Wow. Warcraft II Battlenet edition still runs --on 64-bit Win7 Ultimate.
Sorry, I was just bored and unlike many games, WC2 works really nice with the Trackpoint. -
Blizzard is one of the rare development companies that produce quality products. Quality as in technical quality. They tend to run fine (without any problems) far further than their lifetime was expected.
-
-
It is true that they take their time at Blizzard
But working in the software industry, I have just seen too many times products released on a "schedule", and then comes the realization: it is nowhere near complete or bug/error free
To relate that to Windows 7 (after all this thread is about that) I was very glad Microsoft released Windows 7 betas and rcs to the broad public. I really think that helped to shape the final product, and I am quite sure many bugs were found this way that would otherwise have caused problems when the rtm arrived in stores and people started using it.

For anyone having power consumption issues, Win7 has a neat program that measures your power efficiency and tells you if there are any issues. I had been having problems and it turned out that my power management driver was not functioning. I've since reinstalled it and my battery life has returned to what it was in Vista.
For instructions, look here.
Does anyone know why Power Manager and the Windows battery meter calculate the remaining time differently? Right now PM has 6:35 remaining, while Windows claims 6:54. -
has anyone tried to install win7 64bit to Thinkpad X61? After upgrading to win7, is it possible to change also the recovery image in the Rescue and Recovery program? So everytime I wanted a fresh install I just press the Rescue and Recovery and it goes back to win7. Thanks
-
I tried finding a Windows 7 driver for 11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter II by Lenovo - for a Thinkpad R500. So far I couldn't find one could anyone help me?
Thank you.
Also I "bought" the Lenovo free upgrade on their site before it even came out, and got no answer ever since, did anyone else experience that? -
I've noticed recently that I can only adjust the screen brightness (Fn+Home and Fn+End) for a while after starting win7. Sometime after hibernating once or twice, the screen brightness stops working--no on-screen display and not lightening or darkening of the display. Restarting win7 will return the functionality but after a hibernate or two, it disappears again.
I must have installed something which clobbered the drivers, but I don't know which Lenovo driver or utility controls this. What should I reinstall? -
-
I have win 7 enterprise 64bit version on my x61. Works fine other than one weird issue. That battery just goes dead at around an hour left. This is with the power manager installed and everything test fine. who knows. Install win 7 and enjoy.

T60 15" WSXGA+ T7600 4GB DDR2 WD5000BEVT ATI X1400 Win 7 Pro 32-bit machine.
ATI has moved Mobility Radeon X1400 to legacy support. Their legacy drivers don't install on Windows 7; even in compatibility mode and/ or Mobility Modder. Catalyst Control Center wont install. Add/ Remove Programs say CCC is installed, but the folder in which it should go - is empty!
So, right now I cant use my VGA out - external monitor/ projector doesn't see a signal - nada.
The X1400 driver that came with Windows 7 from Microsoft supports the native WSXGA+ on my laptop and thats it.
I have had to resort to a Ubuntu Live CD to run a few presentations with Open Office/ PDF. -
I bought a new drive. I have ordered another hard drive shell off ebay so I can run different OS's without having to actually dual boot. I also have a Samsung SSD 64 gig drive in one of my dells that I might end up using. I'm pretty curious to see what the speed is after I read some posting about the Sata interface being limited to only 1.5 instead of 3. When I get everything sorted out I will end up using acronis to image the drives or maybe ghost. I'm not a big fan of the "blue button" since it eats up so much space. Half of the HD space on my X300's 64 gig SSD drive is recovery. Seems pretty wasteful. let me know if you have any other questions.

Not amazed that for the SL series, no audio, modem, and cam drivers are available.
Of course, W7 has generic drivers however it is always nice to have the full package.
hitman 36: Install Lenovo Care. The Vista drivers work perfectly fine and will enable the blue button again. But if all you want is recovery, the recovery discs do the exact same thing. Personally, I have no use for the blue button whatsoever. -

Hey everyone. I have a T400 that I am currently running Vista 64 on. I tried the W7 RC on this laptop several months ago. At that point there was no switchable graphics driver beta available from Lenovo and my battery life under W7 was significantly lower than under Vista. Since W7 has finally been released and Lenovo has a switchable graphics driver out there, has the situation improved? I don't want to switch to W7 if my battery life is going to go down. I noted a few posts on here that people were saying they are still having issues with battery life under W7. I wanted to see if it has been corrected. I don't want to have to resort to swithcing graphics with a reboot in the bios to get things working under W7. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks again.
-
I assume you use the integrated intel gpu when on battery? On the W500, I have found a problem with the integrated gpu part of the switchable graphics driver, which runs too hot - if so, that would reduce battery life. Due to issue, I use the dedicated gpu most of the time in preference. Not ideal. But there are too many other things which are so much better on Win7 that should make the switch worthwhile, IMHO. I assume Lenovo will fix the graphics driver soon...
-
I was originally having battery issues with my T400 and Win7.
First, the switchable graphics driver does not work properly when coming out of sleep or hibernation, and it causes both the integrated and dedicated cards to run. This can be fixed by switching the graphics manually to high performance, and then back to energy saving. A bit of a pain, but hopefully this will be fixed soon with an update and the workaround is easy enough.
My second issue was that the power management driver did not install correctly. Windows installed this automatically, I ended up uninstalling it and getting it from Lenovo directly. Win7 has a neat power efficiency program that I ran in order to find this issue, its #9 here.
With these two issues fixed, my battery life has returned to its Vista levels, and maybe even slightly better. -
A new Lenovo Intel gpu driver came out today on their site (at least for W500; I suppose also for others?). I have no idea whether it will help fix these issues...but worth upgrading, IMHO

guys on your newer model TPs have you been able to get Password Manager in the Thinkvantage CSS 8.3 software to work?
-
I have not been able to get it to work on my T61p though I chalked it up to user error. I've not used it before installing it on my fresh Win7x64.

Does Hotkey util work for X200? I updated to latest patch and it wouldn't let me mute, although up and down works.
Edit: I tried rolling back to default factory version, reinstall new version, etc... now it shows the hotkey volume bar but it doesn't let me mute..
I only can up/down the volume meter. -

A few notes from my Windows 7 installation. (Note: I did not upgrade but did a clean install instead).
Specs: Lenovo T500 2242-CTO ThinkPad, 3GB RAM, Intel 5100 AGN, Bluetooth
I learned a few things after my third reload:
- You must install the Lenovo System Interface Driver before the Hotkey/On Screen Display software. The latest System Inferface Driver does not automatically install after unpacking and you must install it manually. (Go to c:\Drivers\Win\SMIIF\setup.exe and run it.) Then after that install the Hotkey software, otherwise the OSD does not work properly and the mute button won't work at all.
- Avoid the Lenovo "Toolbox," to me it was annoying and it was constantly using the processor and RAM and did not really add any value to the system. The old black menu that would pop up when pressing the "ThinkVantage" button was of more value. Everything in the "Toolbox" can be accomplished through other means.
- When installing the Wireless driver be sure to select "Custom" and click the Gray box next to "Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility" and select "Not Available." If you don't and stick with the regular settings the ThinkVantage Access Connections utility won't work. Unfortunately this means you can't use the Intel MyWiFi technology but Access Connections is more valuable to me than MyWiFi... pick your battle here.
- When I got my upgrade media from Lenovo it came with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-Bit. I thought I'd be smart and use the 64-bit media I already had with the key code I got from Lenovo. This was fine, but the 64-bit version made my T500 run A LOT hotter and the fan was pretty high almost constantly even after I customized the profile in the ThinkVantage Power Manager. Lesson learned... if you don't NEED 64-bit, might as well not have it. Under 32-bit, the T500 runs almost as cool and quiet. (I still think the fan might run a little bit more than it did in Vista but it's A LOT quieter than it was in 64-bit).
- You need to install Intel AMT even if you don't have a vPro chip (not sure why this is) otherwise you'll have an Unknown device in the Device Manager.
- The Monitor INF needs to be manually installed. Unpack the file after downloading it from Lenovo, then right-click on Desktop > Screen Resolution > Advanced > Monitor > Driver > Update Driver and then pick the location where the INF was unpacked to (Should be "C:\DRIVERS\WIN\MONITOR").
Everything else went well... I installed all Drivers, ThinkVantage Access Connections, ThinkVantage Power Manager, Rescue and Recovery, Hotkeys, and Active Protection System. All are working properly.
A side note (not Windows 7's fault): I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade my hard drive since I was going to do a clean install. Didn't work out so well for me. I bought a WD Scorpio Blue 320GB (WD3200BEVT) to replace my WD Scorpio Blue 160GB (WD1600BEVS) that came with my system. The 320GB was very loud at idle (so loud at idle that when it was actually doing something it wasn't much louder). Needless to say, since I like a quiet notebook I swapped the 160GB back in and am dealing with the space issue. (Okay... it wasn't all bad, it forced me to start archiving some of my files).
Hope my experience helps someone! -
I did a clean install of Windows 7 today on my 64-bit T400.
Everything works fine except for The screen is dimmer than normal, and the brightness buttons do nothing. Along with the volume buttons do nothing. Is there a driver I need. I looked through the list of drivers on lenovo's site and installed a few and none have fixed it.
Any help is appreciated. -
anyone can help?
-
UPDATE: Installed System interface THEN reinstalled hotkeys.
Volume controls now show up and work perfectly.
BUT the screen brightness shows up on the screen but the brightness doesnt actually change. -

W7 has been running smoothly on my T400 for a while now. No issues, bugs or problems encountered.
-
I've been running Windows 7 since the end of October, I'm still having issues with Lenovo's switchable graphics driver. It appears to activate both the integrated and the ATI after coming out of standby. Anyone know if they've released an update yet?
Other than that, Windows 7 has been great on my T400
Thanks, -
Just clean installed win7 prof 64bit. However I cannot install the matrix storage driver. Everytime I hit install it says "error occured while copying file iaStor.sys" What am I doing wrong? I tried driver update and it says my driver is up to date. How can this be when I haven't even installed them?
-
You might want to try installing the yet-to-be-released "Intel rapid storage technology" driver instead. I've installed it with Win7 and got a noticeable performance increase as benchmarked with IOMeter and CDM.

But I do hope that they go beyond just fixing this "both graphics cores active at the same time" bug.
Because I miss the very very long times on battery with 9cell in T500 that were possible in Vista. Under W7, even with the Intel graphics core active the system seems to use up more power than in Vista. This was another issue a few people reported. -
The only issue I am currently having is when I dock my t400 while its running. Everything works perfect except the external DVI monitor. I can sometimes switch the GPU and fix it, but sometimes that causes it to black the screen out for a while or until I shut it off. Pain for swapping from my easy chair to my desk.
-
It became a hassle to switch back and forth every time, so I completely disabled the ATI graphics for the time being. Using integrated with Windows 7, I'm managing about 10-11 hours of battery life with basic word processing and note taking in classes. It comes to about 7 watts consumption, which I'm very happy with.
-
No system update. I manually downloaded only the drivers I need. I don't want thinkvantage and anything else that would take up space...
-
-
Thanks! I'll give that a try.

Does anyone have the Thinkpad Bluetooth Laser Mouse working properly?
The drivers from lenovo.com/windows7beta work for the mouse but somehow interferes with the wifi. As in the wifi does not work after installing the bluetooth mouse driver. I also tried to just pair the mouse with the computer without and drivers and the same thing happened.
Installing the Vista drivers make both the wifi and the BT mouse work, but my network connections in the notification area always has a big red x on it. But if I leave the mouse pointer over the icon, a tooltip will appear telling me which network I'm on and whether or not I have internet access. Clicking on the icon will also display all the nearby networks. So clearly it works. It's just that the icon isn't correct.
I've been living with this for a week or so now and it just drives me crazy.
Is this a known problem? Has something like this ever surfaced before?
If it helps I'm on a T61 with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Sorry for the essay.
