Why Lenovo offer students discount if it is business line laptops????? Does students have corporate account to buy "BUSINESS LINE laptops"??
Who is such smart to read review of Playstation2 before buying Playstation3? Do you buy a car just by reading last year model review????
Of course, the person who pay the money is the boss!
How many good companies finally get buy out or merge?
Even a rich country mayl go to recession. Last model of product is top rank doesn't mean next product is to be good too! Will you "bet all your assert" on next release model? Just look at Vista which took 6 years, and how many people willing to upgrade from XP to Vistat. Not counting those PC preinstall Vista which is no choice for customers!
I did see T61 with low end spec at local store, but none for T400/T500 at all.
May be the directors of Lenovo manage their marketing department like the way you think.
HP used to be making "pure" business notebook too, why HP change the way how to do marketing?
I am not fan of any brands of notebooks, but I need to spend the money reasonable. Visit this web site to read some nice persons' posted using the fact and truth.
Kevin is a nice and smart person, he never told people that "buy other brand if you cannot wait". He just try his best to post review as fast as possible. He uses the "fact" the pics to let users rate the quality of Lenovo by themselve.
I thought NotebookReview is for people PEACEFULLY discuss/comment only on the notebooks and Brands, not comment on people comment.

Because a student's needs are similar to a businessman's needs. Both require similar system specifications.
It's like how Vista Business is more appropriate than Vista Home Premium for a student. -
I'm sorry but thankinfo, your posts have many grammar mistakes in them. To the point where it is frustrating for me to read. I'm assuming you must be new(ish) to the english language. But I would recommend working out the kinks before you go trying to prove your various points to people.
-
I can't wait for Kevin's full review of the T400. I'm just slightly (who am I kidding... VERY) envious of him and the abc fellow who already have the notebook!
It's a shame that Intel couldn't release their chipset earlier... -
I KNOW! ive been freaken waiting ALLLL summer for this sucker to get to me...
-
I'm also curious about this keyboard thing, is the flex noticeable while typing?
-
someone suggested a video...ohhhh kevin???
pretty please to see the flex in action -
Just because his english isn't perfect doesn't mean he's not right.
I'm more sorry for you since someone with any real proficiency in english should be able to understand thankinfo's comments with ease. It would be nice if you could respect a person's opinion (and his opinion does have a great deal of merit) instead of bashing him for being new to a language. We're here to discuss computers, not poke fun at others' style of writing. -
It's definitely wrong to attack someone just because he has a poor grasp of the language. That being said, thankinfo is obviously trolling.. I am surprised you didn't catch it.
An example:
"Why Lenovo offer students discount if it is business line laptops????? Does students have corporate account to buy "BUSINESS LINE laptops"??""
Because there are business students?
-
Maybe that was a bit harsh. thankinfo was all over chen for some reason and when I read that post last night I was pissed. Scotch makes me easily agitated what can I say. Anyways, can't wait to see some full T400/T500 reviews!

T500 should be going up tomorrow as long as nothing blows up.
-
Looking forward to it
-
I can't decide if thats a good or bad thing for the T400.... lol
-
Any word on a W500 review?
-
how does t500 review come out before t400
not that i mind, i prefer the t500 -
T400 son!!!!!!!
-
T500 is the bigger brother, it makes sense.
-
T400 has more popular points.
edit: I don't care if the T500 review come first...i only need a review of the new T series. Pleaseee, i'm dying, and so it is my F5.... have mercy Kevin!
PS: no pressure man. *hides an AK 47. Really -
NBR T500 review:

Because students have the money to buy them.....what company is stupid enough not to sell something to those people who could buy them
It's only for people like you who is impatient....not for people like me who could wait for the review
You are not making any point....I told you that if you could not wait.....it's the only choice for you....not for me and for those people who could wait...btw....it's Intel fault for delaying....not Lenovo
The problem with people's reluctance to upgrade to VISTA is that it is not worth it, their computer slows down by it, and for some it's in their head.... and talking about facts......people were just as unwilling to upgrade to XP when it first came out.
We all know that
If that's true then I would already have been working in their company for money and not paying money to learn.
Simple business, demand and supply (consumers demand it, HP supply it) and marketing....more consumers buying laptop not just only business people
You really need to work on your grammar, still I respect your decision and hope that you are happy with your new FW....btw....they are nice laptops...but I prefer performance and build quality
We all know that.....and we all appreciate the work Kevin is doing to please us and the rest of the people who are waiting for their new T400/T500 or to buy their new T400/T500
We were all peaceful until you came along and started trolling...you are posting here that Lenovo is not as good as Sony or HP (but did you buy the new T400 yet to have a right to say it?)....I respect your opinion....but do you see me going to Sony to post that it is not as good as other brands or that the new FW does not give good battery life and too overpriced? We don't do this thing....it's called trolling.....and we don't do it! -
Chen, you DO have patience.

With battery tests that last 9 hours and 41 minutes (muahahahahahaha) I want to make sure I take my time on things
-
everyone is skeptical about that battery and its longevity
-
Hey Kevin, could you try some heavy gaming under battery and please tell us whether it can go over ~4hours
Thanks!
-
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
That was the official number for my review in integrated graphics mode, 60% brightness, wireless on, etc on the 9 cell. That is going in my review on Monday.
In dedicated mode it looks like it might come up around 8 hours or so, but still got 3-4 hours to go before the battery is dead. Then it is time for the 6 cell test, lol.
Attached are some images of the T400 outside in max brightness on a super sunny day here in Ohio. ~93F and my eyes were strained. I would have to say YES to sunlight readable

I think he was talking about the server issues NBR was having.
-
just what i wanted to know. awesome pics, thx kevin.
-
Is there a way to automatically force the integrated card to be used when on batteryand vice versa?
-
wow... nice. How long is the batterylife in this 100% mode?
(and how long does it take to kill the battery if you make a torture test on cpu and/or gpu?)
thanks chrissy -
Lenovo uses a software-based solution that automatically changes from dedicated to integrated on battery. The flimsy keyboard is very disappointing though...
-
You have your T400 in your hands? Others have posted that they saw little flex; far from "flimsy". Your experience is different?
-
nice picture Kevin....good to know that I can use it to work outside...
-
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
From what I can tell, no. Could be wrong (was the first time) but it is only in one spot in the submenu of the power manager, and only a toggle between each mode. Nothing for like "in battery mode do this, in AC mode do that". -
Kevin, do you believe that T400 is the best 14inch laptop???
Sorry folks, but I love polls! -
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
I cant think of anything else in the 14" range that is equal or better.
-
I'm glad that it's about as good as it gets
-
Or as cheap...
....comparing to what you are getting
-
That's quite a definitive statement. Expect to be quoted on that a few more times.
-
I second that, I used the T400 on battery and the discrete graphics card but it didnt automatically switch.
No options for auto switch too, as far as I can see. -
Quick question for Kevin: Does the T400 accept PC2-5300 memory chips too? Have you tried plugging 4GB of PC2-5300 modules into the memory slots? Will they fit?
-
DDR3 and DDR2 aren't pin compatible so it won't fit.
-
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
Its easy to backup
Right now my T400 configuration that I am going back and forth about buying costs less than 1,110 with 3 year warranty and the following options:
P8400 processor
ATI 3470 w GDDR3
WXGA+ LED Display
1GBx2 DDR3
80GB
fingerprint reader
Intel 5100 and Bluetooth
ATT WWAN
9 Cell battery that gets almost 10 hours of life
Show me any other notebook with comparable spec for 1,110 bucks with speed of this notebook, battery life, business grade quality, etc.
Oh and right now Dell's option which I have not seen yet has a base configuration price already above the Lenovo mark, questionable dedicated graphics card, and a laughable "all day" battery that costs FOUR HUNDRED dollars extra. -
Amen.
Also kevin, I would suggest you to upgrade the wireless card and buy an extra 1 gb ram stick, because is cheaper on lenovo.com (lol, the amateur trying to guide the master). As you can see, I learn a lot in this forum
-
By upgrading the wireless card, do you mean he should pick the 5300 instead of the 5100? Perhaps the 5300 draws more power (uses more antennas) so battery life would suffer a little compared to the 5100.
-
Kevin, I learned that some memory slots accept both pc2-5300 and pc3-8500 memory modules. Is this the case with T400? Do you have 4GB of PC2-5300 memory around to see if they fit in the new T400?
-
Do you have any sources to confirm this backwards compatibility? DDR3 DIMMs have 240 pins, the same number as DDR2, and are the same size, but are electrically incompatible and have a different key notch location (from here via Wikipedia).
On another note, I've seen a bunch of people refer to configurations of the T400 with an ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 instead of the 3640 listed on the Lenovo website right now. Is this disparity the work of another notorious Lenovo.com typo, or are there two different versions of the T400? -
Well I bought the T400 myself but would love to see a comparison with the HP Elitebook 6930p which I almost bought! However with a similar configuration the Lenovo is cheaper and definitely good enough for me
!
-
It's a typo. And they aren't fixing it, for some reason.
-
Maybe because they know that large and rather complex numbers ( not talking about Maths there
)
arouse the average Joe
D) and thus they won't care to correct the 170 units difference between the 2 references to enjoy an increased 5% sales based on a lie... ouuhhh
-
This is not true at all. Memory slots can only take DDR2 or DDR3, not both. Notebooks will only use one type. Some desktops have slots for both, but still they are incompatible (ie. you can only use the DDR2 in that slot and the DDR3 in the other).
Where are the reviews for the T400/T500/W500 - DEAD - DEAD
