to the configuration page would be great!

I'm using the UK site, and during the customisation process, if I select the display as '12.5" Premium HD (1366x768) LED Backlit Display, Mobile Broadband Ready, 3x3 Antenna' it subsequently removes the web cam option. The Premium HD with 2x2 Antenna does not do that, therefore, does choosing this antenna over the 3x3 have any noticeable differences? thanks.

I need a new laptop to replace a Sony that died.

Targets are ~$1000, BT, Webcam, light weight(~4.5 pounds), enough power (Sandy Bridge i5)

I can either get a 13" Macbook Pro(latest gen) from Microcenter for $999.

or a T420S for roughly the same specs as the MBP for $1000

or an X220 for roughly $1000 with lower specs, but a lot lighter

the T420 series is released, but not the x220?

The 42862AU model appears to be the only model that any retailer has in stock. Costcentral and buy.com also offer that model.

You might want to go through some of the threads here. You'll pay hundreds more for a pre-config X220 vs. CTO directly from Lenovo.

Does that hold true at the initial lunch? The price of pre-configs seems to lag the pricing for a CTO from Lenovo directly, but that takes time.

    Threads have been merged.

The X-series has traditionally been on a slightly different release schedule from the T-series, so it's no surprise that the Tx20 models are already available while the X220 is not.

Generally, I would say yes, given Lenovo's penchant for giving out ecoupons. The T420 prices on Lenovo's website are lower than pretty much all the TopSeller model prices I've seen elsewhere.

You are probably right. Admittedly, I haven't followed prices very closely until recently. However, I configured at T420 at Lenovo to match model 4177Q5U and it was about the same price as listed at CostCentral. Lenovo ThinkPad T420 4177 (4177Q5U) - Laptops / Notebooks

Granted, the configuration at Lenovo was pre-coupon.

I was so eager to order one on Friday that I didn't notice this, so just accepted the 3x3 and didn't worry about the lack of a camera. A little irritated by the trade-off but I really need the machine to arrive as quickly as possible (need to leave the country soon), so am not comfortable contacting Digital River and trying to change my order, as I imagine that it will slow things down, what with the price difference. I never use the webcam on my current machine, so am telling myself I don't really care, and I suspect that I really won't even notice it's absence. They really should make the connection clearer, though. I'm usually quite careful, but assumed, in my haste, that it was the choice of an IPS panel that removed the webcam.

Anyone in the US ordering on Tuesday please PM me. The W520 guys have gotten much better discounts through certain reps directly than what the coupons give for the website. If we put our orders in as a group, we can get even better discounts from them as a group than ordering individually. Please PM me for this as the mods don't want pricing to be discussed publicly.

IMHO, the major selling point is the IPS display on the x220. So the Premium HD is a must have option.

4290-W1B (academic/student discount version) bought in Germany with shipping to Poland. You won't find any cheaper. I personally am going this route, being a student myself.

In regular distribution without a student discount a 4290-34U is the cheapest IPS model — available through a private importer from the U.S. on Allegro. Will also be available through official Polish distribution, but I have no idea when and how much will it cost.

So the difference between an IPS and non IPS is only £20. That's a smaller difference than one might expect!

Just to be clear, the Premium HD panels on offer below are IPS? :

    http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...-category-id=71869CB7AB18D048AB96F6A5EBD12D9E

The UK site doesn't seem to suppy any specifications, eg weight, dimensions, number of usb ports and whether usb 2 or 3. Do they expect you to order without knowing these things?

It isn't too clear, I have to say (having been confused re. the webcam and 3x3 antenna), but I'm pretty sure that only i7 models come with USB3, from what I've read here and elsewhere.

Are you sure that it comes with expresscard though because here in the uk there is a £33 option for a:

'Gemplus 54mm ExpressCard Smart Card Reader from Lenovo'.

I know it's early days but has anyone actually received an X220 with i5 yet and does it run cool and quietly?

It comes with an ExpressCard SLOT, and the option you are talking about is an ExpressCard CARD which fits in that slot.
