Anyone ordered and using the non touch qhd panel model 20A7002WUS? How's the viewing angle? Please commend. Thanks.

Also a random note: I was worried that getting a non-touch x1 I'd mistake it for a touch screen when switching back and forth between my android tablet and smudge it up for no reason, but so far I haven't had any issues. It probably helps using ubuntu rather than windows 8. Windows 8 seems like you really would want a touch screen just to navigate the home screens (I played around with windows on my x1 for about 3 minutes and decided it wasn't even worth trying to figure out if I could dual boot it, I would either use ubuntu or send it back (It's been many years since I've used anything other than linux)). -
Hey guys!
I just received a brand new X1 Carbon 20A7002CGE and although I'm very happy with the machine so far, I've already got the first problem:
The sound does not work!
When ever the speakers should play some sound, the right speaker only does short cracks/clicks in a constant rhythm and the left speaker simply does nothing. Sounds as if there was a clock ticking inside the right speaker, and there is no sound of the youtube video or the music that should be played that moment. It stays exactly the same when i plug in my external speakers in the combo audio jack. But it stops when i use the adaptive keyboard to disactivate the sound (red cross near the speaker symbol).
I already tried updating the driver of the speakers, disactivated the Dolby Software...
Can anybody please help me? -
That said, I hate the matte film on this screen. It gives a murky haze to the display. Lisa at MobileTechReview says it's hazy/dull. She's right.
I can't wait to peel this thing off! -

You know what Lenovo? YOU SUCK. -
Day two with my X1 and so far it's pretty awesome. I have adapted to the Backspace/Delete key pretty quickly. It's tricky at first, but I'm making a lot fewer mistakes now. But the touch/feel of the keyboard brilliant. No one makes a keyboard like Lenovo. Great feedback and plenty of travel.
The adaptive Function row isn't as bad as some are making it out to be. But I don't use it a lot. I use the Search (magnifying glass) a bit and the Volume keys, but that's about it. Unless you have to use F-keys a lot, don't sweat it. One thing I hate about Lenovo keyboards is how they normally put the Fn key in the lower-left corner. I prefer the Ctrl key to be in the corner position so I can quickly Ctrl-Z/X/C/V. So losing the Fn key for the adaptive row is a good trade off for me.
The display is the only thing I'm having a problem with. It just isn't very bright. I did remove the matte film, quite easily by the way. It's did help with the murkiness of the screen but it didn't make it any brighter. My other PC is the Surface Pro 2, which is listed at 400 nits so I'm used to a much brighter screen. I have the X1 on 100% which is about 80% on the Surface, my guess. So the penalty is reduced battery life since I have the brightness up so high. I'm never far from a power cord so this is ok. I'll tweak my power settings but I'm not expecting more than 5 hours the way I'm using it so far. -
Did anyone successfully install a corporate image (windows 7)? Our IT desk failed to apply the image (downloading succeedes) and I called lenovo tech support and they said it's not possible which doesn't make sense. Machine type is 20A7 with windows 8.1 pro.

Hello,
Can someone suggest a slim profile backpack for X1 Carbon Touch? I don't plan to put much in it other than the laptop itself, power cord and a few adapter cables. I've been looking at Cocoon Slim Backpack, but wanted to hear more opinions.
Thank you! -
So I finally got my X1CT Gen 2. I now have the touch and non-touch side by side. Base models.
First impression:
1.) The touch model does feel heavier. Nothing too crazy, but noticeable, however both of these feel crazy heavy since I am coming off the Sony Vaio Pro.
2.) It doesn't seem intuitive, but the touch screen appears brighter than the non-touch.
3.) Glass bezel around the touch is a nice touch.
4.) My touch model took 2 extra weeks, so there must have been a design change. The touchpad on the touch model is much more "rubbery." Not sure if this is a good thing or bad, but it's noticeably darker in color. Ironically, both are ever so slightly offer center (shoddy build?)
5.) Touch has a granular texture on the bottom edge. Not sure if this is running design change.
6.) Touch has "tighter" clamshell hinge.
Other than that, can't see too much difference. haven't tested battery, and probably wont. Anybody else have any feedback on these two models?
** I have noticed some issues already with non-touch. Sometimes windows will freeze up, or lock up and it appears that a touch would "free it" Hard to explain but wondering if there is a software problem of non-touch. Trackpad and screen have errors already. Build quality seems better on the touch (the one I had to wait for). Especially on trackpad. I'll keep it solely for this reason -
Two weeks is more likely indicative of supply chain issues than a design change.

After a lot of looking around I ordered the non-touch 2560x1440 i5-4200u X1.
I live in Japan and here (as well as on the Japanese lenovo site) they're advertising 14 hours of battery life; lenovo sites of other countries advertise 9 or even 8.4? hours... has anyone else heard about this discrepancy? I finally chose the X1 because of the purportedly insane endurance.
I'm going to scrap Windows and install Archlinux, so if anyone has any feedback on how it runs it would also be really appreciated -
double post..

Anybody have a list of programs to uninstall when you get the machine? Like Norton, Pokki, etc?
-
-
It must be possible, they inluded the Ethernet dongle for F12-boot and there are driverpacks available named SCCM for building driverpackages for deployment.
I havent configure the X1 for deployment yet but the X240 was no problem.

Anyone have issues connecting to an ipad hotspot? Should I download new wifi driver?

For any owners of the touch model who find the effect of of the protective screen film annoying, it can be removed fairly easily. I used a razor blade to carefully pull up enough of a corner to grab with my fingers, and it was easy to remove by hand from there. There isn't much in the way of visible residue, but the screen had some residual tackiness from the adhesive that came off easily with isopropanol (rubbing alcohol).
The result is a much clearer screen image. Whites in particular look brighter/less murky. After cleaning the screen, the touchscreen works just fine. The tradeoff is that the screen is now full gloss, like a Macbook. I think it's a fair tradeoff. -
Is it possible to buy the new X1 with 1080p and not the higher version? Also any word on the HD5000 availability for Australians?
-
I have had mine for a few weeks now and I just dont like the touchpad at all. It must have something to do with the high resolution and bad calibration or just bad quality from Synaptics and Lenovo. Its just unprecise all the time with blind spots and slow downs here and there, zig zag patterns.
What are your thoughts on the feel of the clickpad? (mouse pointer precision) -
Have you tried any other drivers (newer, non-Lenovo supplied, etc.)?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I have the newest synaptics drivers from Lenovos page.
The touchpad on the Surface Pro 2s type and touchcovers just have sooo much more precision, even if they are tiny but they are crazy precise and detect small movements, mac-feeling. The X1 does not recognise small movements. -

Fingerprints haven't been a noticeable issue, but I don't use the touch screen a ton. Immediately after removing the film, I thought I had ruined it for touch use because it was very tacky. But after cleaning off the adhesive residue with rubbing alcohol, the surface is just as slick as it was with the protector on.
One difference that has been noticeable is that the screen film was, for some reason, a magnet for cat hair. The bare glass hasn't had that problem. -
Not much fingerprints but yes the film is a dust magnet, im leaving my on though cause I have no problem with it.
-
How are you guys getting the non-touch 2560x1440 i5-4200u X1C? I don't see the non-touch screen version on either Lenovo Canada or Lenovo US' website.
I'm looking for non-touch 2560x1440 i5-4200u, 128GB SSD, and 8GB of RAM. How much will this configuration cost? -
I don't know why I decided to do it since I never had problems with the screen. However, I'm very glad that I removed it. Now I STRONGLY recommend removing the film if you're okay with the glossy screen.
I was okay with the brightness with the film on it but always thought it was a bit dimmer than expected, forcing me to up the brightness. After removing the film, I can now read texts more comfortably (I didn't know but I guess the screen door effect by the film makes reading texts a bit uncomfortable). Plus, the brightness improved noticeably for me and I can now down the brightness 2~3 steps down and still be comfortable, which will help me get longer battery life.
The best part is that it just looks so much cleaner, better, and colors more vivid. And yes, I can confirm that fingerprints are not a problem. The feeling of the touch is not degraded by any means either. I really think it should have shipped like this. I guess Lenovo was focused too much on making it 'matte'.
Removing the film only took about 10 minutes without any tools other than a cutter knife to lift off one edge so I can grab it. But be very careful not to go too fast since the pulling could stress the screen if you're not consciously trying to be careful. Always lightly press against the screen while carefully peeling off the film and you'll be fine. It did not leave ANY residue on the screen unlike the X1 Carbon Gen1. After you're done just lightly wipe with windex or something and it's good to go. -
-
Everyone removing the film, have you noticed any difference in the touch functionality? I'm terrified of ruining it.

So, I'm looking for the brightest possible screen and have no use for a touchscreen. Is the 300nit nontouch matte brighter than a "270nit" touch with the film removed?Does the nontouch also have a film? I realize this may require the input of someone who has them both side by side.

"14.0WQHD300nitIPSn-touchWWAN" under display. -
Brightness stops working! Is anyone else having this issue? I am using Windows 7 Pro and, after hibernation, brightness (adaptive keys) does not work at all (the other keys, i.e. volume, still work).

So I saw earlier in this thread a Europe-based reseller of this offering the X1 Carbon with Intel HD5000 graphics.
I have been waiting for this option to show up on a USA seller or Lenovo.com but all I can find is Intel HD Graphics 4400.
Was the Intel HD 5000 a mistake or falsely advertised, or should I keep waiting and expecting it to be available in US? -

Does someone know when this Ding will be endlich available in Germany?
Oh mann! ich hab's satt mit dem Warten... -
Have it since a couple of weeks, not from Lenovo directly but from a reseller:
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon mit Intel® Prozessoren
Went like a charme within 3 days. -
-
Is this combination possible CPU i7-4600U + GPU HD Graphics 5000 ?
I can remember that IBM gave a statement about that, but i cannot find the right page now... -
But I've been using my glossy Transformer and Dell XPS12 for a while now so I'm used to gloss these days - and the X1 high-res screen looks brilliant with the film removed.
My tip would be to take it slowly and support the glass near where you are pulling as the lcd is only clipped into the lid and it will come out. If yours starts to (like mine did) just lay the screen flat on a flat surface and pop the clips back in around the edges.
Thankyou so much to all who went before me and had the balls to pull the film off their expensive new laptops! -
Don't you worry about the screen warranty if you remove the matte filter?

Hey guys so yesterday I finally received my X1 Carbon 2014, 256gb SSD, I7, 8GB ram , with non-touch WQHD display ( which is about 60 nits brighter than the touch version). Since I am not a loyal thinkpad user & this was my first thinkpad coming from the samsung series 9 & Macbook Pro retina 13'' I had a much different experience with this laptop. I actually don't mind the adaptive keyboard because I basically only used the alt-f4 feature from that whole row of keys, I modified the adaptive strip so it doesn't change with each interface by itself and also disabled the web-browsing and web-conference modes so I am generally on the Home mode which is pretty useful & if I ever need fn keys, I get there and back with just one tap on the mode change button. I don't know if the brightness made a significant difference but I absolutely love this antiglare screen because coming from the retina macbook where I would literally see my reflection in the screen all day and get annoyed like crazy, this thing kills all glare & the display still looks pretty good to me ( I feel like glare from glossy screens put way more strain on the eyes than this anti-glare screen). I also finally found a way to make chrome look perfect at max resolution which made my experience ever more pleasant. I really can't complain about the trackpoint because I am a huge touchpad lover and lenovo's touchpad is way more accurate to me and has awesome gestures ( i love 3 finger swipes to go back and forth pages & four finger swipe up to open all current tabs). The touchpad is so good that I feel like a touchscreen or a trackpoint are basically useless to me. The only downfall of this laptop to me is that I paid over $2000 for it and it only hold's the battery for about 4 hours with just light browsing & youtube while my Retina Macbook pro & 1 year old Samsung series 9 could basically keep going for 7-9 hours ( the only reason I care about the battery is that if it only holds 4 hours now, it is going to drop to less than an hour in 2 years and that is unacceptable to me). So in conclusion I basically loved the durability, portability, keyboard, touchpad and screen of the laptop but it really should have a much more superior battery life than this so I am most likely going to return it within the 21 day return policy.

I had an i5-4200 with 8 gig RAM, 256 GB SSD and the WQHD for one week, but returned it today.
This is really an awesome machine,I really loved it, but I couldn't adapt to the adaptive row. ;-)
Touchpad was perfect for me,I really hope that the T440s that I ordered today has the same touchpad.
Screen was flawless, too.
I had Win8.1 and ubuntu 13.10 running, but the adaptive row was but recognized. I didn't want to fiddle around a few days to get it eventually working. Maybe there's a solution that I didn't find, but the physical layout of the adaptive row was an additional no-go. It's a fingerprint magnet , more than the rest of the keyboard.
Keyboard itself is a dream typing but for that amount of money I try to get nearly perfection, which the adaptive row killed for me.
For anybody that can live with it go out and get this laptop. It's awesome. ;-)

bump, anyone know where I can get my hands on an X1 Carbon with HD5000? -
It's not available on the Lenovo site here either though, but bought it through a Lenovo reseller. -
I have some more complaints.. :/
The sound... really poor quality on the output from the 3,5 jack. Sure its kind of stoneage to use cords these days but I still use one at home. Im forced to get a Bluetooth reciever now. No biggie.
