The one that's supposed to arrive today got into the USA at around 4am! I might see this thing finally! -
Hi guys, mine is shipped on 12/13th. The UPS system shows a pickup scan on 12/14th and I don't see any updates even after 5 days. I don't know what the hell is going on. Anyone inthe same situation? Can someone give me their input?

Order Z61t 11/30
7200, 1.5 G memory, 60G HD @7200, DVD recordable
Getting tired of hearing from sales reps on how my computer was packed and ready to ship but never actually shipping. I tried calling a lenovo support rep that handled the business purchases. This person seemed very knowledgable. I asked a series of questions and this is the condensed version. My order is on "parts hold." The warehouse that stocks the shells for the Z series is completely out. The supplier said a new shipment would arrive by Dec 27. Once this happens they can catch up in a rather short period of time. Lenovo has requested to UPS that all computers once cleared through customs be up graded to 2 day shipments. I was told to expect my computer the first week of Jan.
Armed with this information I called the regular lenovo number and asked to verify what I was told. This person said that's true that 90 to 95% of the Z orders pending, were being held up because of the lack of shells. -

If all you are seeing is the pickup scan, I think something is wrong. I would Contact Lenovo and/or UPS and check.
-
Thanks mixnightinglife,
Just now I checked again and it says rescheduled to be delivered on 12/20th. UPS said the delay had something to do with the customs. All right it's time I think.............. Can't wait. -
"THE SHIPMENT IS BEING HELD BY BROKERAGE FOR REASONS BEYOND UPS' CONTROL."
AGH! How long does this take?
At least its on US Soil -- and only a few hundred miles away. -
I originally ordered my z61t on 11/08. On 11/28 I saw they had much better deals and I dropped the dvd burner (already have one, and burners are always temporary things as their votility are pretty high so I wouldn't want one in my laptop. Added 1G ram and dropped the 100G hard drive for a 40G thinking I'll upgrade it on my own. I also added the three year depot contract. Upgraded to WinXP Pro so I can have a free copy of vista. And I added bluetooth. All for the same price.
Well anyways, they failed to cancel my original order and I received that yesterday. If I opened it I would have to pay a 15% restocking fee (I called and verified this). The correct laptop will be arriving (finally) tomorrow morning! -
FYI: The status on my z61t switched today, from in process to shipped. I ordered it on 12/12.

I still have high hopes for a delivery tomorrow. -
Guess I'm calling them tomorrow since I still haven't gotten an update.
-
just incredible bad luck is all, my z61t sitting in Customs for Inspection ...
I don't get that, all the strange wrapped packages and gifts being sent around this time of year and they decide to open up the box of a brand new computer and inspect it.... if they scratch it i'll flip out .... -
Mine came in yesterday. I actually called UPS and asked them to come to my house again. They came in the morning at around 10:00am, you tell me who's at home at 10:00am. Anyways, they called me back and gave me a time to meet them so I left and met them! I didn't get any customs hold so mine shipped on the 16th or 17th over the weekend, and arrived yesterday. Not too bad at all.
Now for the laptop:
The Good...
Laptop seems nice so far. The keyboard and firmness of the hinges are exactly what I have read to expect. The Titanium case gives the laptop a nice look. I have the standard widescreen 1200x800, and I didn't spot and stuck or dead pixels, another plus! It's also amazingly quiet compared to the old toshiba and averatec I have. My 7-cell battery seems to fit tightly into the case, I just thought I'd mention that since I've read some people talking about loose batteries, but it might be a different series.
Now for the Bad...
I guess I have 3 small things to complain about. First, the "IBM/Thinkpad" logo on the Titanium case is a metal sticker. I think when the applied it, they bent it back, and thought the adhesive would stick to hold it in place. It isn't, and I keep pressing the sticker on, and after a few hours, it pops back out. A small thing, but I'll call them and ask for another sticker. Second, the palm rest area isn't as sturdy as I expected. I read so much about how well built and tough these thinkpads are supposed to be, but this area just doesn't seem to be what I expected. I mean I never had a thinkpad in the past, so I have no comparison. It's also a bit flexy. I might just be expecting too much. This, I can certainly live with. Lastly, the speakers are rather quiet. I turned them up all the way and it was a manageable level. I didn't mess around with settings, so maybe it's something small like I don't have something turned up all the way, but it's just another small thing, and I know I can live with it. I guess here's one more "bad," the laptop w/ 7-cell battery is heavier than I thought.
Summary...
I'm definitely glad I ordered and waited for this. I'd do it over again. Good luck to all who are waiting.
*EDIT
I called Lenovo asking if I could get a new sticker to replace the bent/peeling one that came with my system. They said they didn't have part numbers, and a full exchange was necessary for me to get this new sticker. He said my system would be received and refurbed for sale, and I would have to get an entirely new laptop. I'd have to wait approximately 6 weeks for this to all happen, and once again be without a laptop. I thought that's insane to exchange a good system just for a sticker. I thought in the past people have gotten bad dvd drives or batteries shipped direct to them if they came DOA. He said that if any component of the system, whether it's the keyboard, the DVD drive, or even the simple sticker is bad, I'd need to exchange an entire system, and basically place a new order! I don't want to wait 6 weeks for a new computer. I mean maybe I'm being unreasonable for wanted a $1k+ laptop to have a nice looking logo on it, but I don't think so. They can't call up the warehouse and request a sticker. He said he'll try and see what he can do and email me back. I'll update when that happens. -
Hi guys,
I finally received my Z61t (9440-D9U) today morning at 10.49 am. I ordered it on 11/14th after doing lot of research and it finally came on 12/20th after 36 days. The system looks awesome. I would say it's worth the wait. However this statement doesn't justify the way Lenovo is dealing with the customers. Lenovo, being the third largest PC producer in the world (after taking over the PC division of IBM) should do much better I think in terms of cutomer service.
Just 2 concerns:
1. No. of processes way high. ( I can deal with this)
2. Flex on the right hand side of the system near the DVD drive is too much. you can just press with a finger and it doesn't feel strong in that area. (one comment to mtnkbr's view, i feel the palm rest area is not too bad).
Good luck for all those who are still waiting. Those who already received theirs enjoy!!!!!!!!!! -
That is absolutely ridiculous... For all the hell you went thru (we went thru) they should send someone to your house to replace it...
It sounds like they are trying to handle it as an exchange. I wonder if it would be different if you tried to get it fixed thru the warranty. At the least I would expect them to let you hold onto your laptop until an exchange model was available.
So, um, what's under the sticker? Is it more metal, or is it a cutout that shows plastic behind it? I'm kinda anti-label and was thinking of replacing it with something clever... If I could actually think of something clever ;-)
After having it for about a week now I have to say it was a good purchase. I've got the DVI passthru working with the dock and it drives my 1680x1050 display very well. Fedora Core 6 was a bit of a pain to work out, but it's now running happily... All and all, it's an excellent laptop.

Still waiting on ship for my z61m. Decided not to change my order. I couldn't price anything comparable in the T60 WS that wasn't 500 bucks more. The marginal size difference wasn't worth it.
Ship date on the site is now 01/01/07, but we all know that means nothing.
Having just bought a built to order Dell last year, I can say that Lenovo needs some work on their site to come even close to the level of detail that Dell shows you throughout your order life cycle. It's pretty obvious that their supply chain management needs some work too. They are losing business because of stuff like this. A lot of it, I bet. I won't buy a Dell again because of customer service issues, and wasn't that interested in the alternatives, so I'm sticking with my order. For now. -
Do you think anybody from Lenovo reads these threads?
-
my Z61t finally arrived today, I LOVE it worth the wait, VERY NICE machine, this machine will be a huge seller i'm sure, i can't beleive the keyboard -awesome !!
-
Just a guess.. but I would say that someone does monitor the larger forums. I'm sure they are all aware of the calls, the posts, the unhappy end users and the ups and downs. The activity here is probably only a reflection of what they already know. -
I asked about what if I request this after the 21-day exchange period and was told I'd be out of luck at that point. I need to do something about it now, or else get nothing! I'm still waiting to hear from the Lenovo guy I spoke with, but he did reply to me saying he's still looking into it.
I'm pretty sure it's metal under the cover, and not plastic. If pulled off, it would leave you with a recessed section on your titanium cover. I personally like the sticker, and want a new one! A SIMPLE REQUEST IMHO. I will let you all know what happens.
-
Mine did come today. Arrived at 9:00AM at my company. Between working today I started the install. It now has Vista installed. I only have one install issue -- Cam doesn't seem to work in Vista. Oh well, I'll either figure it out, or live without.
Other than that, I like it.
I do have two other issues: They didn't ship my extra A/C adapter and my warranty only shows one year, though I purchased an extended warranty.
Overall, very good quality. -
I will receive my Z61t today as well. Can you guys tell me what I need to check for to make sure the machine is working well? Sorry if this is off topic. Thanks.
-
Called them up, they said the build date should have been the 14th on the computer but they don't know why it hasn't been built and/or shipped.
-
I am getting REALLY annoyed with Lenovo and keep thinking of canceling my order and ordering a Compal HEL80 or something. -
Our order shouldn't stay "In Process" The entire time. It should be "In Process", "Build Date Estimated: XX/XX/XX", "Build Started: XX/XX/XX", "Invoiced and Packaged: XX/XX/XX", "Shipped XX/XX/XX". -
Sadly, it isn't even a new issue! You read posts and info from a year ago and more and they still had those same issues even then!
Google is eye opening to the problems Lenovo has had. -
I couldn't agree more. Just be forthright, explain the situation and the vast majority of the people will try and understand the circumstances. Instead in my case the sales rep tell's me that my computer has been built and ready to ship...for the last week????
So I'm playing the game, calling them everday in my happiest voice asking if its been shipped? Of course I know the real reason.... they have no shells in the Z series until Dec 27, but apparently my sales rep is not privy to this information. Or he's not letting on. -
Get in touch with a complaints supervisor... You won't get the laptop any quicker, but you can get 10% off, or 6 months on your waranty...
-
Joex, coulnd't agree with you more. I got 10% off. The complaint manager was honestly the only one I've dealt with during this whole process who actually seemed to care, or even attempted to be straight with me. December 27th is going to be a busy day in Lenovo-land...unless, of course, they don't get the shipment of shells in!
-
Would anyone care to PM me their order number and order date if you've successfully gotten Lenovo to give you 10% off your order to keep you from canceling? I called Lenovo, telling them that my "friend" got 10% off due to shipment delays and they asked me for the order number.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! -
This was my first and last purchase of a Lenovo product. I sincerely regret my original purchase decision. -
At what point is it reasonable to ask for the 10% off? How long must you wait before you can even think about it? The laptop I'm still waiting for was ordered on Nov 30, and was assured that it would built this week (18th Dec), and ship out this week. It's Friday, and certainly doesn't look like it'll go. I spoke to a rep and they said it looks like early January, but they've performed miracles in the past, so maybe sometime next week. He even acknoledged it's good for them so they can report the sale on 2006.
How do I go about getting a discount? Call up and ask for a complaints supervisor immediately? Then go ask say "I wasnt 10% for the trouble you've caused me"? -
I called the standard number (866-42-Think) at least 10 times over the first 5 weeks after I placed my order. When it was apparent that the reps I spoke with had no accurate and usually conflicting info I asked what my options were to express my frustration. I was told the rep could file a formal complaint on my behalf and that a complaint representative (not sure of the exact title) would contact me within 1-2 business days. We exchanged voice mails several times with her giving me updated info on the build status each time (of course, that never changed and still is stuck at 01/04/07). When we finally spoke in person, she was very understanding and told me she'd completely understand if I cancelled. I told her the reason I ordered the z61t is that it really was the only machine with everything I needed. She appreciated my desire to continue waiting and extended the 10% on her own. I didn't ask for it.
Now, did I get lucky? Perhaps. Then again I saw earlier posts where some people got $300 off (a hell of a lot more than my 10% btw). I suspect any form of compensation is at the sole discretion of the rep you deal with and I don't think the Level I reps can even do it. They're the ones getting all the heat from customers so naturally they're the most unpleasant to deal with.
My advice is to ask to file a formal complaint, and when you do get in touch with a complaint rep be very polite. I took a few deep breaths before every call I made. Remember, it's a supply shortage and the people on the phone have NO control at all of how quick the parts get to the factory. I sound like an old fashioned ninny, but in this case you really do get more flies with honey. Be calm and explain why you're upset. We all chose the Thinkpad because of the rep of the machine, and make that clear to them. Sorry to sound like Ms. Manners, but I do think it helps.
As for my order #...I'd rather not get some spiteful rep pull my discount. If that's being callous, I apologize. I don't even know if they would or could do it, but at this point the discount is the only think keeping my frustration in check.
Good luck. -
I'm Impressed! Lenovo has changed their ship dates on the Z61t models to "3to 4 weeks." Thats a lot more accurate than the "1 to 2 weeks" posted earlier.
-
Yeah - that's a step in the right direction. Interestingly, the Z61m & Z61p both still say 1-2 weeks despite no one on this forum receiving theirs in less than 4 weeks. Only the Z61t says 3-4 weeks.
Lenovo still has a LOT to learn about transparency! -
FWIW... my 9440D6U Z61t shipped out today, 12/22. Ordered 12/9, pretty close to the 10-days originally quoted on the website.
This is a C2D 7200, ti shell, standard display, bluetooth, dvdrw, 120gb hdd.
Also have an X tablet on order, hopefully will ship before year end... -
Who do you know? LOL I ordered my Z61t on 11/30. My computer is on "parts hold." On the positive, they say I'm near the front of the line.
-
I was surprised at how quickly they got to it. Nothing special except EPP discount.
-
However, I don't see any discount on the electronic receipt. I wonder if anyone actually got them. I'll be content knowing at least the system is in transit and should be at work when I get back in a few days. Then I'll call the complaint rep and see what's going on with the "discount". Hopefully there won't need to be any other calls about dead pixels, loose keys, etc... -
Congratulations!! It gives the rest of us Z pending orders hope... LOL. I have high expectations for next week! (keeping fingers crossed)
-
I can't remember, does Lenovo offer 1-day shipping? Cause hell, if they're upgrading people with Ground shipping to 2-day I would hope they would upgrade people that paid for 2-day to Overnight, if not at least refund me the price.
-
Mine was upgraded for free to expidited. It made it here within 1 day of shipping from HK.

Waiting for your Z series laptop???
