Here's a nice video review. It highlights the same trackpad and fan noise issues identified in this discussion, but doesn't mention any of the build quality issues I found with mine.
-
Good review - glad it's not just me that has noticed the fan issues

A few questions for owners regarding the FHD panel:
1. Is it 100% true matte with zero reflections, even when displaying completely dark or black content?
2. When watching content (like a movie) with black bars on the top and bottom - are the bars 100% black and light bleed free?... i.e. Any hints of flash lighting in the corners and/or bleed along the top and bottom edges?
3. Do we know yet how many different suppliers there are for the FHD panel? Early in the thread, an owner stated that they have an "AUO (B140HAN03.1 RGB4:4:4)" panel, but a different owner later said they have a "LEN40A9" panel.
Based on a Google search, the "LEN40A9" is manufactured by Innolux. And I know that (at least with respect to big screen TV's), AUO is considered more premium quality than Innolux. I also know that prior generations of the X1 Carbon and T-Series have used LG panels. So I'm just curious how many different potential panel suppliers we're looking at here(?).
4. How are blacks, color saturation, and color accuracy in general?... Any issues with yellows?... Anyone done a basic calibration yet which produced any noticeable improvements?

Lenovo have suggested to change the fan, heatsink and a whole new mainboard to try and solve the overheating/fan issues. I have obviously rejected this offer - and they will now be sending out a replacement to see if that solves the issue.
-
Lisa sounded pretty confident that the current fan issue should be resolved with a BIOS update from Lenovo, and the trackpad issue with a drivers update (for now, the trackpad issue can be fixed/managed manually by restarting machine when the issue arises).
Hopefully Lenovo is reading this forum and/or these issues are being reported on Lenovo's own forum. They're usually pretty good about addressing matters.
That said, I would definitely try a replacement in the meantime.huntnyc likes this. -
There is a new bios update 1.16 online
CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE
Version 1.16
[Important updates]
Nothing.
[New functions or enhancements]
- Added support of Windows 8.1 64-bit.
- Updated the CPU microcode.
[Problem fixes]
- Fixed some issues with ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock or ThinkPad USB-C Dock.
- Fixed an issue where Windows 7 32 bit system might hang at resume from hibernation.huntnyc likes this. -
Will give the new BIOS a try tonight. Shame is doesn't address any of the issues highlighted so far.
-
Have installed it but didnt notice anything . Fan Issue still persists and i hope they will fix it soon.

installed ubuntu 16.04, can't seem to get the trackpoint to work properly (scrolling doesn't work, can't adjust sensitivity/speed). The trackpad works fine.
I don't think the drivers are available for the trackpoint, any tips on this? -

Monitor Name: Lenovo [Unknown Model: LEN40A9]
Monitor Name (Manuf): B140HAN03.1
So I think the reference to LEN40A9 is a generic one and not the actual AUO model and revision. -
The B140HAN03.1 is the revision of this panel by AUO:
http://www.panelook.com/B140HAN03.0_AUO_14.0_LCM_overview_28076.html
However, the B140HAN03.1 model does not yet appear in that panel database likely due to it being new. I'll be interested in seeing its specs once entered. -
Another issue with the laptop I'm noticing is the power output imbalance between the USB 3.0 ports. The right side seems to be able to power my USB 3.0 Monitor just fine, but the left side can't keep the monitor powered on. Is anyone else noticing power issues on the left usb port?

I'm pretty torn - the X1 looks perfect, but it *has* to be quiet.
It seems pretty split over those who say it's silent, while others say the fan is jumpy and irritating (including Notebookcheck)
My other option is the Dell XPS13, which has a thicker body and by all accounts seems to be quiet.
Hmmm...if anyone has updates on this I'd be grateful to hear about it. -
We have to know when users say the fan is noisy , is it running in high RPM or it's just noisy in low RPM .
if it's running in high RPM , a firmware update and a better thermal paste will solve the issue .
if the fan is noisy in low RPM , then the fan has to be changed from Lenovo and we have to wait for a fix from Lenovo.
if anyone here , has the laptop please install a fan speed control application and report the rpm and CPU package temperature when the fan is at it's noisiest state .
Thanks . -
Flat keyboard, "sharp" front edge and relatively small clickpad are my issues compared to my T440s.daniel goodridge likes this. -
I think processor might be a factor in whether or not your fan is noisy. I have an i5 and have no issues. I wonder if fan noise being a complaint is more prevalent among those with the i7.
-
If i had seen this yesterday i would have answered with "Yes thats right, cause i have i7 and i hear the fan very often".
Today there is an Intel Management Firmware Update. Although there isnt mentioned anything about the fan and i think fan issues could only be solved with bios updates, the fan is quiet today after the Intel Management update ...droyder, huntnyc and daniel goodridge like this. -
This sounds very good---- are you using i5 or i7?

This sounds very good - is yours i5 or i7 ? -
Think the i5 is probbaly better than the i7 in terms of heat dissipation - but I'm sure the same issue exists on both - just doesnt show itself as much on the i5

Just ordered a 5th Gen X1 Carbon on Monday. The base configurable model wasn't available until Monday and it finally showed up for me. Ordered the base config without much custom config, I am planning to upgrade the SSD myself. For me Lenovo showed a shipping estimate of 4 - 5 weeks.
Wondering how long it typically takes to ship and if its really going to take 4-5 weeks. -

Just installed Windows 10 Creators Update (15063) - EasyResume feature has stopped working and it seems even if you re-install all power management drivers again it still does not work. Just a word of caution in case anyone else updates.

EasyResume isn't listed. I just installed all the base and power management type drivers.
The Instant On service is the the that controls this function as is still there after the update, but doesn't do anything when the lid is closed.
Have tried the upgrade now four times with no success. -
Any guess what's the difference between the 7500U and 7600U i7 models? They both come with 14" FHD and 16GB onboard. Only difference is vPro, but I'm not entirely sure if that would make a difference to everyday user.

The warranty offered is "Limited warranty - 3 years - pick-up and return" does this include in home service?
Battery is limited to 1 year though...Last edited: Apr 2, 2017 -

Eyeing the 7600U version then.
Do you know how warranty is handled by lenovo? Do they offer in-home service for the 3 year period? -
Standard 3 year warranty is depot (ship it off). You have to pay extra for expedited (3 day turn around) or in-home.

Did you upgrade to the creators edition or do a clean install? -
You are supposed to be able to upgrade after purchase. I tried to look online but for some reason the site didn't find my serial number, but I'm guessing they could do it if I called.
Thanks for clarifying awharton - what I had said was true for my purchase of a TopSeller model direct from Lenovo. It really depends on what you're buying and who you buy it from. It looks like from the Lenovo site, the custom order options have a 1 year warranty standard. -
Am buying from my business, but it says the 7600/16/512 have Limited 3 years with pick-up and return, if I can extend this it would be a good idea. I will give Lenovo a call after purchasing.
Does anyone know if Lenovo supply you with a new thinkpad if the gen 5 is out of production and yours break?Last edited: Apr 2, 2017 -

Looks like they are in stock for Canada. 256gb SSD and 16gb RAM is $2669 with EPP pricing its $1900 so roughly 29% in savings. Might hold off until they have Windows Hello IR camera available and for 40% savings around Christmas time.

From Lenovo's Danish site I have the choice between these two processors at almost the same price.
- Intel Core i7-7500U-processor (4 MB cache, op til 3,5 GHz)
- Intel Core i5-7300U-processor (3 MB cache, op til 3,50 GHz
-
Don't know why the i7 would be cheaper. I am happy with my i5 but I will say if you do some video editing, get the i7 - encoding will be faster.
