1366x768 is a good (perfect?) resolution for a screen that small.
-
-
-
Jeez what'r you guys going to hold a magnifying glass for that resolution on an X-series.
-
Its 12.5" now versus 12.1" on current X series.
So it should look the same, less or more -
I need more space, this is not productive:

If Lenovo offers a nice 1600x900 display on the X220, I'd be very impressed, and very, very tempted to move to a smaller platform. The major hurdle that makes me hesitant about the X-series is the limited screen real estate, but I could definitely deal with 1600x900.
-
They suck for not offering WXGA+/HD+ resolution on regular 12" X laptops
!
-
I cant see it being that difficult to do 1600x900, my friend has a HP Envy 14" with the good display and the footprint of his laptop is barely larger than my 12.1" (The giant black bezels on the X201 dont help there). And the 12.5" will be a tad larger, so I think 1600x900 should be perfectly possible, not sure if it that kind of screen will work as a tablet screen though
-
PS
Answering your question: pdfs look perfect when ppi is printer-like. Math formulas are as legible as in a book. -
-
So there has been no official announcement, correct?
-
How are you going to deal with a higher resolution? (I'm not trying to be combative, I just want to understand.)
Explanation:
I program all day on a 12.1" 16:10 laptop screen at 1280x800. My Visual Studio font size is much smaller than yours is. I wouldn't want a resolution higher than this, as things may become too small.
Screen shot from my laptop and Visual Studio:
http://robotarcade.com/SA/laptop.png
- You and I currently use the same resolution on a same-sized monitor.
- I think this resolution/screen-size combo is perfect.
- I think that if everything became smaller, some items may be too small to see properly.
- You want everything on the screen to become smaller.
- You currently use a larger font size than I do. (Presumably because the default font size is already too 'small' for you to see properly.)
- You want everything on the screen to become even smaller.
This is why I am confused.Again, I am honestly just interested in the opinion of a fellow 12" laptop programmer.
edit: I agree that it would be visually easier to program on a very large, high-resolution monitor. It would be even easier with two large high-resolution monitors. It would be even easier if these monitors were rotated 90 degrees. However, we are using 12" laptops.
We are even both running Pidgin and IRC in our screenshots. Your opinion and mine should match exactly! -
-
But the place its most annyoing is some of the websites I use, they dont work very well on low res screens, 1440x900 would be nice for this screen size.
Another thing, I don't want to resize my stuff all the time :/ I have 2 24" 1920x1200 screens hooked up and when I connect them I have to resize it back to normal. (Also firefox seems to run bad when not a normal size) -
So, wait is this screen 12.5in like the Ideapad U260 then? Does that mean it will also be a larger machine or smaller bezel? I got the new laptop blues and this looks interesting me, like the X200 was 2 years ago. I don't care about aspect ratio as long as I have a matte(or glossy with anti-coating) display with acceptable viewing angles and color.
-
the X220 uses the T4x0s, T510, W510 keyboards, so the machine will be slightly wider (by about one or two cm). But the bezel is definitely smaller than that of the X20x, which also used a full size keyboard....
So i think it is great the X2xx machine was really meant to be built with a 12.5 inch LCD. -
Do you think it maybe the same matte display used on the U260? Because I read good reviews for that display; sadly the same could not be said for the dismal battery life, or else I'd take a good look at it and external optical drive.
-
couldn't really say for sure... but chances they could be. I think ideapad U260 is designed by Lenovo rather than the ODM manufacturer like most other ideapad lines.
-
Yeah I had the same feeling as it looks a bit more upscale vs some of the other Ideapads. I really like it, but the poor battery life(according to reviews) is a real turn off.
-
So what's an educated estimate of when this thing is supposed to come out?

X220 Specs:

Seems like it's coming out later this month. January 2011.
-
-
200MP is nothing for a good large format back.
-
those specs are disappointing
-
I hope they keep the roll cage and toughened screen lid.
I love how sturdy the lid on my R400 is and I intend to get myself X 12" at some point in future, would be shame if they dropped extra lid protection like they did on T410, I recently checked some videos at youtube and saw in one review how opening lid by corner makes it flex terribly, I imagine that means less of screen protection when laptop gets squeezed into full bag?
When I put my R400 into bag I have no fear, theres no way I can get screen to ripple, I can only twist it by corners but not enough to make me worried. -
Other than that.... it's expected that it's going to have only integrated graphics and (hopefully) a better screen. I still see only 1 speaker tho (lol....) -
only thing i care is battery life.
do you guys think the battery life on new x220 will be more than 10hr?
the x201 with large battery can get about 8-9?
intel update their cpu every year, right? sandy bridge > first gen i-core. but the next gen will be much better than sand bridge then...
I am getting a laptop for work, should i just get the x201 or wait for x220? -
The x201 can get over 10 hours, as evidenced by the Notebookreview review of it. However, from reports, it's more between 9 to 10 hours.
From all the sandy bridge laptops that have come out so far, Sandy Bridge has been basically increasing the Battery life by 30% or more to comparable previous generation notebooks, so it wouldn't surprise me if the x220 reached a little less than 11 hours. Sandy Bridge, aside with the IGP and quad-core processors, isn't that much faster than previous generation processors, but they are a LOT more energy efficient. -
I have never gotten more than 5-6 hours on my X201 with i7 620LM
-
Do you have a nine-cell battery?
-
I also have an x201 tablet which gets between 5-6hrs battery life. I know someone who has a regular x201 with the 6 cell battery and they get 6-7hrs so I absolutely believe the 9-10 hour claim with the 9 cell.
Hope this cleared it up! -
I have a 9 cell battery which extends out of the back. At least I am pretty damm sure its 9 cell
-
If it is a tablet, it is the 8-cell.
-
Dont understand how the 8 cell can have 66WHr while the 9 have that much more :s
-
Not sure how batteries work. What I do know is more cells doesn't necessarily mean more stored energy. There are some 4 cells with more WHr than some 6 cells, for example.
-
9 hr vs 11 hr... I guess it's not day and night. I am not gonna work straight for 9 hrs without plugging in. at least, not very often.
I will see if I can turn my quote to an order. created a quote during last sale when x201 was ~650. -
When this is released, will Lenovo stop selling the X201?
Because I just noticed (at least on the Australia site) that the X100e is no longer being sold on the Lenovo website? And I wondered whether it has something to do with their new, upcoming X120e thinkpad? -
They are going to sell it until are they inventory has been depleted, they are not going to stop selling the x201 when the x220 is first introduce.
-
^^Are we given some sort of 'warning' when their inventory is nearly empty?
-
from what I remember from past years - no. They just disappear.
-
Aw
Thanks anyhow. -
Btw what is the difference between the keyboard on my X201 and on the bigger models? I read alot about that this new model will get the same keyboard as the bigger models, but isnt this already a full size keyboard?
-
Huge Esc key, huge Del key, tighter spacing between the keys, backlit Power button, volume rocker switch, microphone mute, backlit volume controls, tweaked Thinkvantage button. -
Looks great. Now if only they got rid of "right click button", and say left Alt and right Ctrl and make a big old spacebar, shrink "\" and expand Enter up there.... or throw in Fn instead of the useless Scroll lock upstairs.... wow.... that would be a dream come true.
