Could anyone please help me, I've tried to install rescue and recovery but it always gives the error 25014.
I've googled it but no one seems to know a solution.
The strange thing is that it did work before reinstalled my computer. I had Windows 7 Professional before and now I have ultimate. Both 64 bit.

One thing that also bothers me thats not really windows 7 based problem (I think) is that I'm getting an annoying sound, a fan is stopping for 1 microsecond and then continues

Which thinkpad model do you have?

I have had this fan issue on an X200 since I first received it. It is annoying but I don't think it is a real problem...nevertheless, I'd love to figure out what the problem is. In my case, the fan has behaved the same on Vista, Win7 beta(s), and Win7 RC (all 32-bit).

check to see if ACHI is enabled in the BIOS... you may have "compatibility mode" set, that error comes up when ACHI or RAID are not enabled through the bios.

On a T500 I am having a problem with the OSD brightness indicator not displaying. The Thinklight and Volume indicators display fine.

Anyone know what to do to fix it?

Also did Lenovo replace the ThinkVantage Productivity Center with the ThinkVantage Toolbox? When I tried to download what I thought was the Productivity Center it installed the Toolbox.

You probably have one or more missing driver. Either use System Update 4 from Lenovo or make sure the following drivers are all installed:

    • System interface driver
    • Hotkey driver
    • ThinkPad Power Management driver

I've run System Update 4 and it returns with No packages applicable to your system were found.

So I think I have the drivers you've mentioned.

I found something on the Net about downgrading the Intel graphics driver by installing the official Lenovo version. I did this and my problem was solved.

I tried the drivers on ATI's site for a T400 - ATI Radeon 3400. Unfortunately they did not work properly.

Switching to the ATI card would cause all the icons, taskbar, etc. to disappear. The Intel graphics worked properly.

I ended up using the "Windows Update" drivers. Now it switches on the fly like it should, no more icon/taskbar issues when using the ATI card.

On a side note, does Windows 7 power management system override Lenovo's program? If so how can I turn off Windows' power manager?

Well, I finally made the plunge and got Win7 even though I had battery life issues under RC1 Win7 when I tried it. I have a T400 with switchable graphics. The batter life issues are still there. I am pulling 12watts under Win7 using the Intel graphics, the backlight set to just 3 bars and Wifi Off. I was pulling around 8 watts under Vista. Its basically taken 1/3 off my battery life. Any ideas on things I can do to fix this? Or do I just have to wait for Lenovo to update their drivers again... Thanks

installed win 7 64bit lastnight, everything seems working perfectly :) finally my 4g ram can fully go online - win7 is incredibly fast!!

BUT!!!the cpu whining voice (which disappeared when it was with Vista32) is seriously killing me now :( :( :( Rmclock has no effect at all!!!

edit :eek:k,problem seems gone?? :D i installed all the AMT patches(manually by going into C:\DRIVERS\WIN open AMT and AMTSOL and install the drivers respectively )for the missing PCI controllers(two of them showed up from the device manager).

now one last thing to be perfect is the video driver update which probably needed for getting my game to run fit to my screen.

You are not alone with this problem. And yes, you will need to wait for Lenovo to release new drivers.

If you really need the battery life you can switch to Integrated card in BIOS (losing switchable graphics sadly :( ) - at least I read that for some people it restored the low power consumption.

Does anyone have experience making the Artheros Wifi card(T400 - Thinkpad wifi III) work with windows 7. Drivers are missing in the driver matrix for Windows 7.

This is the 802.11 b/g Artheros card(not the realtek card).

Did either of you guys try to install a fan control program?
I like very quiet computers and I did not like the sound level of the fan in my T400, particularly after I put in an SSD.

I use a program called TPFanControl which does a great job in controlling the sound level while still keeping the computer cool.

I actually discovered this program when I had an issue with my previous ThinkPad (T61) which had an extremely noisy fan. I ended up replacing the fan but until I did the program was a great help.

    Here is the link: http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/donate.html

It works great under Windows 7.

For a Ubuntu fans there is what appears to be a similar program here: http://www.gamess.org/mediawiki/index.php/ThinkPad_Fan_Control
I do not have Ubuntu so I can not vouch for this one.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've used TPFC before and it works fine but I don't find it is needed on the X200 since the fan is so quiet.

My problem is not that the fan is loud, but rather that is "pulses" intermittently. The only consequence is that the fan noise is not constant and therefore can be a bit annoying. It is still quiet though.

I had this problem a few times myself: In most cases putting the machine into sleep and waking it up again fixes the problem. Once my driver somehow broke, making it impossible to go to dedicated graphics - system restore helped me here.

EDIT: Lenovo, please update the switchable graphics driver. The high energy consumption and some of the bugs (e.g. the one mentioned here) are REALLY annoying.

    Greetz!

Woke it up from sleep mode and still nothing on the desktop. I have my wallpaper and that is it. No options or anything. Any ideas? I dont want to force shut it down but I dont know what other options I have.

I can press control alt del but the screen goes blank. However if i press enter I can log off(I think thats what it does) and log back on by pressing enter again. It still doesn't help my problem though.

    Hi all,

Just upgraded my T400 from Vista Business to Win7 Pro 64-bit, and surprisingly enough I've ran into a problem.

My wireless (Intel 5300) keeps dropping the connection randomly, which is hellar annoying, and which was never a problem under Vista.

I'm using driver v. 13.0.0.107 for the wifi and win7 is fully updated.

I've tried both with and without Access Connections installed. It's the same result. AC is currectly not installed.

    Any ideas?

    Hello,

I just upgraded my T400 from Vista Business 64 to Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit. I know about the switchable graphics problem but is anyone getting a heat issue as well? It wasn't even warm before but now it's actually uncomfortable to have on my lap.

    Any suggestions?

it sounds like your laptop is running both graphics cards at the same time. Switch to the Intel one in BIOS and see if that helps

Okay, I switched from DHCP to static ip on my wifi, and it's been running for 12hours+ without any disconnects.

Must be a bug in the drivers between the access point and my wifi, because there was no issue at all under Vista.

Start, control panel, hardware and sound, device manager and then display adapters should get you there.

I did this and under display adapters the only thing that shows is "Mobile Intel(R)
4 Series Express Chipset Family". I cannot find anything would have anything to do with my ATI graphics card. I know I have one because I was using it on XP and I customized this laptop.

I also, tried switching to discrete graphics in the bios and it booted into what looked like safe mode but looked to be fully functional.(I didnt keep it that way long. I rebooted and switched back to integrated.)

My guess would be that I have the wrong driver installed for my graphics card or none at all possibly looking at device manager.

Can someone help me with these windows 7 drivers for my Ideapad y450a:

Here are the contents from the specific-for-ideapad-Y-series drivers disc disc:

Which ones should I go for?

I've already installed the appropriate graphics card drivers from the nvidia website and i think windows has auto-installed bluetooth + wifi drivers.

^You should check out device manager and see what devices are showing up as undetected, then install the driver for that device. Or, if you prefer the Lenovo drivers to Windows 7 drivers, you do have the option to just install all of them.

I've just switched over from Vista to Win 7 smoothly on my W500. Pretty sure I'm getting better battery life.

This happened to me as well. I went into the bios and switched it to discrete only and when I logged in, it looked like what you probably saw. I went to the device manager and noticed a caution sign next to the display adapter, which said to reboot. Fixed that problem for me.

Is anyone else having issues with the wireless internet in Windows 7? I have a T500 with the intel 5100 wireless card, and I've installed the drivers for it from system update. Sometimes the internet seems fine, other times it is completely unusable except for basic web-browsing. Like right now, webpages load somewhat slowly and I am getting a 400-600ms ping on tests and in games.

I tried plugging an ethernet cable directly into my laptop and all of the internet related issues disappear, so I know it is related to the wireless. I also keep getting windows messages saying that my "Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard" has stopped working properly because there are no drivers for it.

Has anyone else experienced this/been able to fix this?

Edit: I checked System Update one more time and found a modem update or something along those lines. I installed it along with Access Connections (which doesn't seem to be doing anything) and now everything seems to be working fine.

I've stayed away from Access Connections in Windows 7.

I had it installed on my T500 under Vista and then on Windows 7 but noticed on both it would sometimes change the connection from my wireless router to a thing called Window Wireless Service (or something like this).

I don't know what caused this to happen but once it did performance was severely degraded until I manually reconnected to my wireless router.

Right now I am using what comes with Windows 7. The only thing lacking is the cool directional map of where the visible wireless points are located.

Just giving some update now that I have Win 7 Ultimate, not RC..

It seems like what's available on Lenovo driver page doesn't seem to solve this problem.

Fortunately, I kept all my Windows 7 Lenovo beta drivers. By installing Intel AMT 4.2 beta driver solved the problems and I updated to latest version using firmware available on Lenovo site.

It seems like there are some problem if you manually install drivers. So far, I've ran into problems with connecting bluetooth mouse, Intel AMT, and fingerprint software (sensor issue).

I re-clean installed Win 7 Ultimate using ThinkVantage System Update and it works seamlessly. It's working like a charm.

Can you please tell me how to clean install Win 7 using ThinkVantage System Update? I have T500 with Vista Business 32-bit installed and Win Professional Upgrade DVD. I'd like to clean install Win 7 Pro 64-bit on the T500 Vista Buisness 32-bit macine. What is the best approach? I am a newbie, so step by step instruction would be graetly appreciated.

Using the ThinkVantage System Update is after you've done a clean install. Just download and run it.

To clean install Windows 7, insert the disc and reboot. There should be a "Custom Install" option, follow instructions. After all this is done, install System Update and run it. Done!

Since you have the upgrade disc, and upgrading from 32bit to 64bit, this article would be beneficial:

    http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/clean_install_upgrade_media.asp

I personally used the registry hack when I clean installed Windows 7 Pro on my T500, also going from 32bit Vista Business to 64bit Pro with an upgrade.

Is this the correct link for "ThinkVantage System Update" in my application?

    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/TVSU-UPDATE.html

With this posting as a guide, I think I should be able to handle it now. What is the registry hack, please? I am just curious.

Yeah, that's the right link. Clean installing Windows 7 is a breeze, so you don't have to fret too much over it. I've done it myself a few times with no problems. Best part is, if you mess up, you can just start over!

Concerning the registry hack, you probably won't even have to do it. I just remembered that you only have to do this if you install Windows 7 (using upgrade media) on a blank drive.

Here, this link is a lot better at giving clean install instructions than the one before:

One last question! Do I need to save drivers (for 64-bit) or anything else somewhere before installing Win 7? Otherwise, can you think of any other preparation work, please? I told you I am a newbie; this will be my first time installing Windows, let alone swtiching from 32-bit system to 64-bit system. Any tip will be much appreciated!

Thank you so much in advance!

System Update would be the application that installs all the drivers for you :)

Also 32-64 or vice versa - it's no different, in the end just another version of Windows

You can, but it's completely unnecessary. Like czhang said, System Update will take care of everything. It'll find, download, and install what you need. However, I would run Windows Update before the Lenovo System Update.

As for preparation, I would backup everything or make an image of your drive before you start anything. And read over the guide first, then go ahead with the install. Good luck to you! But I'm sure you won't need it ;)

Why first update with Windows? Windows Update does sometimes contain a driver which is used by the laptop BUT I don't know if that ones better then the one on Lenovo website.

It's just something I do. I guess I'm just paranoid and would rather have windows up to date before I do anything. Plus, like you said, it does find drivers without needing System Update.

Thank you all, especially, giangdude and czhang, for great help!

I’ve made it. Win7 is up and running now. With Win7, it seems much faster if nothing else.

To take full advantage of the new Win7 Pro 64bit, I am going to add one of these RAM sticks:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148192

    Is this a good choice?

As recommended, I used “ThinkVantage System Update” to install all but one recommended and optional updates. Is “ThinkVantage Access Connections for Windows 7” any good? I didn’t like the Vista version of Access Connections at all. At times, I didn’t know whether Windows or Access Connections was controlling wireless connection, and things like that. It was rather confusing to me.

I just found that “Lenovo (D :)" with 2 directories (Showroom and swtools, both dated 11/30/2008) is still there. I couldn’t format or erase the partition when installing Win7. Anyway, what exactly are they? Is there a way to reclaim the hard drive space as my SSD size is rather small with only 64GB?

By the way, I’d like to upgrade my desktop (Dell XPS Studio 435MT Vista Home Premium 64bit) to Win7 Pro 64bit as well. Would I have to repeat the same things, clean-installing (after backing up everything), rather than upgrade?
