I think you guys will get a good chuckle out of this. The good news is my order has been shipped. Details:

    1. Ordered: 8/19
    2. Config: i5-3427U, 128GB SSD, 8GB RAM
    3. Shipped-To: San Jose, CA
    4. Estimated ship: 8/28 > 9/18
    5. Actual Ship Date: 9/12
    6. Estimated Arrival: 9/8 > 9/25 > 9/17
    7. Actual Arrival Date: n/a

Now some background: I placed an order (the one above) on 8/19 through the B&N site but shortly thereafter realized I could get a better deal through the normal Lenovo site with the newsletter discount. So the day after on 8/20 with the assistance of a very accommodating and helpful phone CSR we were able to cancel that order and place a new one through the Lenovo site. Now the bad news... The order they shipped out is the one that was allegedly cancelled! Conveniently, the one that is $70 more than the newer order.

I would attempt to call them to straighten this out but I'm so afraid of creating even more complications. I think I'll just wait until I receive the unit and then try to straighten things out with a $70 credit to my card.

What do you guys think the odds are of them sending me BOTH orders?! lol What a clustercuss!

Does anyone know why older orders ship after newer ones?

Not sure if you saw my previous post, but I'm in the exact same boat. I plan on getting this unit in my hands before I call them to tell them they've shipped the one I cancelled. I did expect my other order to ship by now, but no such luck. Even the order status page is jacked. What a "clustercuss" indeed.

Because Lenovo does ALL ordering management by HAND, not a computer.

They somehow believe human work is much cheaper and faster and more accurate than a COMPUTER :)

    Just kidding.

I am one of the folks who ordered on 8/14 (i5, 256, 8). I've just returned from a day-hike to find my order status updated to "Non-shippable." I received the email many of you did this morning telling of delayed shipments due to parts, and how they'd ship out soon, since the parts have been acquired/manu'd. Anyone else get that update?

A few hours after I received the same email my order also changed to "Non-Shippable". The computer is missing from the order, however, the price remains. I contacted my rep who stated all is fine. They are going through the orders by hand and "fixing" them. I don't quite understand because I ordered on 8/16 and they cancelled the order on 8/28 to create a new order and remove the dongle. I don't know what they are fixing. What's next?

I wrote in earlier - Basically I am boiling -- I have had ship out dates of August 27th, Sept16, Sept 19th, Sept 20, Sept 25 and now somewhere in October (I want to check today but the system is down - it has been all day).

I wrote to my sales rep today after she hadn't replied to my last THREE emails asking for clarity on this issue. But I cced her boss so I got a prompt response - here's what she said:

    Dear Mr. XXXXXX

I apologize for my delayed response and for the fact that the system has not shipped out yet. The X1 Carbons have been delayed and will be shipping by the week of September 24th. Unfortunately, there are a lot of customers in this same situation, and I am just as frustrated as you are that the systems have not shipped out yet. Again, I sincerely apologize for this delay and appreciate your patience.

    Thanks so much.

    XXXXX XXXXX

Obviously that made me even more pissed...

Is there an X1C owners thread (or linux thread)? Care to share a link?

Not to digress from the thread, but yes, that sadly is Unity. Haha. Though I won't be keeping the system, I know Unity well, and would have adjusted the look and feel to that of the version I currently use, Lucid. Precise does many things well, but just as many more wrong.

You might get better answer than when asking on CSR. Could you ask her if it is the same type of date as the previous 16th? And whether they ship laptops according to order date?

You're able to see your order status page? When I use the generic one where you enter your order number and email, I get an error that says
"Please check back later to view your order. System updates are made four times a day."

I have never been able to get the order status from "My Account" to show anything, either.

Order status works for one of my orders, the other one has stopped working since yesterday.

The only chance for something from Lenovo that isn't broken is the laptop itself. I'm holding my breath.

anxious, nervous, impatient...these are my feelings now.

my order had suddenly shown to be "In Production" 1-2 days ago, with an estimated ship date of 9/12th.

then, it just got stuck there for the entire time. my understanding is that the x1c should not sit in production for that long, as it is merely assembly, right? how long should i expect it to be "in production"?

furthermore, 9/12th obviously came and went by today! nowhere in the world would it be 9/12th today, whether it be in China, NYC, or Timbuktu.

does it mean i'm getting the same screwy treatment that most folks are getting now? i.e. these dates mean nothing?

    ugh!

Original order placed 8/16. Sales rep canceled and reordered on 8/28.
I went from "In Production" on 8/28 to "Non-Shippable" on 9/12 to "Order Received" on 9/13. No cost listed and my order for an extended 3 year warranty has been removed.

Lenovo's treatment of customers, many long-time Lenovo loyalists like myself, has really been inexcusable. Maybe Lenovo feels that if the outrage is confined to a thread on this website that only X1C buyers are likely to look at, the problem is successfully contained. I don't want to be "contained"; I wanted to be treated with more respect for my $2,000 purchase than I am getting.

So, I wrote a "tip" to Engadget.com suggesting that the screw up of this product launch was a story that they ought to cover and directing Engadget to check out the experiences of the users on this thread. Something should get Lenovo's attention.

NPRW4ever: smart. it's sort of like some local tv station here in nyc has a "shame on you" segment, where consumers who got royally screwed would go to them and these giant corporations all buckle under the media flood lights.

one additional question: why not alert Gizmodo as well?

This situation is really annoying. They can change ship date everytime, there is no clear message from Lenovo when it can be shipped, that is the problem. Although you migh have ordered on 14th (like I did) they might not respect it at all and ship the orders however they want. You might be at the end of the line and wait for an another month or longer. I have never experienced anything like that, after I get X1C I will never recommend Lenovo to anyone, it is by far the worst experience I have ever had with any company.

They should just drop customer service, what is the point of it anyway? Why can you select modify your order, when you can not change anything in your order.

I orderd on 14th, I was told that I'm in 'priority' queue and people who order after me are receiving their units. I can not predict when I can get it, and this is the problem.

Apple's customer service is so much better. If MacBook Pro had TrackPoint and was black :(

The new 13" Retina MBP is supposed to be released later this month or in Oct. Just sayin'. :) I'll probably wait for one of those if I'm not happy with my X1C. I'm so tired of shopping around for a PC laptop that fits my expectations of quality.

I had to register just to spout all of my feelings of disappointment with Lenovo on this.

    Ordered the i7 / 128GB version on 08/17.

My first call to them was on 09/04. Some trackpoint caps already shipped but not my laptop (according to the Order Status page). I wanted to change the shipping address of my laptop from my home address to my work (so someone could sign for it). The CSR told me that the X1 Carbon was already shipped it just hadn't received its tracking number yet and updated on the website, and that there was no way they could guarantee the change of address. So I just gave up and figured it was a waste of time.

Of course, my ship date then gets pushed back to mid Sept which would then seem I was blatantly lied to.

I hop on to the online Lenovo chat where a CSR said the delay had to do with a parts constraint and it will ship on the 09/16. After expressing how this was inconvenient for me, he offered the equivalent of 5% off once the unit shipped, and that I had to E-mail him and provide the tracking number so it could then be discounted. I said "Okay, well thank you for your time", and before I could screenshot the session with the info, he dropped off the chat, which immediately changes the screen to a customer satisfaction survey and you cannot get the chat log. So I have no idea who to E-mail, and I can't fully blame them on this as I should have waited until after I took down the info to reply.

Much like some of you are noticing now, I cannot check my status anymore either.

Overall, I've had a very sour experience. The only reason I haven't actually cancelled was because of how satisfied I was with my old T42, and a TP Edge 13". If they didn't make their laptops so dang well, their customer service would have definitely turned me away from doing business with them.

I was now just told by Sales that the delay is attributed to a shortage of parts from Intel. Okay, so what is it really? VGA Dongle? Ethernet Dongle? Case? Backlit keyboard? Bluetooth parts? And now Intel parts!? Wow!

I finally got to talk to someone that actually seemed to care about customers instead of just getting me off the phone. Two supervisors in post sales support weren't able to do anything and didn't have all the info. Someone in sales actually had a lot more info on my specific order. Many of you have seen orders cancelled and re-entered. This is correct and was their fix for getting orders shipped without the ethernet dongle. What happened to mine is that when they went to re-enter my order, since the charge showed up as a brand new charge to my credit card bank, it was declined (due to the stolen credit card). At that time, the credit department would have normally contacted me, but because it was a manual re-entry, it was outside of their normal processes and no contact was made. He was frustrated that credit didn't follow the regular procedure, but understands how it happened. They were able to reinstate my order, but due to some process issues I didn't ask about, it was quicker to have a brand new order entered. Due to all the hassle and them dropping the ball on my CC issues, he's making sure my order is expedited as much as possible. The bad news is they are having stock issues on the 256GB SSD now. So it looks like my order would have shipped on Monday, the day it was cancelled, but since the CC issue happened, I'm now waiting again due to the SSD. At least I know a lot more info now. This was the first rep I've talked to, including supervisors, that cared. His manager is getting a nice email from me today about how awesome he was.

So I ordered on the 16th and expect at least a couple more weeks of a wait. But at this point, if they can't build the laptop because they don't have the SSD, there's nothing I can do but wait. Unlike the dongle, I can't ask them to ship it without it.

like you, i'm in nyc! so...congrats!

may i ask how it is? the touch, the feel, the trackpad, the screen (any screen door effect?)...

mine is stuck in the status "In Production". damn it.

it also still continues to say Estimated Ship Date of 9/12th, which is, of course, YESTERDAY.

    ugh. frustrating.

since your est ship date moved from 9/12th to 9/26th, i need to prepare myself for disappointment as well and wait for mine to also change from 9/12th to 9/26th, right? ugh.

Its a very nice machine. My initial thoughts are as follows.

    1. lite and thin....clearly. Its what I expected, so it did not surprise on that note. I was holding it up to a very high standard, so there was no place for it to go other than down. But it did not disappoint, thats for sure.

    2. Very nice key board....I think that has been said enough. One observation I would like to make is the size of the letters on the keyboard, big but not too big, perfect size for the back lighting. Very nice!

    3. Screen quality looks great.

    4. The performance seem good. I got the base model, so its only up form there. But I am happy so far, have not really pushed it yet. Im about to run Microsoft Navision on VM, so I htink that will be a good test.

    5. The feel, feels solid. No loose parts, typical think-pad. Really, thats why we bought this machine, it wont disappoint on the feel.

Lastly, overall size and feel. Excellent! tight package, looks good, feels good. The material feels strong and again overall I think its the perfect size.

Guys, did I mention the keyboard.....wow, wasnt going to spend much time on that (because many others have) but hell I just wrote this whole note and it feels really good. I think I can type much quick on this machine vs my work dell.

I think its worth the wait.

    Ill post some pictures later.

Oh yeah, trackpad. Seems good. I think windows still has come catch up to do on their side. for the most part I dot use it, I use the red thing! But the track pad feels classy! The screen is fine, maybe a little "screen door" but I think its still solid.

I've got an s10-3 sitting next to me as well. The X1 is going to replace it. I also have a t430 on the way and my wife has a t410s. Lenovo fan here, so this whole fiasco has been a huge dissapointment with my favorite taptop brand.

For anyone that cares, my "new" i5/8GB/256GB order from today shows an estimated ship date of 9/30, but I've been told they are going to try to get me earlier in the line as my first order was 8/16. Still, they need the 256GB drives and without them, they can't build the machine. We shall see if that's true.

I ordered on August 17, 2012. After much delay my order for the Thinkpad x1carbon do not even show up in order status any more. Only the thinkpad sleeve shows up for the price of $1575.00. Call yesterday and the gave me the spill of its coming, but waiting on a part. Even got the email about a delay yesterday that everyone else got. Now check out this email I just got from lenovo.

    like you, i ordered a "3443CTO" as well ;)

mine has been sitting at a status of "In Production" for days and with an "Estimated Ship Date" of 9/12th for days as well.

you'd think that as we're sitting here on 9/13th, where nowhere else on earth would be still 9/12th, Lenovo would have updated that AUTOMATICALLY, as they are, i presume, a MODERN, computer company?!?

    oh, but no! they didn't.

my order continues to show an estimated ship date of 9/12th, and still a status of "In Production".

they don't have a clue and they have so many problems that i don't think they can fix this over the course of a year or two.

    this would take a reboot!

Have you noticed any of the "looseness" that others are reporting when clicking on the trackpad?

Yeah mine was "in production" for a week. Then on Tuesday the notebook disappeared from the order status page. I even had a temp hold on credit card. It has vanished.
