but why 8GB RAM is only available with i5-3427U processor?
-
on lenovo visa site i see it starting at $1061?
-
Does anybody know if it will be possible to change the battery yourself, by buying the FRU and taking it apart according to the as-yet-to-be-published hardware maintenance manual?
My X301 is on its third battery in 3.5 years. Not being able to replace the battery myself might be a deal breakar for me. -
1.8GHz Intel Dual-Core Core i5
8GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
256GB Flash Storage
AppleCare Protection Plan
Apple Air 13 Total $1,848.00
Really, Lenovo, really?
8 mil-specs, full carbon construction, bigger screen with better resolution and the world's best keyboard for only 31$ more? Really? -
"bigger screen with better resolution" - resolution is slightly higher (1600 instead of 1440), screen is bigger only by .7 inches. And Lenovo does not only have bigger screen, it also has bigger heavy-as-a-brick charger which does not correspond to this slim laptop even one bit.
"full carbon construction" - it's not made fully out of carbon fiber.
And to sum up, why did you add AppleCare Protection Plan to Mac Air when Lenovo comes with the same 1 year warranty as Apple does?
Anyway, if comparably configured Air and X1C are to cost the same, then it will only come to the personal preference of Win vs MacOS. However, when X1C price is even a little bit higher, then there is not much justification for choosing it over Air. -
Conclusion:
The base model with i5-3317U is selling at $50 cheaper than the original price of $1299 listed by Verge.
$1349 model costs about $20 cheaper than the $1649 model (announced earlier) because a 256 GB SSD adds another $280 to the $1349 making it $1629.
An upgrade from a 4GB RAM to 8 GB costs $250. #Is this for real?
The topmost model costs $1859 with a 256 GB SSD, $10 more than the $1849 that was reported.
And to top it all, an upgrade to a 3 year warranty that was initially promised, will cost another $119. -
Prices seem fairly reasonable to me. They're cheaper than we expected, especially the 8GB. I still think the 8GB upgrade alone should at least be in line of Apples $100 upgrade, but we don't know what else is involved in hiking that price up. I think the price came down with the warranty dropping to 1 year.
With my discount, it's going to be hard for me to decide between the 8GB or 4GB.
Also, with the i7 not being available for the 8GB, I don't think it's a big deal that they only offer an i5. I'm sure the difference is neglible compared to the upgraded RAM. -
I don't believe it had 8GB of RAM originally though, did it?
-
with EPP its $1597 with i5, 8gb, 256gb.
i'm gonna wait a few weeks/months to to see if i7 with 8 gigs is available, and perhaps for a slight dip in price. -
I was referring to the i7 model. It comes with 4 GB RAM. Yes, the i5 with 8 GB RAM works out to $1879 with a 256 GB SSD, but $250 more for just 8 GB RAM? There are no other differences between the models besides the RAM.
-
Apple is also going to cost less with various purchase programs. I have only compared online "street prices" for the normal folk, like myself.
As for i7 with 8 gigs, I think it is some kind of mistake that this configuration is not currently available. -
Just ordered my i5/8GB/256GB for $1503 before tax. Make sure you guys use your 10% off from signing up for their e-mail newsletter. It even let me combine it with the EPP program.
-
I chatted online with a lenovo person and she said that there is no i7/8GB option available now and she's not sure about any future plans.
-
Well, that's a good move on their part. There definitely is not going to be a lot of people who want to have top processor and max RAM in their laptop at the same time.
-
I cannot imagine how people can justify for any crap Lenovo does whether it is one way or the other...They always find it a good thing and can even tell you reasons for why Lenovo did it though Lenovo itself may not have this rationale in mind at the time but I am sure they get lots of help from such people to justify their STUPIDITY/IGNORANCE!
-
How are you guys using the EPP program? Can I get a link of sorts? I'm not seeing anything on B&N Gold.
-
i'm using the ibm one. my mom works there.
IBM Employee Purchase Program | Lenovo | (US) -
Just found the X1C on the B&N Gold site. Looks like it's currently unavailable though.

You sure about this? You can activate both eCoupons?

You are a gentle(wo)man and a scholar :-D
-
Jed Meyers, I did not mean you. I know what you were saying and I can see your direction! There are many other apologists here!
-
Thinking very seriously about getting i5/8GB/256SSD for $1503.
Anybody else a little put off by the sudden revert back to 1yr warranty? This is my first lenovo product, should I spring for the longer warranty? -
got the base system $999.20 plus tax....not bad
-
For anybody who uses Ally Bank. They have a auto-perk right now where you get $50 back from any $500+ lenovo purchase. Expires 8/19
That's excellent. Which purchase program got it down to $999? The lowest I've seen is $1061. -
I can't believe they want to charge $35 for mini-DP to VGA cable. I see them for $15 at Monoprice.
-
For those of you that have completed your orders... What are you getting for an estimated ship date? Had my heart set on I7/8GB of ram... It's not really clear yet if there will definitely be a I7 8GB available... or when. Would most of you agree that the difference between the I7 and the I5 will be negligible in day to day use? I think the 8GB of ram will make more of a difference.
-
I can all but guarantee you wouldn't notice a difference unless you are using this thing for heavy, heavy processing use (which you shouldn't be getting an ultrabook for). The 8GB has much more potential to impact real-world performance than the upgrade to i7.
The only difference between the i5 and i7 is 400MHz stock clock speed and 1MB extra L3 cache on the i7. I haven't ordered yet but my Checkout Cart says estimated ship date is 8/22. -
Thanks... That's what I was thinking... Just nice to hear that others agree. Up here in Canada initially it's saying ships in more than 4 weeks**. I haven't completed my order yet either though.
-
What numbers did you arrive at?
I'm trying to whittle down the price on the i5/8GB/256GB + 3yr On-site, but the best I have got is ~$1755 pre-taxes. -
So I spoke to a rep as it is not available in Canada as of yet. He said he did not have a date for CA. He was also able to tell me that the machine is Linux certified(like most thinkpads) and that the ram is upgradeable (not soldered). I know this has been talked about for a while and I have been following the forum from the beginning but I feel we were speculating on the ram being upgradeable or not in the past. Sorry if someone is repeating themselves.
The reason I bring it up now is if its $250 to add 4gb, it would make more sense to buy your own 8gb for $40( Newegg.ca - Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 Laptop Memory Model KVR1333D3SOK2/8GR) or something similar/compatible with this model, right? -
Well, you're doing good compared to me... I come up with $2144.00 CAD before taxes. I signed up for the 10% e-mail savings on the Canadian site... Then I get a code that says it can only be used in the U.S.... Haven't tried using it yet.
-
Considering that the SSD is not serviceable upgrading the warranty to two or three years does not seem like a bad idea.
And if Lenovo had provided a three year default warranty for X1C, like was "promised" in the pre-release reviews, would've given this laptop a huge advantage over the competition. Too bad it didn't happen. -
The SSD is serviceable.
-
Hmmmm.... Looks like they are still making changes to the Canadian site. I might wait until this afternoon.
-
Well, unfortunately it is only serviceable by Lenovo, not by an end user. And the SSD replacement is going to cost a lot after the laptop is out of warranty.
-
I'm looking at my cart on the Canadian site right now... Don't know if I would trust that the ram is upgradeable.... There has been a great deal of evidence saying that it is soldered... Just my opinion though.
-
Hey guys, anyone have any thoughts on this unit vs the Samsung Series 9 laptop?
Thanks... -
If it's not soldered in, I will opt with the i7 and upgrade it myself. But like you, I have my doubts.
The Russian teardown photo of the pre-production unit shows that the RAM is soldered in...
-
Anyone have one of the email Newsletter 10% off codes? I just signed up with two different emails and haven't received anything yet. If you've placed your order and are willing to share, please PM me
Now... to 4GB or to 8GB... -
The lenovo website/order page mentions the laptop has having a single sodimm slot. It reads "8 GB PC3-10600 DDR3L SDRAM 1333MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)". I saw some images posted earlier by third parties indicating that the RAM was soldiered. But I'd go by what the Lenovo site lists. It would be a shame if they were selling you something that is not what they said it is.
-
It is serviceable by the user if you can take four screws out. It's like saying sealed Mac's are only serviceable by Apple. By the time the warranty is up the ssd won't be prohibitively expensive. I'm not saying extending the warranty isn't worth it but the ssd is silly motivation.
-
Can we replace the 3g with a msata ssd, or is it a different connector?
-
I'm getting this when trying to stack EPP + Newsletter:
-
YUP, looks that way to me. Also, if it was simply a slot I would think that an 8GB option would be available for the I7 now.... Otherwise what would be the hold up.
-
You can, but what half size msata ssd do you plan on using.
-
not bad but 128gb ssd is too small not an option for business users
-
Are you actually able to check out with that configuration? I can get that with the newsletter discount but can't check out.
