On the german Lenovo Website the X250 is available. The WiFi options are:

    1. ThinkPad Drahtlos 2 x 2 BGN mit Bluetooth
    2. Intel Dual-Band-Netzteil 7265 AC/B/G/N + Bluetooth-Version 4.0
    3. Intel 7265BN, Bluetooth-Version 4.0
    4. Intel Dual-Band-Netzteil 7265 A/B/G/N + Bluetooth-Version 4.0
My question is what is the difference between option #2 and #4

IEEE 802.11ac: up to 7 Gbps in 5 GHz networks
IEEE 802.11a: up to 54 Mbps in 5 GHz networks

So 'ac' is the most modern Wifi standard, and used by new routers.

    Hi,
    I bought a Lenovo X230 about a year ago: i5 3320 2.60Ghz, 8 GB RAM, Win 7 Pro 64, 500GB HD (not SSD), with IPS screen.

I've been mostly happy with it. It's the perfect size, after trying a couple 10" laptops. The screen is nice. The keyboard is great. And overall I like it's sturdiness and portability. I feel like I can 'trust' it, too.

One or two things I don't like about it though: whatever I have plugged into the USB slots, the slightest movement and they disengage. There's also not enough USB slots (although it has 3). It has no DVD drive (although I have a 'base', whatever they are called, which I can sit it in and it has extra USB slots and a DVD drive - but that's not really portable. The battery only lasts 3 hours or so - and travelling in Europe all year I can't get a spare (!). The touchpad can be annoying. But, apart from the battery, those are the smaller issues.

The main issue I have with it is that it's slower than expected. Too frequently, I open a folder and have to wait before any of the files either appear, or are usable. This is especially the case with videos. Often I have to wait while the system whirs away with the warning 'unresponsive' or some such. I also keep a lot of stuff backed up on external 2TB HDs and this issue is even worse when I plug one of them in - add to that the USB connection issue and I've accumulated hours of irritation...

I've never had this issue with any of my older, 17" laptops, and I'm doing much the same kind of thing, so I'm guessing it's the processor that's too slow. I also wonder if an SSD might at least make the folders on the laptop more accessible.

So, I was looking at this X250 and wondered if I took the highest spec model - fastest processor and 500GB SSD drive - do you think I would 'solve' or come close to 'solving' some of these issues? I see that it still only accepts 8GB of RAM but I'm not sure that's the problem here.

Also, are there any other areas where an X250 might improve (or reduce) my overall happiness? I was recommended the X230 on this forum and am, mostly, very happy with the recommendation.

    Thanks.

I have an x240 with a non-touch FHD display with a 3+6 battery and get a pretty consistent 14-15 hours of pretty solid use out of it. I'd expect the x250 to be the same.

14-15 hours is very impressive. I can hardly imagine it!
Which battery do you use to get that much time?

Heh... Thought I'd mention this just to add some contrast: My X201 gets around 4 hours on my 6-cell. To me, even 10 hours sounds pretty damn nice :p

I am actually surprised you get that much. First gen i5 is quite inefficient, and you have high voltage RAM. Also if you're on your original battery, then it must have deteriorated somewhat, further decreasing runtime. So 4 hours ain't too bad. I get 5 hours on my X240.

Actually you're right, it's because I bought a replacement 6-cell battery about a year ago - my original one deteriorated to the extent where it could barely hold for 20-30 minutes.

Just received one of these today. Overall very nice. I got the i3 model with the FHD touchscreen. I really like the screen... great viewing angles, gets very bright. Contrast is even good at low brightness. The keyboard is pretty good - a little mushy compared with my T530, but still pretty decent. I'm so happy they brought back the buttons on the touchpad.

My only complaint so far is with the 6-cell external battery. It sticks out the bottom quite a bit and makes the machine uncomfortable to use on the lap. For sure battery life looks to be amazing... with 84% remaining it's telling me I have 13 HOURS left, but, realistically, I'd trade a little battery life to get rid of the protruding battery.

A couple of more things. This is a brand new machines, and the Win7 image loaded on it still required nearly 500MB of Windows Update downloads to bring things up to date. Once that was done, for some reason the machine had this weird delay.... nearly a minute... prior to bringing up the login prompt at start-up and when coming out of standby (the Windows background was there... it just took a crazy long time to bring up the login prompt). Then I ran the Lenovo update which downloaded and applied another 300MB stuff (drivers, BIOS)... and it was all fixed. Software-wise, the machine is running great now.

You could get the 3 Cell vs 6 Cell battery. Do you also have the 3 cell Internal battery (I wonder how much life you can get from just that front battery).

So I just bought one thanks to an amazing Slickdeals deal. For $878 with these changes from stock:

    • i5-5200U
    • 500GB HDD (to be replaced with a Samsung 850 Pro)
    • 4GB ram (to be replaced with 8GB)
    • FHD Touchscreen
    • 3 Cell+6 cell

This is around the same price that I bought my X220 4 years ago. This is also just supposed to hold me over until Skylake, but we shall see.

That is a great deal. Better than I got recently through our corporate discount. Plus you can now configure FHD with no touchscreen.

These really are nice machines. I've been playing with one for a couple of days and I really like it.

I got one.... don't know how I got this price, but it was a pretty sweet deal. That bottom cover though... needed a plastic iPhone blue spudger to open it. Definitely not user friendly to replace my HDD with a SSD.

One annoying thing was that the D-key was halfway broken off (stupid white plastic hinge had one post broken). Since I was about to leave for a business trip, I decided to just order a new key hinge on one of those websites (it's the same keyboard as the X240) and it'll be there to replace when I get back.

Also, got the three year on site with ADP and battery protection from Provantage. Was less expensive than ordering from Lenovo.

Yeah, the days of the little slide out hard drive bay on the side are apparently gone. I used that quite a bit...

Sorry to hear about your D-key. I've had numerous issues getting into my bottom covers recently, definitely not user friendly in my opinion.

I should be getting mine on Thursday, can't wait to try it out.

I was so excited to finally pick up my X250 at UPS this morning after its week-long trip from Hong Kong. The first thing I did was try to activate the Sierra WWAN card. It didn't work. After talking with 2 VZW techs and 5 Lenovo techs for much of the day, Im convinced Lenovo has the worst support on earth. Horrible horrible day. The thing is already on its way back for repairs.

Follow-up: Turns out the problem was a fake SIM card provided by Lenovo from the factory. Once I replaced it with a real SIM card from Verizon Wireless, everything worked fine.

    I got my X250 yesterday...
i3, 3 cell + 6 cell, upgraded to 8gb ram and put my 1tb ssd in there. Had to switch to legacy boot in bios and turned on Virtualization settings.
Spent most of the time configuring stuff, setting stuff up and running it fairly hard. Fan kicked in quite often, was on wifi all the time with it set to max performance.

Got about 11 - 12 hours out of it. Pretty impressive considering I wasn't trying to save battery much. Overall performance is pretty good, seems a little slow than my other i7 and i5 laptops but not too bad. Added bonus is that it's compatible with the T540p dock.

Can't say enough good things about getting my trackpoint button back!!

Really glad I got in on the 35% off deal, really can't beat the price.

So far I'm only getting 8-9 hours but I think it's because of Windows indexing. After it settles down I hope it will improve. Lenovo's claim of 20+ seems totally impossible as far as I can tell. I'd like to see if anyone out there is able to do that.

Once the indexing was finished, the battery life improved to 15.5 hours under my normal usage scenario. This is with wifi connected all day, using mostly MS Office programs and sporadic web searches, plus watching a 90 minute YouTube movie. If I stay connected all day using LTE with wifi deactivated, I get 14.5 hours.

This is a much less power-intensive scenario than the one Lenovo claims to have used to get 20+ hours. But it is still pretty good. Why can't Lenovo simply tell the truth?

So I got mine on Monday. Installed stuff and trimmed pre-loaded junk, of which there was a TON. Down to 50 installed programs on the Samsung 850 Pro SSD. Added an 8GB ram stick, works fine. The machine was loud, fans at full blast in the beginning, but now it is really silent. A nice upgrade from my X220 (still can't wait for Skylake), love the touchscreen and the FHD resolution is nice but really hope Microsoft and companies like Google and Evernote scale better with Windows 10. Also the webcam, Bluetooth, and fingerprint reader were not on my X220, so they are nice to have.

BTW does anyone know what these programs do and if they are needed?
    • Disable AMT Profile Synchronization Pop-Up (can't remove)
    • Intel Technology Access
    • Lenovo Multimedia and Communications Core Runtime
    • Multifactor Authentication Client from Nok Nok (for the fingerprint reader I assume)

Is the M.2 slot M.2 sata or M.2 Pcie? What length is the slot?

I'm seriously, seriously thinking about grabbing the corp deal in a day or so and selling my T430s and grabbing a FHD non-touch with the bottom i5 and robbing my T420s of the 8GB stick. I'll stick out the stock HDD and go M.2 with Linux.

I played with the x250 at the shop and found one usability problem for me. the buttons for the trackpoint. I'm used to it being a raised physical button above the trackpad and now my thumb finds the built-in button merged with the trackpad, hard to identify and click. I'm aware that all the x50s lineup will have the same; but it feels like a step-back rather than a step forward.

I have the t410 and now the t430 as my personal laptops.

Is everyone satisfied with their x250? I can get one with corp discount, but if the slickdeals 35% off is still valid or a similar deal that will be cheaper. How much is a compatible 1x 16gb module going for? I would need 16gb or more of ram.

    Hi All,
The left USB port on my X250 runs hot.
Meaning, when I unplug the device I left connected, the metal on the connector (of the cable or the flash drive) is hot to touch, almost painful.
Only happens with USB3 devices so far (the only other device I've tried is a Logitech mouse dongle).

That means the motherboard runs hot.
And that could mean trouble down the road (fried motherboard, fried flash drive, etc.)

    Anyone with a similar experience?
    Thanks

So I got my X250 with HDD and swapped it to a SSD, installing Windows 8.1 on it.

Everything went on smoothly, except for the fact that the system doesn't recognize any of the network devices. Since it can't recognize the devices, I can't install the drivers, so I am pretty much helpless now.

I have a Windows 8 key that I bought from my school and the ISO version of Win 8.1 was a non-cracked one.

Could anyone help me out figuring out how to get my internet work? :'(

I setup my X250 with the Samsung 1TB 850 Pro, 8 gigs of memory, 16GB of Flash on the 3rd Slot, and had it configured for the I7-5600 and 1920x1080p non-touch screen. I have Windows 8.1 Pro and dual boot into Ubuntu 15.04 with no problems. The notebook is so fast, small, light, and durable. I'm very glad I bought this notebook.

I saw something like that previously in x250. It looks like someone open laptop and open lid without bottom part.

Looks like you can get 16GB RAM now.

    Expensive, though.

That's a pretty simple solution. Use a different computer to download the drivers, put them on a USB-stick, and transfer them to your X250.
