    The WWAN card is to replace something like an ATT USB Aircard right?

    So basically you'd just need the "Communication Manager" that comes with the aircard to access the net?

    Don't know about the link, but I'm pretty sure all the X220's come with the ExpressCard slot. I know that mine does.

    I have the i5 X220 and it does indeed run cool and quiet. Much more so than the T42 it is replacing.

    Hi

    Having trouble deciding whether to go for Core i5-2520M and Windows 7 pro, which is only £34 more than Core i5-2410M and Windows 7 home.

    Is the faster processor likely to be slightly noisier though?

    you probably won't notice the speed increase. the 2520M does have VT-d and AES, which is useful if you run Virtual Machines.

    google windows 7 pro vs home to see if you need the pro features. if not, don't get it.

    win7 pro is better suited in a small business environment.

    if you need any of the following, then go with pro.

    ability to join computer to a domain network
    remotely control the computer over remote desktop connection
    file encryption
    making group policies changes

    Also go with 2520M if you intend to use VMware or other virtualization software. Hardware virtualization support could be of use.

    edit::
    2 sources point to april 19th release date for x220t:
    1. I spoke with a lenovo sales rep and he said that the tablet is also coming out on April 19th.
    2. The youtube video that the lenovo team posted also indicates the same thing: YouTube - Lenovo Unboxed: ThinkPad X220t tablet at around 12:40-12:48 he says that it will be available april 19th.

    The validity of the first source seems to be in dispute.. seeing how kimck99 has gotten different answers from different reps, however this was a phone call with a rep so maybe that holds more weight?
    The second source seems legitimate enough. Posted by Lenovo's own marketing team.

    @kimck99: sorry :p

    Hi,

    FWIW, there appears to be some conflicting information about the possible avaialability of the tablet. I've had 2 chat sessions with a Lenovo reps via online chat and one said it will be available on the 19th but the second rep said no.

    Also, CostCentral.com notes that the tablets are "in stock" with 2-3 week delivery.

    Finally, another person on the forum said that he was informed by a Lenovo rep that it was available.,

    So, who knows. For me, sooner the better.

    UPDATE: It appears that chaosphoenix posted additional information just before me. Kudos...

    both have VT-X support for CPU

    only the 2520M has supprot for VT-d for I/O (eg HDD, RAM?)

    but my desktop's 2500k has VT-x, no VT-d, and Virtual machines work fine... they(ubuntu x64, W2008R2 x64 on W7 x64 host, guest machines on 2TB WD green, host on 1TB WD Black)get about 80% of actual performance per core

    Microsoft does a comparison at Compare Windows - Microsoft Windows

    Pro =
    • XP Mode free download (If you have to run old apps in an XP virtual window)
    • Backup & restore to a network. (I assume this means NAS also?)
    • Easier connection to company networks with domain join.

    I personally need to rethink my home backup strategy, and occasionally have some old app to run, so I'm thinking of Pro. But of course Home will probably be adequate.

    Thanks for the info. However, while I was spending a few hours deciding which processor to go for, the deal with the 2520M mysteriously went up in price by £30, so that the difference between the two processors became around £64 instead of £34.

    So, I've ordered an X220 with 2410M

    So, generally what time of day would the laptop be available when it gets released on the 19th? If the pricing is what I expect (around 1500 for an i7) then I'm going to want to get it ordered asap.

    Well, the i7 i saw on costcentral is about 2k4! (So i think the x220t is about the same or more) That made me sad because i have to keep saving at least until fall semester (I am a student).

    Don't look at pre-configured model's prices. They are very heavily distorted upward from direct pricing.

    Those of you ordering on the 19th, email me at vignesh.ie at gmail com. We already have a group of 12 people from here to try to get the maximum possible discount from the reps. W520 guys have gotten 20-25% off.

    @cisp360

    Well, I saw those models, but they all included extras I don't want; Like an ultrabase or 9-cell. I'm a student as well, my current laptop is an HP tc4200, which was an expensive laptop in its' day (2006) but since I'm close to graduating and beginning to work FT, I figure an upgrade is deserved. That said, I'd like to have this new machine by the end of the month (I know, its a long-shot) so I can try it out with some of my end-of-semester projects using some larger software suites (like Xilinx for FPGA and an Ubuntu VM for Hadoop stuff)

    @vinuneuro
    How does that work? Do we all have to agree to the same configuration? Also, I'm planning on purchasing with a CC or BillMeLater, I'm not sure how much that complicates things.

    FYI: I want i7 w/ bluetooth,USB3.0,finger printer reader, webcam, IPS.
    I'll probably upgrade RAM to 8GB and get an mSATA later from newegg, unless lenovo surprises me by offering the upgrades at a reasonable price.

    No, we all have different configs and will order individually. Just trying to get maximum % off for everyone part of it. I'm not going to post anything beyond this here since the mods don't like us talking about pricing publicly.

    Anyone heard feedback regarding the non-IPS display? I'm curious if it's at least an improvement over the X201 display, or if it's pretty much the same level of quality in a different size.

    Where you able to customize a a x220 with msata rapiddrive (ssd/hdd combo) ?

    That are all my options.

    Will I get better signal with the more expensiv "Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN)" over the "Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000" ?

    So as we all know - that release date is creeping up soon.

    What are people thinking for battery choices?
    I know that the 6/9 cells are not "flush," but that they also don't stick out all that much either. Trade off of an extra ~6hrs of battery life for .1 pound difference (personally thinking that ~8hrs should be more than enough for me)

    If only USB 3.0 came with something other than the i7 :)

    If I were getting one I would either get the 6 cell and the slice battery or just the 9 cell. I think having a 9 cell stick out and the slice battery looks horrible.

    buy Newegg.com - SYBA SY-EXP20057 USB ExpressCard 1 x USB 3.0

    (if you want 2 USB 3.0 on Expresscard, it sticks out)

    I would say the 6 cell would be nice... 9 would stick out a littel too much

    This is strange.. the i7 x220 Tablets are far cheaper than the i7 x220..?

    x220 Tablet: $1586 Lenovo ThinkPad X220 Tablet 4296 (42962YU) - Laptops / Notebooks

    x220: $1914 Lenovo ThinkPad X220 4290 (429035U) - Laptops / Notebooks

    **Note: I didn't actually compare the specs for these two. I just went and looked up x220, and then found the cheapest option WITH an i7 for both tablet and non tablet. ( http://www.costcentral.com/searchresults.php?keywords=x220&filterCategory=26&filterPriceLow=999 was my search)

    I agree! Just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy.. (earlier I was comparing 2 "identical" models.. only to realize that one had a 160G SSD and the other didn't..) I wish Lenovo pricing made sense.. there are enough confusing things about life to have them compound onto it. :(

    Lenovo's pricing will make sense as soon as the X220(s) appears on the Lenovo website, just pick the cheapest option and see what all the different upgrades will cost you.

    Or just go the 'tabook' way, pick the model you like best from the tabook and find the best price/reseller for it.

    I have been going the tabook way. I'm assuming that something I pick out of the topseller program would have a much sooner ship date (since there is no configuration time as these models are already built)?

    Are there any differences from ordering from Lenovo direct vs a reseller? (Initial sale aside of course) Stuff like warranty, service, etc?

    Do you guys think the x220t with i5 for $1300 is a price mistake? The i3 models are even more expensive. I looked through the tabook.pdf. Can't find a clue why i3 are more expensive. The i5 without webcam is even more expensive too.

    Let's wait and see. I hope they have a super slick deal for x220 and x220t tomorrow. Then I'll cancel my x220t pre-order. 4 years ago, when I bought my x61t mt/mv, they had a great deal within a week from launch date. I paid about $1600. Then afterwards, the price was steady high for quite some time. After 3 years, it once went down to $650.
