looks like the Z61ts are starting to ship. anybody seeing a Z61m shipping yet?
-
That's good news Jeff and Uniquestco.
Hi bill I think Jeff ordered Z61m.
Hopefully all of our laptops get shipped in a week or so. -
are there only delays on the z series?
-
Yes, it is good news for the actually shipped pmes, but there is NOTHING definite about mine.
For all I know, I could be getting the run around again! Hopefully not, but there is always hope. At least what I had was a DEFINITE date that I can now semi-hold them to. We'll see, I 'Spose. -
Wow. I gotta call tomorrow and see what I can complain my way into. Too much stuff going on, and worse yet, stuff that I didn't want to be tying up the phone over. Almost pulled the trigger on a vaio sz360p/c today.
-
-
wow! Finally mine shipped on 12/13th
I can't wait to see mine.
It is a Z61t, 9440-D9U -
Great news that we're seeing some ship out. I guess mine is still sitting. I called in yesterday and the rep just gave me my est. ship date. That's didn't help. Hopefully mine will be going out shortly!
-
Hi mtn,
As I always said, don't believe what your sales rep says. They have no clue.
Yesterday they told me, they are sure that my build date is 12/26th. Now I get up in the morning and the status shows shipped and I have a tracking number to see the package. -
Odd... Same thing happened to me... Yesterday the rep calls me telling me that they won't have the laptop until 12/26 and how hard she searched the entire system for me, and yet this morning I have a tracking number.
I really just don't get it. I'm not inexperienced in ordering, hell I used to order lots of hardware for a test lab, much of it new and heavily constrained like these laptops, and I have never experienced such insanity for this large of a company.
Even if this laptop is great I don't know if I can recomend lenovo to anyone else, at least anyone I like ;-)
z61t 9440D9U -
Hi joex,
one thing I noticed...... when they put you on hold and are checking the entire system, they are basically checking the order status page that we also have access to and what your previous representatives told you.
That way they try to be consistent with their lying atleast. -
If this is true, and I don't know if it was a story or not, it would seem that they don't have near real-time data from China, which is kinda pathetic in this day. -
It looks like the 3 Z61ts that shipped are the D9U and the AMU. Guess I'm out of luck.
*update, now seems like 4 total, 3 D9U and 1 AMU, including rhizop0d below -
My Z61T has also shipped. 9440-D9U, ordered 11/29, shipped 12/14.
Not only has it shipped 2 weeks early, but looks like there's an extra gig of RAM in there! Sorry to those of you have been waiting for so long... just goes to show how unpredictable Lenovo CS can be....

Anyone ordered the D1U except just me?
-
I ordered my d9u on 10/30, so they are probably now just covering all the orders that were susposed to ship the end of November.
-
I got shipping notification yesterday and was all excited but then saw it was just for a second AC adapter I had ordered. ****.
My D9U (ordered 11/08) still shows it shipping 1/04 and that's what the cust rep said in her last message (she always calls late in the day after I've left the office). She's indicated they get some daily report as well. Who knows maybe the same complaint rep we're all dealing with. -
Mine shipped too. z61t d9u ordered 10 Nov. No tracking info yet.

I've been following this thread. Finally decided to sign up and post a response myself. I just got off the phone with Lenovo and wanted to post my experience.
Anyways, I have been calling Lenovo since week 2 of my wait. I was promised that I would have my notebook in time for an upcoming trip to Tokyo (next week). But, according to the supervisor I began speaking with yesterday (Yolana 866-428-4465 ext 32912, if anyone is interested) the supply manager said they will not have ANY shells or CD drives till mid-January... yes... I said MID-JANUARY. I have a hard time believing the CD drive claim since the majority of the models use the same one. I called her on that and she just stumbled over her words and said that they're all in different warehouses blah blah blah. I ordered my Z61m on 11/21, I've been promised by reps that mine was being built and it would ship within days SEVERAL times. But alas I will have to wait over 2 months! I asked what my incentive was to keep hanging on and if there was any sort of compensation they would offer... she said "no" and that I "can cancel at anytime." WHAT!?I am a bit irritated at this point to say the least. I asked to speak to her manager to which she replied "I'm a supervisor," in a rather arrogant tone. After a brief explanation of how a business is structured and explaining to her that she DOES in fact have a manager she finally agreed to have her manager call me back.
I can't believe I let myself get drug around like this for a month. Unless her manager provides me with some sort of compensation I will be canceling my order as soon as I find another comparable notebook. I really wanted a Z61m, I'm pretty bummed. -
Well after waiting about 2.5 months for my Z61m I got 10% off on top of EPP

"Upon investigation this afternoon, while your system may have been delayed by memory at one point, the current hold is for the shell. While the system shows build start today, based upon the constrained shells, we expect a realistic build date of 12/19 with 12/22 as the outer ship date."
ACK! -
model 9451-E4U
Centrino Duo 1.83ghz
DVD burner
WSXGA+
1gig ram
3year warranty with accident protection
was like $1570 and then got a refund of 150 something.
I ordered in early June and got it at the end of August. -
Well, it's hard to believe I know, but my z61t actually arrived today.... I don't know if it was worth waiting a month and a half for but it is very very nice. Solid build quality and as far as I can tell no stuck pixels.
Now I just have to make the rescue disks so I can blow away windows and install Fedora Core 6 ;-) -
Z61M's seem to be delayed until at the earliest next week, according to my new inside source. (I crawled the executive level).
-
wow this guy i just called knows nothing he says my order is confirmed for the 27th, and that its started packing, and im like what do u mean, doesnt it need all the parts first before it starts packing? and he said no theyre doing that while they wait on the remaining parts(even though countless representatives have told me it needs to wait and he swore hes never heard of that statement before). then i said some of my friends (u guys) have said the shells are delayed till january, and he said no mine should ship dec 27. anyways i shouldve probably asked to check with a supply chain manager. im just dumbfounded at this point how their gonna last in the cuththroat customization industry.
this whole process is really a downgrade, i just had a tight budget for a thin and light computer got it for $900. and havent found anything as thin or light with a comparable price but if any of u guys have suggestoins let me know and i might consider it. -
I hope all of you have a better experience than I've experienced.
I ordered a Z61t in August for a trip to Europe scheduled for November. I specifically wanted the ThinkPad because of the reputation of construction and build quality, and the tactile feel of the keyboard.
My Z61t arrived in mid September. Then after about two weeks it failed to operate from the battery or charge the battery. Pressing on the case near the front center under the display would sometimes cause the unit to operate off the battery. Obviously there was an intermittant part or bad solder point.
In addition, the left click/mouse key under the glidepad became sticky, causing the cursor to fly off in various directions, making scrolling almost impossible. From the getgo, the audio quality was totally unacceptable with very low ouput, totally inadequate for any type of business presentation.
I called customer support and after going through the routine of checks, the person I spoke with suspected I had a bad battery and suggested I try a new battery. I agreed and a replacement was sent out overnight. It did not cure the problem.
Another call to customer support. I was told they could not guarantee a repair or replacement before my trip. I agreed to take the unit with me and use the external power supply, and to send it back for exchange upon my return from Europe.
Four weeks later after returning, I called customer support for an RMA for a return and exchange. I was told that the 30 day period for no questions exchange/replacement was up. I explained my situation and was told by the support person that he was unable to authorize an exchange. He then referred me to the next level. I called that individual and again I was told there was nothing that could be done and he wouldn't authorize an exchange. He did agree to handle all the internal paperwork and expedite a repair. I never heard from him again.
Another call to Lenovo and I gave all my case numbers to another customer service individual. I was sent a carton to return the unit to the Selectron facility in Tennessee. Selectron is a large contract electronics manufacturer and outside source for service support.
I sent the unit in along with a detail explanation of all of the problems. After two weeks and no response I called the customer service center and was told the unit was on 'customer hold' whatever that meant and was told that someone would get back to me with more information. It never happened.
Two days later I repeated the same routine and again was told the same story. This time I did receive a call telling me they were waiting for a replacement latch to fix the laptop cover. I told them there was nothing wrong with it when I returned it. They had no answer but told me that within 24 hours I would receive a call telling me when to expect it to be returned.
Again, no call and I called yet again to go through the entire routine again but this time I demanded to speak with a supervisor. I then was told that someone would call me and I did receive a call today....finally. I was told the unit had been returned to me. I asked what problems were found and corrected. The problem with the battery and lack of charging apparently was not even addressed! The individual I was speaking with said it likely had been addressed and just not noted on the repair sheet. She said if there was a remaining problem they would address it.
About an hour later DHL actually delivered my machine. I unboxed it, replaced the hard drive and attempted to boot it up. It was dead out of the box, refusing to operate with either the battery or the external power supply. And the titanium cover now had scratches in it that were obviously caused by a repair person flipping it upside down on a repair bench.
At this point I am beyond angry. I left a voice mail with the last individual I spoke with at Lenovo demanding a new exchange unit or a refund of my purchase price or I would contest the purchase with my credit card company.
So, the lesson learned is document all of your conversations with Lenovo service, and don't be bullied. This experience ranks as my all time worse customer service experience with the possible exception of dealing with HP two weeks ago regarding a failure of my DesignJet 130 printer...but that's another story!
I'm typing this on my five year old Dell laptop. -
That's very bad Charles. Good luck in getting your laptop replaced with a new one. Didn't you get onsite warranty or something like that?
So far the shopping experience with Lenovo has been the worst ever for me. I am willing to forget all this if my Z61t behaves good like a real thinkpad. Hopefully there won't be any problem. -
You should send that letter ad address it to the President of Lenovo - that is horrible service and I'm sure not the repuation Lenovo wants....
I hope you have better luck and they resolve the problem.
If it makes you feel any better I've been through the same crap with Dell, Gateway and had nightmare's with other electronics... the price we pay for loving tech products.... -

Nothing yet... the UPS tracking site has been stuck on "Pickup Scan" in Kowloon Bay, HK since the 14th. Hopefully I'll get the machine this week.
-
Hopefully it'll go out early in the week. I'd love to get it before the end of the week. Maybe our laptops will share the same ride over
It'd be nice if we got double ram. -
To all those of you who patiently wait/waited. Why? Is there really nothing comparable to a lenovo thinkpad? Are they really the god of notebooks?
-
If I was looking for a bargain, it's not the laptop I would have chosen. If I was looking to get it fast is DEFINITELY wouldn't be the right choice ;-) But if your looking for a slightly more upscale laptop in a widescreen format you'd be hard pressed to find a substitiute... I did look seriously at the Fujitsu S7110, even though it isn't widescreen.
Do you have any other suggestions on substitues? I already have mine, and like it a lot, but I am curious if I overlooked a contender. -
I had ordered my z61t on 11/11 and was told it would be delayed until 1/09/07. I was very surprised when I got an email on 12/13 saying it had been shipped. I was even more surprised when it arrived at my house on 12/15.
I am very happy with it so far and believe it was worth the wait... -
regarding my z61m order placed on 11/24, here's an email I received from Lenovo yesterday:
Dear *****,
Thank you for contacting Lenovo, the makers of ThinkPad and ThinkCentre products!
Unfortunately some of the parts for Order ****** are currently not in stock and we are waiting on receiving them you order may be delayed for approximately 5 to 10 business days until we can receive those parts and get the order out to you.

We will be happy to assist at that time.
Once again thank you for contacting Lenovo.
***Please reply back to this e-mail for further assistance.***
Sincerely,
Lenovo Websales Team
I am pretty close to canceling and ordering a T60 instead. Maybe even a T60 widescreen at this point. -
I did the same. I cancelled the Z61m and ordered a T60 widescreen...In a way I am glad I am getting the thinner and lighter T60 than the Z61m..
UPS tracking says I should get my laptop tomorrow!!

I'm trying to monitor who still is waiting for a z61. It looks like the majority of the people's has shipped. So please reply if yours HAS NOT SHIPPED yet.
Thanks. -
I think I *MAY* be the first Z61M that has shipped!
Status: Shipped on 12/18/2006
Mine was ordered 11/9/2006, and I *HOPEFULLY* will have it by the end of the week! FINALLY!!!! -
Package Progress
Location Date Local Time Description
CHEK LAP KOK,HK 12/18/2006 2:24 P.M. EXPORT SCAN
12/18/2006 2:23 P.M. ORIGIN SCAN
KOWLOON BAY,HK 12/18/2006 1:55 P.M. PICKUP SCAN
HK 12/17/2006 12:33 P.M. BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED
It says delivery date is the 19th. Seems tough for it to get here in time...but we'll see. My fingers are definitely crossed. -
FYI, it took my package just a few hours longer to get from Kowloon to Boston than it took to go from 'BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED' to departing HK.
Also my UPS package tracking didn't update until it got to the US.
-
I am still waiting on my Z61M - ordered on 11/26. It's supposed to ship on 12/20 and I'll be really pissed if it does not, as I am getting really tired of waiting.
-
I ordered mine on 11/8 and it is supposed in transit, though the UPS tracking indicating that it shipped on 12/14 has not updated.
More importantly, my customer care rep confirmed today that the $300 incentive she offered to keep me from canceling my order will be credited to my CC account in 7 business days. -
So am i the only one still waiting that ordered a z61t.
-
So I presume the Z series laptops are (were) taking an extra ordinary amount of time to deliver, is this still the case? Has Lenovo solved their supply issue?
-
Waiting for your Z series laptop???
